I’ve been looking at the election results in great detail, especially in light of the claims by Labour and the Greens that NZ Voted for change.

I still find it odd when you compare the 2014 and 2017 election results and you discover that NZ First lost 22,000 votes between elections and The Greens lost 95,000 votes over the same period.

Which makes their efforts to deny the National Party the opportunity to form the Government, when they increased their total vote by 20,000.

Some will say that I don’t understand how MMP works. I know how MMP works, but do Winston and James Shaw know how democracy works? How do you lose so much support and become part of a government?

    And to prove the point of how low Liebore were, they ended up at only 37% with all those extra votes they gathered.

        So an extra roughly 200k people turned out to vote. So yep, National’s percentage dropped slightly but as a 4th term election the increase in real votes is without precedent.
        
        350,000 extra votes is staggering.
        
        It’s only staggering if you’re referring to the level of incompetence of Labour in 2014 (and nothing changed in 2017 except the Leader (again)).
        
        Take out the 100k the Green’s lost and you get a 250k gain, which isn’t staggering at all for a 4th shot at the title (which they still lost!).
        
        If anything is actually staggering it’s where did the conservative vote go? 95k votes and they didn’t go to NZFirst (who lost 20k votes) and it didn’t go to National…

Understand in the Parliament Building that shit is hitting the fan for the Greens.
Internal distress is obvious and hell hath no fury as some of their employees, from previous Parliament are scorned, and not getting the munificence they think they deserve.
They lost a number of seats so they only get a smaller number of staff.

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu and President-Elect Trump both rejected the Islamic state Egypt’s draft resolution and it was withdrawn.

All bad apart from Auckland. Fault lies with central and local govt.
Stephen is the CEO of Infrastructure NZ – has been for 12 years.
No information that I heard as to what Infrastructure NZ does or has done to remedy this terrible state of affairs. What’s the point of them – just highly paid report writers are they?

  Lately, every day someone on GD gets up on their Bitcoin soapbox. It seems we may be stuck in an echo chamber. “How much time can reasonably be spent in once place, writing about a currency they think is going to fail, yet continues to succeed beyond anyone’s expectation?” (Rochard). In the case of Kiwiblog GD, it’s been over 4 years. As you pointed out EAD, ever since “Wikiwhiris Business” first tipped Bitcoin and got downticked and mocked for it.
  At the risk of sounding like I am equally as stuck in a pro-Bitcoin echo-chamber, I’d like to offer some thoughts.

  Second. The whole reason Bitcoin was created was not to get rich. It’s single purpose and goal is to render fiat worthless. Full stop. Which is a misnomer because fiat already is worthless, but let’s put that aside.
  Bitcoin is not money, nor was it meant to be transactional. Volatility (the “bubble” everyone likes to talk about) is caused mainly by people adopting it for speculation and dumping it when it gets overbought. The actual price is bitcoin’s economic use, which is growing, but slower. It’s a “slow bleed” over time. Once adoption reaches a point where bitcoin can be used for every day transactions, its volatility should greatly subside, since there won’t be much speculating left to do. (Mises – fb)

  When you advise people to “hold tight [to your fiat]”, you’re essentially putting all their trust and faith in a centralised monopoly that has repeatedly proven itself to be very un-trustworthy. In bitcoin, you put your faith and trust in the blockchain – which is to say mathematics and technology.
  Actually, it’s fiat(s) that may end up being over inflated and replaced by crypto. That is, remember, the goal of bitcoin.

Bitcoin just appears to me to have little actual value, and I just get the sense that a lot of people are going to get horribly burned as a result.

  New large suburbs have been built to accommodate more and more families arriving, many immigrants, into greater Tauranga.
  Prices were good but not so sure now.
  But there are pockets of the old unknown parts where old families still live, and where factions still take umbrage about being overlooked by the TOW.
  Why anybody wants to live in a total sand liquefaction area, which is subject to Tsunami, is beyond belief – but there is a buck to be made, but may be coming to a halt quite quickly as we will see soon.

  Lyn Grove as about the last of the cross lease small sections with trailerable houses built on. Was a very down area for a few years until Royal Palm Beach was built next door. That dragged the prices north and so out went most of the riff raff. Still the cheapest part of town so rentals get a bit of rubbish.
  
  Like everywhere though there are good people interspersed. Scum everywhere now that HNZ doesn’t own any houses here. Be careful who you rent to.

      I know Wickliffe’s history; but this is the argument I have with DG and you.
      If we are going to release crims back into society after they have served their time, then for all our sakes we have to ensure they can attempt to carve out a decent existence for themselves without endangering the lives of more folks.
      
      I can read all the sociological/psychological stuff about why people offend and how we can rehabilitate them and I know much of this stuff is being written by folks who have no idea of the life that crims have led or lead.
      
