Strengthen the Coalition! Party Vote ACT

John and I are talking. Now it’s your turn to have your say.

You want to dump Helen Clark. You can vote either National or ACT.

Voting National will dump Helen Clark. Voting ACT will dump Helen Clark AND dump her policies.

Party Vote ACT to make our streets safe: Three Strikes and You are Out.

Party vote ACT to dump the dopey Emissions Trading Scheme.

Party Vote ACT to cap the growth in government expenditure: stop the waste.

Party vote ACT for ACT’s top five MPs; not National’s bottom five.

Strengthen the Coalition: Party Vote ACT!

You have my party vote Rodders!

  2. dime (3,925) Says:

rodney, i want to vote for you so bad. just terrified something goes wrong in epsom and my vote gets wasted!!!

are there any polls available for epsom?

what are labour polling – if a majority of them jumped to national would it oust rodney?

  3. democracymum (659) Says:

Rodney you have run an excellent campaign, good luck looking forward to seeing
    you as Minister of Prisons.

  4. Yeti (64) Says:

Dime, check out ipredict.co.nz, Rodney is 97% probability to win.

    Go Act!

  5. casual watcher (289) Says:

Dime – toughen up girlypants. Electorate vote for Rodney and party vote for the Nats. People who vote Labour are not smart enough in the main to work these things out.

  6. goodgod (1,363) Says:

Party and electorate vote here for ACT.

Dime, the solution is easy for you – party and electorate vote ACT. Quit worrying – as if a massive majority of Labour voters will suddenly vote National strategically. Have you been paying attention to their strategy lately? They couldn’t think their way round a 6L/m showerhead.

It’s in the bag. Labour gone. All shut up shop.

  7. Spider_Pig (53) Says:

    ACT will comfortably win Epsom.

    Party vote ACT!

  8. Doc (51) Says:

Party vote for Act from me.

(National electoral vote in Maungakiekie) …but am calling as many people as I can in Botany and endorsing Kenneth!

  9. headstuckinlawbooks (21) Says:

What do you think is best if we want to change the guvment? Party vote ACT, or Party Vote Nats?

Can someone give me an opinion? there’s discussion in our house about this at the moment.

I’d argue that we should be voting National because ACT will get a few seats on the coattails of Rodney’s Epsom win anyway, and that National will have a stronger mandate to govern with ACT & UF the higher their party vote – and that it reduces the opportunity for Labour to create their five headed monster.

Am I on the right track with this?

Or should we be voting ACT b/c the Nats need coalition partners?

  10. dave strings (608) Says:

Polls show Rodney well ahead and unmatchable in Epsom, so no ACT vote will be wasted. AS many have said there is reward for being a good and dedicated constituency MP.

  11. big bruv (9,839) Says:

    Dime

Don’t be a bloody soft cock, part vote ACT.

If Rodney does not win Epsom I will personally wash your car for three years.

    Rodney

You already have my party vote, now get out there and keep working for more votes.

  12. first time caller (371) Says:

    Two ticks for National!

  13. dime (3,925) Says:

bruv – ill think about it.. will ya wash my car wearing nothing but a g string? HAHA

  14. merlinnz (37) Says:

Rodney I always took you for an intelligent man.

If you believe this “Party Vote ACT to make our streets safe: Three Strikes and You are Out.” then you are less intelligent than I thought. You know there is no evidence that harsher sentences prevents future crime. If you dont believe it but use it as a hot button you are not so different from Winston.

  15. big bruv (9,839) Says:

Don’t push your luck Dime, I know you are one of those new age blokes who wears face cream but that does not mean that all of us have handed back our “bloke cards”.

  21. Danny-boy (82) Says:

Rodney, I support ya. I’m a National activist, because elections are won in the centre. But me an’ me family an’ all the centre-right folks I’ve been able ta convince will be votin’ for ya!

Advice ta anyone thinkin’ of voting ACT: do it! A larger ACT presence means a bigger driver fer real change! Here’s to a National/ACT majority coalition!

  22. chfr (126) Says:

Party vote ACT for me. Can’t wait to see Sir Roger back in the house.

  23. Danny-boy (82) Says:

  28. Turpin (342) Says:

I already voted yesterday as I’m traveling Sat.

