Palin to resign as Governor

Sarah Palin’s announcement she will resign as Governor of Alask in a few weeks has caught almost everyone from surprise.
There are many possible reasons for this, but I think we can rule out a girlfriend in Argentina!
The indications I picked up in DC last week is she is seriously aiming for 2012, and hence my guess is she has resigned to free her up for national campaigning.

She can’t resign half way through her first term as Governor and then run for national office – she’d get torn apart in the primaries. Palin is finished in national politics.

Always thought she got a pretty raw deal from the press in the 2008 election (As did Hilary Clinton).
It’ll be interesting to see how she goes.
Been down with the flu for a day or two and had nothing better to do than surf the net, came accross this guy who made a movie on, amongst other things, Palins treatment.

It makes no sense, unless there are some scandals that she figures by resigning she will avoid.
July 4th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Funny how the mainstream media, those despicable cowards who have hounded Sarah Palin from day one, are now pretending to be innocent bystanders.
“Oh Palin has resigned. Wonder why.”
After they have printed and broadcast every yellow cowardly smear lie and exaggeration they possibly could against Sarah Palin and her family these mealy mouthed partisan charlatans have the damn nerve to ask why??
I hope she starts a new party and scares the shit out of those useless compromisers in the Republican Party- Noonan, Bennett, Parker, Frum, and McCain etc who have betrayed her.

After seeing them elect that idiot commie Kenyan Obama, that’s pretty hard to do.

Aaaaah, the sweet mental images that conjures up….
Umm… Danyl, resigning midway through her term does her credit. It is fairly obvious that she has become a national figure and she is not going to be able to do her job properly in Alaska if that continues. This is a smart move on her part, and it will be good for the Republican Party.

our resident scottish troll has deigned to work the weekend shift
what a privilege to be graced with his wit and wisdom
yeah how dare she mess with someone who jokes about her 14 year old daughter getting raped by a football player.
who does she think she is?
Letterman was just being edgy and out there, yeah! and he really meant to joke about her 18 year old daughter getting raped
so that makes it ok. see, those Palins are all sluts anyway, they should get a sense of humour.
whats that, oh yes “Caribou Barbie” just as well the left dont believe in the objectivication of women isnt it?
up to your usual standards there sonic.

Trying the sexist card Nigel? classy, oh and look fake outrage as well!
As a candidate she was never up to the job, as her conduct since losing has proved. Feign outrage all you like, that’s the reality

“Feign outrage all you like, that’s the reality”
Its nothing like the reality. Its the opinion of a brain damaged uneducated leftist loon who gets his information from totally discredited bottom feeding news outlets like MSNBC and apparently doesn’t know any better.

I see in all your excitement you have forgotten about the concept of a comma, calm down, we know you loved old Sarah but I’m sure she has a show lined up for Fox News as we speak.

She can see Russia from her house you know!

Palin is at once the sexiest and the riskiest brand in the Republican Party.
What does it say about the nature of modern American politics that a public official who often seems proud of what she does not know is not only accepted but applauded?
It says that the dumbing down of the US education system by right wing ideologues has worked. And the Natioanl Party wants the same for NZ – scrapping community education that does noy have “employment outcomes”. The right hate learning for learning’s sake because it creates well rounded citizens who can see through their lies and deceits.
Walter Hickel, 89, a former two-term governor and interior secretary, and the grand old man of Alaska politics, who was co-chair of Palin’s winning gubernatorial campaign, in 2006, now washes his hands of her. He told me simply, “I don’t give a damn what she does.”
During the presidential campaign, Palin’s deep ignorance about most aspects of foreign and domestic policy provided her with a powerful political reason not to submit to interviews.

sorry sonic i’m not as “sophisticated” as you evidently are, I dont need to fake my disgust at you.
and I didnt call her “caribou barbie, or criticise her for “messing” with Letterman.
want to address the substance of my comment – that its somehow ok for letterman to joke about a 14 year old girl getting raped because he doesnt agree with her mothers politics.
funny old world that “reality” based community you belong to. Must get quite crowded under that rock.
July 4th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
“I dont need to fake my disgust at you.”
Nigel, sorry that I don’t believe you but your outrage is so fake as to be laughable.
Unless of course you have a long history of campaigning against sexist taunts at female politicians? Perhaps lots of links to you taking umbrage at how Helen Clark or Sue Bradford are portrayed on this site?
Just produce some evidence Nigel and I will of course change my present view that you are yet another righty blowhard, falling back on moral outrage as they simply have nothing to add to the debate.
My favourite Palin quote was not about Russia as it happens..
“They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan.” –Sarah Palin, speaking at a fundraiser in San Francisco, Oct. 5, 2008″
How we will miss her!
July 4th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
“that its somehow ok for letterman to joke about a 14 year old girl getting raped because he doesnt agree with her mothers politics.”
What a lovely example mr letterman is to the American people. Tollerance and acceptance of differing opinions is flourishing in the land of the free, under the watchful gaze of the Obama messiah.
This is indeed the dawning of a new age.
July 4th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
How we will miss her!
Well, I’ll bet you’re enjoying Obama-
He claimed that Kansas tornadoes killed a whopping 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The actual death toll: 12.
[snip]
In Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by honing in on a lack of translators: “We only have a certain number of them and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” The real reason it’s “harder for us to use them” in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi, or other non-Arabic languages.
[snip]
The Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama’s “Dreams from My Father:”
“Then, there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.”
July 4th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
“Poor Caribou Barbie, she shouldn’t have messed with David Letterman”
your words sonic.
I see that unless i measure up to your infintesimally low standards you won’t change your view.
what a surprise. Well here’s how it is.
I don’t want you to change your view.
I want you to carry on exactly as you are.
Its people like you who ensured that labour lost the last election, and I think its important that everyone possible gets to see how you think, your lack of a moral or ethical compass, and your delight in cheap shots at anything approximating decent standards of behaviour.
So far you’re doing just great, keep it up.
July 4th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Red, perhaps the physically and mentally scarred man to whom the first Ayrab-American president was referring died this week, aged 50.
July 4th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
If thats her intention, its a bad idea.
She is too inexperienced to be president, and the resignation will only deprive her of an opportunity to gain experience.
July 4th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
“She is too inexperienced to be president,”
That’s right, much better to have a “Community Advisor”.

July 4th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
nicholas, I think you have to acknowledge RBs point (if not necc his style!
)
Obama had zero executive experience, and i think its showing.
I don’t necessarily think Palin would make a great leader. I think she would be a much better, and more reliable veep than Biden is turning out to be though.
I also think her acceptance speech was electrifying. One might almost say one could feel a shiver run up one’s leg. except I think Chris Matthews already used the phrase.
She unequivocally brought a huge surge (sic) to the lacklustre McCain campaign, which of course explains the absolute hurricane of abuse and attack she has been under from the left ever since
July 4th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
the deity formerly known as nigel6888, you do not get it do you, the Obama camp would love Palin to run in 2012, hell I can see it now all those democrats voting for Palin in the primaries.
Then come election time the ads would go up, female, if raped Palin would make you have the child if pregnant.
And that is the reality of US politics
July 4th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
So pursuing her own personal political ambitions are more important than serving the good people of Alaska who (misguidingly) elected her? What an arrogant diva.
And after having watched her entire speech on FOX I have no idea why she resigned. She didn’t even allude to it.
All those nasty rightwingers spouting their hate towards her must have gotten to her. Shame on Schmidt, Frum, Krauthammer, et al.
If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen I guess.
July 4th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
maybe I don’t get it hori, but you havent got one shred of evidence that Palin has ever forced her views on anyone else. As governor of alaska she has never opposed abortion. so thats really just another democratic talking point you’re spouting there.
and radar, thats unlike the freshman senator who started fulltime campaigning for the Presidency while supposed to be representing Chicago in what way?
Oh hang on, it is different, Obama didnt stand down to campaign, if thats what Palin plans to do.

