Well done Peter Burns, or Dad4Justice. You’ve joined the rare group of people who are now banned for life from Kiwiblog.
UPDATE: It was not Peter. See this post.

“You can be a bit petulant about this as you have done with me. I assume he was pretty bad risking law suits etc”
Follow Nickb’s link. You will need to go toward the end of the comments. There is no issue of risk management or self-preservation involved with DPF’s decision. There are times when it is increasingly apparent that a poster is so poisoned and cancerous that he/she has to be excised. D4j displayed a malignancy that cannot and should not be tolerated by any right thinking citizens. My only problem is that by banning him we pretend he does not exist. He does and will no doubt spread his poison in other venues.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 11:58 am

Peter Burns has single-handedly managed to set back the whole cause of equal treatment for kiwi dads under NZ law with his foulmouthed ranting over the years, but his post on Whale Oil’s blog is the lowest of the low.
D4J you are a malignant cancer in NZ society and you deserve all of the bad karma you’ll called down on yourself

Yes it was in poor taste and I was very fond of Margaret. She was a good sort. But a life ban or any ban. No I defend free speech even if it is in poor taste. Cam can take it, Margaret could certainly give as good as she got. That was one thing I liked about her.

@tvb d4j/Peter Burn’s free speech rights have not been infringed or even curtailed. He’s just lost the right to use someone else’s property to let the world know what an awful individual he is.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:09 pm
To say that banning him is a restriction on freedom of speech is the same as saying that arresting some for assault is a ban on freedom of movement. No-one enjoys the freedom deliberately to inflict hurt on others.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:21 pm
tvb, this is more about freedom of disassociation.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:26 pm
David opens up his blog for comments from anyone. It is a matter of what liberal values he wants to promote. The 22nd amendment does not apply clearly. Instead we are privileged guests and heaven help us if we offend the great one with something he finds offensive. Nothing liberal about that.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:37 pm
This has nothing to do with free speech, but someone choosing not to associate with utter fuckwits. tvb, you’re telling me if someone came to your house and started abusing you or your family, you’d grin and bear it because it’s all free speech, right? Lily-livered apologist for scum.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:39 pm
Oops that should be 1st amendment not the 22nd which refers to Presidents only serving 2 terms. I was watching Clinton on CNN and he had some interesting comments about that.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:39 pm
tvb, the liberalness comes from how little he finds offensive enough to use the ban-hammer.
Your position is like the lefty who says “oh, you prefer free market solutions? You must be an anarchist then”. Its similarly extreme.
You seem to think that the liberal ideal of freedom of speech extends as far as not walking away from people saying offensive things. Or to allow spammers to post comments. How is that any different?
Its “freedom of speech”, not “obligation to listen”.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:41 pm
No my hone is private space. I even hate receiving phone calls into that space. No David’s blog is public space.
[DPF: No it isn't]
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:44 pm
DPF:
You can be sure of one thing: Peter Burns will try to return under another alias.
Two aliases that immediately come to mind are “Father Ted” and the very short-lived “stigotracy“.
So very likely he will be back, in pursuit of Big Bruv and others, just under yet another alias.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:52 pm
Burns is lower than shark shit. To hell with free speech… That was really hitting below the belt.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 1:52 pm
tvb,
No, KB is David’s private space. It is, in fact, analagous to the private space that is your house.
- The Internet is the window into the house. Those passing by (URL) can look inside.
- Looking inside does not grant right of entry
- User registration is the door to allow entry into the house
- DPF [ ] comments and demerits are how he guides appropriate behaviour for his guests
As with your house, David is under no obligation to allow anyone in, or to remain. Similarly he can ask people to leave for his own reasons and is under no obligation to justify them – just as is the case in your home.
His evicting D4J is to freedom of speech what you asking a guest behaving inappropriately [to you] to leave your home is.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 2:06 pm
Although I think it is pretty disgusting attacking someone who is so obviously grieving for a recently lost parent, the likes of Cameron Slater really do incite this form of attack as a consequence of their utter contempt for the values and sensitivities of others.
For the life of me I cannot remember anything Dad4Justice or Peter Burns has contributed anywhere, apart from the Whaleoil contribution, and I am a little disappointed in seeing Farrar overreact, regardless of the bile apparent, to a comment on someone else’s blog. You either believe in free speech or you do not; believing in free speech with limitations is not a belief in free speech; believing in speech within limitations is an endorsement of restricted speech.
Those here who support Farrar’s decision to ban Peter Burns do not support free speech, and this decision is anathema to the lip service Farrrar pays to his belief in the ideals of classic liberalism.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 2:18 pm
Oh for fucks sake. THIS ISNT A FREE SPEECH ISSUE!!
You havent addressed a single fucking counter point thats been presented here. Why not?
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 2:18 pm
This has nothing to do with free speech.
Free speech means I can say whatever I want, and the government can’t make it illegal. It doesn’t mean that we have to publish everything that someone else wants to say.
Free speech isn’t an issue in this incident at all.
I agree strongly with free speech, and defend Burn’s right to say what he did. But he can say it on his own blog, or on a street corner, or in a newsletter he writes himself. No-one else has an obligation to publish what he says.
The guy was being a cunt, so he was blocked.

