Most Christians, including those who could be called conservative, vote National or Labour. The idea that they can all be mobilized to vote for one party is profoundly silly, though it’s a silliness that seems pervasive amongst the deeply ignorant anti-Christian bigots on KB. Even amongst conservative Evangelical voters, there is a wide range of political views from Right to Left on economic issues, so no one party can ever count on gaining anything near a serious majority of that voting block.

Combine this with the fact that the CP is not a Christian party, then any analysis of the Conservatives which indulges in the idea that they are somehow a reflection of Christian voting patterns is about as useful as tits on a bull. Perhaps less so.

National needs coalition partners and it needs more than one, so it is in National’s best interests, both for this election and the future, to cultivate both ACT and the CP.

This will not be a problem for National as some are claiming. Silly statements from ACT have never hurt National itself, and right now the CP is looking healthier than ACT is.

I hope to see both ACT and the Conservatives in Parliament and in coalition with National.

For proof of the maxim that ‘A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on’, look no further than the Tuam 800 dead babies story. Courtesy of a modern media that seems more interested in titillating readers with gorno than giving us cool facts, and thanks to a Twittermob constantly on the hunt for things it might feel ostentatiously outraged by, the story about babies being dumped in an old, out-of-use septic tank by nuns at a home for ‘fallen women’ in Tuam in Galway made waves in every corner of the globe. Then, a few days later, having finally strapped its boots on, the truth – or at least a more sober analysis of what might have really happened in Tuam – staggered on to the stage. And it was a very different story to the fact-lite, fury-heavy tale that had already gone round the world.

On almost every level, the news reports in respectable media outlets around the world were plain wrong. Most importantly, the constantly repeated line about the bodies of 800 babies having been found was pure mythmaking. The bodies of 800 babies had not been found, in the septic tank or anywhere else. Rather, Corless had speculated in her research that the 796 children who died at the home had been buried in unmarked plots (common practice for illegitimate children in Ireland in the early to mid-twentieth century) and that some might have been put in the tank in which two boys in 1975 saw human remains.

The septic tank on the grounds of the former home have not been excavated. No babies have been ‘found in a septic tank’, as the Washington Post, Guardian and others claimed. The claim that the babies were ‘dumped’ into some kind of sewage system is wrong, too. Corless says the nuns ‘made a crypt out of the old septic tank’. She now says her research has been ‘widely misrepresented’ and that she ‘never used the word “dumped”’ to describe the possible placing of some dead children into a makeshift crypt (‘possible’ being the operative word).

More to the point, it’s actually not possible that all 800 dead babies are in this tank-cum-crypt, as pretty much every media outlet has claimed. Mainly because, as the Irish Times reports, the septic tank was still in use up to 1937, 12 years after the home opened, during which time 204 of the 796 deaths occurred – and ‘it seems impossible’, the paper says, ‘that more than 200 bodies could have been put in a working sewage tank’. Also, the Irish Times spoke to one of the men who in 1975, when he was 10 years old, disturbed the former septic tank and saw skeletal remains, and he says now that ‘there was no way there were 800 skeletons down that hole. Nothing like that number.’ He says there were ‘about 20’. Maybe his memory is fuzzy, but so far he is the only eyewitness we know of to this alleged pit of 800 dead babies in a tank in Tuam.

So the widely made claim that the bodies of 800 babies had been found in Tuam is not true; no excavation has taken place. The claim that the babies were ‘dumped’ in a tank is not true, according to Corless herself. And the notion that the babies were hurled in with sewage is not correct – apparently the tank had been turned into a crypt. Yet none of these recent revelations, or Corless’s public angst at the widespread warping of her findings, has put a stop to the Heart of Darkness-style coverage of Tuam’s evil, mysterious tank.

We know full well he doesn’t give a shit .Otherwise his outrage would be vented on most jurisdictions that ran total institutions in the past.Most of which were dreadful places .

Par for the course – the animals running the shop were legally compelled to obtain death certificates but having been born out of wedlock there was no baptism and no christian burial so dead children were routinely tossed into what we’d call an offal pit.

Griff, we know nothing of the sort.
We know that around 800 children died at the home over a period of many years at a time when life expectancy was very low. We don’t know how many are buried on the grounds of the home. Perhaps a disused tank was used as a crypt – we don’t know that either; or how many bodies might be inside. The only person to have ever looked inside, says maybe 20.

I don’t see what the kerfuffle is about. As the historian explained, many children died in those days of many different diseases: tuberculosis, convulsions, measles, whooping cough, influenza, bronchitis and meningitis, among other illnesses.

What do you think would have been done with the bodies? Cremation? The Church did not believe in cremation at that time. SO, of course they were buried. What is so strange about that?

The grave site was discovered in 1975 by a couple of young boys before then there was no evidence of the burials and even after the graves were marked and commented by locals not the church.
The deaths were recorded the mass grave site was not.

Rome was well known for its infanticide, so it is hardly unexpected that the Church of Rome would behave in the same way.

