Hooton vs Peters

October 12th, 2008 at 9:30 am by David Farrar

The Herald on Sunday reports:

A television stoush between New Zealand First leader Winston Peters and a National Party insider got so heated filming was stopped and the show’s lawyer called in.

Matthew blogs he does have some regrets:

He kept calling me a liar.  I kept calling him a liar.  Willie stood up and said “cut” (or words to that effect).  In the discussion about how to proceed after we were no longer recording, I told Winston he was a “fucking cunt” – in retrospect, I accept that I left out the important adjectives “lying” and “corrupt” between the other two appropriate but more Anglo-Saxon words.

Matthew is correct that Winston is a liar. We have a report from the Parliamentary Privileges Committee which says he is. The corruption tag is debatable – certainly knowingly filing false election expenses and donations return (as NZ First appears to have done in 2005 and 2007) is a corrupt practice. But the party secretary, not the party leader, is held liable under the law.  But if the party secretary says they were never made aware of secret monies controlled by the party leader – well you see how it is certainly debatable.

And Matthew feels a bit guilty:

Finally, I am very proud that I have looked Peters in the eye and called him a liar, a crook and a fucking cunt.  He has been a most evil influence on New Zealand politics since he first began telling lies, scaremongering and attacking minorities in the 1980s.  And I also feel a little guilty that I have been able to look him in the eye and tell him the truth when so many other New Zealanders don’t get the same opportunity.

I can’t see much chance of a reconciliation!

From my sources there is no way he can live like he does on his Ministerial Package.

So where does the extra cash come form?

Scampi, Fish, Racing, Boxing, and the like.

He has no shame, and more importantly H1 protects him. Why?

This man is a cancerous and corrosive blight on NZ Politics. the worst of the Worst. And a Lounge Lizrard!

It still amazes me that the focus on this election is still with the Political parties and the party vote. I do not believe that is where the Government with be decided from. Most even on this site are still focused on the percentage of party vote.
My prediction: It will not be the party vote that will decide who will govern. (Obviously it will have a big part to play)
Who will govern will very likely be decided as the result of the electorate votes and this will be a first for New Zealand I believe.
Which electorates are key (no pun intended) to this result.
    1. The Maori Electorates.
    2. Epsom.
    3. East Coast Bays.
    4. Mangere.
There may be others but theses electorates have a greater potential to shape the next Government than any increase or decrease of Party vote and the battle to win them is intense. However most are unaware that it is even raging.
Time will tell. I can’t wait!!

Are you nuts?? This is a win for Peters. Calling someone a “fucking cunt” is just pointless abuse that Winston’s fans will use for all their worth to beat up sympathy for their falsely maligned hero.

Winston’s appeal rests on the fact that above all he is a fighter, much more so than Key or even Klark, and he demonstrates this in his frequent conflicts with the mainstream media. The way to reduce this appeal is to make him look like a wittering little fool. This attack will in many places only generate sympathy and or add to his hero status.

BTW BlairM, Hooten is IMHO a politically correct pseudo liberal wanker. He’s helpful in some ways, but he participated in the undermining of Don Brash and is full of trendy progressive anti Western bullshit. He’ll never speak for me. Today or any time.

Waiting for an opportunity for this one….

Winnie Peters wakes up one morning, showers and puts on his best pinstriped suit, ready for another hard day’s work in Parliament. Catching sight of himself in the mirror, he thinks “By God, Winnie, you’re looking good today. Feeling good too,”
He goes down to the kitchen where his ladyfriend hands him a bowl of cornflakes. “You’re looking fit this morning, Winnie.” “Too right” he says. “I feel good as well.” “But you don’t smell so good,” comments his beloved. He takes a sniff. “You’re right there,” he says worriedly, “I do smell a bit rough.” He finishes his breakfast, jumps into his car and drives off to go to party HQ.

He meets Dail Jones at the gates. “Alright Winnie, you’re looking good today,” says Dail. “Of course I am,” says Winnie. “But you wiff a bit,” replies Dail. “Funny that, I don’t know what it is but my chick said the same thing.” “Good morning to you,” he grins at Ron Mark. “Its a fine day, Winnie” says Ron. “And you’re looking really good.” “Hey thanks, I look good and I feel good as well” replies Winnie. “Oh Winnie!” winces Ron. “You smell awful. Skip the meeting and go to the quacks.”

