Now for the good news.

(well I think so but no doubt the Greens and the wankers that slum in the troughs of give me land and the various other slime entities like unions and the Labour Party won’t like this.)

Since 2008/09 the Government has received more cash as royalty payments from upstream oil and gas producers than it received from its state-owned enterprise portfolio.

The petroleum sector contributes enormously “but largely silently” to New Zealand’s economy. Crude oil is the most valuable export to our biggest market, Australia.

Edison Investment Research in its inaugural New Zealand Petroleum Sector Yearbook finds that nearly $7 billion has been invested in the oil and gas sector during the past five years.

Oil and gas sector responsible for $2 billion of petroleum exports a year.

Throughout New Zealand explorers have almost 90 wells planned during the next two years and they span all of the Taranaki basin and parts of the East Coast and Great South basins.

Exploration spending could spike to “unprecedented levels”. Including Maui A and B programmes up to 28 offshore wells are committed to or likely to be completed over the next two years. At least 60 onshore wells are also slated.
(Maui is being re vitalized by new drilling practices that didn’t exist when it was first drilled. Much more oil and gas is predicted and already some holes are underway.)

Family dinner tonight, have to wheel out some great beers and wines, cooking for most of the afternoon.

I’m not too good on the old apostrophies but my pet hate is the ever increasing “bought” instead of brought ie dropping the r.

Lots of folk do it here. I’ve seen it in newspapers which is unforgivable.
People are starting to pronounce broadband without the r too. Just a matter of time before they spell it wong too.

ps I agree with about the Bishop too. Interesting how a politicians private life would be protected in similar circumstances. There’s a whif of hypocricy here. Cue the haters……..

Titoki Black, from the Te Kohanga Reo National Trust said some of their rural and Auckland centres did not use playdough.

The trust has several Maori early childhood centres across New Zealand, including in Christchurch.

“Because it is made from flour and water, which is used to make bread, Maori are not comfortable about using playdough and having it thrown around, turning it into beads and wearing it around your neck,” she said.

Another pious idiot. I wish more maori would speak up and tell the Titoki Black’s to stop speaking on behalf of all maoridom.

I would still hesitate to claim that I have mastered all the basic facts of Norwegian political life, let alone those vital nuances. I understand the situation from recent newspaper commentary, and I am particularly indebted to Chris Trotter, in the Press of the 26th of July. It appears that even Norway is not as happy a place as we might be inclined to think. It has recently received its share of Muslim immigrants, and now a full tenth of Norway’s population is Muslim. Europe generally has preferred to adopt the `multicultural’ approach which allows and positively encourages new arrivals to retain their own customs and way of life, rather than becoming integrated into the wider society, and this is exacerbated in Norway by deep-seated insular attitudes, even among the elite, which, while allowing foreigners to enter, nevertheless at another level do not really want foreigners to take part in their traditions. Norwegian Muslims, anyway, do not participate much in mainstream Norwegian life, and live in enclaves of striking poverty. Muslim crime and violence against the wider population is notorious. In 2001, as but one example, it was reported that 65% of rapes in Norway were committed by Muslims.

Needless to say, many among the native Norwegian population are particularly concerned about this, and this concern expresses itself through the Progressive Party, which, according to Chris Trotter, ‘brought together rural and provincial Norwegians antagonistic to the influx of non-white, non-Christian immigrants with the growing number of young, urban-dwelling Norwegians chafing under the benign collectivism of Norway’s social-democratic institutions’. The Progressive Party in fact is the second-largest part in Norwegian politics, enjoying something like 25% of the popular vote, as well as considerable public sympathy for its stance on Muslim immigration beyond that 25%. Breivik had been a member of this party, but had later left it because he considered it too inclined to compromise and moderation. Nevertheless, because of its ‘racial and religious prejudice’ ~ I quote Chris Trotter again ~ ‘essentially, the entire Norwegian political class, aided by the news media, came together to mount an effective political boycott of the Progressive Party’. Other political parties declared it persona non grata, and as a consequence ‘upwards of one quarter of the population found its political beliefs and aspirations deliberately excluded from government’ for the indefinite future.

So in Norway, then, a quarter of the population is more or less permanently denied any participation in government and legislation, because their objections to what is happening to their own society are considered by the other political parties and their supporters to be out of the question and beyond even the slightest consideration. In the name of tolerance of other points of view, of course.

The New Zealand I grew up in was essentially monocultural; in parts of New Zealand, even Maori were virtually invisible. But overall, our immigration policy targeted people of British origin.

Australia pursued a much more adventurous policy, recruiting large numbers of immigrants from southern Europe and the near Middle East. As a result, Australia in the 1960s and 70s was an infinitely more vibrant and cosmopolitan society.

But how things have changed. Population statistics confirm what should be apparent to anyone walking down Auckland’s Queen Street: New Zealand has undergone a quiet revolution. In a remarkably short time, we have been transformed from one of the western world’s most homogeneous societies into one of the most ethnically diverse. Spoonley describes Auckland as one of the world’s major destination cities, comparing it with Toronto and Vancouver.