Honestly red, it’s damned hard to tell the difference, although I think Tina Fey is more convincing.
But truly, the nutbat whackjob does a good enough job of sending hersle up, such is her stupidity.
But there were ominous signs—indications of an erratic nature. This is the third thing McCain could have discovered about Palin—a woman, after all, who kept a pregnancy secret for seven months, flew all the way home from Texas to Alaska with a near-full-term baby while leaking amniotic fluid, and then finally drove the 45 minutes from Anchorage to a hospital in Wasilla, all so that the child could be born in the 49th state. Palin was for the infamous Gravina Island “bridge to nowhere” before she was against it, and reversed herself only when such pork-barrel projects prompted a nationwide backlash. As governor, she hired several old high-school, hometown, or political friends with minimal qualifications for important state jobs. One friend, a former mid-level manager for Alaska Airlines, headed the department that reviewed candidates for state boards and commissions; another became director of the state Division of Agriculture, citing a childhood love of cows as one qualification.

Goodness I’ve not seen you this upset since October, poor St Sarah.
“Palin on which newspapers she reads: ‘Um, all of them.’
Tonight on the CBS Evening News, host Katie Couric asked Sarah Palin which sources she relies on for her news consumption. Three separate times, Couric tried to elicit a response from Palin about which specific newspapers she reads. Seemingly caught off guard, Palin could not name a single news source:
COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this — to stay informed and to understand the world?
PALIN: I’ve read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media —
COURIC: But what ones specifically? I’m curious.
PALIN: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.
COURIC: Can you name any of them?
PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news.”

Umm, Redbaiter, you do realise that frequent ad hominem attacks, and (as far as I can see) groundless insults add absolutely nothing to the discussion. Nor do they improve anyone’s opinion of you.
Back on topic, I must admit to being a bit disappointed at this. It seems likely that there’s some scandal bubbling away underground here and this ruins any chance of her running 2012. Meaning we miss out on some solid gold comedy, and of course the republicans might field a half decent candidate which would be a depressing combo-breaker.

Amazes me that you try and ridicule Palin when its your boy who can’t speak without a teleprompter-
OBAMA: Everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma, they end up taking up a hospital bed, it costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early and they got some treatment, and a, a breathalyzer, or inhalator, not a breathalyzer. (crowd laughing) I haven’t had much sleep in the last 48 hours.
How long you want to keep this up loser??

Now that Sarah’s not working, maybe Obama could hire her as a speech coach. She at least can speak without a teleprompter.
OBAMA: What they’ll say is, “Well it costs too much money,” but you know what? It would cost, about… It — it — it would cost about the same as what we would spend… It… Over the course of 10 years it would cost what it would costs us… (nervous laugh) All right. Okay. We’re going to… It… It would cost us about the same as it would cost for about — hold on one second. I can’t hear myself. But I’m glad you’re fired up, though. I’m glad.

When asked specifically about Obama’s foreign policy experience — and the Times report on European travel that Obama disputes — on Christmas Eve, presidential candidate and veteran U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., said he had some thoughts on it because “problems are mounting up by the hour.”
“This is not a time for on-the-job training and I say this with all due respect for people who have just sort of arrived on the scene without any proven ability to bring people together to make a difference,” Dodd said.
Added Dodd, “This is not a time for celebrity here. Iowans know that. They’ve managed to cut through that fraud in the past of celebrity and choose candidates who can go on and win a general election.”

” getting all frantic over pretty Sarah”
Well, what would you call it, seeking out and copying and pasting so many pieces you perceive as damaging to her in such a short time. you must be really driven.
What is it? Fear or envy?
July 4th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
After glancing at this thread and seeing the naked hatred toward Palin from the low life pinko scum I would say that she will thrash that idiot Obama come 2012.
If they did not rate her they would not comment, she will win but I suspect that by the time she does take control the USA will be well and truly fucked thanks to the monkey who is running the show at the moment.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
“seeking out and copying and pasting so many pieces you perceive as damaging to her in such a short time. you must be really driven.”
Can I call you “getting all frantic about pretty Obama?” then?

Edit
“thanks to the monkey who is running the show at the moment.”
Tsk, tsk.

Maybe Lisa Ann should run for Prez.

“After glancing at this thread and seeing the naked hatred toward Palin from the low life pinko scum I would say that she will thrash that idiot Obama come 2012.”
They are driven by mountains of fear and hate. After all, Sarah does not concede the correctness of the socialist position.
Thye will lie and smear in the same way they always do, and the Democrat controlled media will do their bit to attack and ridicule her, but she just might win in spite of all of that, and this is what Sonik and the rest of the cowards here fear, for all we need is one articulate Conservative as leader and the left are history. (they will be anyway when as you say, the moron Obama fouls it up so it completely)
They know that, and that’s why their nappies are full of runny yellow stuff.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
” who actually cares about the wannabe from Wassilla ”
You do you simpleton wank. You’re obsessed with her. You’ve posted about thirty hate messages at least directed at Palin. Fuck off you moron.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
I’d love to see a resurgent right in the US as much as anyone. It was partly to get as far away as possible from New Zealand’s leftward lurch under Helen that I came to the US in the first place.
However, I don’t think Sarah Palin is the leader to get the right back in the game. It’s not just that the left have successfully painted her as extreme and stupid (although they have) but that the Republican party has lost its way with regard to small government. Much of the current Republican leadership – Palin included – have poor records with regards to government spending (support for earmarks etc) and for keeping the government out of individuals lives (just for different reasons than Democrats i.e. conservative reasons such seeking to prevent a mother’s right to choose or a gay soldier’s ability to fight because it conflicts with their morals).
The US government is about to grow on a vast scale because of the Democratic Party. They will accurately point out that Republicans have been profligate too, but that they can be trusted to be profligate ‘for the people’ – see UK Labour). The Republican leader that brings the party back will have to be authentically opposed to large government – with respect to the economy and individuals’ personal lives.

Can I call you “getting all frantic about pretty Obama?” then?
Not at all Sonik, I’m merely amusing myself attempting to counter your panic stricken attacks on Palin. Thanks for the laff you feeble brain damaged loser..

Other posters have come and gone all day, but you seem to be sitting there, hunched over your keyboard ready to swat any one who dares point to the clay feet of your idol.

What else could it be. Are you normally so obsessively driven to post on politicians? Sarah scares you shitless you little commie weasel.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
camryn, red, big bruv, et al – everytime your brand of politics is put to a democratic vote, you LOSE. The only places your policies get traction in is when they are imposed by force, places such as Chile, Iraq, Sri Lanka.
Whenever they are given a choice between your fundie chicago school brand of economic voodoo and a liberal, mixed economy, you LOSE.
You bluff and bluster and crap on about the MSM, commies, biased media, etc, but the truth is your policies are not wanted by the majority. Every time there is a vote, you LOSE.
Must be horrid being consistent losers, maybe a few Everton fans could help you deal with your constant snatching of defeat from the jaws of victory.

Thats a little bit sad there Redbleater, go have fun!
July 4th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
“Hey, you pathetic little mainstream media fed whitebait and bigot, you want gaffes, go here-”
So I am a bigot, i.e. against a category of people, because I stated that Sarah Palin thought Africa is a country. I guess I could be a bigot against stupidity.
I fear for your health RedBaiter, so much anger, and venomous spouting must do no good for your blood pressure, I suggest you go and find a way to relieve some of that, unbridled anger at the world is not going to bring you happiness mate.

I’ve yet to see you ever argue anything. You’re constantly attempting to ridicule others. As you have done today with Sarah Palin and others. Its all you ever do. You don’t argue anything, just attempt ridicule.

