Am somewhat annoyed at TVNZ after One News last night. They had a segment on Ahmed Zaoui, and as part of that said:
These blogs say it all. “he should have been turned around at the border, his family will now arrive and all will go on a benefit and live in a state house”
With this statement credited to Kiwiblog website, and a photo of my blog showing my nickname and the blogname clearly.
Now I never made such a statement of course. That comment was made in the comments section by a GD. Attributing that comment to myself and Kiwiblog without making clear it was a comment, is the equivalent of TVNZ reciting a letter to the editor and making it seem like it was the editorial position of the newspaper which published it.
The same thing was done to Russell Brown with his Hard News site. I suspect he is even more upset than me!
The TVNZ text version of their story is here. If you click on the video link under Headlines to the right on “Zaoui’s first day of freedom” you’ll see the footage.
So a plea to media – please always be careful in distinguishing between posts made by myself, and comments made to those posts by others. They are as I said comparable to an editorial and a letter to the editor.