Worried, Winnie visits his doctor. “Doctor, I’ve got a problem. I look good, I feel great but I smell awful.” The doctor gets out his medical dictionary. “Lets see…looks good…feels great…smells awful. Hmm, yes. Its quite simple, Mr. Peters,” says the doctor “You’re a cunt.”

If we had more like him we wouldn’t have had 9 years of creeping socialism. Good to see Kerre Woodham today came out against nanny state. Is it too much to hope for more people to wake up before its too late?

Ps – John, do you have balls? – if so, show them and use them – you are being pushed around by Clark and the leftist MSM. Ask Garner if he has ever said anything under the weather that would look bad on the front page of the paper. Ask Mold the same. Ask them both who they voted for last time and why are they biased. It worked for Helen a few months ago when she berated the Herald and some nice man Peter Davis, of no disclosed relation to Clark, also wrote to the Herald at the same time. Grow some balls or a lot of the men left here won’t be here after Nov 8.

“Good on Matthew for proving that he is one of the very few NZ males (sic) who still has balls and a functioning brain. ”

IMHO he’s got a long way to go to prove that he’s got either. He avoids real criticism on his blog by hiding behind the clown like censorship of the clod hopping “blog producer” Spondre. Like many liberals, Matty can dish it out to no hopers like Winston while in the protected environment of a television studio, but runs for cover from anything that really challenges his position. I repeat, calling Winston the names he did is no argument. There’s plenty you could say about Winston Peters, but all Hooten really hates him for is his anti immigration stance, a position the mainstream media driven pseudo liberal Matty mistakes for racism.

Hooten like many of his kinds sees nothing wrong with every other culture using Western Jeudo Christian culture as a doormat, and likes to join in the socialist deconstruction of our society with the kind of enthusiasm you might expect from Barack Obama but not anyone self styling themselves as a “right winger”.

As for Schwarzenegger, another pseudo liberal phoney who thru his lack of guts and leadership has seen California collapse into a typical socialist disaster a la the Soviet Union/ East Berlin.

Kerre Woodham?? Coming out against Nanny State? Don’t make me laff. This socialist clown took her holidays in Cuba and came back with glowing reports. Ignored the protesters for democracy locked in Castro’s dungeons. Been a partisan advocate all her life for the politics that have brought us to the low point we are at today.

You’re on the right track idea wise Stockbroker, but you’ll come to grief putting any faith in the likes of Hooten Woodham and Schwarzenegger. They’re the kind of politically confused idiots that are the problem not the solution.

    1. Is any place really better than anywhere else (within reason) – all have problems, (you are in WA?) and

    2. at the end of the day its up to you to mark your mark and your values in your life, you can’t blame the government etc etc and become a soft c**k yourself, so leaving for “Never nebver land” may not be the solution.

    “Look forward to your reply.”

Wow, not many people look forward to what I write. I must have done something wrong.

Its not a geographical place you are searching for. Its a time. The problems we face in the western world are all down to the infatuation with socialism or progressive politics that has prevailed now for more than a few decades.

You’re right. There’s practically no way to escape it because its a global plague. NZers though have a unique chance to make a difference. Being a small isolated island, it is possible to bring about change here much easier than say in Australia, Europe or the US.

That’s not saying its easy. NZ is firmly in the grip of the left, who have succeeded in weaving their ideology into NZ culture. We have gone from a nation of independent people able to fix anything with a piece of number eight wire to a country of dole bludgers and dependency freaks unable to fix a leaking tap without a legion of therapists, advisors, consultants, cultural guidelines, equal opportunity constraints, environmental regulations, sexual harassment rules, safety measures and, when we fail miserably in fixing the leak, grief counseling.

All of these things have arisen because of the idea that the primary purpose of government is to provide welfare for the citizens. We have to get back to the real purpose of government. Providing a legal framework for people to go about their lawful business, earn their own income and keep it, and own property and keep it. This objective has to be simplified, and I do this by saying we must pursue the goal of small government. Thats what we need to aim for- SMALL GOVERNMENT.

The place you are seeking will come to you here in NZ. We just need to cut back the number of politicians, the tax take, and institute a constitution that never allows the current unacceptable state of affairs to ever arise again. We don’t need Libertarianism, or Objectivism, or Liberalism, or any of that confusing crapola. We just need small almost unnoticeable government. You don’t have to go anywhere. We can do it in NZ if we all just pull together on this one issue. Get angry and tell the politicians this is what you want.

