Papademetriou (2000) captures well a prevailing view about international migration in the
contemporary world – a world in which population movement is assuming
increasing significance as a force for social transformation everywhere. He
echoes Castles and Miller (1998:1) who lay considerable emphasis on the
role of international migration in creating “novel forms of interdependence,
transnational society and bilateral and regional co-operation [ that ] are
rapidly transforming the lives of millions of people and inextricably weaving
together the fates of states and societies”. Castles and Miller (1998:1)
acknowledge that while the movements of people across borders have
shaped states and societies for centuries, “what is distinctive in recent years
is their global scope, their centrality to domestic and international politics
and their enormous economic and social consequences”

The immigration policy review in 1986 was part of a much larger
agenda for change in New Zealand (Bedford 1996). It was not essentially a
change in state policy with a primary focus on one region of the world, as
Parr (2000:329) suggests, although clearly through the 1980s and 1990s
immigration from countries in Asia was a highly topical issue for both
politicians and the public. The attitudes of New Zealanders in the mid-1990s
towards immigration may not have reflected the positive perspective on the
value of diversity in our society that is contained in the Review of
Immigration Policy August 1986. But this does not mean that the globalisation
of immigration to New Zealand was an “unintended consequence of policy
changes in 1986”. It was a deliberate strategy, based on a premise that the
“infusion of new elements to New Zealand life has been of immense value to
the development of this country to date and will, as a result of this
Government’s review of immigration policy, become even more important in
the future” (Burke 1986:330). The data on arrivals, departures, approvals,
refugee flows and net migration gains and losses reported in this paper
indicates that “the infusion of new elements” into New Zealand society is
proceeding apace. There is no suggestion in immigration policy in 2002 that
this will not “become even more important in the future”, as Burke (1986)
assumed in the mid-1980s.

New Zealand’s population is undergoing a profound transformation in
terms of its ethnic and cultural composition. This transformation is being
driven by two key processes. The first of these is differential ageing of the
major components of the resident population with the dominant “white”
population experiencing structural ageing more rapidly than the Maori and
Pacific Island components (Pool 1999). The second is international
migration which is seeing a replacement in numerical terms of tens of
thousands of New Zealanders who are moving overseas by immigrants from
countries in Asia, Europe and Africa especially. This process of population
replacement is occurring at a time when natural increase amongst all
components of the New Zealand resident population is falling. International
migration is thus playing an increasingly important role in changing the
ethnic and cultural composition of the population, but to understand this
role it is necessary to examine both the immigration of new residents as well
as the emigration of New Zealanders. Both dimensions are essential for
appreciating the globalisation of international migration in New Zealand.

Um, I don’t think so – of course they wouldn’t. They would feature one atheist and secular humanist after another slamming Christianity.

There would be calls to monitor all sermons in churches, all Christian schools, and all Christian websites. A site like mine would certainly be targeted, and the freedom to preach the gospel would be eroded even further. It would be open season on Christianity.

But because this is a Muslim who did this, the entire focus of the MSM is to push the PC line that this has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. Never mind the Islamic credentials of the hostage taker….”

The aftermath of the Sydney hostage drama.Not a good look , a disaster a bloodbath.All because a so called “TAME” judge granted the hostage taker, bail on another matter of murdering his wife, and 300 alleged illicit sex charges. Would be interesting to hear the background of the so called “TAME” judge, and his reasons for granting bail to the Iranian refugee,for his alleged serious charges.

Apparently its a syndrome that is widespread in the US, and according to this story on the issue, the fakes frequently claim Metis tribe attachment.

As Kiwiblog readers will know we have a frequent contributor who claims to be of Cherokee Metis heritage.

Apparently the Cherokee are very unhappy with these pretenders. They have established a database where anyone can search out a name and establish whether or not there is any real connection. I put our local guy’s name into the data base and here’s what I got.

Andrew Little seems to be trying to make “jobs and economic security” his catchphrase. He’s throwing the line into any statement he makes, even on completely unrelated topics. It’s a sensible move. Jobs and the economy matter to ordinary kiwis, unlike the details of SIS/GCSB procedure, or whether John Key texted a blogger.

