      You are right Stephie, sadly most of NZ Muslims are just not joining the global Jyhad and not really doing their part.
      But we’ve had some kiwi Muslims travel to fight in Syria, rape the local infidel women and do a lot of other small things to support the Global Islamist movement.
      Sadly not as much as our Australian brothers and sisters, I agree.

        But a Muslim does pray five times and if they have a radical Imam they will hate anything Christians do. I do wonder though with the prevalence of mobiles how many of the ‘faithful’ scan for texts while head down, bum up? The whole prayer regime to me is a total sham, and is no different from the Hitler Youth daily radicalisation. The fact that Australia is suffering from Islamic problems can be traced right back to a compliant government.

      No, and that is the point. We see those admonishments as being of their time and have moved on. Many Muslims cannot adapt their thinking to the modern world and are stuck in a time warp of bows and arrows and horses and carts.

        What do you mean “adapt”? That is a very worrying word.
        
        Organisms (including humans) adapt to their environments. That does not mean they change to become like others in the environment (ie. Mulslims becoming Westerners). It means they change their behaviour to thrive in the new environment.
        
        For example our NZ Imam who says stoning is great, but not here. All he really means by that is that he would stone here too if he could get away with it.
        
        Another example are the almost-exclusively-Muslim rape gangs in Uk who have found a bunch of vulnerable girls to prey on and have “adapted” very well to the new opportunity.
        
        This is, of course, encouraged in the Quoran.

        RR: We know from former Labour MP Ashraf Choudray that the “correct” punishment for adultery and homosexuality is stoning and death respectively… It must be correct because it says so in the Koran…He said so on TV…Then added the ridiculous rider that those punishments didn’t apply in New Zealand. She was just doing what is clearly written in black and white in the most sacred book of the Muslim religion. And I quote – “strike the infidel in the neck wherever you find him.”

      Kings is not new Testiment tho.
      Do you know anything about the Christians religion. I’m not sure what the word is but Old Testiment has been abrigated. So basically it more a historical document of how people and God used to be. New Testiment is the on the Christians actually follow in terms of moral guidance and behavior.

        Closest I’ve ever found is the imprecation passages against (non-Christian-believing) Jews who were instrumental in the persecution of the early Church. Hence Saul/Paul, a Jew who later writes favourably of the place of Jews in God’s economy in Romans chapter 9 to 11, comforted Gentile Christian believers with the words:
        
        14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews 15 who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone 16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last….5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well.         With imprecation, the idea is that those who must passively endure persecution are comforted with the knowledge it will be avenged…by God.
        
        There is similar imprecation against God’s enemies in the New Testament Revelation/Apocalypse, including a reference to a synagogue as “synagogue of Satan”. Such passages were subsequently used as a justification for persecuting Jews during the time of Christendom. I’d suggest it is a post hoc fallacy to blame the passages in Thessalonians, as the New Testament is written to a persecuted minority who have no interest in political power, who only want the freedom to preach and practice their religion free of sttae and religious persecution, and who have no design on confronting Caesar, occupying his throne, or upsetting the existing social order including slavery. The picture of the New Testament is of a persecuted minority, who are also expecting Jesus Christ to return and set up his Kingdom at any moment – hence there is no need to act as God’s instrument of judgement – Christ himself is going to do it any day himself.

        The heretic Marcion, the first to propose a New Testament canon argued so. However, the orthodox Christian response is…progressive revelation. God revealed himself to his people, Israel and then latterly the Gentiles in progressive stages, depending on the development of his people and their readiness. Hence the economy by which he ruled them also developed from a tribal structure to kingship and the addition of institutions such as prophets, priesthood, and the adaptation of the cult from a simple tabernacle to the temples of Solomon, Zerubbabel and Herod.
        
        As the corporate people of Israel are integral to the biblical revelation on both Old and New Testaments, the very nature of the revelation takes time, Hence Abraham is not given the fullness, as he is the beginning point of the formation of a holy nation. Same with the other patriarchs, Moses, David, the prophets, and finally to Christ and the Apostles.
        