Note that in the discussions Mr. Farrar is so kindly providing in his videos, nobody is talking about making government smaller? That’s because the politicians are not getting the message. There’s two obstacles to them getting that message. One is our own apathy. The other is the mainstream media, who are largely progressives and determined to promote the ideas that have almost killed this country. Apathy we can fix by getting angry. The media we can fix by destroying their economic base. I’ve already said on a number of occasions how this should be done.

Hope this helps, and hope too that you’re not sorry you ever asked.

Clintheine: Yes I agree with you, Rodney should romp in with Epsom. Most however, I believe have still missed my point. Rodney will win Epsom NOT on the party vote but via the ELECTORATE vote. The Maori party will gain up to seven seats NOT by way of the party vote, but via the electorate vote. Likewise if East Coast Bays and Mangere change hands they will do so via the electorate vote and not via the party vote.
If Rodney did not win Epsom a strong partner for National has possibly gone. Likewise if The Family Party picks up either East Coast Bays or Mangere another partner for National has emerged.
Just look at all the possibilities and you will see that the ELECTORATE votes in certain key electorates can have a vital part to play in the formation of the next Government.
Yet from my observation the main stream media is ignoring this power that the ELECTORATE vote holds..
My concern has always been if we only focus on the percentage of party vote, we become blinded to other genuine options that are available.
Again I say that the electorate votes may have a far greater input to the formation of our next Government this year than in any previous election.

FFS, Roger Douglas has been successfully painted as some leporious cancer whereas if he hadn’t appeared we would be long gone by now. Put him in the US and he would be mainstream or even leftist! Also, as a matter of interest, if he is so bad then how much of what he did has been repealed by Clark/Cullen? Very very little because they know he is right but it doesn’t fit their brainwashing program or agenda to say so.

My hope is that Key does what it takes to gain power and then cements in a 3 or 4 term government that can unwind and re-eductate a lot of this shit thats gone down. Hell, if he only caps govenment size (I know he say he would reduce it now except the harpy would be all over him), then after 10 years of 4% inflation govenment size would be down by 32%, and thats ignoring any cuts he may end up doing over time of bloat and inefficiency.

Note that in the discussions Mr. Farrar is so kindly providing in his videos, nobody is talking about making government smaller? That’s because the politicians are not getting the message. There’s two obstacles to them getting that message. One is our own apathy. The other is the mainstream media, who are largely progressives…

While I agree with the basic hypothesis, I think you’re giving far too much credit to the politicians and would-be politicians. Are you seriously suggesting that if only the bulk of NZers clearly expressed a desire for our elected representatives to get their prying busy-body selves out of our business – and that if only the media played a different tune – they’d have an epiphany and do so?!

    Can I suggest an alternative?

Over the years politics has become dominated by people who, regardless of their outward philosophies and party labels – believe they know best and have some divine right to impose their opinions (which they are always at pains to portray as fact, when usually there is little evidence-based support for them) upon us.

They in turn surround themselves with people similarly inclined. Thus the difference between the parties becomes solely the nature of the rules they wish to impose. Their methodology, on the other hand, becomes more and more congruent:

    1. Conduct some sort of sham “consultation” and/or appoint some commission or other so everyone loses interest.
    2. Create circuses and hand out bread to placate the frustrated masses.
    3. Make a few changes to the original idea (changes which were always anticipated and which make no fundamental difference to the effect of the rules) and claim to have “listened to feedback”.
    4. Impose the rule and set about convincing the more gullible sections of the populace that “rules are rules” and “the law is the law, you must abide by it even if you don’t like it”. Throw in a bit of “attacks on the integrity of the police / IRD / CYFS (insert other enforcement agency here) will lead to anarchy”.
    5. Stack the enforcement agencies with people who also believe they have a divine right to rule and/or simply enjoy being bullies. Use them to suppress criticism by those on whom tactic 4 has failed. Overlook any “errors” made by the enforcers and, if they’re made so public that reaction is unavoidable, refer to 1.

Once established such a system becomes self-perpetuating. It attracts other people who would never stop to question their own omniscience if elected.

I’m not saying they don’t have genuinely-held beliefs. But if you suggested to them that their opinions were worth no more than those of the lowest (by whatever measure you choose) member of their electorate they’d be appalled.

