COMPLAINT TIME……

1. WAITAKERE TRUST: The wife and I went for a drink at the Lincoln Green on Thursday night, the barman after putting my drinks on the bar, after sniffing while pouring, took my money towards the till. A huge sniff and wiping his big nose with his hand and put my money in the till and brought me my change. GROSS LINCOLN GREEN.

2. WAITAKERE TRUST: Went on Friday to buy a cheap bottle of Vodka for my weekend Bloody Mary’s. Only buy a bottle about every 5-6 weeks. Well bugger me it was $25!!! Always been $20!!!! So on asking why, I was told it was the GST increase. I asked how much that was and I was told it went up 15%… So I said to him… “I’m not having a go at you but, GST went up 2.5% to 15% your vodka has gone up 25%!!!! SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU WAITAKERE TRUST!!!

Anyone else concerned about the strife our once beautiful cuntry is in due to judges deciding that words don’t mean what they say?

Eg the foreshore and seabed debacle and the Hobbit near disaster.

How do we tell these benched-bastards and bitches that if they want to re-work NZ they have to get an electoral mandate to do so?

Kaya and Alex – there are five players over there who have been trieed before and not been up to international standard. One of them Toeava has been an embarrassment for about 5 seasons while Donald was obvious 12 months ago. The other three are Gear, Messem and Braid.

Yet we had Latimer, Guilford, Ranger, Cruden and Slade carried in squads without ever being given a fair shot or in Guilfords case proving he was at least the equal of Rokocoko but left behind.

There is also the issue of taking injured players, Sivivatu and Hore plus Carter not fit enough to play 80 minutes.

It is all so 2007.

I feel for Donald. He can only do the best that he can with what he has and I have every confidence that he does so. Unfortunately, the best that he has falls short of the mark. I do not feel for the people who put him in that position when nothing he has done at this level justifies the selection, a fact which is proven time and time again. ITM rugby against Otago, Manawatu and other also rans is one thing. Test rugby against an increasingly esciting and determined backline is another. Why give them the ball — not just once — three times! I also feel for the players left behind. Last year, Colin Slade was taken out of rugby so that he could be with the squad and dropped from the end of year tour because he did not have current form. Much the same happened to Cruden this year. There seems to be an inconsistency here. Why bring these players into the squad, devote time and energy into them and then drop them because they have not been playing rugby?

“Driving disqualification and Welfare Benefits”

I posted this on nz.general but I think it is worth repeating:

If you are disqualified from driving you are able to apply for a limited licence to drive in conjunction with your work and I think in some cases there is a stand down period before you can apply. Parliament would have made that decision in the interests of rehabilitation and keeping people employed.

The process is not easy as AFAIK the person has to make a precise legal case for this and the police and Crown Law probably object to these applications in many cases. This generally requires engaging a lawyer familiar with that aspect of the law and associated case law at a cost of several hundred dollars. Nevertheless as Parliament has enacted such a provision and so if a disqualified driver meets the legal requirements the driver is entitled to a limited licence. If people do not like this the answer is to lobby Parliament for a law change.

Legal aid is presumably not available for this, but the Social Welfare Department will make an advance to beneficiaries to cover such legal costs with the aim of getting the beneficiary off the dole and back to work. The beneficiary must repay the advance by reasonable installments. Paula Bennett the Social Welfare Minister supports this approach.

However Judith Collins, presumably with her Minister of Police hat on has scoffed this as ‘politically correct nonsense’. Frankly, with respect to Social Welfare practice, this matter is nothing to do with the Police or their Minister. If the Police considers this makes it ‘too easy’ for people to get limited licence their role is limited to submitting to Cabinet through the Police Minister and the Transport Minister for a law change.

It is bad enough that the rich can often avoid disqualification by hiring lawyers to fight traffic infringements tooth and nail with the prosecution giving up in many cases (often because of procedural errors). If Judith has her way and manages to stop Social Welfare from making such advances then the ‘limited licence’ provision is effectively closed off to all but the rich’.

