Auckland CCO appointments

December 10th, 2010 at 8:24 am by David Farrar

Whale Oil highlights how four of the secret appointments by to CCOs were of politicians who failed to get elected in their own right.

One example is who was rejected by voters in standing for the Henderson-Massey Local Board, Waitemata DHB and the Waitakere Licensing Trust.

But Len has put him onto the Auckland Transport CCO.

Even worse, the appointments (done with no Council consultation – just a ratification vote) include two members of Len’s campaign team reports the Herald:

The mayor’s office has confirmed that two of the new appointees, Pacific Trust chief executive and Pacific business leader , were members of Mr Brown’s election campaign team.

So of the 12 appointments Len made, four were of politicians rejected by the voters, two were of members of his campaign team, and one his controversial former CEO.

Just how does that disqualify them from being a director of a CCO?

[It does not disqualify but to have so many failed politicians appointed will piss the voters off]

We’re afraid you’ve missed the bus.

    Great piece of verse Coventry.

Then THE VOTERS will get to pass their judgement. Not you. Not the fucked whale. The Voters.

Of course, we all know that when all is said and done the Notional Party don’t give a flying fuck for democracy and the voters, as the voters of Canterbury know full well.

I am shocked and horrified that left-leaning Len Brown is giving positions to his supporters instead of right-leaning John Banks giving them to his.

Oh, no I’m not, it’s because Len Brown was elected and John Banks wasn’t.

(And who should we blame for establishing a super-city where the super-mayor can super-secretly super-appoint super-people?)

Meanwhile, the whole country has to live with the input of 5 Act list MPs, brought into parliament solely on Rodney’s electorate win coat-tails and not voted for by anyone at all. Anyone. At all.

    Swings and roundabouts.

So 50% of eligble voters actually voted & of that 50%, 50% voted for Len, so one way of looking at it would be that Aucklander’s couldn’t really give a flying fark who’s in power or who they appoint otherwise we’d have turned out in greater numbers

And just how much consultation with Mayors, Councillor or anyone did Rodney Hide do when making his appontments to the CCOs before the Auckland Council election?

Zilch, I recall. But I didn’t see you complaining then, DPF.

I suspect Len Brown is just attempting to get some balance to offset the Hide cronies that are already on the CCO boards.

National won the deal hands down as all of this – secret appointments, croneyism, future stuff-ups, ballooning costs, grandiose schemes etc etc – will all be sheeted home to Looney Len and the Left.

I have to smile when the media tries to suggest John Key was disappointed Banks wasn’t elected. Nonsense. What better outcome than a string of stories like this one feeding steadily into election year!

“At least it’s not John Banks” is the most fucking stupid attitude I think I’ve ever heard in Auckland. Worked out real well for us with Huckbard, didn’t it? Face it, Len Brown is just as spoilt and corrupt as any other left/right wing politician you care to name, and the fact of the matter is that you vote for someone, not against other people.

So no doubt when Kerry Prendergast gets those SOE board and quango appointments after being rejected by voters, DPF will be the first on the barricades protesting.

It will all coast along until the average Aucklander wakes up and discovers Len’s grandeous schemes will have to be paid for by them, and it will actually cost money out of their wallets.

That is when the shit will hit the fan.

David, when can we expect to see a similar post critical of John Key’s decision to appoint Hekia Parata as Minister of Ethnic Affairs and Minister of Women’s Affairs, given her recent rejection by the voters of Mana?

[DPF: Not much a rejection when you take the margin from 18% to 7%]

What do you expect as regards governance from a Leftie. Weve got the same old retreads No new blood just the same tired old faces repeating their stuff ups from the past.

The agenda is to bleed the rich pricks and reward those areas who voted for Len “put it all on the card” Brown.

Look forward to BILLIONS of dollars wasted All our hard earned money.

There’s a word for the feeling one gets when Rodney Hide carefully crafts a structure to cosset and reward the loyal troughers of the right, and it gets captured and used to mollycoddle and reward the loyal troughers of the left.

    It’s schadenfreude.

Unless of course you’re a loyal Nat. Then you write a blog post hoping everyone will share your faux outrage :-P