It’s not, I put it to you, our apathy or the media that’s holding these people back from implementing smaller government. It’s the fact that big government is the most effective tool by which they can impose their will upon the rest of us.

A cynical outlook, I know, and one subject to various qualifiers… but at the heart of it I believe many – most – people stand for election at least partly because they think they know best, not to represent the people who elected them. The result is not democracy, it’s a multi-headed dictatorship, the only variance being its level of benignity.

Well enough Sunday philosophising, I’m going to sit on my balcony.

Tragically, the observation in the first sentence provides the answer to the second. What was that song .. “when will they ever learn ” ? Oversights of this kind also explain the perseverance with M Williamson (National Party Spokesman for Pique and Self-Interested Subversion of the party interest).

Phil ure, Lee-anne, I agree. My critisism of Hooten was very mild. (Childish, badly behaved.) I did not swear, as Mattew proudly did and repeated. I didn’t accuse him of lying. Interesting that in view of the alleged loss of Free Speech EFA, it is weird that some of us have been Censored out. Shame Bryan!

Ianmac – perhaps you should have a flick through the comments on Matthews threads and Chris’s threads. I think you will find we are a lot more tolerant than certain other blogs e.g. “The Standard”.

We don’t however accept the level of vileness offered by “D4J”, “redbaiter”, “Dylan Robinson aka robinsod”, “philu”, “IrishBill” on other blogs.

Yes, I’ve got to say that I agree with Lee Anne. At the very top of this thread a poster (Dire Straits) says that Matthew Hooton is “f—ing awesome” for dishing it out to Winston Peters, yet other posts critical of Matthew Hooton (that used less colourful language also) have been removed. Lets have some consistency here please.
My two sons are aged 13 and 10, and are just starting to get interested in politics and the upcoming elections – but I am glad they didn’t watch Eye to Eye today and the childish antics displayed on there. I want them to watch some of the shows covering Election ‘08 but not ones like that!
And Matthew boasting that he called WP a “f-ing c-nt” just makes me sick – I too hope that he doesn’t have children and speak in that manner around them – very BAD role modelling!!!

    # Fergie Says:
    October 12th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

But Bryan I am NOT a troll – I am a genuine interested participant like Lee Anne and Bridgid – I raised genuine concerns about the language allowed on this blog when posted about another person – yet my posts were regarded as vile ????
I do have genuine concerns about the type of journalism that Matthew subscribes to and my comments are mild compared that those has expressed on this blog., and Matthew’s own conduct and language. His obsession with Winston knows no bounds of decency.
If you only want people that agree and want to use the sort of language you subscribe to then you should close the blog to people who agree with you – might save you a lot of time censoring.

It appears only posts that suggest Matthew have a long hard think about himself have been censored – I rarely post to any blog – I certainly do not swear, but I challenge you to tell me what was more offensive about my posts than the others on this blog
You might have had 900 views, but of the 44 posts here 3 of mine have been censored and regarded as vile – that Bryan is 7 % censorship ( not to mention those of Philu’s) and any others you removed. Philu: I haven’t worked for National since 1998, and that was when I worked for the New Zealand Trade Minister, not for the party itself. I think Bryan is doing a great job. He stops nutters like you and redbaiter from ruining our comments section. DPF should do the same.

Your response was ad-hominen-loaded (“hey..!..fuck you too..!..hooten..!”) – but you did make this claim:

    So why do you care?

Back to the topic of this thread. I agree with Big Bruv above who said it was a draw:

I have just watched eye to eye and IMHO neither the left or the right can claim victory (despite the juvenile attempts at trolling from the Phool) the fairest way to describe the result would be to say it was a draw.

Speaking of blogs, which Philu raised, I see Hooten’s blog post says:

We then started recording on the set. Winston claimed to have been completely exonerated by the Serious Fraud Office. I said that wasn’t true – that the SFO had found that laws were probably broken and had referred his file to the Police, the Electoral Commission and the Auditor-General. He said I was lying. I said he was lying and repeated the allegation (which of course is not really an allegation – just a statement of fact).

So the critical issue is actually a narrow one.

Now we turn to this blog post on WinnieBlog (leaving aside the question whether it’s actually his authorship):

Fair-minded New Zealanders will be delighted at the confirmation that no fraud was ever committed, as we have always maintained.

