Chameleon Cunliffe.On Campbell Live last night, Cameleon said if he won the post of Labour Party Leader, he would make Grant “whats a party vote” Robertson, his deputy, and fire David “nosey” Parker.Not long after on Maori TV, he said if he won the post of Labour Party Leader,he would install a Maori as his deputy.So in a matter of about sixty minutes, he had dumped Parker and Robertson,and installed a Maori as his deputy.Stand by in case ,he changes his mind again,and again ,and again.

Outgoing Labour leader David Cunliffe has offered leadership rival Grant Robertson the job of deputy leader.

When Labour is this fucking screwed up, they should be LEFT to their own devices for a while. 🙂
As long as they don’t do private party business on paid Opposition time, as they have done for the past three years …

But therein lies a very sound argument for reducing the number of MPs back to about a hundred.
There is little point paying Labour as an Opposition when they spend almost all of the term fucking around with internal private party re-organisation.

Yes I saw the Maori TV interview with Cunliffe; he was basically saying Maori would get whatever post they they wanted in a government led by him. What a desperate man he looked.

Mihi Forbes clearly loathed him.

Cunliffe even praised the most ineffective MP in the House, Nanaia Mahuta, she’s the best thing since sliced bread apparently, ha ha haha

Frankly it’s nice of them to publish the ad in English. Let’s face it, any Chinese speaker is going to already speak English reasonably well, unless they’re a granny. They’d be better off just writing it in Chinese and putting it in one of those Chinese newspapers.

@ Inthisdress – David Shearer is sensibly in New York, accompanying Murray McCully to the United Nations General Assembly in a show of unity. Doubtless he will meet with Helen Clark, and will probably return to New Zealand with instructions from the real leader of the Labour Party 😉

In the meantime, you can be sure that Shearer and McCully will have had some interesting conversations over a late-night drink or two; McCully will revel in the opportunity to poke his oar in to Labour’s disunity and dysfunction…

Obama has achieved none of the things he promised his voters. He is, by a considerable margin, a bigger war monger than Bush. He has re-started the Iraq war and even re-kindled the Cold War with Russia. This against a background of military actions too long to list here.

So why do you support him ? Is it to show everyone you are not “racist” ?

That’s because Prime Minister John Key has signed deals with ACT and United Future, giving them plum jobs which come with plum benefits.
Mr Seymour’s been given the role of undersecretary for education. It means he gets a bit more say in two portfolios, and a lot more cash.
Because ACT failed to get its actual leader Jamie Whyte into Parliament, Mr Seymour gets Parliament’s perks – including $100,000 plus party, member and other funding.
Add that to Mr Seymour’s allowance just for being an MP, and his undersecretary salary – which is nearly $30,000 more than your average back bencher – and he’s pulling $585,028 a year plus extra staff.

Add that to Mr Seymour’s allowance just for being an MP, and his undersecretary salary – which is nearly $30,000 more than your average back bencher – and he’s pulling $585,028 a year plus extra staff.

How much of that is money that would otherwise go to some unknown Nat MP from the depths of their list, given the same job?

Reserve Bank sells $521m to lower dollar

The Reserve bank should not be fiddling with the exchange rate. They did it in South Africa in the 70s and that place is now a banana republic in terms of currency. Exporters are suffering, yes, but watch the knock on affect of oil price increases affect every other aspect of the economy. A strong dollar is seldom a sign of a weak economy. (I am no economist – others that have a better handle on this should enlighten us on where this may be going and how much pain we may experience because of this. )

Who cares? Does every little thing need to be nitpicked apart and moaned about?

ACT worked well with National in the past, and it’s in National’s best interest to continue doing things that work. It also means that they have other reasonable voices involved in portfolios, and that National’s isn’t the only one present. The Greens, Labour and NZ First are hardly going to be rational voices of support. It’ll be sniping with agendas from them.

In case you missed it, the PM said all along that he would prefer to work with ACT and UF as part of a 2014-2017 Government. And (in case you missed it again) the ACT candidate was elected in Epsom and the UF candidate was elected in Ohariu. So the PM has welcomed them both aboard and they have been appointed to appropriate roles.

On merit.

Also to recall that in 2008 the US was facing its most serious economic crises since the 1930s recession. A crises a consequence or factors such as the irresponsible deregulation of the financial and lending markets that e.g insanely allowing first time house owners and other lenders to borrow with negative equity .

Added to this the Bush administration attempting to pay for the Iraqi war by cutting taxes and pure deficit spending . Put it simply trying to pay with it by a Visa card.