Paula Bennet is right on the button, but Judith Collins has not really thought this one through.

Nookin. You are dead right. Graham Henry has resorted to the “it is how kiwis bash people” meme. Never mind that fact that a good provincial player, even a fantastic one, wont always make a good international player. Donald has played in abotu 20 tests and his performances have been less than stellar. The ones he looked good in were ones that the entire team looked good in.

Brian S. – you are so right. Corey Jane is a prime. He looked no better than a provincial tradesman when first picked but has done well and is now a good All Black.

backster – Gear is what I would call a `flat track bully’ good in games that don’t matter but like Nonu weak in high pressure games like semi finals and finals. Gear had two tests without succes and is defensively weak.

Did Cooper stop Nonu once ? or did he wave him through relying on his loosies to do his job ?

I would play Gear for one damn good reason, NZ in the back three have dropped off in pace in relation to the Aussies, when it comes to finishing Gear has wheels.
Notice the Aussies play players for their strengths( and yes the Aussie front row is a joke) and try to cover their failings, Cooper being a case in point.
If not Nonu who ? SBW ? that is a laugh.

But jeez wayne, Toevea, I would rather have the old man from counties arranging the defence rather than that prat.

Stephen Donald did not lose the test the other night on his own.

He wasn’t on the paddock when the All Blacks had a flat start — they were a shadow of the blitzkrieg that blew apart the Wallabies and the South Africans in the first half of tests earlier this year.

Stephen Donald was not on the paddock when Adam Ashley-Cooper found a hole bigger than a barn door and ran nearly half the length of the field with barely an All Black in sight to score under the crossbar.

Stephen Donald was not responsible for Isaia Toeava being out of position and slipping over and allowing Kurtley Beale to sprint past him and put Drew Mitchell in at the corner.

Stephen Donald made three errors in his 20 minutes on the paddock, two of which bore on the result. He missed a penalty attempt. He kicked the ball to Beale, which allowed the final counter-attack to develop.

Dan Carter, from memory, missed two penalty attempts.

We should instead be gracious in defeat and admit that the Wallabies (does one call them Australians any more, since they are a team of expat South Africans, Zimbabweans, and New Zealanders) played bloody well, and with great guts.

Think about this: the score would have been higher if Kurtley Beale and Matt Giteau had managed to land half of their kicks at goal.

And, good on young O’Connor. For the rest of his days he can say ‘I beat the All Blacks’.

It was a loss. It happens, and often good comes from it.

@ TripeWryter; it was actually FOUR errors in the last five minutes, in this order:

1) a grubber kick from within his own 22 turning over possession
2) an aimless kick straight back to the Australians on the TV side of the field
3) the missed penalty kick which would have given the All Blacks an unassailable 8 point lead with three minutes to go
4) the missed tochfinder with 30sec remaining. He should have kicked the ball into the grandstand, which would have prevented the Aussies from taking a quick throw. The All Blacks had just defended around 20 phases, and needed a moment to regroup defensively

Yes, Toeava’s defence was woeful. Yes, the All Blacks started poorly. But when Carter left the field they were 12 points ahead, and Donald should have been able to close the game out.

Lastly, I was full of praise for the Australians yesterday. They and the All Blacks are the two best teams in the world, and there is little between them. The All Blacks have won a number of matches this season by caning other teams for their mistakes. On Saturday night, THEY made the mistakes, and got the caning.

grumpy – we have Dagg to come back from injury – should solve the 15 position although Muliaina is a Henry favourite.

SBW should have been on the bench on Saturday and if he is as good as they say he will replace Nonu who on Saturday in the first 20 minutes gave away two dumb penalties at rucks/tackle, turned the ball over twice once after a clean break (when he ran past 2 tight forwards) and missed Ashley Cooper badly. In addition Nonu is a non performer in games that relly matter like semi finals and finals.

Remember when we had those crunching tacklers Fox and Mehrtens at 10 when you criticise Quade Cooper.

