The “Hospitality” indistry has been quick to condemn the absence of supermarket minimum price provisions in liquor law changes now proposed.

The obviouis question: Why?

The obvious answer: Restaurants, bars, liquor stores et al are being challenged by supermarket sales to home/BYO consumers.

Financial self interest?????

On another level, silly red Len may find he is in serious legal trouble by threatening liquor outlets over single RTD sales. Why? To support his fellow socialists in Labour and the red melons.

A post from yesterday GD that I have re-posted it here again.

Anyway, here is a shorter video by Dr. Little which I recommend you watch it of how TEW explains the physicality of Special Relativity (SR).

Special Relativity

When you move across the room, your measuring devices will tell you that every other objects in the universe are shrinking & expanding/elongating (depending on your motion’s direction) relative to you. Consider 2 different moving persons in their own respective spaceships who happen to home-in their measuring devices such as radars on the same 3rd person we call person-3? Say person-1 is moving towards person-3 and person-2 is moving away from person-3. In special relativity person-1 and person-2 will end up with different measurement of person-3. One concludes that person-3 is shrinking and the other one concludes that person-3 is expanding or elongating? The question to ask, is if person-3 is indeed really physically shrinking or expanding/elongating? TEW said it is neither, the size of person-3 stays the same, it is the appearance of the signal that conveys the message (it is light/electro-magnetic signal in this case) that has changed (which is compatible with SR equation’s prediction).

I’ll remind readers and physicists here who have rejected causality in favor of fairy tale that the equations of SR are correct. The physicality is what’s wrong. Objects here on earth (including humans) don’t start shrinking and elongating simply because some observers in faraway galaxies have started moving (either away or towards us) relative to us here on earth. All the sizes of objects here on earth stays the same, we are neither shrink nor elongate, but those moving observers in faraway galaxies checked their measuring devices that they homed-in on us here on earth and the readings perfectly agreed with SR prediction. It is because the signal that they received has changed but not because our physical size here on earth did really change (ie, shrinking or elongating).

Physicists today take it literary and think that objects are actually either shrinking or elongating physically relative to some moving objects somewhere in the universe. This physical picture (shrinking or elongating physically) and nonsense has been accepted as how the universe operate for over a hundred years and it is only in the last 40 years or so that some physicists had questioned the interpretation. AGAIN, the SR equations are correct. The foundation of its physical formulation of the theory that what was wrong. It didn’t base on any physical observation at all. Einstein took the constancy of speed of light as a basic fact of reality (which is true) and derived his SR theory from there.

I see the ‘intellectual giant’ of local television (TV3) has breathlessly announced the launch of some programme about the Ridges – Mother and Daughter.

Yuk!

Its astonishing that any ‘commercial’ organisation would approve the spend required to make a programme about two no-name, wannabe ‘celebrities’ and even more astonishing that they expect that anyone would actually want to watch it.

If ever TV3 wonders why their viewer numbers are still on a fixed course directly south, then this latest announcement should serve as a hint….

David Clark had his ‘opinion’ pubished in the ODT yesterday promoting his minimum wage bill. It was suposed to make a case but it was mostly political puffery, including:

But the relationship between minimum wage and unemployment is not clear cut. Let me give an example. Over nine years between 1990 and 1999, the National government increased the minimum wage by a total of just 70c.

Unemployment soared. By contrast, when Labour increased the minimum wage $5 over the following nine years, unemployment plummeted to the lowest levels in the OECD.

A comment on ODT online disputed his unemployment claim for the 90s. I did some research which backs that up. I asked Clark what he based his claim on and he said the statistics “pretty clearly illustrates my point”.

Is he trying to pull the wool or is he just a very woolly thinker? The chart and details here seems quite clear: David Clark’s unemployment claims disputed.

And this was one of Labour’s flagship polices last election! Clark was embarrassed on Q+A over his lack of depth, and he hasn’t progressed from that.