MNIJ – Hey! I don’t “bleat on” about commies or MSM bias. I post infrequently, and only when I think I have something new or important to add. I don’t feel like a loser, either. Stability and democracy are important and I fully support electorates getting whatever they vote for, and that the electorate should have access to any and all information and views that will help them make the best choice. A free market for ideas.
But, as to the success of the ideas I support? Well, has the US not been the most free capitalist economy in the world for more than a century? And is it not the richest nation in the world with around 25% of global GDP? And is that not a good thing? Whether or not you think that wealth should be distributed differently, America’s poor are vastly better off than the poor in countries that have not had such growth (even though that lack of growth can be largely attributed to socialist policies for their ‘benefit’).
And, on social matters, I’m strongly in favour of the individual freedom – the government staying out of citizen’s lives and treating everyone equally no matter what colour they are and who they sleep with. I think the market rewards stable happy families and that people will naturally tend towards whatever works (generally anything stable and involving two adults in any household containing children) in order to be better off but it’s everyone’s choice. On that front, I think my views are doing increasingly well, thank you.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Those horrid communists at the Hiffington Post won’t leave poor Sarah alone, THEY think she’s got something to hide.

Who fucking cares that Palin has voluntarily resigned. There is obviously nothing wrong behind her reasons to do so. Media (regardless of its viewpoint) will absolutely have a tremendous impact on the lives of an unknown woman and her family who have been thrust into the spotlight – look at Jacko. Despite her mess-ups and controversial beliefs, this act elevates my thinking of her.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:52 pm

July 4th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
But, as to the success of the ideas I support? Well, has the US not been the most free capitalist economy in the world for more than a century?
The free market doctrines favoured by the chicago voodoo school’s disciples such as red and BB are not applied in the USofA. It too, is a mixed economy, and in fact, it is one of the most highly subsidised economies in the world. How else would you describe its military spending, its space spending and all the other government money that flows though the US economy, keeping it afloat?
The free market is not for domestic consumption, purely for export.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Calling black men Monkeys Big Bruv, what could possibly be wrong with that?
Keep up that good work!
July 4th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
I didn’t say it was free. Just the most free, at least amongst nations of scale (given that scale tends to make compromise more prevalent and thus making it harder to consistently apply any philosophy). So, I completely disagree with your assertion that it is one of the most subsidized economies in the world. You may be confusing the nominal scale of those subsidies (high) with their scale relative to the economy (low, compared to others). They can ‘afford’ large subsidies in nominal terms because of the extreme wealth generated by the fact that they’ve managed to keep them low in relative terms.
And when you claim that it is government spending that is ‘keeping it afloat’ rather than weighing it down then we move into the realm of ideological disagreement as well as factual disagreement.
July 4th, 2009 at 6:01 pm
“Redbleater, seriously take a break, you are just embarrasing now.”

For the record:
1. It was a baseball player, “A Rod” (Alex Rodriguez).
2. It was never about rape. The words he used were “knocked up”, meaning “gotten pregnant”. Bristol Palin, just turned 18, whom he thought was the daughter who accompanied Palin to the game, has already had one child, after getting knocked up by a high school athlete – hence the link to the “joke”.
3. The first time any suggestion of rape was raised was by Palin’s own spin team, presumably to try and gain additional sympathy (and publicity), which I’d suggest shows the true reaction of the (ex) Governor to the event – i.e. “Whooo! More publicity!”.
It’s been censored from YouTube but the original video is still here. No implication whatsoever of rape.
IMO it’s not even slightly funny. I much prefer this line from Bill Maher:

Bullshit. He knew which daughter it was, and she’s fourteen and its statutory rape. No real surprise that you’re trying to find excuses for your yellow liberal mate Letterman Rex.

July 4th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Cerium, take a nap.
July 4th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Redbaiter says:
And under US law, knocking up the then 17-year-old Bristol Palin was also statutory rape. Yet rather than have self-confessed “F***ken redneck” Levi arrested, Palin decided she’d let… no, not let, positively encourage… her daughter to marry the idiot. She paraded him in a suit and tie on McCain’s stage and mentioned him fulsomely in interviews.
Cue another joke, this time from Jay Leno:
But her morality isn’t an issue for me (she’s the one that keeps making it the issue). It’s the fact she’s dumb as a stump.
July 4th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Rex
“It’s the fact she’s dumb as a stump.”
And do you really think that Obama is any smarter without the telepromter?
Come on mate, you are without doubt the fairest commentator here, I refuse to believe that a man of your intellect has been conned into believing all that crap that surrounds the Obama messiah.
July 4th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
“It’s the fact she’s dumb as a stump.”
A cowardly lie. She’s achieved much more than you ever have or will Rex. Far more than any of her likewise cowardly hate driven detractors here. Palin’s only fault is that she is a Conservative, with a totally different world view to the one you jackals consider approved.
Wake up. You’re the losers on this one, and you’re going to be much bigger losers as time goes by. Conservatism is the new wave. Progressivism is old depraved and destitute. Obama is your last gasp, and look where he’s going to end up. Letterman and all your putrid and rancid heroes are gone. Can’t you smell the decay??
I think you can, and that’s why Palin sparks such frantic mass insanity. You know she heralds the end of your Progressive political paradigm. About time too.
July 4th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Right on cue. You really are a one-trick pony aren’t you Red? It’s curious you’re so vehement in your defence of Palin. I’d not picked you for a simpleton; a zealot sure, but not a simpleton.
July 4th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
big bruv says:
You won’t find me defending Obama anywhere, BB. I’d say he’s marginally smarter than Palin, but that’s about it. Biden, on the other hand, I’d say is way, way, dumber than Palin.
See, unlike Red (who seems to think I’m cheerleading for Obama?! I’d have prefered McCain, but the 2000 McCain, not the emasculated 2008 version) I call ‘em as I see ‘em. And right now I see a bunch of morons lined up to be Leader of the Free World. That one of them happens to be a conservative hockey mom doesn’t lessen the fact that she, also, is a moron.
And Red, an opinion is just that, an opinion. By definition it cannot be a lie, so I suggest you settle down and see if you can manage an apology. If, on the other hand, you can show me where I’ve lied I’d be happy to retract and apologise.
July 4th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Fair enough Rex, like you I also agree that McCain in 2000 would have been great for the USA and great for the world, he simply had no chance once the left wing media decide they wanted the Obama Messiah to be POTUS cos it seemed like a “cool idea”.
I don’t think Palin is dumb, she was certainly fed to the wolves by the McCain team and she should NEVER have been allowed to make the mistakes that she made but 99% of her problem was that the media recognised her as a real threat to their Messiah and set out to destroy her.
Had they gone after Obama with the same gusto the man would not have made it past the primaries.
July 4th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Oh come on now Rex, Obama’s politics mightn’t be to your liking but he’s in a different league to Palin who, quite frankly, is dim. This is a person who’s faith approximates a script from the Flintstones. A Biden too, what’s your basis for thinking he’s not too sharp?
July 4th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Paul
If Palin is “dim” then I shudder to think how thick Obama messiah is, the man cannot speak without a teleprompter, he is a liar, a fraud and a simpleton.
You would be able to see it if you open both of your eyes.
July 4th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
“And Red, an opinion is just that, an opinion.”
Naaah, its not an opinion Rex. Its a smear, and I call it a lie because it is a mainstream media (in the tank for Obama) generated perception that no reasonable and fair minded person could accept as true.
I tell you what I will accept. That you believe it to be true, but that of course is an (almost) equal slur on your judgment.
How you can say that a person who has achieved what Sarah Palin has achieved, and given the speech she gave at the inauguration, and faced down a corrupt Republican Party in Alaska, and dispatched the long time incumbent, and can shoot and hunt and fly helicopters and simultaneously bring up five children and help her husband crew his fishing boat is not only a hard working intelligent person but an heroic person and streets ahead of any of the cowardly slime attacking her on here.
What is important is that the right awaken to the left’s strategy of representing (via their lying yellow media cronies,) anyone who threatens them as stupid. The right must stop allowing them to get away with this strategy, for if they are stopped, they have nothing else.
Right wingers might wonder why I spend so much time defending against these attacks. I do it because it is important that the left are prevented from acting this way every time someone comes along who threatens their hold on power, and threatens to move the status quo away from socialism.
If you dismantle their smearing and lying apparatus, prove their allegations false, they have nothing and they lose.
Your choice. Let them do as they’ve always done or fight back.
To me, that’s not a hard decision.
July 4th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Time generally makes a fine wine, where by with Obama, time is going to make him look far far thicker than he looks now…. Perhaps in the end to be as thick as pig shit….
The folks of the mighty US of A will so so regret electing Obama, for sure many will not agree at this point in time, but as time goes on, more will come to agree…..
July 4th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
“This is a person who’s faith approximates a script from the Flintstones. A Biden too, what’s your basis for thinking he’s not too sharp?”
Paul, you’re so one dimensional you need to get a life. If you really don’t know of the many gaffes and blunders made by Obama but even more so by Biden, then you have no damn business even commenting on this issue. That’s the problem with you commies. You’re always so damn smug and arrogant, but you always only know half the story.

