Agenda fact checking

Very amusing to watch the students do fact checking on Agenda. They found:
- Lockwood Smith was only half right in claiming 80,000 Kiwis had left last year, as did not take account of returning Kiwis
- David Parker was only half right in claiming they have doubled the compensation to forestry owners as in fact has only increased by 50% on original offer
- Most amusingly of all they found Nick Smith’s comment that the first policy released by Labour in this campaign was a National policy was 100% correct. They checked both the Beehive website and the Labour Party website and could not find a single 2008 election policy listed.

On the third item I think the issue is that Labour is using a different website for its campaign http://www.labour08.co.nz/. If you look on that (http://www.labour08.co.nz/policies/) you will see that Labour has released a lot of policies. But this is going to be a problem for Labour this election – using a different website than their ‘home’ website. I notice their billboards state the http://www.labour08.co.nz website.
Interestingly, they also have http://www.labourparty.org.nz/ and http://www.labour.co.nz. All three are different websites.
Very odd.
[DPF: Actually when I look on that website I find no policies also. Just a UNIX pdf]

I’m sure this is just coincidence but the Agenda website reports on the Fact FIner only covers the story about Lockwood Smith and not the other two which show Labour in a bad light: http://homepaddock.wordpress.com/2008/09/14/fact-finder-doesnt-show-all-the-facts/