Yoza
D4J has a history of abusing all & sundry when he loses the plot which occurs on a fairly frequent basis. If you go back to 9th Dec last year (on GD from memory) you’ll get an idea about what he’s like.
In this particular instance he managed 110 demerits in 22 minutes for, as far as I know, an all time KB record & it didn’t stop there…..he kept abusing DPF by email afterwards. Your sympathy is well misplaced.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 2:38 pm
Can I please say, um, in defence of cunts…I quite like them
Oh, and tvb, youre a dick. Free speech my arse. Welcome to DPF’s place, figure it out.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 2:43 pm
Surely the comparison is the Letters to the Editor page of the newspaper, or a talkback program?
As an editor / broadcaster I tried to publish everything that wasn’t outright illegal (and even then only to preserve the survival of particular medium) but I wasn’t obliged to do so. If I took a decision not to publish someone’s correspondence, or to “dump” them and cut them off air, then their freedom of speech assured them of the right to publish their own newsletter, or invest in a bullhorn and a stepladder and see what sort of audience they could draw. And I’d be there defending their right to do so.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 2:44 pm
From what has been said here, Burns’ diatribe was a disgusting personal attack levelled at a grieving individual who has just lost his beloved mother. Even a degenerate leftie like me knows that there are times, places and appropriate circumstances for robust exchange of views and quite another when someone is in deep mourning for the death of a parent. And I’ve said exactly the same thing when Barbara Summer Burstyn delivered her mindless diatribe against the late Corporal Jacinda Baker. Cam is in probably quite enough pain as it is without Burns adding to it. At times like this, I don’t care about ideological labels.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 2:48 pm
Slightly off point, and not being a reader over there, I did however follow the link above to trace the controversy, I gained a fine and inspiring impression of the late Mrs Slater from the text. She certainly came across as somebody willing to engage other views, something not that common these days. Gently reminded of those one does not easily swear or curse in front of because of the dignity they hold. Salute.

