Paul Buchanan reinstated

September 20th, 2008 at 9:54 am by David Farrar

This is good news. Auckland University has reinstated after sacking him over a year ago.

Buchanan won a case for unfair dismissal and $66,000 of damages but not an order for reinstatement. I believe he was appealing the decision not to reinstate and it looks like he has reached an agreement with to avoid the court case. That is a win for both sides.

I hope he never lost any earnings over this. Auckland Uni got off light IMO.

I have to say that Dr. Buchanan is a good chap and very friendly. The last time I saw him was outside Radio Live building in Ponsonby about 6 or 7 months ago after an interview with John Tamihere where he told me that his wife has got a job in Singapore and that he was going with her. You can see him at the varsity gym chatting with students about international affairs. Students just walk up to him and ask general questions , just to hear his opinions. This is a win-win situation for both University and its students and also for Dr. Buchanan himself.

Yes great news. Let’s hope he didn’t have to reinvent himself as a kinder gentler Paul B to get back in.

I hope not. I liked the unreconstructed version who called things as he saw them.

reid. You can bet he has reinvented himself. After all, he did apologise after telling the truth in the email that got him sacked in the first place. He’s not going to be so “incorrect” again, is he? Another neutered academic. Spare me.
