What you didn’t hear from Radio NZ
March 13th, 2012 at 10:22 am by David FarrarWhale Oil has the audio of a Cecil Walker on Morning Report yesterday slagging off Ports of Auckland, talking about how he is forced to walk work 16 hours a day and how the 10% offer from POAL is not worth losing his family over, and how he used to work long hours and almost lost his family over it as he was working 80 hours a week. He even said how one of his kids said he never sees him as he is always at work. He concludes his family is more important than money.
This makes POAL look like a heartless employer, with no consideration for families. However an e-mail to Whale (I presume it is accurate) paints a very different story of POAL, of how they gave Walker 21 weeks off on full pay when his wife had cancer, how they had a limo pick them up from their house to take them to and from Christmas in the Park to meet Frankie Stevens, and even how when he had a baby, The company tracked them down to where they was staying and sent a 5 tiered baby gift basket to him.

Luxury! When I was young we had to work 80 hours a week, get paid $91K before overtime, subsidies up the wazoo, free on the job trade training. Try telling the young people of today that..they wont believe you.

You young people dont knwo the meaning of hard work. When I was young we had to work 36 hours a day 8 days a week. We were allowed a piss and shit break every 19 hours. And every 21 hours we were given a teaspoon of cold gruel and four crumbs of bread.
Talk about hard work You dont knoe the meaning of it

I find Morning Report has deteriorated markedly without Sean Plunket.
Being interviewed by Geoff Robinson and Simon Mercep is about as threatening as being slobbered on by a 15 year old labrador with no teeth. Neither seem to bring any scepticism to the interview. Neither seem prepared to ask penetrating questions, or to call their interviewees more egregious claims.

National will be selling Radio NZ soon is that correct?
No?
Still happy with funding an outfit constantly working for your political defeat I guess. You’ll excuse me if I take no notice the next time any National politician or activist whinges about Radio NZ.

Reason #958 why the government shouldn’t own a news outlet.

Re-Virtualmark at 11.28am.
You said it Virtualmark. My view precisely.
The avuncular Geoff Robinson is fine for the warm fuzzy stories, but they sorely need another Sean Plunkett to put the hard word on some of the slippery people they interview.

Katherine Ryan is OK, as is Jim Mora (though not as incisive as Ryan). The news desk/editorial staff show their sympathies a little too much though. And dear God there are some shockers on Mora’s ‘The Panel’ sometimes; the incredibly annoying Anna Chin sounds like a 17 year old gaia-anarchist.