      What I don’t get to read/digest are the views of folks who have been there, done that and have got their lives back onto a decent track.
      (Wickliffe probably hasn’t; but our double killer seems to have).
      
      I’m not a crim hugger; but I’m sick of reading the views of do-gooders who haven’t got a clue.

        Maggy, like DG I put victims ahead of vicious criminal or former criminals. I remember very well the case of Gay Oakes. At the time I was involved with a fathers’ group. I met with her victim’s brother and sister. I got a photocopy of the trial transcript.
        
        Without going into details Oakes was not the victim she portrayed. There was violence but it was two way.
        
        A jury heard the full facts and found her guilty murder not manslaughter as it was very much premeditated.
        
        One of her conditions of parole was that she was not to comment publicly about her her version of events either in writing or at public meetings.
        The family of her victim deserved this.
        
        I watched most of the Darkland serious. I am certainly aware that very few if any had a good upbringing.
        
        I believe in free association. I cannot see myself wanting to associate with convicted violent criminals or kiddy fiddlers. I also do not want to associate with people who are known criminals or gang members. However, I should not be stopped from doing so.
        
        This is a different story for those on parole and in some cases for those who have completed their parole. The victims and their families have a life sentence.
        
        It is crim hugger flipper who has the sick mind when he refers to parole conditions as post release punishment.
        
        The double killer you refer to may not likely kill again but those who argue Lundy’s innocence have a truly sick mind.

  I knew the boy he killed. He was a good kid, and a promising apprentice watch maker/jeweller – one with real prospects.
  
  Wickliffe took his life and is now subject to life parole.
  
  I would rather Wickliffe earned his bread (if any) by writing about his life than sucking on the State, or engaging in more crime. Post release punishment is the product of sick minds.

The implosion of the coalition is underway, starting with the Green Party:

A letter from disgruntled Green Party staff to its MPs has revealed complaints of low morale, bad communication and unfair treatment.

It highlights how difficult the party has found the transition into government, with a greatly reduced caucus and managing new ministerial responsibilities.

The Green Party has always prided itself on its tikanga, campaigning strongly on workers rights, speaking frequently at union events and describing work as “being valued and valuing each other”.

However the letter reveals staff are unhappy with the way they’ve been treated since the party has become part of the government.

RNZ understands there has been a push from senior party staff to hire external people for key advisor roles. There was some pushback, with one minister, Julie Anne Genter, going against the directive and hiring existing staff.

The letter makes it clear that some staff also took exception with the processes and some were left with the “distinct impression they were not valued” or that they had “defects” in their work.

He was the one that left a vacuum which allowed the rise of Isis. He was the one who said that Isis was not a problem, they were like a junior varsity basketball team. He was the one who finally sent troops back to Iraq to try and solve the problem he created when he withdrew all of the troops out of Iraq.

  The current president of the United States on the other hand is the one who promised that he would bomb the hell out of Isis and he did so. The current president is the one who gave military command back to the military commanders and told them to beat Isis and win the war. The current president is the one who allowed the military commanders to hugely increase the number of airstrikes and the weight and vigour of military action. Rather than just moving Isis from place to place the tactics changed to destroying the Isis fighters where they were.
  
  The current president should be given great plaudits for actually winning the war and defeating Isis. Unfortunately we have a mainstream media that always goes with the bad and so they will not give the current president any credit for anything.

There are several examples of losing two, but those guys seemed to get them message after that.
Maybe our electoral system has bred a contender for the Guinness record book, or at least a contender for “THE BIGGEST LOSER” of 2017.

A kid misses out on dux because he studied harder subjects such as physics and calculus, while as the winner studied media studies and drama. The kid is calling for the more difficult subjects to be given more weight.

And keying off that Swedish story and it’s comment that the news being… new to many is more a reflection of what media pays attention to., there’s this comment from Leftie Glenn Greenwald – not without his own problems in the distant past, sock-puppets and all, but he nails the disaster of a day the US MSM had last Friday:

FRIDAY WAS ONE of the most embarrassing days for the U.S. media in quite a long time. The humiliation orgy was kicked off by CNN, with MSNBC and CBS close behind, with countless pundits, commentators and operatives joining the party throughout the day. By the end of the day, it was clear that several of the nation’s largest and most influential news outlets had spread an explosive but completely false news story to millions of people, while refusing to provide any explanation of how it happened.

It’s impossible to convey with words what a spectacularly devastating scoop CNN believed it had, so it’s necessary to watch it for yourself to see the tone of excitement, breathlessness and gravity the network conveyed as they clearly believed they were delivering a near-fatal blow to the Trump/Russia collusion story.

here was just one small problem with this story: it was fundamentally false, in the most embarrassing way possible. Hours after CNN broadcast its story – and then hyped it over and over and over – the Washington Post reported that CNN got the key fact of the story wrong.

