Winston on the US

Well that didn’t take long.

On 20 October 2005 Winston said he wanted to put NZ’s relationship with the US “on a much more harmonious and positive level”.

Yesterday he departs from his prepared speech to whine New Zealand did not get enough credit from the US for its role in the Pacific.

Well that didn’t take long. I mean beating up on the US is the oldest cheapest trick in foreign affairs. Everyone does it from Chavez down. And considering how much legitimate stuff there is to criticise the US on, he chooses to whine that we didn’t get a nice xmas card from the US thanking us for our pacific work. Good God.

And equally bizarrely Peters says a question is racist because it asked him whether being a Maori Foreign Affairs Minister might help him dealing with Pacific countries. Peters himself has referred to being a Maori Minister of Foreign Affairs.