Nasska referred to the D4J meltdown thread above.
Here’s a challenge for those who feel inclined to defend D4J’s “contributions” (in the broadest sense of the word):
- Start here.
Vote:- Identify which of D4J’s apparently defamatory comments qualify as “freedom of speech” (bearing in mind that DPF has censored the naughty bits, to avoid any prospect of vicarious liability as blog host).
- Next, state whether or not D4J is entitled to make defamatory comments on his own blog.
- Finally, for bonus points, please explain why DPF is obliged to publish such “contributions” on his own blog.
September 29th, 2012 at 3:28 pm
D4J’s comments on Whale’s blog were out of place and if DPF wants to retaliate with a life ban then that’s his call. I’ve got no problem with that.
What is hard to take is the hypocritical posturing of those self righteous sanctimonious commenters on this thread who have often been just as offensive in comments on Kiwiblog and elsewhere.
I’ve read some disgusting filth directed at Lucia Maria. Sarah Palin too has been the target of some equally repulsive insults. Just a couple of prominent examples. Hate and derision and ridicule directed at their political opponents, especially those who challenge their cultural dictates, is a common and frequent strategy of the left.
The progressive left are mostly cowardly and stinking hypocrites who are only morally outraged when it suits them, or there is some political advantage in it.
Their complaints on this thread therefore are hollow and hypocritical and sickening in their falsity and inconsistency.
You know who you are.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 3:41 pm
Redbaiter:
I agree with RB on this, except that it can come from across the spectrum, and RB is known to dish out repulsive insults as well, making his comments a bit ironic – but he probably doesn’t know who he is.
So RB starts a comment well and turns it into a farce with his hypocrisy. But that’s classic Redhypocrite.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 3:49 pm
I read it differently. Redbaiter usually insults those he disagrees with (and usually pretty good insults as well) rather than heap filth. Lucia Marie and others of a religious bent get more than insults, they get genuine hatred and vitriol directed at them often enough for me to notice.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 3:59 pm
As usual, PG is right there espousing moral equivalency. His own twisted and surreal version of life.
Hate and derison and ridicule are the main political tools of the left. Its the strategy that gives rise to constant allegations of racism or “homphobia” or “sexism”, all designed to denigrate the subject and remove from the left the obligation of rational and reasoned argument.
Its not across the political spectrum at all.
It is the strategy constantly employed by PG and so many other contemptible and repellent left wing cowards. There is no left winger who has had to suffer the cacaphony of hate that Sarah Palin and her family have had to suffer.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 4:12 pm
Brian – you’re partly right, Redbaiter’s frequenty abusive tirades are different, they are seen more as amusing rather than nasty as others can be. But he is often trying to be abusive, just not very successfully.
RB tries plenty of that too, it’s just that it doesn’t have the desired effect, unless he really is just a spoof.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 4:41 pm
Reddy
Were you to leave “hate, derision & ridicule” out of your average comment all that would be left would be the pseudonym, date, time & a couple of full stops.
But carry on….perhaps your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 4:41 pm
At times I disagree with RB, but I like his approach and stance: he does take a position (a very clear one), instead of meandering or sitting on the fence as others do.
Courage is to be lauded, not derided. Namby-pambism is what got NZ to this point.

It’s manners, innit? Nothing to do with free speech. In the event of a bereavement, you set political differences aside and identify with the recently bereaved. It could be any of us.
But the aforementioned bastards invoke the grand global defence of “free speech”. This reminds me of the adage:
“I do not agree with what you have to say but I’ll defend to the death your your right to sat it as long as you’ll excuse the imminent application of my Glock to your temple while I analyze your every syntax for offense to my God, Race, or family.
There are some things that should just not be said and only the civilized understand this concept.

Over the years on Kiwiblog and WhaleOil, Peter Burns/D4J has said many things, and not all were bad.
Vote:However, this time he was totaly out of place and deserves the ban. We are all guests here – quite disposable if you want to play hardball with the owner
September 29th, 2012 at 5:34 pm
It is public space because it is open to all comers. It is in the nature of a public house. But to restrict comments according to the whims of DPF makes him like some feudal overlord. I am glad he is not pursuing a political career. The first amendment does not apply. Anyhow one day whether this blog is on the nature of a public space or private space will get tested. Strangely DPF’s assertion that it is private place may work against him legally for any defamatory comments but a commenter. I assume it is private space for some purposes but not others.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 6:08 pm

September 29th, 2012 at 6:25 pm
“It is public space because it is open to all comers.”
Nope. You have to register and DPF, if he was so inclined, could refuse posting rights. A public place is by definition, a place where people have a right of access. In this case, it’s a revocable license and you can only post if you agree to abide by the rules.
Vote:September 29th, 2012 at 6:30 pm
But it isn’t open to all comers. If it were, then D4J would still be able to come here.
Of course it doesn’t. DPF isn’t in the US, his domain is a .co.nz one, and he is hosting in NZ.

tvb, I have quite a bit of experience on a range of political blogs and Kiwiblog is the most open and least restrictive one I’ve participated on. Reading Kiwiblog is open to anyone, but who comments is up to DPF, as it should be.
No online forum is totally open to comment on. In fact no media is totally open to comment on, unless you run your own.

Pity in some ways that DPF banned D4J, I was looking forward to seeing how long it would have taken the prick to rack up enough demerit points to be banned again once his current ban had ended. I figured that it would have taken him about ten minutes.
Let’s be frank about D4J, despite his claims of unfair treatment at the hands of the cops he is a man who has had no less than six protection orders issued against him, he has also had his gun license revoked by the police. The man is clearly mad and it is no surprise that he is well known to the cops.

