Update to story on media access for visit from Chinese VP
June 17th, 2010 at 1:12 pm by David FarrarI blogged on Monday about complaints local Chinese media had not been able to get access to the visit of the VP of China.
DIA sent me on Tuesday an e-mail which I have attached to the original post. The key part is:
We can assure you there is no attempt to block the local Chinese media from attending various activities during the Vice President Xi JinPing’s visit or adopt any form of censorship. Invitations have been issued today to local media including Auckland and Wellington based Chinese media.
Better later than never!

Mike, I was about to pose that question myself.
Also, will Chinese “security” officials be permitted to, once again, man handle New Zealand citizens going about their lawful business?
Will these Chinese “security” officials be armed?

Robert – the answer would lie as follows:
If President Obama visited New Zealand, the USA Government would send one or two bulletproof limos across for his transport, and yes, the Secret Service agents accompanying him would be armed.

Will a LAV do a satisfactory job of squashing a protester or should we be considering the purchase of a single MBT solely to carry out squashing in a rapid and humane manner?

peterwn, in addition to the two bulletproof limos, there would also be an aircraft carrier stationed just off our coast in case it all went pear-shaped.