Sarah Palin has now been ‘vetted’ as thoroughly than any politician in recent memory; maybe more so than Hilary? Obama has not had one item of his considerable baggage looked at. The Vanity Fair article was the final inoculation to Sarah’s poli-immune system.
She is now freed up to be a conservative guided missile aimed at the weak, pasty, fat liberal underbelly. This is gonna be a lot of fun seeing Sarah do the circuit blowing up all the Obamacrat pretense as she goes along.

And since when has a President or Prime Minister been perfect from day one…….. It is amazing how the vast majority of you lefty’s would rather vote for candidates whom have never had a real job! Go WebWrat, great post…………….. it is running similar to the NZ Labour party “fighting more visciously than ever”
July 4th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I still can’t get over the fact that she still thinks she stands a chance at this – with such inexperience it certainly paints a “desperate” outlook for the American Republican party and ultimately the Conservative camp of political America.
If a nearly retired war veteran and a mother from Alaska is considered the “golden china” for the party I guess this means the Conservatives are stuck again with yet another 40year term of Democrat domination in the White house.
Bring it on I say, the last thing we need is another Republican administration. Oh and don’t worry, the Democrats will keep the top seat warm…
July 4th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Fale, are you suffering hand on cock, what you think Obama has copious amounts of experience!!!!!!! If so, get your hand off it big guy…
July 4th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Big bruv:
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the media and the public’s schoolgirl-like infatuation with Obama that made McCain lose in 2000. He didn’t even get the nomination then, remember, though ironically that was when he deserved it, not by the time he’d capitulated to the idiot Republican “strategists” (the same people who thought, “Hey, a female Veep would be a good look…”).
McCain lost in 2000 because the GOP went for another complete numpty as its candidate.
If McCain had won in 2000 I suspect the Iraq war would now be over (without damaging America’s world standing) and the country would be in a stronger position to weather the GFC under whoever was now President (and, without 8 disastrous years of Bush to play off, I doubt that person would be Obama).
It’s not my phrase, but it sums it up: John McCain, the best President America never had.
Paul Williams:
Obama’s got more book learnin’ and is significantly more eloquent. But behind that eloquence I don’t see much more substance than I see in Palin. Maybe “marginally smarter” wasn’t the best choice of words.
Oh now that’s an easy one. Like I’ve tried to explain to Red re Palin, I don’t rely on the evil commie hatemongering media to form my opinion of how plain dumb someone is, I listen to their own words and arrive at a conclusion. Here’s some of Biden’s:
Not quite Bushisms but not what you want to hear from someone who could assume the Presidency. Thankfully Obama looks healthy.
Biden was also accused of disclosing the location of a classified bunker and had to be rescued by the White House spin machine after he said he was advising his family to avoid confined spaces because of swine flu, and sparked a panic.
Obama seems to dismiss him as a bit of a joke. Asked about commentrs the VP had made concerning the potential success of the $787 billion stimulus package, Obama laughed. “You know, I don’t remember exactly what Joe was referring to, not surprisingly”.
Like I said, not exactly a Mensa meeting up there on the hustings.