        As per Christ himself when confronted over the matter of why the Torah allowed divorce yet he seems to abrogate the legally-sanctioned adultery of his day (and there are parallels with the casuistic way how Isalm practices divorce/legalised adultery today – human nature doesn’t change! 😉 )
        
        1 When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. 2 Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.
        
        3 Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

        is the same rationale why abolitionists campaigned against slavery. It is not abrogated as such in the New Testament, yet it is rightly viewed as antithetical to God’s final economy.

        Probably the most violent imprecatory prayer passage in the Scriptures is in the Old Testament, Psalm 137, made famous by Boney M as “By the rivers of Babylon”. Again, it is to comfort a dispossessed and weak people with the knowledge that God will one day end their affliction, and punish their enemies. That may contain the seeds of resistance and on-going religious war in the future. Nonetheless, that is not the immediate purpose of the imprecation, so it is different category to the biblical temporal one-off passages to slay Amalekites and other Canaanite tribes in the Conquest of the promised land…or the Koran’s injunction to wage continual jihad.

        when we remembered Zion.
        2 There on the poplars
        we hung our harps,

        That undoubtedly happened too. But you seem to be setting up what could well be a false dichotomy. Why not both-and? God reveals himself progressively to his special people Israel and their understanding of God, and also that of pagan Gentiles develops too. (The heretic Pharaoh Akhenaten doesn’t seem to have been an absolute monotheist, more one wanting to rearrange the Egyptian pantheon.

        True, that presupposes the existence of God. Nonetheless, Israel seem to have been unique in the Ancient Near East in regards to her monotheism. Although, initially that seems to be practical and later absolute. The Patriarchs and even Moses may know of other ‘gods’, but courtesy of the election via the patriarchs and the Exodus and giving of the Torah, Yahweh is the only one with whom they have to deal. Indeed, unlike the cyclical nature of pagan deities who are the embodiment of natural forces, Yahweh intervenes in history on Israel’s behalf. Only later, at the time of the Babylonian captivity does that Jewish monotheism become absolute – the wood and stone idols of the pagans are nothing but wood and stone.

        Yep. For some reason Christian fundamentalists have no problem eating shell fish or swine’s flesh, but when Leviticus proscribes certain sexual behaviour it is still applicable. Indeed it should be the civil law of the land!

        Just to clarify, and for the sake of Kimbo’s kick-ass quiz team accuracy, the last book of the Christian canon is the “Apocalypse/Revelation (of Jesus Christ”). His future coming is the primary emphasis, not the plural “revelations” of dramatic events which accompany that fact, which the writer unveils in a sort of written picture gallery – and on which the ghoulish tend to focus.
        
        Yes, for some, known as Dispensational Pre-Millennialists, the Revelation, and other Old and New Testament texts function as a Nostradamus-like prediction book. Personally, in line with orthodox Calvinism, I am an A-Millennialist (some are Post-Millennialists which I’ll discuss in a minute). Christ will return suddenly, and without the ticking off of a bunch of prophecies. Hence, also, while I doubt there is any eschatological significance to the formation of the modern state of Israel, I still think Israel, like any nation deserves and must exist and must have the right to defend herself. Nonetheless, like other nations she is accountable to modern international law, so the West bank, taken in conquest, is not hers to annx by stealth and increment. is a matter of justice, and that is something which should concern all Christians.
        
        Pre-Millennial Dispensationalism developed in the 19th Century, partly as a response to skepticism. The rationale is apologetic: “The Bible must be true….just look at all these fulfilled prophecies in it”. And with the formation of the modern state of Israel in 1948, and the capture of Jerusalem in 1967 helped push the ideology.
        
        The other two millennial views are historic Pre-Millinnialism (Christ will return to set up his 1,000 year reign without the cartoonish prediction fulfillment of the Dispensationalists) and Post-Millennialism which is a more intense version of Amillnnialism. Christ’s (figurative) 1000 year reign began when he ascended to heaven, and since then his kingdom grows. Hence the abolitionism, social reform and prohibition of the 19th and early 20th Centuries are examples American post-Millinnialism – social interventions that will assist in the formation of the Kingdom of God, over which Christ is ultimately in control. Cromwell’s New Model Army of the English Civil War were also predominantly Post-Millenialists. fighting a godless tyrannical king who was an agent of Popish Arminianism and unjust taxes, with the hope of installing a godly government.