The Aussies will be a formidable force at the world cup and they will have the best coach

My take is this. Test level is not the place to have players “learning their role” or “developing in the position”. They are supposed to be the best in that position available. I think the problem stems from contracts. They contract these players so are stuck with them. Are they still paying Ali Williams his salary?

Now who would you prefer to have flights to holidays overseas paid for by the mug tax payers, important self serving politicians who seem to believe their work is so difficult and they are so poorly paid that the mug tax payer owes them.

Or would you prefer to see people like Corporal Apiata VC and others like Jacinda Amey NZC and Reg Dixons wife get free business class flights whenever they want them, paid for by the taxpayer ?

Or do politicians deserve free flights more than the above ?
Because after all they are not politicians so do not deserve as much as politicians.

Inv. – as I have said for almost a year now over at KS – the Aussies are the big threats for the World Cup. Someone `dissed’ there scrum but with Robinson and Alexander they measure up at prop. Their problem is there is no back up so those two have to stay fit.

Deans is owed the AB coaching job after 2011.
So rant some Deans supporters, what is a surprise is that none of them will admit to Deans having anything to do with the world cup loss to the Aussies in 2003, who wanted to play a fullback at centre when the old man of counties was fit for the match.

I see Deans as the some as those on the black boat who took off to make up a Swiss team for the dollars.
So is Deans no different ? did he go for the money ?
Will he become a Aussie citizen ?

Others have stayed in NZ, should we not be loyal to them rather than to a coach who no doubt has handed a lot of information about NZ players over to the convicts.

So why is Deans owed in NZ ?

@ pdm – agree about the Aussies’ problem with depth. Going from three to four and next year to five Super Rugby teams has not grown their depth; it’s merely spread the talent pool a little thinner. This is evidenced by the number of non-Australian players being signed by the new Melbourne franchise.

They’re not alone in that however. Unitl we develop a test-standard first-five, opposition teams will target Dan Carter, knowing that if they nobble him they nobble the All Blacks.

My apologies, and yes, you were right about the fourth error. I agree with you about the others. But Donald’s going on to the field was not his own decision. It was Henry’s. My point was that a lot of mistakes had been made before then. These suddenly became important after Donald came on.

If Stephen Donald is not up to scratch at test level then he should not have been picked. That he was picked is not his fault. Henry and co deemed him good enough. So now they’ve got to live with their decision, and they’ve got a responsibility to him to help him.

I would not like Donald to be treated as Earle Kirton was on the 1963-64 tour. If you have a long memory you will recall that Newport beat the All Blacks, their only loss on that very long tour. Kirton was first-five that afternoon, and made some mistakes. But so did the rest of the team. It wasn’t a very good day, and a schoolboy called Uzzell flicked over the dropped goal that decided the match.

The All Black selectors and the New Zealand public made Kirton the scapegoat for the loss. He lost confidence, and didn’t play a lot over the tour.

He was still being blamed until 1967, when Fred Allen rescued him for the 1967 short tour of the UK. He ended up being one of the best of our first-fives.

I certainly remember the Kirton saga TW. Unfortunately, we don’t have four years to develop Stephen Donald; we need cover for Daniel Carter now! My take is that Doanld struggles with the step up in pace and intensity, and whereas he looks composed at ITM Cup level, his decision-making and generalship is rushed at the next level, and he does not instinctively make good decisions; that level of composure is the hallmark of a quality player. The grubber kick was a prime example; Donald was pilloried last season for aimless kicking from inside his 22; Saturday night was same-old-same-old.

Its like some of you just sit and wait for an AB loss so you can rant.

Deans is a fucking disaster. He FINALLY won a game against the All Blacks after losing TEN TIMES IN A ROW.

He had the Wallabies in camp for a month leading up to that game. The AB’s were together a week or so. Most hadnt played in 6 weeks.

Even after not showing up for the first 25 mins, we got to a winning position.

We made a mistake – we put toeava on the wing, a position he hasnt played in 2 years. He made some defensive errors – he is a top defender in the midfield.