Vote ACT and keep National on track for our futures.
They are going to win but they need the support.
I’m hoping for 5% for ACT even though Epsom will do it for Rodney.

  29. Exclamation Mark (66) Says:

Two ticks for Act here. I’m voting for Roger in Douglas, Hutchison does sweet F.A. for Hunua.

I want Roger back in Parliment – Economic balls of titanium – just what NZ needs.

    I agree with Rodders – better Act’s top 5 than National’s bottom 5.

  30. radar (316) Says:

Hey philu, the government didn’t create the wealth that you currently live off (ie the dole), hard working individuals did.

  31. Exclamation Mark (66) Says:

have you or the act party ever received any funding from any of the exoon-mobil funded front groups..?

Phil, nobody cares about you eleventh hour conspiracy bollocks, pleased sod off you vapid non-entity.

(God lord, I agree with Radar for once!)

  32. WraithX (295) Says:

Count me in as a vote for ACT!

  33. dime (3,925) Says:

philu – i think ya missed the message.. socialism is now “progressive” and your policies are all about “social justice”

  34. kisekiman (224) Says:

Posted my special ballot papers on Tuesday. Electorate vote National, Party vote ACT. Looking forward to seeing Sir Roger Douglas back in Parliament. I’ve been pissing off all my friends & relatives urging them to do likewise.

  35. WraithX (295) Says:

I really think that ACT is going to breach the 5% mark – they have done bloody well this election with their campaign and most people I know who are right voters are either definitely voting ACT or strongly considering it.

  36. PaulL (4,409) Says:

headstuckinlawbooks: voting either National or ACT has exactly the same result in terms of changing the govt – ACT is an assured coalition partner for National – same number of seats either way. Voting for National means you like National’s policies, voting for ACT means you like ACT’s policies. That simple. Vote either for the party that thinks WFF is a good idea, and that we need a special benefit for people who lose their job this year (v’s any other year), and only if they were so stupid to take out a huge mortgage and buy an overvalued house. Or, vote for the party that thinks we need education vouchers, don’t need an ETS, and wants govt growth held to inflation plus population growth. I know which one works for me.

Dime: there was a poll on Epsom, and it had Rodney 2:1 ahead of the National candidate. I doubt that will change – Rodney has been a good MP for Epsom and is well liked there. If he managed to take Epsom when there was doubt, and when the right in general were low, then he’ll hose in this time. If Bruv won’t come and wash your car in a g-string, then I’ll do it. But you can look and not touch. And looking really isn’t all that pretty, ’cause I’m not going to wax my hairy arse just for you :-)

  37. Ross Elliot (52) Says:

That’s a very good line about voting for ACT’s top five instead of National’s bottom five. Has ACT been using that in their advertising? Great tactic and perfectly true.

It’s become obvious that since centrist Key is firmly claiming ground zero, that many will party vote ACT to pull National back to some pro-market sanity… and every little bit will be needed.

  38. MikeE (550) Says:

National Benifits far more from ACT having as many party votes as possible up to the 5% margin under MMP. If national supporters want a strong centre right government, without filling up the backbenches with those at the bottom of the list they NEED to give their party vote to ACT tomorrow.

(Give your electorate vote to whoever you want, unless you are in Botany or Epsom)

  39. Gooner (995) Says:

Two ticks Residents Action Movement for me.

    Not!

National – electorate vote, ACT – party vote.

My electorate is relatively close between Labour & National so I have to keep the Reds out otherwise it would be two ticks ACT.

  40. PaulL (4,409) Says:

And philu: looked at your drivel. And it was drivel. You are wrong.

Care to make a bet? If National doesn’t form a govt, I’ll wash your car in my g-string. If National do form a govt, and Rodney doesn’t get back, you take up my side of the bet with Dime – so you go wash his car in your g-string. And if National form a govt, and Rodney does get back, you come wash my car in your g-string. Hairy arse and all.

Or maybe we give up on unenforceable bets, and instead go for this one. National get in, then you come visit kiwiblog and post a comment on the inevitable victory thread. Said comment to be very similar to:
“I was wrong, and I have once again demonstrated that I have the forecasting abilities of a lemming on P. All future prognostications of mine should be treated with the contempt that they deserve, and I accept that pretty much any comment I make here in future will and indeed should be followed by an avalanche of people pointing back to this thread, and noting that I have no credibility whatsoever.”