Not only has immigration increased, but immigrants have become far more visible because many of them are from China, India, Korea and the Philippines.

And although this is most obvious in our biggest city, don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s purely an Auckland thing. Overall, 23 percent of the New Zealand population in 2006 (our most recent census, since the one scheduled for 2010 was cancelled after the Christchurch earthquake) was born overseas.

To someone of my generation, this is a change of staggering proportions.

As revolutions go, it could hardly have been quieter. I don’t recall the government making a dramatic policy announcement to the effect that New Zealand would be opening its doors to the world. There was no great debate, no public meetings. It happened incrementally and largely without fuss.*

A few questioning voices were heard. Veteran Auckland journalist Pat Booth wrote a controversial series of articles in 1993 warning of an “Asian invasion” and Winston Peters’ New Zealand First Party tried, without much success, to make political capital out of the inflow of “non-traditional” immigrants in 1996.

The other day I came across one of the best examples I’ve ever seen of the moral and ethical superiority in which left-wingers cloak themselves, and this example comes direct from the usual sort of “intelligent” and “educated” superior mind, writing for the usual sort of “superior” magazine that left-wingers adore.

In this case the article is by one Jane Mayer in The New Yorker and the following quote is a doozy:

Big donors were particularly offended by Obama’s reluctance to pose with them for photographs at the first White House Christmas and Hanukkah parties. . . .

Creating a sense of intimacy with the President is especially important with Democratic donors, a frustrated Obama fund-raiser argues: “Unlike Republicans, they have no business interest being furthered by the donation-they just like to be involved. So it makes them more needy. It’s like, ‘If you’re not going to deregulate my industry, or lower my taxes, can’t I at least get a picture?’ “

The shorter message is that GOP billionaire backers are selfish and greedy, while Democrat billionaires are alturistic.

FFS. Could it be any more self-deluding? I’d like to think that this is just brain-dead partisanship, but there are too many implications that this is an ideological, Manichaean world-view that is easily the equal of any old-time, fire-and-brimstone preacher. Is it any surprise that people who can apply that mindset in a situation where good and evil are the least likely to be easily identified, are such assholes when it comes to defending other aspect of their beliefs?

Something to remember the next time some leftist screams about how “evil” you are on some topic or another.

Maori culture is not about ‘talking shit’ to children.

They are out there indoctrinating children with what is an absolute lie – an absolutly pathetic idea that you ‘can’t play with food’ yet alcohol itself is made from food – and induces playfulness.

My problem is that my kids who are of European and Maori origin have to labelled and live in a society that has this Bullshit put up as Maori Heritage and belief, they simply get embarassed as their friends joke and stir them up about headlines like this and water ownership amongst other things.
Kiwis first and formost .
My youngest is 12 and she thinks its silly, Im much older and I think its pathetic.

Most play dough recipes include half a cup of salt – so while the ingredients may be food items, there is usually strong advice that the end product should not be eaten, as it can make a child quite ill.

lilman, as are mine… I’ve been priviledged to have grown sons as well as a 6 year old, all 3 fair skinned and light coloured eyes. They are use to the taunts from maori kids for being … pakeha… And being so called rich cos they had homemade lunches, warm clothing and shoes on their feet.

They are also use to being labelled, nigger and savage, by pakeha adults.

Personally, I find it easier to ignore some stupid bint telling me my son can’t play with playdough, that some racist bint calling my kids and I , niggers.

I’m afraid I think they do it because they really do believe that airing it is good “for the cause.”

Not all but most media people, like not all but most teachers, are screaming loony raving lefty mental fools, and that’s just the more sensible ones. You can tell this from the output we get in the media and from the curricula.

Sadly the common thread in all of their lefty lunacy be it this topic or gay rights or women’s rights or whatever it may be is that it aims to create a mentality of angry entitlement arising from a sense of injustice arising from alleged persecution. Lefty lunacy never aims to portray a bunch of stuff that happened in a neutral way, it always, yes always, seeks to aportion blame and engender a sense of victimhood. If lefty’s really lived up to their alleged values, they would preach forgiveness and understanding a heck of a lot, but instead, the more left you are, the more you find screeching hags of victimhood and persecution ala Wussell, Sue Bradford, et al. And like I said, they’re all about blame.

While it’s up to every thinking person to set their own moral compass and be discerning in how they view what they take in from the myriad of information in this universe of ours, the lefty mindset IMO has nothing to offer one in any direction if one is interested in compassion or wisdom or indeed intelligence, and I just find it completely amusing that most lefties out there today, lay claim to a monopoly on those particular traits being vested in their particular perspective. Which is a mind boggling irony of biblical proportion whichever way anyone looks at it.

Correct me if I’m wrong but a websight devoted to cats that may or may not look like Hitler isn’t a very good use of valuable global bandwidth. Perhaps if we didn’t have sites like this, then we wouldn’t need a fibre optic cable project that recently got abandoned due to US corporate facist pricing regimes. I wonder what would happen if the cats on that website were to be posted to the cable landing zone in the US and let loose, to do what they wilt? So perhaps we do need sites like these, after all.
