The NZ Herald has reprinted David Lange’s valedictory speech in Parliament. I had been working there only a month when he delivered it in August 1996, and I can still recall much of it word for word today. It was that good.
What was especially nice about it, was that it was basically free of all the bitterness which had characterised him from 1989 to 1996 after he resigned as PM.
Hmmn, just realised in reading the NZ Herald article they only have the first portion of his speech. Hopefully they will stick up the full version as the best bits are not there.
UPDATE: The full version has been posted in the comments section. Go read.