But Little’s problem (assuming the job focus is not just empty words and he backs it up with policy) is this will inevitably cause conflict with the Greens and their policies over mining/drilling/pretty much everything. Just this morning Kennedy Graham was advocating reducing dairy herds as a way of reducing our emissions. Never mind the dairy workers or factory hands that would lose their jobs as a result.

Between Little’s focus on jobs and his direct, aggressive approach to things I can see Labour’s relationship with the Green’s getting pretty acrimonious.

It certainly was a sad day for NZ when the Winston Peters Party joined hands with Russel Abnormal and Materialistic Turei from the commie “green” party, totally opposing the security measures enacted by John Key for the safety of the citizens of NZ. The mentioned so called politicians made a lot of noise last week in Parliament opposing the security measures even Angry Little’s, little party was dragged screaming into the measures. Seems today the silence from the so called opposition NZ Parties has been deafening on the tragic events in Sydney. Wonder why they vehemently opposed the security measures, enacted by John Key to protect NZs.

The time has come for judges to be accountable to the people, just as citizens are accountable to the judiciary.
WHAT is the full name of that reptilian TAME judge.
I imagine that under Australian privacy laws that cannot be disclosed in Australia. But look at the first four letters of this blog. New Zealand is not a state of Australia.
Help the Aussies out. Publish the name of that imbecile in a domain that is outside of Australia. Then my Aussie mates can treat that person with the opprobrium he (she?) deserves.

Thanks; I haven’t heard the conversation. However, it raises the question:

Exactly WHAT do the greens intend to do to create jobs and economic growth? I have never ever heard ‘definite’; and ‘concrete’ proposals. There is a lot of talk about ‘sustainable’ ‘renewable’ etc, but in respect of actual practical ‘this will give you a job’ situations, there seems to be very little substance and the gween supporters become both evasive and abusive if one tries to pin them down to details. Essentially gween policy seems to be very long on theory but VERY short on substance, and also very contradictory in application (plastic bags at a ‘head in the sand’ environmental protest, being one recent example).

In the absence of Toad, (who seems to have become MIA), can someone explain exactly what ‘concrete’ things the gweens’ would do should they ever come to power (without getting into the political aspect, thanks), or point to a situation where gween policies have been actually put in place and how many jobs have been created as a result? In this instance I am not talking about individuals who have taken-on ‘environmentally friendly’ methods in respect of their businesses, but rather where a member of the gween party has actually made their policies work AND CAN PROVE IT!!

Reducing cow emissions are not quite in this category, hence my questions.

In the absence of Toad, perhaps someone can clarify the situation on the gweens behalf?

While appreciating the father’s grief and the need to blame ‘someone’, ‘anyone’ (except himself and his belief system) for what has happened to his child, the facts simply don’t add up.

The 22 year old daughter made an adult, considered, reasoned choice, despite the ‘known hazards’. She went, (there was no reason to stop her), she saw, she put herself ‘in harms way’, she knew the risks, she died.

And it’s Australia’s (specifically Tony Abbott’s) fault?

Of course the comments from a waste of space Goff, who once was seen to hug the terrorist leader of Hamas, Yasser Arafat, as he slipped him $500,000 NZ TAXPAYER DOLLARS,allegations at the time ,was for Arafat and his terrorist gang was to buy guns ,to be used against Israelis. I have been critical of Red’s “debating” style, his views and claims, and Red does not like anyone questioning anything he says. That is why he responds to almost everyone, not with straight answers to the issue, but with personal attacks and abuse.

In my case I challenged him often enough that he began stalking me online, digging into my past, finding out where my wife works and threatening to send emails there, and various other creepy and dishonorable tactics.

That is where all this obsession about my heritage comes from. He can’t beat me in a straight debate, so resorts to stalking and weak attempts at character assassination.

Than: you are spot on about Angry Andy’s predicament. Of course, it is not only any relationship with the Greens that he is jeopardising but also his left wing chums in the Labour Party. Even a cursory perusal of the posts over on The Standard indicate that Andy is already off side with large chunks of his left-wing base over his support for the anti-terrorism laws and his comments post the Sydney siege.

The best way to inflame acrimony within Labour ranks is to promote the view that Andy is wishing to push the Labour Party towards the middle and away from the alleged ‘missing million’ that the left constantly witter on about.

How I know about my ethnicity is from the adoption agency, and from my birth mother through the adoption agency, which passed on that information to me, but did not reveal who my birth parents actually were, as that is the law in the US regarding closed adoptions.