        I’m of the view that like any book with multiple genres, the Scriptures should be interpreted literally when the authorial intent indicates it is literal, and figuratively when the authorial intent indicates it is figurative. And knowing the difference is where the really hard, but fun work begins…with each and every passage and book in the canon! 😉 Hence the need for good literary tools, and accessing the fruits of the science of archaeology so we understand the context in which passages and books were written. Is the basic lesson of the Reformers – the plain sense (not allegorical – unless the text itself indicates such) is that which is authoritative.
        
        Hence I am suspicious of the hermeneutic of both fundamentalists who insist it the bible is literal, or liberals who insist it is figurative. For example, I think I’ve shown in my discussions with Scott here on Kiwiblog that he is not a consistent literalist when it comes to the creation accounts in Genesis. You insist this was 6,000 years ago and in six literal days and it should be taught as a text in the public school science curriculum? OK. so by that hermeneutical principle the “firmament” heavens/sky of Genesis 1:6-8 must be a literal polished metal dome holding back “the waters above) over a flat disk earth on pillars that God created in the midst of dark primordial waters. Or maybe, just maybe, God was using the existing cosmology of the Ancient Near East to explain his purposes to Israel, so it is theological, not scientific – although the resulting ethics may have something to say to science, and philosophy, and economics, and agriculture, and economics, and government, and…
        
        Same with the eschatological passages like the Revelation. The ultimate message, originally given to a church that was severely persecuted for failing to participate in the Roman-emperor cult (hence it has great relevance whenever the church is persecuted by an anti-Christ be it Caesar, Mohammedism, the Popes of the Counter-Reformation, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, ISIS…)
        
        …is that Christ reigns, his kingdom is without end, he will return one day in the same manner in which he ascended to heaven to consummate that kingdom. In the meantime, Christians are to be about his business, planning as if he will mot return for many centuries, but living like he will come tomorrow. If nothing else, Christianity is a first century Jewish apocalyptic cult, awaiting the dramatic in-breaking of God’s eternal kingdom into history. 😉

        The Revelation, SGA, not Revelations. 😉 Best analogy I can give for how to interpret Revelation is this, the greatest piece of art of the 20th Century:

        You look at it and you know it is about suffering, pain, torment, evil. And those themes are timeless. But unless you knew the artist was Pablo Picasso painting in response to the destruction of the village of Guernica in 1937 by the Fascists during the Spanish Civil War you miss the original focused intent. hence the desire for “application” may be too hasty, misdirected and misapplied.
        
        The Apocalypse/Revelation was an already existing genre (Jewish apocalyptic) written primarily to give comfort to the seven persecuted churches of Asia Minor in approximately 96AD. Any revelation of the future, including any supposed timetable for the arrival Christ’s eternal kingdom is secondary. There are some internal clues ow those are to be interpreted, and it is right to “let the text speak” when discovering those, rather than poring over a newspaper reporting latest events in the Middle East! Ultimately the text of the Apocalypse/Revelation was written to them, not to us, but it is for us.

The current government is focusing a lot of attention on workers and their pay. And has begun to focus on skills through inter alia free tertiary fees, its announced policies of levies on employers to pay for (re)training / upskilling, careers advisers in every secondary school….

The latter initiatives are apparently in response to the changes in work mainly due to technology advances, that is automation. Though some changes are just as likely to create a tsunami of media and art history graduates entering the job market.

Meantime a report out this week from Bain and Co US business consultants says – productivity well up, jobs well down, wage growth depressed, increased income /wealth inequality. I guess Mr Robertson is not planning to be around that long.

Rising Productivity Solves One Problem…but Creates Another

Faced with a rising scarcity of labor, companies and investors are likely to draw increasingly on automation technologies, which, in turn, would boost labor productivity by an average of 30 percent, compared with 2015, with rising impact over time.

But to grow, economies need demand to match rising output. Bain’s analysis shows automation is likely to push output potential far ahead of demand potential. In the base case scenario, the rapid spread of automation may eliminate as many as 20 percent to 25 percent of current jobs—equivalent to 40 million displaced workers—and depress wage growth for many more workers.