Is this Sarah’s goodbye quote
“Only Dead fish go with the flow”
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/2009/07/full-text-of-palins-resignation-speech.php?ref=fpban
Truly astounding.
Lets not forget however our host’s take on all of this.
“The indications I picked up in DC last week is she is seriously aiming for 2012″
Nostradamus strikes again!
July 5th, 2009 at 12:18 am
“Truly astounding.”
To you maybe. But who are you? just some pathetic little commie weasel and Klark flunky who kissed socialist feminazi arse at every opportunity. You’re probably astounded by a lot of things other people find quite normal.
July 5th, 2009 at 1:34 am
“You’re probably astounded by a lot of things other people find quite normal.”
Hey look, a blue car. WOW
John McCain would’ve been a good president if he won back in 2000, He is one of the more likeable Republicans. One of the factors in McCain’s loss in 2008 was that he thought the religious far-right will make him win, hence he had to harden up his beliefs. He tried appealing to mainstream America but failed. Yes the appointment of Palin boosted his popularity in the short term but she ultimately messed up (and the media exaggerated it). I don’t think Obama is JC reincarnated but he will make or break the USA. I hope its the former but I don’t envy his position he is in. He may easily screw up.
If the Republicans were to come back to power, they need to appeal to the centre-right faction the Dems have swallowed up. If they want less government, they should stop interfering with state Biology classes, women’s wombs and bedrooms. If you don’t like evolution, don’t take a class that teaches it. Don’t like abortions, don’t get one, you’re still satisfying your god’s beliefs. And lastly if you don’t like other people of consenting sexual orientations, well, don’t partake in their type of activity and don’t get a civil union.
(BTW: I’m NOT a leftard)
July 5th, 2009 at 1:52 am
“(BTW: I’m NOT a leftard)”
Naaah, you just want the Republicans to be the same as the Democrats.
Not going to happen.
Not any more.
July 5th, 2009 at 2:23 am
Eighteen different Palin smears sourced from the Democrat controlled mainstream media posted to this thread by sad inarticulate leftists with no ability to write a message of their own. (Mostly by the despicable little yellow back Sonik, so frightened by Sarah Palin he’s ordered a double issue of adult diapers all the way to 2012)
July 5th, 2009 at 3:08 am
“Naaah, you just want the Republicans to be the same as the Democrats.”
Oh, is that right Redbaiter, well these are the following things the Democratic Party support which I don’t.
- reversal of tax cuts
- Al Gore, he’s exaggerated every single fact about global warming and wins a Peace Prize in the process. Totally a stupid idea.
- The opposition to the Iraq War. I supported it in order to depose of Hussein.
- Gun control. I support the right to bear arms by any law-abiding citizens such as shopkeepers when they’re being robbed.
Meanwhile, these are the following things the Republican Party support which I also support.
- fiscal conservatism and economic liberty
- opposition to some aspects of abortion (third trimester abortions, and supporting parental consent for minors)
- the death penalty
- a strong military
What YOU need to realise Redbaiter, is that not every NZer is a Christian and that you are NOT perfect (neither are commies like sonic, who are also stuck firmly in their beliefs). If I receive anger from both you and sonic (sonic (2639) 6 10 Says:July 4th, 2009 at 5:53 pm ), well, I’m obviously a centrist social moderate like I found out my beliefs are. Meghan McCain is certainly correct when she described the fact there “there is a civil war looming in the Republican Party.” And when the Republican Party ditches the authoritarian religious right who desperately want to shove their morals down everyone’s throats, that is when they’ll bounce back. I would have leant towards McCain had he picked a better choice for a candidate but he didn’t, he lost (and graciously accepted his defeat mind you, compared to a certain greenie) and the world moves on, albeit shakily. You want to get of political correctness? well don’t replace it with theocratic correctness
July 5th, 2009 at 5:59 am
David
I believe your instinct is correct. Palin singlehandedly enabled the GOP to avoid a Goldwater/McGovern sized defeat. People forget that until the market meltdown in late September/early October 08, McCain had pulled ahead of Obama in the daily tracking polls and Rasmussen (by far the most accurate pollster for the last 4 election cycles in the US) had McCain ahead in the key swing states of FL, OH, PA and by amounts just beyond the margin of error. This strong showing, which wiped out Obama’s fake Acropolis Democrat Convention speech bounce, was solely due to the Palin pick and Palin’s strong speech at the GOP Convention in Minneapolis. A market meltdown of that magnitude was always going to impact the candidate of the incumbent party (witness the electoral/polling fate of incumbent Labour Govts in UK and NZ).
Palin has endured the most vicious, sustained, underhanded and brutal attacks from the left and their MSM water carriers. No politician in US history has had their spouse and children so utterly and continually villified and needlessly dragged into the political arena. In addition to warding off Letterman’s gross insinuations, Palin has been the subject of a sustained and orchestrated series of ethics complaints in Alaska – all of which have been proven to be baseless (as of today she is 15 for 15 in getting these dismissed). All required expensive legal defence most of the cost of which must be paid for by the Palins.
Alaska is the absolutely worse state in the Union to try and run for President from. It is 4 hours behind Eastern Time and it takes a whole day to fly there from the east. Consultants (and other necessary campaign accutrements) just would refuse to relocate to Anchorage and every time Palin leaves the State for anything other than official business, the local media whine. Any exploratory trips to IA and NH would require days away from her office.
Media talking heads will write her chances off, call her a quitter and continue with their raft of unpleasant mocking attacks. My pick is she will now have time to travel and learn, to recruit a campaign team but more importantly, fill in some of her obvious policy gaps. She has charisma and an ability to connect with middle America in a way that frightens the left. Weak and ineffectual opponents are not attacked, they are ignored. Palin has a long way to come close to the strong almost wonkish policy grasp of Romney and she lacks his business and governance experience on 3 crucial hot button issues right now (the economy, health care and the auto bailout). She may choose to sit out 2012 – she’s young enough to still be a young Presidential candidate in 2016.
Watch this space – everything I have observed about Palin is that she is not a quitter and that this move may end up being a very shrewd step to a bigger political future than ever.
July 5th, 2009 at 7:13 am
ophiuchus – Here here. I agree the Republicans will only bounce back when they support small government in all its forms… in the market, in our homes, in our bodies.
Pandering to religious conservatives makes impossible for the right to win the center. So the left takes it and thereby advance their illogical make-believe. Religious conservatives will eventually choose to support small government that at least gives them freedom to practice their beliefs in their own lives and communities when they realize that using government as a tool to force those beliefs on others (as they’ve been trying) just throws the whole system to the left, who pass laws that will actively prevent them from doing things they believe in.
July 5th, 2009 at 7:18 am
“Eighteen different Palin smears sourced from the Democrat controlled mainstream media posted to this thread”
And what guarantee can you give that your sources are correct and anything that disagrees with you are incorrect? There is a lot of crap in the media, and it’s coming from all sides. You just abuse any opposing point of view and make wild assumptions. It seriously reduces your credibility.
Palin has achieved a certain amount for sure. She was exposed and overdone by the media last year, but she has undone herself just as much. Her speech yesterday (as posted on her own website so you can’t blame the MSM) will change little in perceptions, her deaf followers will still love her and the growing number doubting her potential to go further politically will have had those doubts reinforced.
July 5th, 2009 at 7:41 am
She has charisma and an ability to connect with middle America in a way that frightens the left.
‘The left’ LOVES Palin – she splits her own party and has single digit support amoungst independent voters. She is Obama’s dream opposition candidate.
July 5th, 2009 at 7:51 am
No doubt she was over scrutinised, grossly and unfairly at times. But she invited attention to her family by including them in her campaigning, that was her choice.
IF she is preparing to run up to the campaign she has a lot of home work and organisation to do. If she can become a viable contender she will prove herself. Not before that.
July 5th, 2009 at 7:55 am
If the left love her and see her as a dream candidate to run against Obama as you say Danyl why do they invest so much time and energy in taking her out?
July 5th, 2009 at 8:03 am
If the left love her and see her as a dream candidate to run against Obama as you say Danyl why do they invest so much time and energy in taking her out?
Most of the people ‘taking her out’ are the Republican legislature in Alaska and the strategists and advisors who worked on the McCain campaign. Her enemies are in the GOP, not the Democratic Party, and the media writes stories about her because she sells newspapers. If the Dems had a crazy white-trash beauty queen in their party then I think that person would get just as much attention.
I don’t know why Palin resigned – but I do know that Palin did not suddenly resign half way through her first term on the 4th of July weekend with a rambling, incomprehensible speech as part of a brilliant strategic move.
July 5th, 2009 at 8:25 am
Quitting midterm, however, is highly unusual. It set off speculation about what led her to leave so abruptly. One interpretation among Republicans was that she had simply underscored how erratic she is as a politician.
“Good point guards don’t quit and walk off the floor if the going gets tough,” said John Weaver, a former senior strategist for Mr. McCain. “Today’s move falls further into the weirdness category; people don’t like a quitter.”
July 5th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Camryn the Republicans and small government ?
So when did the Conservatives ever support small government ?
All those who rant on about socialism in the states seem to share one thing, they live in conservative states and all believe they are owed tax payers money from wealthy well educated liberal states via Washington DC.
Now if you believe you will ever see small government in the USA I have a bridge for sale.
July 5th, 2009 at 10:14 am
“It seriously reduces your credibility.”
Cerium, you need to get something straight. I do not write comments here in a desperate mission to gain the approval of simpering leftist twits like you. You come to whatever conclusion you like about my credibility. Given that you’re a leftist, its clear you have the reasoning ability of washing powder. Credible to you or not, I don’t give a damn either way you arrogant socialist mushbrain. I’ll write what I want to write.
July 5th, 2009 at 10:19 am
“‘The left’ LOVES Palin”
Yeah sure they do. You can see all that wonderful affection on display on this thread. Moron. If Palin was really the big winner for the left they attempt to project, they’d hardly be so feverishly obsessed with discrediting her. Tell the truth for once.
She scares the shit out of you because she represents a rejuvenation of the forces you and your ilk have spent decades burying under lies and slander and misinformation, and the unification of the Republican Party around those forces.
The forces that the left have no real defence against. Other than lies and propaganda, and they’re fast running out of that commodity.
July 5th, 2009 at 10:25 am
That’s nineteen cut and pastes. The left are so inarticulate, but in the case of MNIJ, the inarticulateness is only the tip of the iceberg. The silly little weasel is so stupid he makes Sarah Palin look like she could run rings around Albert Einstein. Funny ain’t it, how all the knuckle draggers are so naturally caught up in the vortex of socialist propaganda.
July 5th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Sarah Palin can’t run rings around anything, except a demented, sore arsed loser called redbaiter.
Sarah Palin, wonder politician, who can’t even finish the job she was elected to do.
Sarah No Ticker Palin is getting out before she is thrown out; the scandals around her governorship would have seen her whipped at the next election, in fact so lame duck was this dead fish, that she could have been beaten by The Washington Generals!
Sarah I Read All Of Them Palin, who still thinks Africa is a country, that Afghanistan is America’s neighbour and that you give people greater freedom by denying them choice.
Sarah I Can See Russia From My Porch Palin, the reporter-avoiding, generalization-spouting underachiever.
July 5th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Oh look, he’s responded to the challenge and written something himself.
Cheap third hand gibberish and worthless propaganda. Fuck off jack, you’re just a deranged attention seeker and liar with the intellectual consistency of fresh diarrohea.
July 5th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Nice try Danyl
Her opponents on the right did little more than leak the usual tensions that exist in a Presidential campaign – that there were divergent views on who McCain should pick – nothing new here. The MSM gave a voice to anyone in the GOP who had a criticism about Palin whilst those who were supportive of the pick largely stayed silent. In the wider GOP, there was the usual debate over a running mate as has been the case ever since Presidential candidates began to choose their running mates.
The few snarky comments made by Steve Schmidt and other GOP operatives pales into insignificance alongside the voices on the left. Katie Couric gives Obama a worshipful interview full of softballs and then puts Palin through the wringer. Sullivan (who long since left the GOP fold) blogs that Trigg was Bristol’s daughter not Sara’s and Huffington Post and Daily Kos spread this and a raft of other untrue rumours. The bulk of the ethics complaints and procedural tactics against her in Alaska are from her Democrat opponents aided by a few Republicans still smarting at Palin cleaning up the corrupt GOP old boys network. Prominent leftist feminists were the ones to pen the bulk of the snearing vicious attacks and other prominent left leaning writers (such as the recent rambling screed published in Vanity Fair) carry on the bimbo caribou queen meme with the MSM gleefully reporting this all including every juicy morsal of Bristol’s pregnancy and giving voice to her ex boyfriend. The media wouldn’t dare publish kiss and tell stories of Michelle Obama in college or try and interview the Obama girls school friends. CBS had a reporter openly seek tittle tattle from Palin children school friends. The double standard between the sacrosacnt private lives of the left’s favoured candidates versus open slather on anything in the private lives of candidates from the right reached a whole new stratospheric level with Palin. You say she got few attacks from Democrats – they didn’t need to any of the real dirty work on Palin – their friends in the pundocracy and media will do that quite nicely for them.
MSM interest in the release of the Annanberg Challenge Foundation papers (the left leaning Chicago education foundation that funded pet schemes of the left and had the infamous Bill Ayers on its board) and the organisation that Obama ever actually ran: ZERO
The number of private detectives and specialist researchers sent or commissioned by major media outlets to dumpster dive in Alaska: FOURTY SEVEN.
I too dont know why Palin resigned – but the precise words she used on the day she did it will long be forgotten in 2016 when she is most likely to make her move. For the record, whilst I admire Palin and agreed with McCain’s choice, she would not be my first choice of Presidential candidate for 2012. Danyl is merely reflecting the CW of the left.