With about 300,000 households getting the $335 each September, that’s $100 million the trust gives to families each year, from the dividends in the shares they own.

But it’s worse. You won’t believe this.
The Boagan plan is to give those Vector shares, worth about $2 billion, to Lyin’ Len Brown’s Council.
Then, one of three things can happen:

1. Lyin’ Len will sell the $2 billion in shares to part-fund his train set or

2. Lyin’ Len will borrow a $2 billion against the shares to part-fund his train set and use the $100 million a year that used to go to households to pay the interest on his debt, or

3. Lyin’ Len will use the $100 million each September to pay for another hundred meters for his train set
Remember, the trust isn’t part of the council. It is a private trust. The Boagan wants Bennett and Bridges to NATIONALISE it to give to Lyin’ Len’s council. And every family will miss out on $335 a year every year forever …

Time is nigh for Press Council to take a look at the treacherous rubbish Vance is writing, and getting published in Fairfax publications. This latest piece about our PM and terrorism is really bad and needs further investigation . . . she is a dog, and possibly being led by a Labour MP of ill repute.

Maybe there is a place for her sort of reporting BUT,

The problem is, here in NZ there is no balance from the other side.

We have coped this shit for so long.

Wait for the devastaing ratings that these prats will have to suck up when an honest
news organisation appears.

By honest, I mean something that has been missing in NZ.

C’mon, the time to get Vance was when she leaked the Kitteridge report. Except they (National) couldn’t because it probably meant the Possum would have gone down too. And at the time they needed him to prop them up.

The key thing about conventional political wisdom is that it is usually wrong. This idea that the election of Hillary Rodham Clinton is “inevitable” is wide of the mark. A 17% cash rate and a ruble in free fall – they’re fucked.

Russia on Monday announced that it would hike its key interest rate to 17 percent, effective Tuesday, citing rising devaluation and inflation risks.

The bank had raised the rate to 10.5 percent last week in an effort to stem a run on its currency.

“This decision is aimed at limiting substantially increased ruble depreciation risks and inflation risks,” the central bank said in a statement. The decision is effective starting Dec 16.

Earlier on Monday, the Russian ruble saw its biggest drop against the dollar since 1998. It strengthened after the rate decision and was last trading at 62.50 rubles per dollar, compared to 65.50 before the announcement.

A man who’d just died is delivered to a local mortuary wearing an expensive, expertly tailored black suit.
The female blonde mortician asks the deceased’s wife how she would like the body dressed. She points out that the man does look good in the black suit he is already wearing.
The widow, however, says that she always thought her husband looked his best in blue, and that she wants him in a blue suit. She gives the Blonde mortician a blank check and says, ‘I don’t care what it costs, but please have my husband in a blue suit for the viewing.’
The woman returns the next day for the wake. To her delight, she finds her husband dressed in a gorgeous blue suit with a subtle chalk stripe; the suit fits him perfectly…
She says to the mortician, ‘Whatever this cost, I’m very satisfied… You did an excellent job and I’m very grateful.. How much did you spend?’
To her astonishment, the blonde mortician presents her with the blank check.
‘There’s no charge,’ she says.
‘No, really, I must compensate you for the cost of that exquisite blue suit!’ she says.
‘Honestly, ma’am,’ the blonde says, ‘it cost nothing. You see, a deceased gentleman of about your husband’s size was brought in shortly after you left yesterday, and he was wearing an attractive blue suit. I asked his wife if she minded him going to his grave wearing a black suit instead, and she said it made no difference as long as he looked nice. So I just switched the heads.”

These two short sentences tell you a lot about our Government and our culture:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.

Funny how that works.

And here’s another one worth considering.

2. Seems we constantly hear about how the NZ Old Age Pension Plan could run out of money. How come we never hear about the Welfare System running out of money ? What’s interesting is the first group “worked for” their money, but the second group didn’t !!

After reading the standard for a brief minute I am so ashamed to be a Kiwi. The knuckle draggers over there are crowing and gloating that the Govt will not hit the surplus. Christ you would almost think the wicked witch was dead.

1. ya can’t beat the market.
2.Central Bankers play with themselves too much, for really despite their ego driven perceptions of their ability to control things like money and inflation, they are essentially impotent.