The benefits of automation will likely flow to only about 20 percent of workers—primarily highly compensated, highly skilled workers—as well as to the owners of capital. The growing scarcity of highly skilled workers may push their incomes even higher relative to lesser skilled workers. As a result, automation has the potential to significantly increase income inequality and, by extension, wealth inequality.

  It seemed to be a beat-up. The article didn’t provide any of the messages content or who initiated contact. Which suggests it is all innocent. Personally I like the idea of an MP willing to engage with constiuents in the way they want to. I think its a case of parents being concerned about their children’s social media behaviour than anything else. Especially in light of Kim Dotcom trawling through his social media followers and inviting the attractive ones on dates immediately after his marriage breakup. I said I would comment on why Kim Dotcom’s Megaupload operation breached copyright law. This is especially pertinent as a commenter argued it merely a file sharing platform like Youtube etc. While that may be one has to dig deeper. A Sergeant Schultz ‘I see nothing’ type argument does not wash. Youtube etc must have mechanisms for dealing with child porn and other objectionable material (eg how to make bombs) otherwise they will be in serious trouble with authorities, risk blacklisting and turn away advertisers and clients. They need processes to remove such material as it comes to their attention, prevent the same material being uploaded again and probably need to be proactive as well. Megaupload had such processes to avoid the possibility of facing serious criminal charges.
Megaupload’s business model was to reward people who uploaded material while charging people to download the material. Limited free access was provided to enable client to sample the wares. Megaupload ‘intended’ that uploaders would upload material they had created but as a starting point was not concerned as to the origin of the material (as long as it was not child porn or similarly ‘objectionable’).
In practice different users would upload the same material meaning there was duplication of material on the servers which required additional server capacity and Megaupload dealt with this inefficiency by having one copy on the servers but using multiple links to that one copy. Now this alone should have indicated that there was potential breach of copyright since with most genuine material there would be little upload duplication.
When copyright owners became aware of such material on Megaupload they would issue a ‘take down’ notice specifying the delinquent material and its link. Megaupload would respond by taking down that link and advising the owner the material had been removed. When Megaupload was asked why it did not remove all the affected links, the response was that it was technically impossible. However as the FBI pointed out, Megaupload could obliterate all links pointing to a child porn upload, therefore it was capable of obliterating all links to material subject to a ‘take down’ notice. However Megaupload’s practical business model would be fatally damaged if it had to remove all such links, hence the reluctance to do total ‘take downs’ of copyright material.
At this point it was abundantly clear that Megaupload was virtually a ‘knowing’ party to serious copyright breach meaning those involved could face serious criminal sanctions. By trying to claim $7B for the ‘destruction’ of Megaupload, Kim has further confirmed his association with the illegal Megaupload operation. Now, Megaupload would not have been anywhere near as profitable if it did not carry material such as blockbuster movies in breach of copyright law. At most Megaupload might have been worth a few million, but nowhere near $7B. Kim is just dreaming with his $7B claim.

    Well, these legitimate users can always sue Uncle Sam directly for their losses. It is stretching credibility that somehow the New Zealand government was responsible for these legitimate users losing their data on servers situated on USA soil. Even if Kim did ‘win’ some or all his $7B, I doubt he would be in any hurry to compensate these legitimate users.
    If users are going to entrust valuable data to the ‘cloud’ they should either keep their own backups or do proper due diligence on the proposed ‘cloud’ provider. Megaupload would not have passed the ‘sniff’ test and even if it did initially, should have taken steps to protect their data when it became apparent that Megaupload was dealing with material such as blockbuster movies meaning it could attract attention from the authorities.

    Trying to argue about words is generally irrelevant. All three phases – uploading, downloading and storage are unlawful with respect to copyright material. And it is not a defence to a charge of (say) illegal downloading just because the uploader could be charged. Although the Feds could have tried to identify the uploaders and downloaders, it is not worth the effort – far better to go for the one who facilitates the illegality ie the one who provides the storage. This is more so when the one who provided the storage made the money – Kim would not made the obscene amounts out of Megaupload if it stuck to legitimate business only.
    In any case promoters of dubious schemes (including tax avoidance schemes) have relied on ‘black letter’ interpretation of the law to justify their schemes but courts in NZ, USA and elsewhere are now interpreting the law in a more purposeful way and are drawing on other interpretation aids rather than just nit-picking over the actual words.