By the time of Obama’s inauguration the US was stony broke almost destitute. Almost the laughing stock of the world .Thus recovery has been long, slow and hard but the country is beginning to reap the benefits . Recall also how very long it took the US to climb out of the 1930s depression .

As with the current Iraq its a case of of damned if you do and damned if you don’t with the US Right baying for the moon with big time “boots on the ground “intervention.

Things in the reserve banks favour – the yanks are finally turning of the wall street welfare. that means they will put interest rates up too. so the US will strengthen. maybe we wont see it back over 80 for a while!?

Flipper, I do not agree.

NZ needs a strong, viable alternative to the current government if only to keep the current lot on the straight and narrow.

If Labour continue that slide the only alternative when (and they will) voters get pissed off or the current lot get far too arrogant for their own good will be the totally dishonest Reds.

NZ will not survive a term of a group of un-rehabilitated communists and out-and-out nutters without a skerrick of financial experience or know how.

Despite the undoubted pleasure the demise of Labour (particularly the current Labour line-up) brings for the sake of NZ we must hope for resurrection.

It will probably require divine intervention. 😉

Yes TV3 is ata again, aznd the anti ACT narrative is by that chyild, Tova O’Brien.

So Seymour gets a nice package, and ACT gets support beyond that available to an ordinary MP, were he/she to be elected as an independent. Comparisons with other parties’ MPs are not valid, because they suck on the party tit. And it is no different for someone like Dunne, or Flavell/Fox from Maori.

If there is a valid comparison, look at the red melons. Norman and Turei polled 11,323 electorate votes between them. Add Genter, who stood in Epsom, and the three of them totalled 13,542.

Seymour? He polled 13,921 electorate votes.

In short the TV3 (et al) argument over extra $s is simply pathetic.

If Labour now want to elect to leader a man who last time had less appeal than the man who has just stood down for his utter failure – let them. The harder the lesson the better it may be learned. 🙂

I would have thought that there would be some good talent in Nationals list. Some people from that list may well resent being leapfrogged over by David Seymour.

Your quote implies that if they had someone from National doing the job it would cost the taxpayer only $30,000 more rather than the long list of perks that David Seymour is going to get.

Flipper – your comments relate to electorate vote numbers. As almost everyone has said, over and over, it’s the party votes that count!
It feels kind of wrong that Dunne and Seymour hold such sway with so little of NZ support and yet other parties (Conservative, for example) with many more votes get nada.

Yes, we do need a strong alternative governing party in waiting. But it is all rather more complicated than that, witness the election just completed.

My first electoral involvement, in a professional sense, was in the 1966 General Election. No need to describe the roller coaster that the nation has endured since. But in my view, this past election was the only one in which the media demonstrated overt bias, and sought to aid various opposition groups to defeat J Key’s administration. Excel’s 1975 Citizens for Rowling was a mouse that squeaked, in comparison. The voting public is far more sophisticated in 2014 than the gaggle of left wing scribblers imagine – in their wildest dreams.

It is too early to make a judgement call on J Key’s response to the result. But to me he is making all the right noises, and pressing all the important buttons. By this time next year we will have an indication of 2017.

In the meantime, we should dismiss out of hand the crap being editorialised by the pommie-run Dominion Post, the discredited NZ Herald, and the back-room producer-driven “news” presenters on TVs 1 and 2, and red radio. They cannot understand what the voters appreciate: “It is the economy. Stupid.” Given fair winds and following seas, and we will advance through, and past 2017. 🙂

Yeah, better of two evils for me as I cannot stand Mike Hoskings.
He may have been better than he is on Seven Sharp but I wouldn’t know. I don’t watch Campbell Live either though.

I think Mike Hoskings is a creep. He constantly turns the conversation to himself. He seem to think that the show is about him and how clever and funny he is.

We are very hard done by in NZ. It would be great to have a show that focuses on current events. Not human interest/magazine style shows. I am guessing the magazine style shows are easier and cheaper to produce? We would also struggle for the quality of journalists it would require.

TV1 was worse. I predominantly watched TV3 and besides tabloid like badgering reporters, like Tova O’Brien and Rebecca Wright, it was pretty well done. Their panels made good calls.

What made TV1 worse was Corin Dann. There was one post-election bit where he was in the National ballroom, and he had two small Chinese girls there lined up. He just knelt down and said “This is National’s grassroots.” Then repeated it. The camera cut him off. Racist and biased at the same time.

When I feel like sneering at a non-native speaker’s command of English, I usually remember how little I know of their language and feel much more modest.

