The NZ Herald editorial is on Iran. Some of what they say is common sense, but I disagree strongly with this statement:
However, if one thing is certain in this sorry mess it is that the United States must resist the urge to act unilaterally.
That is not the one certain thing. The one certain thing is that Iran must not gain possession of nuclear weapons. I’m all for diplomacy and multi-lateral action up until that point, but when that line looks like it is about to be crossed, then some-one has to stop it – even if Russia doesn’t agree. If getting Russia to agree to things is the mark of legitimacy, then there would still be a eastern european empire.
As for why Iran must not be allowed to gain nuclear weapons, well these cartoons (Hat Tip: Ian Wishart) sum it all up.