  Extradition is a political process, and labour is intent on reinstating some sanity into the judicial system.
  In New Zealand the penalty for Dotcom would be light at worst, whereas the Americans like prodigiously long sentences for infractions. This alone means extradition is a political impossibility.

    While extradition may be ‘political’ NZ needs to take account of comity between nations to retain international sanity. It could be that NZ may need to seek the extradition of a serious offender from USA and there would be general outrage if a person accused of murder was not extradited. The ‘political’ side normally comes into play where NZ would seek an assurance that the person being extradited would not be subject to execution, whipping, etc.
    The most pragmatic way with dealing with Kim would be to let him slip out of NZ, even if it does upset Uncle Sam.

  believed that the drop was due to copyright infringement. During a 5-day period in September of 2009, JM estimated that more than 65% of the
  software registrations were unpaid, copyright-infringing activations.

    Thanks for that. The Megaupload business was rather like ‘whack a mole’, as soon as you whack one mole (ie link), more moles appear. It would be virtually impossible for an aggrieved copyright holder to have all links taken down simultaneously as there would be one or more dormant links unknown to the copyright holder. Hence providing new links to replace ‘taken down’ ones would be rather trivial (could earn a trivial download credit for the person).
    The JM instance and others like it (Peter Jackson’s people would be aware of similar situations) means there is a serious case for denying any future citizenship to Kim. It also indicates that the responsible Minister needs to leave his political hat off when considering signing off any extradition order but then Labour probably owe Kim favours arising out of the 2014 election campaign.

        He doesn’t need to worry about Tuvalu sinking its barely above sea level. Too many people are physically crushing the island spoiling drinking water as well. Tides make crops in salt water laden “land” difficult. King tides go straight over the top. Toileting is difficult too in a closed lagoon. (I once had a job offer there.)
        
        The area gained is barely significant at the waters edge. The whole place is unfit for human habitation. Climate change is irrelevant. See google views for how bad it is.
        
        Most of Kiriabti live on Tuvalu.

        In Tuvalu, changing sea levels have caused increased accretion of sand in some areas. So, effectively the land has risen.
        
        Other areas in Tuvalu which have not benefited from the sand accretion, have lost surface area due to rising seas.
        
        Of course, people like you will scurrilously cherry pick facts to suit your argument.
        
        I’m of the opinion that evidence currently suggests anthroprogenic global warming is happening. . . if evidence changes , then I’ll go with that but you need peer reviewed research!

  We see this same line trotted out wrt acidification killing off mussel farms etc.
  
  Yet somehow, bivalves (shellfish – pretty much indistinguishable from what we have today) flourished in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic periods etc. We know this due to the very healthy fossil records from that period.
  
  During those periods there were CO2 levels over three times what they are now.
  
  And fossil records show that corals thrived during the Triassic period when CO2 was over 2000 ppm – more than 5 times what it is now.
  
  It is true that many bivalve and coral species died out at the end of the Triassic, but why? There has obviously been speculation about the high CO2 levels but that’s where the research money is.
  
  If it takes 2000 ppm to kill off corals and bivalves, well we’re still a very long way away from that.

    They claim this would be cheaper than current energy, because they burden current energy with extra: hidden costs, environmental costs etc.
    
    ie. they are likely jacking up the cost of “dirty” electricity to, say, $1-2 per kWh to be able to make their numbers work.
    
    That is a bullshit thing to do. Cheap energy is what keeps people alive. $1-2 kWh (or even $0.5 kWh) energy costs would wipe out at least half the world’s population – especially brown people.
    
    So if killing brown people is the goal then no wonder Obama is such a leftie saint: the first US Prez to bomb brown people every day of his two terms – and also get a Nobel for it too!

  It is a good question. Taxing CO2 is the last thing we should consider as it will not work.
  
  There would probably be a range of measures to reduce CO2.
  
  Scrubbing CO2 from the atmosphere will ultimately be part of the solution. There is already research into carbon negative power plants.
  