If, of course, National don’t get in, I will be prepared to make a similar comment on the inevitable “oh my god, how did that happen” thread.

    Deal perhaps?

  41. Adam (490) Says:

Philu, is there any truth to the rumor that you were abducted by aliens and in fact the entity before us in not the real Philu? Oh Na-Nu Na-Nu, Shazbot.

  42. MikeE (550) Says:

    Roy morgan is out:http://www.roymorgan.com/news/polls/2008/4334/

Thats two polls today with ACT on 4% (Roy Morgan and Fairfax/Neilson)

Can we make it past 5% tomorrow!~

  43. Danny-boy (82) Says:

MikeE, electorate vote in Botany’s a slight problem. If ACT gets say 2.5% of the vote and both Rodney and Kenneth win, ya get Rodney, Heather, and Kenneth. If ACT gets 2.5% and only Rodney wins, we get Rodney, Heather, and Roger. Kenneth’s a good lad, but I’d rather Roger. In a perfect world, we’d get both!

  44. MikeE (550) Says:

ACTs going to get more than 2.5% of the electorate vote, so that isn’t a problem.

And besides… Roger and Kenneth are both better than whoever we are going to end up with at the bottom of the nats list. We don’t need more Jacqui Dean’s

  45. WraithX (295) Says:

That Roy Morgan Poll is scary reading – it certainly puts NZF in with a chance of passing 5%. In all major centres it gets a minimum of 4% and a max of 6%. It also puts Nat/Act/UF on only 47%

  46. Ross Elliot (52) Says:

The Roy Morgan poll also has some depressing data: NZF is at 4.5%. If Peters’ gets back in, I’ll puke.

  47. bearhunter (859) Says:

Rodney, could you get someone to remove the ACT party board that is currently upsetting traffic on the southern end of Newmarket Broadway (just up from the Claddagh)? Cheers. The bill for my tyres will be on its way to you shortly, just as soon as you get a nice government job…:-)

  48. philu (10,919) Says:

“..Or maybe we give up on unenforceable bets, and instead go for this one. National get in, then you come visit kiwiblog and post a comment on the inevitable victory thread. Said comment to be very similar to:

  49. Danny-boy (82) Says:

Yeah, bring yer MA with ya, Phil.

  50. MikeE (550) Says:

“Ross Elliot (19) Vote: Add rating 0 Subtract rating 0 Says:
    November 7th, 2008 at 3:31 pm

The Roy Morgan poll also has some depressing data: NZF is at 4.5%. If Peters’ gets back in, I’ll puke”

4.5% is the best possible scenario for the centre right. Thats 4.5% of votes taht don’t go to Labour or the Greens. (Well actually 4.999999999% would be better.

This is assuming the votes dont’ come from people who would have otherwise vited ACT/UF/Nat

  51. Razork (372) Says:

That Roy Morgan poll is all over the place!
How relevant/accurate has it been previously?

One disapointing thing for me about the Nat parrty list is how low Stephen Franks is; hopefully he can win Welly central, but it is pretty close apparantly.

  52. tknorriss (300) Says:

So, how accurate has the Morgan poll been at other elections, does anyone know?

  53. Socrates (80) Says:

You can always vote Maori Party to reduce the effect of the overhang… If we could convince enough Labour voters to go that way…. Go Tariana and Sharples!!

  54. Socrates (80) Says:

“So, how accurate has the Morgan poll been at other elections, does anyone know?”

    Wasn’t it the most accurate??

  55. philu (10,919) Says:

whoar..national down to 42% in that roy morgan poll..

    http://whoar.co.nz/2008/national-party-on-42-in-latest-roy-morgan-poll/

    and um..razork..?

“..That Roy Morgan poll is all over the place!
How relevant/accurate has it been previously?..”

    bad news first..?

last election..roy morgan were the most accurate of the polling companies..

..they were right on the money..

    ..gulp..!..eh..?

    oh..more good news for you..

..they have the greens on 10%..

    ..phil(whoar.co.nz)

  56. gingercrush (153) Says:

Voting National not Act. Act is simply too extreme and too irrational for me to give my vote to them.