That’s OK, kiwi, you were still a damned sight more coherent than redbaiter or Sarah We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction Palin.
July 5th, 2009 at 11:53 am
“That’s OK, kiwi, you were still a damned sight more coherent than redbaiter”
Hahah, thanks for the laff dumbfuck.
For a ranting irrational and ignorant dimbulb like you to profess to have any inkling on “coherency” is the most laughable thing I’ve read here yet.
You couldn’t string two sentences of original thought together into a legitimate point if your life depended upon it.
July 5th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Kiwi In America- I truly admire your contributions, but IMHO you make a mistake in reaching out to the left (such as Danyl) with reason.
There’s no point. They already know all of this. They know what you are telling them. Your great work matters to them not one jot.
Because they are engaged in a strategy of deliberate deceit. They are intent on mocking and ridiculing Sarah Palin because they see this as their best defence against her candour and popularity. There’s no return on attempting to reason with this vileness.
The left know very well that the media is in their pocket. They know Palin gets unfair treatment. They know they sent 47 lowlife propagandists to sift Palin’s rubbish while they failed to scrutinize the current thug in the White House to any degree at all.
They know all of this because its their design. Its useless to appeal to them for fairness and decency. They are evil, a malevolent force opposed to freedom and democracy, and the only way forward is not to pander to them in the mistaken belief they can be reasoned with, but to expose them for what they really are.
July 5th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
We know that Sarah Only Dead Fish Go With The Flow Palin is terminally stupid, as anyone reading her resignation speech can see.
She rambled, she was incoherent, she contradited herself, at at the end we are left with only two indications as to why she resigned – the job is too hard for her, or she is getting out before she is indicted.
July 5th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
“We know”
Who is ‘we’ Jack? All the other third formers there helping you write this laughable infantile second hand stuff??
July 5th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Red, your ranting and abuse make you look like a twat.
You accuse others of hate but you are the most abusive here.
You accuse others of lying but you make the most outrageous claims.
You don’t back up your rants but abuse others for putting in supporting quotes and links.
It is not difficult to be left of you, just about everyone is.
It’s unusual to see such a raving rightie that isn’t Christian.
July 5th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Thanks for those opinions Cerium. As worthless and tiresome as they are, you have every right to express them, (even if it is breach of protocol in being off topic to the thread.)
The only interesting point to me is that you are actually arrogant enough to presume I would be concerned that some piffling white ant commie doesn’t approve.
I’ll say it again dipshit. I do not post here with the objective of earning kudos from fuckwits like you.
Try and get the message, and save your boring arrogant and narcissistic revelations for a more appropriate occasion.

Ah, I thought it must have been a breach of protocol disagreeing with you.
You fly off on any sort of abuse you choose no matter what the topic.
You accuse of arrogance?
You accuse of worthless and tiresome?
You accuse of making presumptions?
You talk about appropriateness?
But no, I don’t expect you to listen to anyone else, unless they are your cheerleaders.

You just don’t get it, do you Red?
If yourr candidate is an idiot, you lose.
If both sides put up idiots for candidates, the one with the bigger idiot loses.
Simple Sarah was the biggest loser.
Lisa Ann would run rings around her, in fact, I think she already has.

That’s right. So why hang around here whining?? Its not as if you ever write anything worth engaging on. Look at your last three posts. All off topic worthless self obsessed crap.
July 5th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Redbaiter: “self obsessed crap” – as the saying goes, point one finger, three point back at yourself.
There are people here other than you that are worth discussing and debating with. Maybe your aim is to try and drive away anyone who won’t pander to your ego but so far I am as free to remain as you are.
July 5th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Make that four posts.
This is a thread on Sarah paliu idiot. its not for some navel gazing narcisitic to take up copious bandwidth on complaining because things aren’t the way he’d like them to be. Either piss or get off the pot you insufferable whiner.

You are off topic again Red.
“This is all about getting attention isn’t it you child. ” – yes, that’s how you come across.
“Fuck off.” – that isn’t your decision.
“I’m done with you and your time wasting spoilt brat shit.” – perhaps you could take some of your own advice. Then you wouldn’t waste your time.
July 5th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Cerium, your last post sums up your brain matter!
It staggers me as to how a lefty thinks, other than expecting everything handed to them on a plate….
July 5th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Whafe, I doubt you have any idea how lefties think. Nor how middlies think – and if Palin can’t figure that one out she will remain on the fringes. Unless of course she has decided to pull back from politics, and I wouldn’t blame her for that. Especially over there it is high risk and plenty of crap.
July 5th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
I too dont know why Palin resigned – but the precise words she used on the day she did it will long be forgotten in 2016

