This is just insane

I am sure by now everyone knows the story of how the Police said they can not investigate a theft from a dairy, despite the offender being identified and caught on camera.

Then Helen Clark, at her absolute worst, refused to take any responsibility for the lack of resources for the Police, and actually said that people complaining about lack of police resources were the problem:

“What concerns me is that ACT has been so keen to publish those letters that in effect they act as an incentive to commit crime if the impression is around that people can be caught on a video surveillance camera and never apprehended.”

Hello!!!! That impression happens because it is true Prime Minister. I am staggered the PM thinks telling the truth is a bad thing. In her warped thinking the criminals wouldn’t know they are getting away with crimes, if no-one revealed that in fact they were.

But now in the latest bizarre twist, the SST managed to track down the suspected shoplifter in just 30 minutes. And get this – the mother complained to the Police saying the SST were harassing her son, and the Police immediately contacted the SST to investigate.

So stealing from a shop is not a police priority, but an (alleged) shoplifter’s mother complaining that a reporter talked to her son is a priority?

As Labour keep declaring there are no problems with Police resources, consider this Papakura police station alone has 265 unassigned files, including assaults, large-scale thefts and fraud and “We know that for many of those unassigned files that the offender could be located, but we haven’t got time to investigate them all.”

Hawkins must go. It is as simple as that. He has been unable to deliver the resources the Police need, despite a $7 billion surplus and enough funds to spend $239 million on TWOA.