  And, reducing CO2 emissions themselves . The move to electric cars will help (assuming they will draw power from carbon negative generation systems).
  
  But, I’m not an expert in the field, there is probably some quite advanced research in progress.

    US backed Kurds cleared ISIS from around Afrin and are now being attacked by the Russian backed NATO member Turks.
    
    Israel has been supporting Sunni terrorists on its borders against Assad in an effort to keep the Shia backed Assad mob at a distance . That’s what the shot down F16 is about , Israel now has Iran closing on its borders.

      If that’s every report you have seen Kowtow, you are reading the wrong ones.
      Try http://www.southfront.org and also google “live map syria”. You have to be careful of the spin of course, but these inescapably show the geography very well, especially if you follow the movements of armies over time.
      Undoubtedly the Syrian Army fight against ISIS across the desert from Palmyra to Deir Ezzor last year and down to Al Burkmal was an epic.
      Check out the ISIS territory say one year ago, and again two years ago. Not the same as now by a huge margin.

Schiff tried to be smart and include some intelligence methods and sources knowing they would have to be redacted –then he could say Trump censored his memo. So on legal advice Trump has sent it back to the DNC to get it right. Then he will release it.

  What is more interesting is the release of a significantly less redacted memo from the Senate investigation into the same area that confirms that the Steele Doosier was the key to obtaining FISA approval to conduct surveillance of Carter Page and through him of the Trump campaign in the lead up to the election and beyond.
  
  Now which is it you anti-Trumpers ?
  
  1. The Dossier info is real, from Russian sources, and at least in part True; or
  
  2. The Dossier is NOT from Russian sources.

The “humanist” institutes in Belgium and the “social justice” institutes in Canada are indeed simultaneously running the same campaign on transgenderism, euthanasia, and sexual consent.
        
        I know my tone is deeply antagonistic, but that’s on purpose to cut through the conditioning.

It also becomes my business when David Seymour claims that depression would automatically exclude someone from euthanasia under his bill, when it is almost a carbon copy of the Belgian one, where a 29 year old depressive has just been euthanised, because she was tired of living.

  Agree Digmen1. I never ever watch TV ‘live’; I record what I want to watch beforehand and TBH I don’t tend to watch any of my recordings every day, so often I have to delete stuff without having watched it to free up space.
  
  The stuff I end up watching is usually from Choice TV, which is often intelligent, well produced mindfood, compared to the utter dross that is constantly spewed out from TVNZ and that other failed operation that competes with them to capture the intellectually handicapped viewing market.

    The fundamentals are a long way from good in the US. The stock market rose in the expectation of corporate tax cuts as the additional free cash flow will find its way into dividends and share buy backs. The focus now is on the bond market. The catalyst for the sell off was probably the 400 billion spending package as well as the increase in incomes . Coupled with the tax cuts there is now a requirement for new debt issuance of 1.5 trillion in each of the next two years.The ten year yield has risen about 50% from its lows and there is concern about who is going to buy that debt and what yield they will demand, especially as the Fed reduces its balance sheet.We could easily see 4% on the ten year within 12 months. That will cause big losses on bond portfolios as well as big increases in interest rates and further declines in US stocks.
    
    There was some squaring of positions late on Friday but the medium term trend is more likely to be down than up.

    It’s a casino and you don’t know who is betting or how! If you have money owing for shares or have a margined position watch out: your broker may sell you out without warning. The house is a player also but you will never prove that they took advantage.
    
    Value is completely ignored. It’s all about money movement and attempting to bet on that. This cannot continue as amongst others it does not reward savers so pension funds and insurance companies cannot provide nor can those needing the income for their survival. The fundamentals of economics have been temporarily suspended.
    
    Also the historical relationships about the yield gap can only be thwarted by BIG players piling in money to enhance their own games. Ultimately the yield on long term government bonds and the dividend yield on an index like the S&P will be become equal. Why should more risky shares have a lesser return than govt. securities when the market is at the bottom?
    Value has historically been measured by the earnings generated from assets and shows up in the PE ratio or its inverse the EY. These are out or order at present. Only a hardened “trader” should be in this “market”. The game may continue for sometime yet but indications are sufficient people have borrowed on the “strength” of the market to be at risk and are becoming less able to continue that way. Now the FED is wanting some of its money back that is putting pressure on.