Actually it was also MSNBC and several others that lept all over the story with equal “breathlessness”, which just made it worse.

What I’d like to see – and probably will not – is any MSM questions about the sources for the story, because they had to be Democrat politicians or advisors who had been briefed by Congress “in secret” and multiple sources got the date wrong. One source would have been an accident (Sep 14, not Sep 4). Multiple sources means deliberate collusion to feed the MSM and profit by it. In the past journalists would burn a source who deliberately mislead them, but not now apparently – because they’re in bed with the Democrat Party.

I’ll leave the final word to Greenwald:

So continually awful and misleading has this reporting been that even Vladimir Putin’s most devoted critics – such as Russian expatriate Masha Gessen, oppositional Russian journalists, and anti-Kremlin liberal activists in Moscow – are constantly warning that the U.S. media’s unhinged, ignorant, paranoid reporting on Russia is harming their cause in all sorts of ways, in the process destroying the credibility of the U.S. media in the eyes of Putin’s opposition.

Normally I’d finish one of these pieces with Delenda est MSM or Die, MSM. Die – but they’re circling the drain perfectly well by themselves.

Wonder how our MSM covered this – especially RNZ?

  Well, if they included coverage of what Greenwald said, they should add that he typically runs interference on the Russia story and pushes Kremlin propaganda. He will inflate the importance of anything that shows the Russia story to be incorrect and stay silent on what is damning. He’s far worse than the MSM as there is an intelligence behind what he says, with a definite goal in mind.

The missus and I are not entirely ‘ collectively miserable’ though. Having funded our kids through tertiary eduction, we set up a trust fund years ago to do the same for our grandkids. The first one has just been accepted to one of the higher cost and longer degree courses. Which will put them on track to be among the very best paid professionals in this country.

Along come these dumb arse commo muddlers and in one stroke of their pen free up a chunky amount of capital for us to lavishly blow on mindless consumerism.

A brilliantly conceived subsidy from middle NZ to the richly deserving 10 percenters. More poverdy for them, more prosperedy for us.

One wonders at the level of achievement required to obtain a Nobel prize these days? I would have presumed you would be nominated on an achievements or at the very least a contribution to the idea of “peace” in this particular instance.. International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), have won the Nobel prize for peace. Now, with the current dilemma the western world has with a certain rotund North Korean and substantial (albeit less than 40 years ago) western nuclear arms you would ask the question, what exactly have this group done to achieve abolishing any nuclear weapons at all? My submission would be, not a single confirmed abolishment of any type of Nuclear weapon. I am but a layman in such subjects but if they have managed to abolish Nuclear weapons what the hell went wrong in North Korea?

They are nothing more than another sink-hole for guilt based charity from concerned wealthy actors and sympathetic governments trying to look good while diverting attention from their own growing stockpiles. It’s BS of the first order and the Nobel organisation should be re-thinking their qualifications for nomination. /rant over :-/

1. I have no view as to whether Lundy is Guilty or innocent. But what if you were in Lundy’s position for something that YOU believed to be untrue…. ???
2. I have no view as to whether Watson is guilty or innocent
3. Until the Privy Council issued its denunciation of our system, I took no interest in, nor developed any view, on Teina Pora.
4. I did take a close interest in the Thomas case because one the Commissioners (Peter Gordon) told me details that made my hair stand on end. He did so after they had made their findings and were considering the matter of compensation.
5. Moreover, I did also take note when Rob Muldoon related to me his “non” discussion with McGregor J (retd).
6. I did fight, in , my own small way, to help Banksie when he was unjustly found guilty by the very questionable Wylie J. And the C o A backed Banks, costing Mike Heron his immediate chance of a Judicial appointment.
7 I do support the formation and proper resourcing of a Criminal Cases Review Commission.
8. I did support the quest by David Bain for proper compensation, and in view of the recent HC (CoA?) decision on Pora …… well, best to put that to bed.

NOW dickhead Chucky, or the medieval William of Ockham, or the Lignocaine Kid pilot, or whatever you are tonight, if that makes me a crim hugger…tough shit. So eat that and die, painfully, you germ ridden toerag.

    a. Have no analytical ability.
    b. Have insufficient intelligence to enable you to do more than parrot left wing slogans
    c. Have not read the decision of the Court of Appeal on the duplicitous Crown actions against J Banks
    d. Are NOT interested in honest justice,
    and
    e. Cannot tell the difference between a paternity scam, made years and years after an alleged event – you know, like all the sexual assault claims in the US after 20/30/40 years – and something made now.