Maybe you’re right KIA. You were wrong when you predicted Romney would win the GOP nomination, you were wrong when you predicted Hilary would win the Democratic nomination and you were wrong when you predicted McCain would beat Obama, but maybe you’re right this time around and Palin has unexpectedly quit her high profile job and gone into hiding because she thinks that’s a great way to campaign for president in seven years time.
July 5th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
On July 24th, Sarah will be free from the constaints of office and the gloves will be on.
Her lawyers have sent out a lovely letter that will have the left crapping their pants. She does not need to work, she will earn plenty from all the defamation suits she will win:
http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/07/statement-from-gov-palins-legal-counsel.html
Oh this will be fun!
July 5th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Red is right about one thing, the thought of Sarah Palin in control of the largest nuclear arsenal in the world scares the living bajevious out of me, along with her thoughts on homosexuality, healthcare, abortion, foreign policy, sex and you name it. Thankfully it is fairly unlikely to happen, primarily because she is a liability to the Republicans, because people with Red’s views on the world are not numerous enough to vote such a nut job in.
July 5th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
“Red is right about one thing, the thought of Sarah Palin in control of the largest nuclear arsenal in the world scares the living bajevious out of me”
Better, like Sonik, stock up on adult diapers then because Sarah Palin is presently far more popular amongst Republicans than anyone, with Huckabee and Romney way back.
So sounds like you’ve got things arse about face.
Its your extreme left views that are going out of style.
July 5th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
“Far more popular amongst Republicans than anyone”
You missed the point of my statement Red, they need the swing voters to win the election, the party faithful are not going to do that, and to an educated swing voter Palin represents everything that many dislike about the Republican party.
We will see what happens. And I would hardly call my views extreme left, maybe liberal, but wouldnt say they are going out just ticking along.
July 5th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
I do recall KIA being wrong about Romney and arguing grimly to the end that McCain might pull it out but on this point….
I should let KIA speak for himself, but since this is really just the usual ‘right-wingers are morons’ slur perhaps some examples are in order….
Hardly sounds like a Clinton’s-gonna-win ramble, more like a balanced pro-con analysis from KIA. And that’s just from one thread – from early May 2007!
July 6th, 2009 at 3:13 am
Danyl
Saying my predictions of Romney winning the nomination or McCain prevailing doesn’t change the truth of my analysis of the way Palin was treated none of which I note you refute. Your comments merely reveal the fact that you buy the left’s spin on Palin hook line and sinker. A classic example of this is the oft repeated line that she said she could see Russia from her home. She actually said that Russia was a neighbour to Alaska (which is true) but the left distorted her actual comments to make her sound bimbo like and flakey. Actress Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live said the “I can see Russia from my window” line in a skit but it was repeated enough times by other media and commentators who wished to destroy her that people actually believe that’s what she said.
There is no denying she was underdone on foreign policy when she was selected and that was clearly exposed in some media interviews. As we watch Obama lurch from foreign policy blunder to foreign policy blunder we’re seeing a true novice surrounded by Carter-like ideologues in action. The world’s rogue states know that they’re dealing with a weak and inexperienced neophyte who wont stand up to them.
It is way too early to tell what the real long term impact of this decision will have on her ambitions. She’s spent her political life upsetting applecarts and that’ unlikely to change.

PALIN: And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they’re doing in Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia.
She was grossly underprepared for what she was thrust into, largely not her own fault, but she did choose to run with McCain.
I agree, it is way too early to tell what the impact is of her resignation – I doubt even she doesn’t know what she is going to do at this stage. She has to want to go further (she may not and who would blame her?), and she would also have to overcome a lot of doubt in the Republican camp to get as far as the nomination.

Poor Cerium. Still the small child squealing for attention. See a shrink nut job.
July 6th, 2009 at 10:48 am
That’s certainly John Dickerson’s view http://www.slate.com/id/2222221/
So that’s it, she’s candid? Hell Red, that’s appealing but it’s not the only skill I’d hope the president might have. Perhaps you can list some of Palin’s other qualities or credentials? I know she’s had more executive experience than Obama had, that’s giving full weight to her burdensome responsibilities as Mayor, but what else precisely do you feel are her claims to office?
July 6th, 2009 at 11:06 am
“Still the small child squealing for attention.” – Palin? Red?
July 6th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Mr. Williams, it puzzles the hell out of me why you would posit the OPINIONS of a Slate writer as something that will win your case. Where’s the authority? Where’s the weight? Whats the point?? I don’t even click the damn links its of so little interest. All you commies and your damn links. FFS, all worthless partisan propaganda.
Don’t answer that. Its rhetorical, and in reality I know why. Let’s get to the meat.
Your claim (and the claim of every other anti Palin nutjob out there) to be concerned about her experience is fake. These concerns come from the same people who proposed Caroline Kennedy as a senator over candidates with years of experience in the public political arena.
The original point of the “no experience” canard (among Republicans) was that as Palin’s experience was perceived as only slightly more than Obama’s, this would neutralize Republican attacks on Obama on this basis.
Neither Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher had great experience in politics but developed into two of the greatest leaders in modern times.
If Sara Palin were campaigning for President, she probably would not have made the centerpiece of that campaign a dumbarsed plan to divide Iraq into three autonomous regions. She would not have told General Petraeus that he was “dead flat wrong” on the surge. She probably would not have voted against the first Gulf War. She probably would not have opposed the United States designation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. She probably would not have told top Israeli officials, as reported in the Israeli press, that Israel would just have to learn to live with a nuclear-armed Iran.
Sara Palin probably would not have assumed that the answer to failed diplomatic negotiations with Iran was more diplomatic negotiations with Iran.
If Sarah Palin had been in the Senate in 1973, she would not have been one of the five Senators opposing the Alaska Pipeline Bill.
To claim that Palin’s lack of experience is why you oppose her is manifest nonsense.
You oppose her because she does not buy into your socialist world view. She stands as a clear example to all that a person can be happy and succesful independent of the socialist paradigm. And you just cannot allow such an example to be observed by the masses you seek to dominate, for they may then emulate her and then where does that leave your stinking corrupt socialist edifice???.
Finally, here’s something (below) for you to reflect on. A brilliant example of how Democrats in the media used their influence to try and undermine Palin’s appeal.
The good thing about all of this is that they have by far over played their hand, and most of America is now well aware that the mainstream media is a poisonous anti-democratic cancer in society. What they did in 2008 will not work in 2012.
Obama interview by Charlie Gibson:
How does it feel to break a glass ceiling?
How does it feel to “win”?
How does your family feel about your “winning” breaking a glass ceiling?
Who will be your VP?
Should you choose Hillary Clinton as VP?
Will you accept public finance?
What issues is your campaign about?
Will you visit Iraq?
Will you debate McCain at a town hall?
What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech?
Palin interview:
Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? Specifically have you visited foreign countries and met foreign leaders?
Aren’t you conceited to be seeking this high level job?
Questions about foreign policy
-territorial integrity of Georgia
-allowing Georgia and Ukraine to be members of NATO
-NATO treaty
-Iranian nuclear threat
-what to do if Israel attacks Iran
-Al Qaeda motivations
-the Bush Doctrine
-attacking terrorists harbored by Pakistan
Is America fighting a holy war? [misquoted Palin]