  57. tknorriss (300) Says:

I have read that the TV3 TNS poll was the most accurate for both the 2002 and 2005 election.

Isn’t there something with the way the Morgan is sampled in that it goes over a longer timeframe or something. If that is the case, it might not be picking up as much on the H-fee fiasco etc as other more immediate polls.

  58. big bruv (9,839) Says:

    phool

Don’t forget to pop back here on Sunday so we can all commiserate with you.

  59. dime (3,925) Says:

philu – would ya be this obnoxious if Labour were polling over 40% and national 30?

  60. Manolo (6,106) Says:

Whoar, pack your bags and shift to North Korea after tomorrow’s defeat.

Of course, you will not. Where else you would get the dole for being lazy, indolent, and idle all day long? Nowhere but NZ.

Losers like you are a disgrace to this wonderful country. Now, get back to your “cooking” duties!

  61. labrator (960) Says:

    philu said:

..i follow the treasury ethos.. ..never look back.. ..never explain..

then in the next post said:

… last election..roy morgan were the most accurate of the polling companies..

Explains a lot about your thinking philu.

  62. PaulL (4,409) Says:

Philu was pretty clear that he has no intention whatsoever for taking responsibility for his projections. If he isn’t prepared to stand behind his projection (even with something so simple as an apology if he is wrong), then clearly we should put no weight whatsoever on those projections.

As for Phil’s level of obnoxiousness Dime, for what reason do you think that Phil’s level of obnoxiousness changes with the polls? I have detected no evidence that it is in any way correlated to the polls.

  63. John Boscawen (137) Says:

Dime ( 2.06pm) you asked about polls in Epsom.

Act’s published poll from 2 weeks ago had Rodney on 56%, Richard Worth on 27%, the labour candidate on 10%, and Keith Locke on 4%.

If the entire labour vote shifted to Richard Worth, he would only rise to 37%, still giving Rodney a huge majority.

There is no risk of Rodney misisng out in Epsom. If you think about it, it would be crazy for National to want it to happen.

All Party Votes for Act will count. As Nigel Roberts remarked on breakfast TV, virtually all ACT marketing materials refer to “no party vote being wasted”, because of Epsom. He put the Act message very well. I could not have done a better job myself.

MikeE commented that a NZF vote of 4.999999% might be better. Maybe so, but it would not good for the heart.

  64. Matthew (167) Says:

The Roy Morgan poll overestimated both the Green and NZ First party votes by 2 – 2.5% at the last election (comparing their poll closest to the election and the Election Result). They tend to overate minor party support.

  65. Esprit (12) Says:

Party Act and Candidate National here (Tamaki)…… The left doesn’t have a show lads, we nearly have this won! :)

  66. Bullitt (106) Says:

Party Act. Candidate Stephen Franks…almost another Act MP. Aside from Epsom it must be about the most crucial Electorate….glad I can make more of a difference than I did in Dunedin South or Ilam.

  67. side show bob (3,646) Says:

    X

  68. Twocan (23) Says:

Im relying on you Rodney to keep John and the Nats out of the center left!!

  69. side show bob (3,646) Says:

Philu shouldn’t you still be packing, don’t forget the chains and whips in the basement and Dear Leader wants you to get rid of all those b&d downloads off the 9th floor computer. Come on, you don’t have time for posting there’s work to be done.

  70. Chthoniid (1,709) Says:

You know there is no evidence that harsher sentences prevents future crime. If you dont believe it but use it as a hot button you are not so different from Winston.

There are plenty of published papers in peer-reviewed criminology journals that tend to show otherwise. The evidence is certainly not definitive, but it is disingenuous to suggest there is no evidence.

Perosnally when I see wildlife markets in Papua New Guinea selling endangered dugong or birdwing butterflies (where the maximum fine is 100 kina) and when I don’t find panda or tiger in wildlife markets in China (where traffic has the death penalty), I struggle to see that the differences in penalties don’t have an effect on poaching.

  71. bringbackthebiff (106) Says:

F”%k u philu Capitalism is just havn a reality check, itll be back, the human spirit to produce and be successful will be held down by neither an adjustment due to out right greed (which like communitarianism is not the same a socialism is not the same as capitalism) or communist we all deserve regardless of endeavor flawed ideology.