My maternal grandmother was Irish Catholic, her grandmother born here of Irish stock, her grandfather from Galway. My grandmother did not raise my mother (an only child) to be Catholic, my grandmothers’ sister did not raise her only son as Catholic either. My grandmother had a brother interred as an epileptic imbecile due I think to problems at birth, who I found in an unmarked grave in Nelson (although consecrated) where there had been a sanatorium, he died of pneumonia, the records also stated family unknown. Awful times for everyone, not just Catholics (although they were) and not just in Ireland. My grandmother hated the nuns of the convent.

Atheists generally have sufficient love & compassion not to throw their teenage daughters onto the street or into a workhouse laundry because they happen to get pregnant. Only those semi advanced societies where Skyfairies set morality & rules have a need for baby factories & the like. 🙂

Efforts to shut down discussion of possible radical Islamic activities at the Christchurch mosque continue.

In today’s Christchurch Press a letter writer takes the newspaper to task for its initial report last Thursday responding to overseas statements that two Australians killed in Yemen had been radicalised at the Christchurch mosque.

The Christchurch Press followed this with an editorial on Saturday virtually denying the pair could have been radicalised at the mosque.

The letter today in the newspaper today praises the editorial but purports to rubbish the initial report on THursday.

The fact is that initial report on Thursday was a gutless PR slab of words defending the mosque and almost ridiculing the claim by the Australians that the pair killed by Yemen drones were radicalised at the Christchurch mosque.

The multiculturalists and Islamicists are out to ban any New Zealand non-Muslim questioning of Islamic activities.

It is a disgrace that the Fairfax-owned Christchurch Press appears to be going along with this. Fairfax should resite it in Mecca.

Peru has approved the highly controversial expansion of the Camisea gas project onto the land of uncontacted Amazon tribes – despite international outrage, the resignation of three ministers, and condemnation by the United Nations and international human rights organizations.

Peru’s Ministry of Culture, tasked with protecting the country’s indigenous population, has approved plans by oil and gas giants Pluspetrol (Argentina), Hunt Oil (US) and Repsol (Spain) to detonate thousands of explosive charges, drill exploratory wells and allow hundreds of workers to flood into the Nahua-Nanti Reserve, located just 100km from Machu Picchu.

The expansion could decimate the uncontacted tribes living in the reserve, as any contact between gas workers and the Indians is likely to result in the spread of diseases or epidemics to which the Indians lack immunity.

When oil giant Shell first started explorations in the area, it led to the death of nearly half the Nahua tribe. One Nahua man recounted, ‘Many, many people died. People dying everywhere, like fish after a stream has been poisoned. People left to rot along stream banks, in the woods, in their houses. That terrible illness!’

Voting not to hold a bi-election on expediency just tells the average Joe citizen that it is business as usual.

The electorate through a Bi -Election in Epson needs the opportunity to voice their anger at their elected leaders and elect a candidate in Epson free of all the ACT balderdash.

It will focus and address all the issues that have come out of the Banks court case that will be lost forever in a General Election

And according to classic tennis theory – both are at an age where grand slam wins become less frequent no matter what your name is or what surface you play on. ‘When the UPS man delivered a package today, your wife greeted him at the door, in a sheer black nightie.’

‘WHAT???’ the guy asks incredulously.

‘THEN what happened?’

‘Well, then the UPS man came into the house, and lifted up her nightie, and began petting her all over,’ reported
the parrot.

‘NO!’ he exclaims, ‘and she let him.?’ ‘Yes. Then he continued taking off the nightie, got down
on his knees, and began to kiss her all over.’

Then the frantic guy demands, ‘THEN WHAT HAPPENED.?’

DUNNO?!? I got a hard-on, and fell off my perch.!’

Sadly an honest shop keeper going about his business was murdered in Henderson this morning, the police are interviewing two boys aged 12 and 13. So far that is all we know.

However, given the usual form in matters like this I am prepared to wager that the boys being interviewed are;

1. Gang Prospects.
2. Maori.

Now, while all those who rush to down tick me or call me racist are perfectly entitled to do so I hope that you come back when I am proved right and apologise.

‘I am a -political when it comes to the law. I do not belong to any political party. I am by the way a long term Labour Party supporter who helped Trevor Mallard in his first campaign in Hutt South.

Hmm, so where was Mr. McCready when Labour resolutely refused to sack Taito Philip Field while he was before the court for corruption (prior to his subsequent conviction)?

Where was he when Labour and NZ First breached electoral law on multiple occasions?

How can he say on the one hand he is “apolitical” yet in the same breath confess he is a long time Labour supporter?? It sounds like he is cut from the same cloth as the anti-~~corruption~~National campaigner, Penny Bright. 🙂

He shook himself back to his senses. “No time for that; you’re carrying on like some progressive homo scum”.

He poised, knowing what awaited him Him but also knowing that He would take a lot more of them with Him. But before He could leap to His feet for the final defiant charge to glory, a familiar voice interrupted Him.
