Mike Williams on future leaders
October 5th, 2010 at 9:00 am by David FarrarAt the 2006 Labour Party Conference, Mike Williams said on Agenda (8 July):
“I can think of between six and a dozen people in that caucus who could lead the Labour Party.”
My question to readers. Who do you think was on that list? This is from the 2006 Caucus.

Were looking for names of people who wouldn’t make a decision without instruction via text message, right?

Philip Taito Fields. One of the most principled future labour leaders.

Does one of them own a talking parrot? Or a semi-trained monkey? Because that would instantly make them qualified to rule the Labour party as a puppet for their pet, and still do a better job than who they have currently.

Other than potentially Cunliffe/Hughes they have all missed their chance now so will be left to the 2008 intake – a few possibilities there but will be 6-9 years down the track – Robertson/Ardern/Shearer/Twyford – thats about it though – National Party is in a much stronger position in terms of future leadership potential – the 2008 and 2005 intakes were both very strong

Based on the wikipedia list for the ’05 election, it’s actually not that hard to come up with half a dozen names of people who, at various times, have been touted as having leadersip potential.
Making it easier for myself, I’m going to assume Williams mean’t “I can think of between six and a dozen people in that caucus who could lead the Labour Party… at some time in the future, and after Helen chooses to step down of her own volition”.
The list then includes…

Phil Goff
Annette King
David Cunliffe