Die Helen Die, Satan wouldn’t want her type upsetting hell.

c’mon kiwis see the light, wake up to your chance to create a brighter future

    Thanks DPF for you work

  72. aardvark (417) Says:

Sorry Rodney, your final address was crap!

If you read my blog today (or over the weekend) you’ll see that ACT gets my party vote but the final address was cringe-material mate.

Hell, your dancing was so bad that you turned that guy into a Labour voter! :-)

But seriously, I’d have thought that a final address was the time for focusing on policy and the things that distinguish you from the other parties.

Winston (who’ll never get my vote) did bloody well (after a really bad start) I have to admit and I suspect a lot of his former fans may have been swayed by his smooth-talking and a very well prepared speech.

The Greens were just Ma and Pa hayseed — that didn’t work for me.

Anderton was just too laid back and boring — no points for that.

I missed Helen’s pitch, but I find her drony “bigger balls than John” voice too hard to take most of the time anyway.

And I missed JK’s pitch too — but I doubt there’d be anything new thrown in at this stage.

What did others think… who might have connected with the swinging voters through those final pitches and were you turned off by Rodney’s “look at me, look at me” attempt?

Sorry Rodney — but it had to be said.

  73. OECD rank 22 kiwi (2,528) Says:

ACT can count on my party vote.

  74. reid (9,989) Says:

Key’s was superb IMO. Total contrast to Hulun’s. Key’s had lots of action shots, interesting visuals. Huluns was very poor and boring by contrast. Why anyone could think a full face shot of Hulun for several minutes is appealing I have no idea. I thought ACTs was alright actually, at least it had energy and it did show him as a man of the people.

  75. WraithX (295) Says:

I would just like to remind everyone that aside from last election where the papers said Rodney would lose Epsom, the ACT party has ALWAYS polled (on election day) higher than the Greens. I think it will be the same this year – prepare for a landslide to National/ACT.

  76. WraithX (295) Says:

bringbackthebiff: capitalism isn’t having a reality check – the problem is that the financial crisis is thanks to the left wing governments forcing banks to lend to people who are not in a position to borrow – the likes of philu – leeches stuck to the public tit. The US was fucked over by the democrats – first Carter than Clinton. Now that it has failed (as it should), the left are blaming free markets. It is exactly the same situation we have here – the free market changes made by Sir Roger which saved our nation are now condemned by the left even though they worked – and the most interesting thing is that the left haven’t reversed any of the changes!

What should happen is that the markets should be allowed to collapse and the people who bought houses when they shouldn’t, should go broke and move in to cardboard boxes on the streets. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

  77. Helensphotogenicimposter (244) Says:

Off early in morning on holiday. Will be on a plane when the election results come in.

I voted early. Party vote Act. Electorate vote National. (Margin seat of Hamilton West) Martin Gallagher the incumbant showed his desperation to hold onto office. He drove around the streets with a loud speaker asking people to vote for him! The race between him and MacIndoe will be close. However, We need to pull National away from the centre if we are going to have real economic growth to fund excellent governement services.

A little concerned that Winstons band of followers, who believe the world is flat, will see him return to office. Unless there is a last gasp rightward surge the 5 headed hydra will govern. Groan!

  78. clintheine (1,320) Says:

Gingercrush – I’m willing to wager you’ve never read ACTs policies as most Nats would agree with them, and the ones who don’t should join Labour.

I voted ACT last Saturday. I am so grateful we have Rodney there for us to articulate our policies. Lets put the nails into Labours coffin and yell out to all Labour supporters “DIDDUMS”

  79. mavxp (322) Says:

    Voted today in London.

Electorate vote: Nikki Kaye (National) for Auckland Central
    Party Vote: Act

    :-)

  80. Johnboy (6,624) Says:

Jesus Christ I’ve just read their lips and they are going sell everything the Government owns including WINZ and Rodders has vowed to shag every solo mother in NZ so Roger Douglas has more babies to eat. Arise NZ and vote for Helen as she will not let Rodders shag her.

  81. wikiriwhis business (1,176) Says:

    Congratulations Rodney,,

in the end I voted for you

simply made common sense and I hope that’s what we see a lot of in this country from now on