Yes, Slater does invite bad responses with some of the crap he throws. On the other hand, one has to stoop very very low to accept that invitation (if not quite as low as d4j did in this case) and that’s not the sort of thing anyone ought to do.
By all means mock him for his philandering, but not for a family bereavement.

And so I defend David’s right to tell his visitors to leave if they disrupt the party. (Or even if, as in this case, they make so much trouble at someone else’s place that he no longer wants them to visit.)
What do you guys do with gatecrashers you don’t like?

Redbaiter still into the schoolyard stuff. I see a couple of weeks ago you had a go at DFF on your site and generated flood of 11 responses including two from yourself. One can only assume the only reason you come here is to get the overwhelming response to yourself that you so badly crave.

“One can only assume the only reason you come here is to get the overwhelming response to yourself that you so badly crave.”
Well, if such a thing were true it would only be to your benefit seeing as apparently there is nothing on the whole site that interests you more than my comments.

Red what really interests me is that given the high opinion you have of yourself, you seem to have difficulty expressing yourself without abusing others

Thanks John, great blog site. Everyone should read what’s happening to New Zealand at present with this stinking constitutional review.

Remember everyone to sign the petition. All we are asking for is equal rights for all – is that too much?

Yes I can see it interests you, to the exclusion of all other subjects apparently.
Here it is folks- (If you’re still reading this banal rubbish)
Yet one more sick Kiwiblog Redbaiter obsessive.

That’s a bit rough David. Just because I got the lead singer of Dead or Alive wrong- the 80s were a long time ago….

I worked for fathers rights through the eighties, and we made a lot of progress.
Vote:We fought the social drivel that only women could be parents,
and we fought the drivel that men were one in four molesters,
and we were gifted an equality of parenthood we had not had before .

Given that you have worked for fathers rights then you must agree that wankers like D4J have done more damage to your cause than good.

What a disgusting piece of shit!! That guy is an absolute f%#king loser! Even if you dislike someones opinions or personality this is a no go zone and there can be no possible justification for adding insult to injury over someone grief at losing a loved one. I lost my mother when I was 22 and I was devastated; As soon as a read the post I had tears welling in my eyes just imagining how upsetting it would have been to Mr Slater!

To be honest, the male backlash movement has always reminded me of its mirror image, radical lesbian seperatists- imprisoning themselves within their own little coteries, droning on and on and on about their oppression, and lashing out at anyone who violates their particular concept of ideological purity. Tends to remind somewhat of Trotskyites on the far left, and, unfortunately, the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis crowd. Too taken with the echoing sound of their own voices and too little with relevant political activism and realistic goals.

Agreed, this is out of line. On a kind of related topic though…….Let’s say Hone’s mum dies tomorrow? Will you all be gracious in your comments about her life? Will you off condolences?? I suspect someone like Manolo will be pretty harsh….what say the people here?

mikemikemikemike – Maybe the old-fashioned notion of if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything would apply? If I bumped into Hone I would offer my condolences nothing more nothing less…I don’t like his politics but he is still a human being with feelings! That is what is so pathetic about making any kind of attempt at politicising or point scoring over a death; these are people who are loved by their families!

Agree with b1gdaddynz, and that’s probably exactly how I would handle it – I would offer my condolences to Hone if the situation arose, and leave it at that.

It’s been good to watch the gradual rise in the standard around here.
Years ago when I first started commenting on here, dad4justice and Redbaiter were heroes to the majority of commenters here, cheered on by their avid fans pretty much every time they commented about hanging feminazis or socialists from the lamp posts….

Hey, we live in a small country. Even if we do not share particular political worldviews, there is no call for incivility and demagoguery, even if one is debating political opponents. I may be on the opposite side of the political fence from many of your posters when it comes to some issues, although not others- my social liberalism deserts me when it comes to P/crystal methamphetamine and hard drugs, child sexual abuse of any kind anywhere, and violent crime against particularly vulnerable members of society such as the intellectually or otherwise disabled and the elderly (given that my parents are in their late seventies and early eighties themselves). And there’s some overlap between National and Labour over shared concerns such as the importance of free trade. Also, I tend to agree with some of the criticisms of radical Shia and Sunni Islamists, although I also think we need to be careful not to homogenise all New Zealand Muslims, especially.