  I get that your 401K is likely hurting, but if you’re in good funds (and you SHOULD check what they’ve been up to and what they do in the next few weeks in terms of rebalancing), the good managers will pick up quality sticks low, so that when the markets come up again (but not massively bull like it was from mid-2016 to now, which was bubble-like) … the good managed funds will rise along with their solid acquisitions. I have a lot of skin in this market as a majority of my retirement savings are, likewise; invested in the market.
  
  Also as Manolo said, the fundamentals are good (altho, I am *slightly* worried about the bond yields rising so sharply – bodes badly for interest-rate rises, and I have a big mortgage!)

  But Johnboy so many overlook how much quieter modern cars are inside thanks to many advances and improvements. While sound systems have also advanced to reproduce remarkable music at higher levels. It is so much easier to loose complete touch with how fast the vehicle is going. Add to that that more people just cannot NEVER NOT react to their mobile devices when the make a sound.

I agree. My impression is that Gayford is an attention seeker and generally bit of an arrogant prick.

He obviously blew it with that other chick (strayed is my guess), who is way hotter than Ardern. But he can’t stay away from the spotlight so sweet talked his way into Jacinda. I bet he seemed so understanding about the pressures of being a public figure blah blah. She doesn’t strike me as being very savvy with the blokes.

My money is on him bolting in a year or two but hope not for the kid’s sake. It could also make Jacinda crack, which wouldn’t be good for the country.

Interesting that the Catholic Bishops have asked their members to write to the select Committee against the Euthanasia Bill. Maybe they should have offered some advice before the election as Jacindarella made it quite clear she was supporting policies that most Catholics would be at odds with. I have real concerns that this bunch of Muppets running the show are going to produce a Bill that is watertight around abuse. Legalising murder is always very complicated.

  I had left over cold corned beef and weetbix.,separately, for breakfast. A fried “ham steak” with cooked tinned tomatoes and fried old potato for lunch. For dinner a meat portion awaits. I’m thriving. Diet food too and proven healthy. 5+ cups of coffee a day with milk but no sugar helps.

  Meanwhile, real income was placed into tax-sheltered investments such as 401K or simple investment income (max = 15% tax rate), a bit like Warren Buffet, all of who’s income is from investments – so max 15% rate of tax!

        There was a time in Wellington (about mid 70s) when the Traffic Dept completely lost the plot & became control freaks. They were really bad & the Lower Hutt City Council had their own Traffic control which were worse.
        
        As a lowly truck driver taking stock to the Ngauranga abattoir I was used to their attitudes. Not so Sir Bob who took on one of the bastards who numbered amongst the top brass & won.

So Winston is looking at a enquiry into the dealing with DotCom and the previous Government, he said it won’t be at the present but will work out how to do it at a later date. I wonder if all the inuendo and rumours of Peters visit to the mansion might be true and this was to be part of his reward in his quest to rid National from NZ Politics.

Multiculturists are calling the shots in Southland.

Immigration NZ will send up to almost 150 Colombian refugees to the southern region over the next 18 months. The upper and lower levels of Colombia’s parliament have approved a peace deal with the insurgents after the Colombian people in October 2016 a plebiscite rejected an earlier deal.

In other words, peace is just about a done deal.

Susan Morrison-Bailey, a communities adviser of Venture Southland, a local-body funded hype organisation, is reported in the Southland Times as calling for ways to make the refugees welcome.

She says Southland is aware that the region and its culture are changing.

What isn’t said, is that multiculturists and their ilk are more out to remould Southland, NZ, and Western culture rather than reacting to change.

What isn’t said is that chain migration, with newcomers bringing in extended families who bring in extended families, will quite strongly magnify refugee inflow.

On the other hand …

Perhaps Southlanders feel lucky they are not having imposed on them Muslim gatecrashers from Manus Island.

Perhaps Southlanders are also confident that cool Southland will be a temporary stop for refugees from hot Colombia while they await residency qualification that will enable them to move through the back door into warm Australia.

But luckily they are probably Christian Colonbians and may have some hot women, as well as a few trained drug dealers and trained killers.