I’m willing to put $50 into a pot to buy Redbaiter a one-way ticket to Alaska. Anyone else keen?
Everybody would win. Kiwiblog loses the rabid screaming and the inane flame wars, and people might actually be able to discuss things with some civility for a change. Instead of the usual shouting past one another that passes for “discussion” on this forum.
Baiter gets to worship/stalk his girl to his heart’s content. he could even skip across the border to Canada for some French lessons: “Bonjour Sarah, je’m appelle Nicholas Sarcozy…”
July 6th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Ratbiter, another brain dead communist too lacking in perception education and intelligence to understand its not really about Palin. Its about freedom and democracy, and telling Americans that partaking drunkenly at the font of socialism is not an unshakeable prerequiste for becoming president of the USA.
July 6th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Voters in the USA exercised their freedom not to elect an utter fucking joke as their VP. Where’s the problem?
IMHO, any Republicans who fail to learn from 08 and continue to support this divisive, ridiculous bimbo are not doing their party any favours.
July 6th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Could you be more pavlovian? Dickerson’s a widely published political commentator with White House experience. His credentials are clear. Besides, I merely noted that Danyl’s views were echoed by Dickerson.
Most of your response is full of strawman arguments, many of which are prefaced by imagining what Palin might have done had she been in Senate/office during various crisis. Odd argument.
I am not the US media Red, I am not the ghosts of your past defeats, I am not the embodiment of the VLWC. Don’t make me responsible for various misdeeds that burn you, they’re irrelevant to this discussion.
I don’t think much of Palin because she’s the poster-girl for uber-conservative, evangelical Christians who believe the most important qualification for leadership is baptism. Palin’s a neophyte. Here in the real world, I’d like a leader to be attuned to slightly more than that. I’ll confess to being a little star-struck by Obama, but it’s his deeds in office that most concern me (and convince me that he is what he appears to be and not just the facade you claim).
Judgment is always coloured by perspective, your’s and mine are irreconcilable, however in this instance, the judgment of American voters was that Obama’s term or two in state/federal legislature, his policy for presidency and his capacity throughout the campaign were superior to McCain and Palin’s. I wonder if McCain mightn’t've have done better with a less polarising VP, but we’ll never know.
Finally, the selection of questions you cite is interesting. Perhaps there’s a bias there, I don’t know anything about Gibson. It might however, simply be that Obama seems more capable on these matters, less in need of testing. He’d certainly written and spoken on foreign policy and set out an alternative to the current Administration’s which has been disasterous.
I really don’t know why you’re so inflamed by Palin’s cause.
July 6th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
“judgment of American voters was that Obama’s term or two in state/federal legislature, his policy for presidency and his capacity throughout the campaign were superior to McCain and Palin’s.”
Oh crap, Obama was elected by a combination of media bias and vote fraud (ACORN) and appealing to an illiterate and uneducated under class (a product of Democrat policies) with meaningless slogans like “Hope and Change”.
“I really don’t know why you’re so inflamed by Palin’s cause.”
See my response to the idiot Ratbiter (I mean the name says it all) above.
BTW, you’re seriously uninformed and out of touch. You’ll learn that soon. There is a deep growing anger in the US at the way Democrats steal elections by (among other means), attacking Republican candidates through their Democrat media partners. You’ve shot your bolt over Palin, and you’ll be paying for it for a long time.
July 6th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Oh right, thanks for pointing that out. I guess that’ll be what’s behind all those election petitions (and I suppose it’s better than legislatively disenfranchising black people).
Thanks for the skinny. I visit here to review the insights of those who’re truly connected to the political zeitgeist. The contrast between your earlier bluff and bluster and now this, rather muted, denunciation is hilarious.
July 6th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Pretty pointless blather there Mr. Williams. I’ll let that pass as a no comment.
July 6th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Red, sadly almost all discussions with you end in this fashion… I did ask you a straight question, what is it you like about Palin, but you choose to answer it by imagine what she’d have done in the Cuban missle crisis or some such… pretty pointless blather I gotta say.
July 6th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Are you nuts? I was addressing your assertion that her lack of experience precluded her from becoming vice president. You commies are always so dim its a damn wonder I remain polite as long as I do.
July 6th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
No, I asked a simple question, I’ll repeat it:
So can you, simply, list her claims to be VP aside from her executive experience as Mayor of Wasilla (which I acknowledged was, or at least could be claimed, more executive experience that Obama had)? Just bullet points will do.
July 6th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
I’ve done that. That was the point of the list you seem to have so much trouble comprehending. By means of her political viewpoint, she would have made much wiser decisions than Obama in foreign policy. I don’t know what it is you want further. Why don’t you say what it is about Obama that you think qualifies him above Palin?
Obama is a lawyer who was a “community organizer,” whatever the fuck that means. He was a civil rights attorney, and worked with such noble organizations as ACORN, preently under investigation in numerous states for vote fraud.
In his 12 years as a law school professor, Obama failed to publish a single damn item.
Politically, Obama spent eight years in the Illinois Senate and joined the U.S. Senate in 2005. Palin, on the other hand, served four years on the Wasilla, Alaska, City Council and six years as the mayor/manager. She became the first woman governor of Alaska in 2006. She was doing things while Obama was voting absent 90% of the time.
However, much of Obama’s time in the U.S. Senate has been spent running for president. His life as an Illinois senator was so busy that he was still able to teach law at the University of Chicago.
Meanwhile, Palin out in the real world, was making actual decisions and forming budgets.
Where Obama accomplished SFA as a legislator, Palin actually got things done as a mayor and governor. During her tenure as mayor, she reduced property tax levels.
Face it. Life as a legislator is simple. You have an aide tell you what a bill means and then you cast a vote. You have very little responsibility and the ability to get anything done is very limited.
Obama had not crafted a single government budget. He had not made a single executive decision. He has not implemented a single governmental policy. In fact, running his campaign is about the only management experience Obama has ever had, and in reality he had fuck all to do with that either, having handlers and a teleprompter do all the work and failing miserably when they weren’t around to save his useless arse.
As I have already said above, some of the greatest presidents had very little governmental experience while some of our worst presidents were career politicians. Senators, historically, have made poor presidents while governors generally do a much better job.
In the end, actual government experience is less desirable than strong character and strong beliefs in limited government. That certainly describes Palin more than it does Obama, and its why she’s in reality the better choice by a light year.
July 6th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
‘Palin’s proud know-nothingness may have thrilled the guns-n-god crowd, but intelligent conservatives knew that she lost far more votes than she gained — indeed, lost whole states like Indiana, otherwise trending Republican. The chutzpah of her press conference, with its claim that to serve a full term without the intent of re-election is to be a “lame duck”, is a perfect reversal of the position that service and ambition should hold in any honest notion of politics. The continued claim that Alaska — a federal-funded basket case — is some sort of beacon of small government is another lie that wouldn’t survive a primary winnowing.
The narcissistic bubble that Palin inhabits — such that she would see July 4 as a natural day to make it all about her — is, like Mark Sanford’s crazy Argentinian adventures, or the self-indulgent tea parties — the effect of a political movement in such disarray that its proponents can only sustain themselves with illusion and diversion. Most of the Republican big-beasts — Huckabee, Rove — have washed their hands of her, though she may well prove useful as a sort of party cheerleader, which is what she seems to aspire to.
Just about her last publicity appearance was an interview in Runner’s World, which featured her in full jogging gear, and sheer pantyhose, looking like an extra in a Devo film clip, in which she challenged Obama to a running race. In like spirit her remnant supporters go into the standard deeply confused political er-tics of the right, one praising her “balls of steel”, another urging her to be “Big Daddy to Obama’s soft mama”(!?!).’
Guy Rundle slightly savvier!

lloydois, just read that in Crikey – you beat me to the quote.
July 6th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
So what? Just more left wing opinion. Pointless. Feeble. Just another manifestation of the sickness and obsessiive mass mania of the left. Trumps nothing. More an indication of your own paucity of understanding and argument than anything, except perhaps your frustration at your own gross ineffectuality.
All you jerks can do is post boring pre-conceived left wing opinion. Why? What’s the point? Only the left could be so dumb.
July 6th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
“appealing to an illiterate and uneducated under class”
What sort of people do you think Palin appeals to?
What proportion of the population?
I agree that Obama wasn’t backed by a great resume. But condemning him before he has done the job is unfair. It’s a huge task anyway, and he has to also try and overcome some major messes left by his predecessor and circumstances. He has made a mixed start but it is too soon to say how he will measure up overall.
July 6th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Obama appears to be implementing the Cloward-Piven strategy from the highest possible position.
July 6th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
But there are so many more crazy theories about America’s craziest Alaskan Anger Bear, the snowbilly grifter and strip-mall Ice Queen of Wasilla. Let’s examine them, together!

Hhahaha, link after link after link to the same propaganda. Poor thick as pigshit Kiwiblog commies haven’t got a brain cell between the lot of them.
July 6th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Sarah Palin, a snowbilly grifter who spent her entire adult life desperately trying to become a Public Figure, apparently wants her attorneys to stupidly and pointlessly threaten American practitioners of free speech regarding our public figures and elected officials.

Red, I think you deserve Palin. Fortunately an ever increasing majority in the US aren’t interested in the Limbaugh quotebook, they think, so they think differently.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
I sincerely hope you are right Red. No, truly.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Ciao, Sarah.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Oh for god’s sake, if she was any sort of leader she’d be able to look after herself politically, only losers whine about how the press treated them. And quitters.
July 7th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Which raises the question – where’s redbaiter been all day? Losing? Quitting? Or consoling the losing quitter Palin?
July 7th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Wow you lefties are obsessed with Sarah Palin. Get over it!
For a glimpse at the opinion of a left wing feminist check out this:
