Sky City donations
April 22nd, 2012 at 11:29 am by David FarrarMatt McCarten writes in the Herald on Sunday:
As you can appreciate, it’s a highly political environment these operators and the casinos live in.
Consequently, political donations to candidates and parties are rife. Both mayoral candidates, Len Brown and John Banks, received generous financial backing from SkyCity and last general election National and Labour picked up $60,000 apiece from them.
This is massively incorrect. The donations of $60,000 to National and Labour (and $12,000 to Progressives, ACT and United each) were not at the last election, or even the election before that but three elections ago in 2005.

I would have expected Matt McCarten to have prioritised his energies to work out how he was going to repay the ~$160,000 in PAYE monies that he owes the IRD.
Instead, he tries to create a storm in an area devoid of a ripple on the water?
Pfftttt….

Yet now considered as fact by 95% of readers.this is a blatant error and you wonder if Matt did this intentionally.

McCarten is a hypocrite and a fraud, pure and simple.
Vote:He has no credibility whatsoever.
An absolute nobody.
Now for the real news…..

McCarten has no credibility at all, who gives a toss what he has to say on this or any other matter, 99% of what he trots out is blatant lies anyway.
The man owes us $160,000, the minute he pays that back I might start listening to what he has to say.

@wreck1080
Happens all the time. And when you write to the Herald complaining about all the inaccuracies they hide behind ‘but is is an editorial, an opinion piece’.

Slight aside
if retractions were forced to use the same inches as the original articles that would be a great deterrent

Ahh the 2005 election where nobody really knows who spent who’s money or how much it even was – thanks to Labour deciding that protecting the PM from a court case was more important than democracy.

Surprised that IRD have not served Summary Judgement papers on the poor deluded man for his debt. Perhaps they feel sorry for him as he is a lost cause.