I see this ridiculous creature regularly swanning around the ‘trendy’ cafes and bars on Ponsonby Road (and no I am not a Ponsonby ‘Hipster’ -I happen to live nearby) and you would struggle to find a more pathetic ‘wannabe’ social climber anywhere in the Country. (I guess there is Ali ‘I’m an International superstar’ Williams- but that’s another story)

Also, if I understand correctly, an elementary wave supposedly explains the double slit experiment by propagating backwards from the detector towards the source of light and determining the particles dynamics at the point of interference (the slits).

How does this explain gravitational lensing given that the photon’s trajectory is influenced by the gravity of stars millions of years ago as it passes a distant star? If the elementary wave propagates out from our detectors (e.g. a telescope created in the recent past) and it cannot travel faster than light then the elementary wave will not reach the point of interference (i.e. the star) for millions of years and the photon itself passed by the star millions of years ago already.

While I sympathise with everybody who gets pissed off at the utterly braindead MSM, I must point out that complaining will have no effect whatsoever because in this age of fracturing media they are grateful for any attention they can get! You are actually doing these clowns a service by focusing on them.

So don’t – and let them die – as CNN apparently is in the USA. And if that death means the end of family afternoons and nights in front of the TV as in the good old days of free-to-air All Black tests and It’s In The Bag, well, I hate to tell you this but those days are long gone anyway. From here on you will have to do all the picking and choosing rather than relying on some idiot “programmer” – and is that not better anyway?

Quite often one sees an article, looks at the reaction – and then leaves the subject alone.

However, in the wake of Niall Ferguson’s article in The Daily Beast (the web side of the almost vanished weekly magazine, Newsweek), where he said it was time to “Dump Obama”, he’s decided to do a follow-up response to all the left-wing critics who attacked.

The result is pretty bloody devastating, as he takes apart the so-called “fact-checking” and exposes it as nothing more than opinion and argument. He then has fun with the other aspect of their attacks, failure to counter the central argument and their vilification of him. I chuckled at a couple of things in the latter are:

First prize goes to Berkeley professor Brad DeLong, whose blog opened with the headline “Fire-His-Ass-Now.” “He lied,” rants DeLong. “Convene a committee at Harvard to examine whether he has the moral character to teach at a university.”

My own counter-suggestion would be to convene a committee at Berkeley to examine whether or not Professor DeLong is spending too much of his time blogging when he really should be conducting serious research or teaching his students. For example, why hasn’t Professor DeLong published that economic history of the 20th century he’s been promising for the past six years? It can’t be writer’s block, that’s for sure.

Ouch!

Runner up is James Fallows of The Atlantic for his hilariously pompous post “As a Harvard Alum, I Apologize.” Well, as an Oxford alum, I laugh.

However, he ends on a very sober note:

I don’t usually waste time on this kind of thing. In the Internet age, you can spend one week writing a piece and the next three responding to criticism, most of it (as we have seen) worthless.

But there comes a point when you have to ask yourself: has the American public sphere so degenerated that it is now impossible to make the case for a change of president without being set upon in cyberspace by a suspiciously well-organized gang of the current incumbent’s most ideologically committed supporters?

I just happened to feel like trotting out the lines that everybody else uses when ever somebody complains that “there’s too much sex / swearing / violence / whatever” on TV, and immediately gets castigated for being a prude and told not to spoil the fun for everybody else 🙂

I vaguely recall reading an interview in some “Woman’s mag” where the so-called interviewer asked Jamie how good Sonny Bill was in the sack. FFS! She’s, what, 18 years old? Have some shred of decency. And then, this so-called “interviewer” went on to ask Sally if she could hear them!! I mean, come on!

Words cannot describe how truly awful that sort of rubbishy pap is. The whole sordid mess is just … ew.

Am intrigued at the Auckland Council’s so called debacle over employment matters.
Of course joining up eight Council groups of employees is difficult particularly those who have served considerable time with one Council, and have settled themselves into a cushy little number, and cannot take any changes.
Anybody who has been “taken over” with new Managers could feel aggrieved, but to pay large sums of money because somebody does not like the new regime.
It is obvious that the particular Manager concerned does not take fools gladly, and our PC environment permits them to feel aggrieved, and get paid for it.

Dunedin City Council blocks acces to Family First website.