Of course, in NZ English is an official and the predominant language whereas Chinese is not, but it’s obvious from the advertisement that this is a Chinese-owned business and knowledge of both languages would be an asset. So, how good is your Chinese?

Labour are going to look at where they went wrong in this election. First of all the bribes weren’t good enough. Why they had three terms up to 2008 was Working for Families’ in one election and Interest Free Student Loans in another. Buying back a train set did not wash, in the 2008 election. If they want to bribe a large section of the voting public they should look at raising NZ Superannuation by say 5% or not taxing it in the first place. They should ask themselves how could the National Party annihilate them without having to bribe the electorate. They won’t have an answer for this and it will just be business as usual.

Re Winston Peters. The issue with Peters is his inability to work successfully as a cabinet minister. He was kicked out by Bolger in 1991 when a minister because of his inability to be a team player. He was in 1998 sacked again from cabinet by Shipley. Also when he was Treasurer in the NZF-National coalition he had to rely on Birch is save his hide because he didn’t grasp the role properly.

Key at times hinted that he might be able to work with Winston –all Winston had to do was keep quiet or say something non committal like ” there could be possibilities” in reply but he went the other way and made out he would go with the left. That is what I meant by the “massive political misjudgement”.

Yes he increased the number of MPs but they will be ineffective in Parliament. He could have easily been in a similar position to ACT/ Dunne & the Maori Party if he had played the game right. He did not and I think he now realises he made an error.

Labour clearly didn’t have a good campaign strategy and didn’t quite know who they were trying to target. The Greens have a solid voting base who are easy to reach in a campaign but are doomed to permanent opposition currently. As for National in the last week Dotcom was a huge help in getting the vote out. No need for marketing by the Nats.

The story of alleged Moore, Oklahoma murderer Alton Nolen, who reportedly beheaded a co-worker, is fading from the headlines. Barring further developments, I don’t expect it to be a news topic on any of the Big Three networks’ morning or evening news shows tomorrow.

That’s because it has already disappeared from prominence at the Associated Press. At 10:20 this morning, the latest story on Nolen had already dropped to Number 6 on the AP’s top list of U.S. stories. By 5:30 p.m., it was gone. The top story at 5:30 was oh so predictably about Ferguson, Missouri. The “big news”: a police officer was shot in the arm, and “was treated and released from a hospital.”

The wire service’s latest story, about how Nolen, who has regained consciousness after being shot by another co-worker who fortunately was armed, has been interviewed by police, had a Saturday evening time stamp.

It seems to be a key lesson emerging from the last month about identifying, early, suitable successors for leadership and grooming them, rather than suppressing and maligning them.

Labour now have the issue that they have insufficient depth in their caucus to easily replace a failed leader.

The Maori Party have lost much of their attraction with the departure of Pita and Tariana, with Flavell left to struggle on his own (or possibly +1), against a Labour bloc of Maori seats and may see the Maori Party leave Parliament altogether in 2017.

ACT tried to run with political novice Jamie Whyte as leader and got less votes than the Legalise Cannabis party, and put the other political novice into Epsom.

The Greens don’t really have leadership issues as they run as more of a friendly cooperative without the burden of maintaining coherent and realistic policy, and haven’t had time in the Executive to get any real experience.

The exceptions to this are National, who less than a fortnight after the election are already beginning to publicly socialise Paula Bennett as the next Leader. NZ First also made the late concession to let Ron Mark back onto the list, with him being the likely successor once Winston retires (or is carried out in a box).

Our justice system is institutionalised misandry. I have been spared its worst abuses personally, but I have seen how it works first hand for many others and heard of the experiences of those who have been subject to it.

The trouble is no one believes it until it happens to them. If a women wants to use the law against you in NZ you are fucked and innocence is no protection. Actually being innocent will work against you as it shows; no insight into your offending, no remorse, no acceptance of what you did was wrong and a high probability of re-offending.

That is if it even gets to Court. A women can have you thrown out of your home and onto to street by the police at any time with a Police Safety Order. Just call the cops and tell a story. (It helps A LOT if she is a bit of a hottie)

Women plan these things and men react and are carried along by events. Invariably women plan it so they appear as a victim / long suffering unappreciated wife. They get the sympathy and the house.

Women are manipulative. If he wants to run off with some women, he will just do it and payout what is required to his wife. If she wants to run off with some guy, she will portray herself as a victim of [magic word] “abuse” and demand the kids and house, to avoid looking like a slut.

First step is to lie and perjure yourself to get a Protection Order, which is marriage breakup 101 for women. And for all you gape jawed feminist idiots out there… I know not all women are like that. I am generalising, which means I am generally right.