They gave Donald a go to see how he would adapt to the new rule changes – changes that suit him a lot better and he also hadnt played under these rules at international level.

Some of you also have very short memories. The same shit was said about Mils before the tests this year (i was one suggesting he may be too old). he had a great tri nations and there was one example of his extreme pace that lead to a try. cant remember the specifics but the commentaters were saying – wow! hes still very fast etc etc

Our set piece is still miles ahead of aussie. Young Franks is gonna have 30+ tests come world cup time. Woody is still the man. We have a heap of locks, ali coming back on board is a bonus. We have the best loosies on the planet. Read a future captain.

We have the best fly half in history. We have a ton of backs. We have people like Dagg still to come back.

Slade is finally going to get some game time in super rugby, the dumb ass should have left the crusaders a year ago. Cruden is going to have a full season starting for the canes too. We will have OK back up to Dan.

Also, it was a dead rubbe rplayed in HK.

The old cliche – you learn more from your losses than your victories etc etc Im just glad we arent going into the RWC on a 20+ game winnig streak.

To sum up – it was out first loss in 16 games. We have played amazing rugby all year.

Lighten the fuck up.

Their is an obvious answer to the question of who should be Carters back up, the problem is that the NZRU will never allow it.

If the NZRU are genuine about wanting the best team at the RWC then they should go on bended knee and beg Nick Evans to come back.

Donald is like the Cooper brothers — good up to provincial and Super level. Out of their depth at test level. Same with Toeava.

England’s rugby scribes are either in awe of the All Blacks or party to one of the great media ambushes of our era.

To a man today they expressed grave doubt their side can cope with the All Blacks expansive style on the eve of the Grand Slam tour opener at Twickenham.

Former internationals Paul Ackford, in the Sunday Telegraph, and Lawrence Dallaglio and Stuart Barnes, in The Sunday Times, heaped praise on New Zealand as they arrived in the capital.

Even Stephen Jones, though he could not resist his annual poke at the relevance of the haka, waxed lyrical about the All Blacks’ “glittering triangle” of Dan Carter, Ma’a Nonu and Conrad Smith.

The All Blacks 2010 form appears to have impressed the English press to the point they have put them back on a pedestal.

Dallaglio compared the All Blacks to Manchester United and Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls in being an “iconic force” and played down their loss to Australia.

“They remain the best team in the world,” the famous No 8 wrote. “And we need someone else to show us the All Blacks are beatable. At Twickenham England will be playing for themselves and for the rest of the world.”

Dallaglio said the All Blacks’ ability to offload and use their footwork to avoid going to ground early with the ball set them apart from other teams.

“Much of what is great about the current team stems from the way Polynesian influence has been embraced and used to the team’s advantage.

“Polynesians are usually very good on their feet and like nothing better than to keep the ball alive. In this respect, their way has become the New Zealand way.”

Barnes too was in raptures over the power of Polynesians though he somewhat crudely applied stereotypes to New Zealanders via both race and region.

“The power of the Pacific Islanders has been supplemented by a healthy dose of brainpower based around Canterbury rugby’s Ivy League establishment,” the former first-five wrote.

Barnes credited Deans for taking the Canterbury brains trust to Australia and said “the Canterbury IQ is the core element of the All Blacks. The glory boys in the three quarter line predominantly emanate from the attack-obsessed lands of Wellington and Waikato.”

Crusaders No 8 Kieran Read (spelt incorrectly even in the Times’ headline as Reid) was held up as an example of the Canterbury contingents intellectual superiority with Owen Franks, Brad Thorn and Richie McCaw apparently also rugby genius’.

Ackford was even willing to dismiss 20 years of World Cup flops as he expressed concern about the inexperience of England’s young side and their ability to play running rugby.

“Forget their atrocious record at World Cups, New Zealand are the best, most compelling side on the planet by a distance.”

bruv – Dagg and Jane are the solutions to 14 & 15, play them whichever way round you like.