The SFO has raised some other matters in relation to the return of donations to the Electoral Commission and the Police investigation into this. We have provided all the relevant information and fully cooperated with both these agencies and hope this matter will be resolved quickly.

Fair-minded New Zealanders will be intrigued that Winston Peters publicly denies a statement that appears on his own blog.

    Idiotboy:
Redbaiter is many things, some of which are rather non-complementary; however he is definitely not a facist. Redbaiter is always campaigning to reduce the state, while facists generally seek to expand it. For example Hitler’s policies included workers joining a national union, repeatedly attacking so-called “big capitalism”, and generally increasing state control and regulation over peoples lives. It is rather unfortunate that due to ignorance, or the intent to deliberately mislead, people have tended to draw a line between facism and and anything right wing. The analogy does not hold, especially with regard to libertarian policies, which are for all intents and purposes polar opposites of facism.

    Reposting the highlights of this:

    http://clintheine.blogspot.com/2008/10/rodney-hides-speech-to-act-campaign.html

“Our government is too fat. It’s squeezing us all. It desperately needs a trim.

Cullen has increased expenditure over the last ten years by 230 dollars a week for every household over the rate of inflation. That’s a whopping increase. And ask yourself? Have you seen a 230 dollar-a-week improvement in government under labour? I don’t think so.

And it’s set to get even bigger. And John Key agrees with that.

ACT will cap the growth of government, that will force Wellington to get its budgets and priorities right, and enable lower and flatter taxes that will spur investment and growth.

Capping the growth of government will allow us abolish Cullen’s 39 cent envy tax. Party vote ACT, and it will be gone by Christmas. That’s an important signal to send. We will no longer have a government that will punish those who try to get ahead.

Small businesses and the self employed will be motivated to create real wealth for themselves and the nation. It will be a signal to Kiwis overseas that it’s time to come home, their energy and enterprise will be welcomed and rewarded.

We are going to need them.

Party vote ACT and the thirty nine percent envy tax gone by Christmas. That will be a difference.

That’s the first part of a recovery package. It stops government soaking up even more of the resources needed in the export sector so we can pay our way.

The second part is to free up the economy so exporters can expand their businesses to take advantage of the lower real exchange rate and cushion the effect of the higher cost of imports.

That means reforming our labour market and the Resource Management Act. That’s what ACT’s Anti-Red Tape Bill does. That Bill is in front of Parliament and needs passing into law.

The third thing we must do is dump the dopey Emissions Trading Scheme. The Scheme was always a dog. It was all pain for no environmental gain. Now is not the time to be artificially driving up costs on businesses and households by creating a pretend market in hot air. The ETS will simply export successful New Zealand businesses overseas, making the real exchange rate problem worse. It will drive up costs for households, cost us jobs, and make us poor. The Emissions Trading Scheme has to be dumped and dumped fast.

A party vote for ACT is a party vote for smart green policies, not the dumb stuff. It’s a vote to dump the Emissions Trading Scheme…

…John Key ruled Roger Douglas out of his Cabinet. That’s disappointing. I guess that’s what John feels he has to do because otherwise Helen Clark will scare voters from National by decrying Rogernomics. But here’s the question John can ask Helen.
What is it about anything that Roger Douglas did as Minister of Finance that you would change?

The end to the wage-price freeze?

    The end to import licensing?

The end to opening New Zealand to the world?

Halving the top tax rate from sixty-six cents to thirty-three?

Would Helen change any of that? Come to think of it, she hasn’t. In fact, she and Michael Cullen voted for it. The lot.”

Philu claimed: “and his nationals’ ideologies are the freemarket/privatising/deregulation ones that have wrought the carnage on wall st/the global economy”

    Wrong and provably so.

    1. The lending institutions are all regulated by government decree and have been since the 1930′s. There is no free market.

    2. All governments control the money supply through central banks. There is no free market.

    3. And finally, when the Democratic Party gained control of Congress two years ago one of the first pieces of legislation they passed was one that forced lending institutions to give loans to people with bad credit, on the basis that not doing so “descriminated” against the poor and blacks. Which is an example of socialist stupidity, not the free market.

In short, it is ongoing centralized socialist control of the money supply, the banks and the economy, in the US, in the EU, in China and in Aussie/NZ that is responsible for the current mess.