Apparently the family first website is seen as ‘Hate Speech” by the DCC.

Good lord – what are we coming to. If there is one way to promote something then its to make it difficult to get or even illegal.

Maybe its time the DCC was replaced with a commissioner to enable them to concentrate on their main obligation – water, waste , sewage, etc.

That’s interesting barry, but not sure if it’s a valid complaint or attention seeking indignation by Family First:

Council communications and marketing manager Graham McKerracher said the council did not control the filtering process, which was done by a United States company.

When the company was employed, the council gave it broad categories of offensive content it wanted limited in its internal network.

The company’s filter automatically scanned sites for words or phrases that placed sites in those categories and sites deemed offensive were automatically blocked.

Mr McKerracher could last night not say why the Protect Marriage site was blocked.

But a block meant the site, or someone leaving a comment on the site, might have used language determined by the filter to be offensive, resulting in the site being put on a banned list.

Wake up and smell the coffee Pete George – groups like “Focus on the Family” have been defined as “hate” groups in the USA, it is almost certainly not “accidental” that Family First’s website tripped the filter though the council probably didn’t know.

Families are the foundation of civil and orderly societies and the promotion of them is not hate speech in any way shape or form – this is fascism creeping up on us and imposed upon us by a vapid, indolent, decadent elite who are squandering our wealth on themselves and running us into massive debt as they do it.

You of course I like Boxer in “Animal Farm” who will continue to believe in the benevolence of these evil people right up to the minute they cut your throat.

Yes – I listen to the National Radio 4pm programme that is a talkfeast by a panel of people.

Sometimes they have a female from dunedin who is on the DCC. She is something else. A complete lesbian who I think despises anyone who is hetro and she has no sense of how people interact. I think she lives in cloud cookoo land – and it will be the likes of her who made up the list for US filtering outfit. DCC cant get out that easily – they make up the critera for the US filtering company.

I am with Pete George on this.
The question to ask is “Why was the staff member attempting to access this site in work time and on the work bandwidth”. Is this something that would be better done on own time and on own bandwidth.

I pay for the bandwidth I chose the filter policies,if you pay for the bandwidth you can select your own filter policies if any, end of story.

The site appears relatively innocuous and not in the slightest offensive but does use language pertaining to sexuality matters thereby possibly triggering the filter.
It is unlikely that DCC is in any way limiting freedom of speech as alleged by Mr McCroskie.

Really Pete? I’m sure then that DCC can confirm that access to news sites like Stuff and the Herald is regularly blocked. After all, their stories will often refer to “rape”, “sexual assault”, “sexual connection”. And (much to the shame of our communities) too often with “child” in the same article.

A circus owner runs an ad for a lion tamer and two young
people show up. One is a good looking lad in his mid-
twenties and the other is a gorgeous blonde about the same
age.

The circus owner tells them, “I’m not going to sugar coat it
— this is one ferocious lion. He ate my last tamer so you
guys better be good or you’re history. Here’s your
equipment: chair, whip and a gun. Who wants to try out
first?” The girl says, “I’ll go first.”

She walks past the chair, the whip and the gun and steps
right into the lion’s cage. The lion starts to snarl and
pant and begins to charge at her. About half way there, she
throws open her coat revealing her beautiful naked body.

The lion stops dead in his tracks, sheepishly crawls up to
her and starts licking her ankles. He continues to lick
her calves, kisses them and rests his head at her feet.

The circus owner’s mouth is on the floor. He says, “I’ve
never seen a display like that in my life.” He then
turns to the young man and asks, “Can you top that?”

The young man replies. “No problem, just get that lion
out of the way.”

President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors. That’s good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again. The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.

Right now, the federal government owns 500,000,000 shares of GM, or about 26% of the company. It would need to get about $53.00/share for these to break even on the bailout, but the stock closed at only $20.21/share on Tuesday. This left the government holding $10.1 billion worth of stock, and sitting on an unrealized loss of $16.4 billion.

My position on Paedophilia is black and white. I’m not promoting vigilante justice here but the most they deserve is a kindly word periodically from a paid jailer.