As to the SBW issue, what on earth makes you think he’ll go back to the smaller code after the RWC? He’s one of the few players that don’t really care about the playing salary, it’s all about the endorsement deals and “SBW-All Black” is the way to maximise that value.

The NZ based franchise (All Blacks they ain’t) has finally come up against a young team who have improved and once again are found wanting.

Polly – The average age of a World Cup winner has been over 27 and average Test caps count around the 40 mark.

The average I gave was from that starting side.

If you look at the squad – the average comes down.

I can’t disagree with anything you’ve said there bruv, I think SBW is motivated by the money and the way to maximise that is the endorsement opportunities that come with being an All Black.

Average caps for the players listed is around the 30 mark. with about 10 tests to go before the RWC (maybe a few more than 12) and the cup itself.. we are pretty much inline with the past winners.

A good balance of youth and experience.

Actually BB I agree with Jones re the haka. It is the most over used piece of PC nonsense we have. You can’t go to an opening of an envelope unless the haka is performed first. Or a karakia. The more it is performed the less special it becomes in my opinion. Having said that I do like the new haka though. And it isn’t performed every time. Corect me if I’m wrong, wasn’t the haka performed only on away games a few years back?

James – SBW was offered a million a year plus to stay in France. His NZ deal is about 500k. I dont believe he sacrificed a million dollars (over 2 years) to play for the all blacks.. so he could maybe make some more sponsership dollars.

Ive never met the man, but word out of the CRU is that he is a top bloke and down to earth.

As for actually winning the RWC, the only reason I give a shit is because the 4 years of whinging if we lose will be hard to tolerate. It amazes me how people thrive on negativity.

I mainly blame cantabs too. a bunch of joyless cocksmokers.

Sonny Bill Williams is going to revolutionise the way 2nd 5/8s play the game.

He will give a completely different option left or right to the first five, its going to be O for awesome. I’ m sorry he left league to play rugby, but people should just enjoy watching him.

I have seen some great footballers from both codes and SBW is a footballing deity to equal Michael Jones ,and he’s the best I’ve ever seen

wreck1080 – I suspect that measures will be introduced to deal with the ‘asset disposal’ problem. Currently, those receiving disposed assets can have them recalled within two years, or five years in case of fraud. Social Welfare can refuse ‘asset tested’ benefits where assets are disposed of within 10 years.

These periods could be usefully extended to 4 years re debts, 6 years re unconscionable conduct (or other equity breaches) and 10 years or longer for criminal fraud.

Peter Dunne would not want to stop asset ‘swapping’ between marriage or ‘nature of marriage’ partners but IRD and Bill English may have other ideas.

In other words the ‘braking’ effect of gift duty is likely to be achieved through other mechanisms.

One reason for Hanover Finance’s ‘moratorium’ appeared to be to help put dividends paid to the owners and transferred to their family trusts outside the two year ‘window’.

And the 10 minutes I watched on Saturday with Nonu being a revolving door for Australian backs to wander through suggests the quicker they get him started the better.

and with Red gone, just imagine its like the weekend when the kids are away, – a nice bit of peace and quite- you know they’ll be back but just enjoy the moment

So is Stephen Donald at ITM cup level.

Nothing I have seen from the thug SBW has even suggested that he will make it at the top level, for a start he should have earned his place in the team on merit, clearly he has not.

Nonu and Smith are the best centre pairing in the world, it sickens me to think that a talentless thug like SBW is going to get a test just because the morons at the NZRU think he might bring in bigger crowds.

Pauleastbay, the Oz/Frog thug is NOT “really good”.

He has size and potential (but it’s all potential).

If you watched games he has been involved in you would have noticed his inability to position himself to enable his participation both on defense and attack.

He has no “rugby brain” and spends most of his time imitating a headless chicken.

I have no idea what sort of player he was in that other strange game but I doubt he’ll ever be much more than he is right now at rugby – if only because like BB I doubt he’ll be around long enough to learn the game.
