    It always surprised me when fellow leftists were excited and hopeful about Obama. It struck me as something like an animal-rights activist being excited about a vegetarian becoming CEO of KFC.

    Nothing so clumsy – if you’re going to attack gays you have to go big, and Goff would have a caucus revolt on his hands; I wouldn’t be surprised to see a coded attack on feminism though: a late January speech to a sports club or church group on how ‘kiwi boys are being let down/left behind’
