The liar in chief?

December 17th, 2013 at 12:00 pm by David Farrar

The Washington Post reports:

It’s time for our annual round-up of the biggest Pinocchios of the year. This was not a presidential election year, so in some ways the subjects that needed to be fact checked were more substantive. In reviewing The Fact Checker’s more than 200 columns in the past year, we found an interesting evolution from statistics about gun violence to claims about President Obama’s health-care law. Our general rule of thumb held: the more complex a subject is, the more tempted politicians are to make misleading claims.

President Obama ended up with three of the most misleading claims of the year. But, despite the urging of some readers, his statement that “I didn’t set a red line” on Syria is not among them. We had looked closely at that claim and had determined that, in context, it was a bungled talking point, so that statement actually earned no rating.

Not a prize the President would want to win – most porkies.

The “Red Line” was a “bungled talking point”, my god, how many excuses do they need to find for this “bumbler-in-chief” ! He needs a permanent name change, to Obumbler.

And yet there are still many major media writers and talking heads that are still defending the Presidents record, see this: http://reason.com/archives/2013/12/16/the-death-of-obamas-noble-lie

Of course both John Kerry and Hilary Clinton must have been strong contenders, Kerry for his very latest gaffe where he seems to not even know that NK has nukes, and Clinton’s bare-faced lies over Benghazi. But, lie for lie, no one in the world can touch Obama when it comes to downright full-on mendacity. In saying this, I guess I must just be a racist, really.

The WaPo is pretty left leaning, aren’t they? It says something when even the media cheerleaders are noting his looseness with the truth.

Obama is just the latest in a long line of US presidents who represent the interests of US corporations. He never really lied, more accurately he never said anything substantial in the first place. Take the ‘red line’ he set in Syria – even if the Syrian regime did use chemical weapons, something no one has categorically proved – Obama’s decisive action could be wagging his finger more vigorously at the Syrian leadership.

The US state is not interested in the welfare of the Syrian people, Syrian oil and gas reserves are of negligible value and it is of relatively minor strategic significance – When the US wanted to use Syrian airspace during it first assault on Iraq under the Bush Snr. regime the US was obliged to stop accusing Syria of the Lockerbie terrorist attack and switched to blaming the Libyan regime, and during the outset of the “war on terror” the US was more than happy to rendition its kidnap victims to Syrian torture chambers. Although, like so much of the past, incidents such as these tend to get confined to the “memory hole”.

Doesn’t really matter either way that he is lying – as the US is finished.

Every pervert, addict, thief and carpet bagger is going to finish it off by feeding on the rotting carcass of what was once the ideal society.

It’s interesting that every time a civilization falls into decadence people probably think, “This time it’s different” – but it never is. Any civilization that indulges in luxury, hedonism, pornographic entertainment; that trivialises marriage let alone makes a mockery of it by legislating for homosexual ‘marriage’; that eschews having children; and that hates religion – is doomed.

Christianity is the West. It is our corner stone, our foundation and our heritage. Anything else is just an attempt to erase reality from our history.

With the US we can see what happens when God and Christianity are given the shove. The vacuum of course must be filled, and the two main contenders have been secular humanism, and increasingly, Islam.

Or as someone else put it:

“…I think we Westerners have lost confidence in the Judeo-Christian traditions and laws that took over 2000 years to slowly and surely civilize the barbaric ways of our ancient ancestors.
Was it all veneer? Cosmetic rouge to conceal our barbaric nature? We’d better get very busy, and very quickly focused on solving this potentially fatal identity crisis. ………….”

But Barry would rather make misleading comments about ‘complex matters’ like Obamacare – as if life itself depended upon it.

Barrycare doesn’t understand nor care for ‘quality of life’ – so long as your blood is pumpin in his hood at someone elses expence!

    Fuck that.

Yoza, although you are right that all major political leaders of all stripes will shade the truth, Obama is exceptional in both the brazen way he lies and in his brazen attempts to weasel out of it. He drew “a red line in the sand” and then tried to say that it wasn’t “his” red line, it was the red line that everyone was asking for.

Then there’s “If you like you policy, you can keep your policy, period”. Subsequent emails that have been released have shown that for some time while still making this unequivocal statement (like the entire 2012 election campaign) Obama and his whole team knew that this simply untrue. Even allowing for “shading” of the truth, this isn’t close to “He never really lied”, face it, he did, continuously, blatantly, outright barefaced dishonestly, lied to his back teeth. He makes Len Brown look honest.

And who does really care about the Syrian people, not even the various Syrian governments/movements appear to do that. The Russians, hell no; the Saudi’s, I don’t think so; the Iranians, nope; the USA, probably not; I’d say except for the purposes of posturing to attempt to make “xxxxxx” look bad (insert your xxxxx of choice) nobody much does.

@Harriet, using the US as an example of a society that has forsaken religion seems to me a bit counter-intuitive. They’re the most religious of all the major western countries.

Vast amounts of gold are not moved around the world, the majority of the traded gold is just moved from one vault to another in this installation in Manhattan.
