Social media is a great example of something which is hugely popular but which, for the sake of humanity, probably shouldn’t be.
Cheap derivative of the ‘I have to pee’ one. Also, the Google+ text should be ‘Where did everyone go?’

I’m glad that I’m not on Facebook, Twitter or anything else. Commenting on blogs is as close as I get to using “social media”.
