One Liu donation confirmed

June 24th, 2014 at 3:43 pm by David Farrar

The Herald reports:

A donation from to a rowing club linked to a former Labour Cabinet minister has been confirmed.

Duncan Barr, the president of the Hawke’s Bay Rowing Club, said today the millionaire businessman gave $2000 in 2007, which backs up a signed statement from Liu.

Labour have been basically suggesting Liu is mistaken or a liar. They should be very worried that this minor donation has been confirmed, because if he is correct on a $2,000 donation, it is unlikely he’s got around a $100,000 donation.

Mr Barr said the club purchased new rowing blades and said Liu was introduced to the club by , the then Minister for Internal Affairs, whose daughter was a club member.

They were obviously quite close.

Remember how Labour turned on Owen Glenn – suggesting he was old and confused …. I hope their paper trail is as good as the guy who’s claiming he made a donation…..

Death by a 1000 cuts! When Labour are lawyering up you know this is going to get a whole new shade of ugly for them. In Question Time today it was like shooting fish in a barrel for Key. One wonders who in the Labour caucus will throw in the towel and call off the fight or will they just allow Cunliffe’s bloodied carcass to get pummeled all the way to September 20.

Surely if one party (Liu) claims to have donated to another (Labour), and the latter party is required to report such a donation but ostensibly hasn’t, some independent third party should investigate?

What am I missing here? Who cares what the PM or anyone else knows? Get an independent ruling. Innocent until proven guilty, but the ball is in Labour’s court.

I love the way that Labour supporters are keeping this in the media by demanding the Liu fronts up with evidence, and by trying to involve Key. The normal response when you’ve had a train wreck of a week AND it was all self inflicted would be to lay low and hope that the public move on to something else. Instead they just want to re-litigate everything and, inevitably, it reminds voters just how hopeless Labour are, how corrupt they were, and how inept they are managing their way out of a crisis.

What are they thinking? I don’t think anyone can explain that at this stage. But it doesn’t stop us enjoying it.

It doesn’t. but when you are desperate to distract the electorate and you have a couple of lackies ready to print your every insinuation, they go with it, knowing that at least 50% of the electorate have an IQ average and below, who are too stupid to think there is no link whatsoever.

Where is there any proof that any of what Liu has claimed is true? The fact that he produces a receipt for another auction I think actually goes a long way to supporting the fact he has nothing. If he did he would have fronted up with the statements, receipt the works and socked it to Labour well and truly by now.

I think the police need to be bought in and do a thorough investigation of Mr Liu’s transactions – may be someone should lay a complaint that this immigrant appears to have been unfairly ripped of by some unscrupulous politicians – that will give them a good excuse to noisy round the wife bashers business.

He’s doing a Dotcom – and hoping if he can escape conviction by playing games with our pollies.

FFS you ignoramus. I give money to the Salvation Army, but I don’t even believe in God, however going by your rational, my donation must be to him. Just because someone happens to be interested in the club you donate to, doesn’t mean that money was GIVEN to them or even on behalf of them. Now you’re just starting to sound plain stupid.

It disproves Barker’s claim that he barely knew the guy. We’ve pretty much known this since we found our that Barker flew all the way across China to visit Liu’s cement factory, but it was always possible that Barker was telling the truth when he claimed that he’d always wanted to visit a cement factory and Liu’s was handy.

So despite Barker hardly knowing Liu, Liu managed to donate money to Barker’s daughter’s club in a town right across NZ.

Bullshit – unless you can tie Barker into it by showing evidence that he asked Liu to make that donation, then you’re drawing a very long bow.

Liu was no doubt trying to form bonds with anyone and everyone with some sort of political influence. He no doubt made the donation because he wanted to impress Barker BUT unless you can prove Barker asked him to, you cannot claim that there is anything untoward. He may have barely known him and simply mentioned his sporting interest in passing polite conversation.

We are dealing with a cunning and violent man here, who is desperate for some reason to live in New Zealand, and instead of looking at him, and what he is up to – you’re allowing him to distract the issue just to play ‘who’s the baddest polly’ and so Liu wins, and gets away with corruption – no wonder the country is full of similar scumbags. I don’t know why we even bother with an immigration policy – we should just put eftpos machines at the entry point – pay us enough, all welcome.

You are probably right there. But Mr Liu will have records of the transaction that can show he paid that money. Even if he was carrying cash, he will be able to show where and when that cash was withdrawn from his account, unless he bought that much cash into the country, in which case, there will be a record of that, and if he earned it whilst here, there will also be records of that. No one can have that much cash, and not be able to account for it, unless of course they are doing something illegal.

Barker is still involved in politics being an elected councillor over in Hawkes Bay.

It is important for an enquiry into all this secret donating to be made and frankly Barker has a lot to explain and should resign from his position.
If this was exposed a year ago he may not have stood in the election and if voters knew about these dealings he may never have been elected.
    He is not trustworthy.

You have no idea Judith. Ever seen what goes on down the local Pubs, Cosy/Workingmans Clubs?, Gentlemens Clubs?
Once that CASH is out of the Tax system it has black market status. It never ever goes back into the Bank. It does not mean they are crooks (other than not paying Tax) it just means mates have lots of family BBQs.(disguised as drinking beer and telling jokes)
Often there will be a gift picked up at a later date.
This goes on in a small scale, and it goes on in a big scale. What is really in those doggie bags when leaving the top dining places and weekend resorts?

You query the relevance of the donation to the Hawkes Bay Rowing Club…it goes towards corroborating what Liu has said in his written statement..(yet you have made it clear in a previous thread on this subject that this is just an unsupported allegation).

You say that it is purely a case of one person’s word against the word of another and that our Courts don’t entertain such a notion in deciding guilt or innocence.

I have read your posts over the last year or two and know that you have knowledge in these matters. How many historical sexual violation cases are heard purely on the basis of what ‘she says against what he says’? I can give you a recent example of a trial run on “recovered memory” of an allegation some 30 years earlier, with absolutely no corroboration what-so-ever.

You and I are of similar age (from your previous posts) and you will well recall a time when it was a requirement of a trial judge to warn the jury that it was dangerous to convict on uncorroborated evidence.
That warning requirement was removed by law.

Mr Cunliffe says the Labour Party has repeatedly challenged Mr Liu to provide evidence to support his claims, and so far he’s failed to do just that.
“So if he does have evidence now is the time for him to put it on the table, if not an apology would be much appreciated.”

In total ignorance of, or in disregard for Asian sense of “face”, Labour has very publicly called Liu a wife beater – right or wrong – while they gunned for Minister Maurice Williamson and now they are demanding Donghua Liu provide evidence of his donation or apologise. They may as well have slapped him in the face – twice.

This may have led Liu to now regard Labour with a certain measure of unhappiness.

The $2,000 to Hawke’s Bay Rowing Club, made because former Labour Government cabinet minister Rick Barker’s daughter rowed at the club, is now confirmed, so people – especially Labour – expect there may actually be more.

Perhaps it is a little way off yet. Month, two months. Whether Jared Savage reveals more evidence, Cameron Slater helps them out, Prime minister Key does, or even Donghua Liu, it may be timed just right to destroy Labour.
    About September 15, I would guess :-)
