        I rarely agree with itstricky much, but he’s quite right on music. It almost defines what makes “American Music” different is the contribution from black, American, musicians – and this traces to a variety of musical roots.
        
        That’s not to say that there haven’t been famous non-black American musicians, some of whom also contributed significantly, but blacks have contributed well out of proportion to their numbers.

      They use a “tweaked” page ranking algorithm that is very tweaked to reflect their biases.
      
      Type in “american inventors” and you get a heavily slanted row of pictures mainly of pretty obscure inventors.
      
      Note this row of pictures is not a part of the normal search algorithm. It is a tweaked “add on”.

        If I Google “usa inventors” or “united states inventors”, I get very different results.
        
        You only have to think about why you get the results and rankings you get, based on the terms you used, for more than two seconds to think at least a couple of reasons as to what might be going on. Just like “white couples” above.

      I disagree with it being “inappropriate” for Easter. How is a group of women raising money for a cancer ward in a local hospital non-Christian?       So, it seems like:
      
      (a) “white couples” may not give you what you expect, but it the results are entirely relevant and in line with the search terms used;
      
      (b) similarly, “american inventors” may not give you what you expect, but the results are entirely relevant and in line with the search terms used;
      
      (c) “american musicians” gives you exactly what you expect; and
      
      (d) there are no doodles of terrorist Muslims.

Did you know “listen” and “silent” use the same letters? Do you also know that the words race car spelled backwards still spells “race car?” And that “eat” is the only word that if you take the first letter and move it to the last, it spells its past tense “ate?” And have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters in “illegal immigrants,” and add just a few more letters, it spells: “Go home you free-loading, benefit-grabbing, resource-sucking, baby-making, non-English-speaking arseholes and take those other hairy-faced, sandal-wearing, bomb-making, camel-riding, goat-shagging, raggedy-ass bastards with you.”

The Easter road toll has tripled from last year to six. Sadly two of those were very young children, a 2-year-old and his six-month-old brother on the Desert Road.

You can’t legislate this stuff away. It’s always going to happen when everyone piles on the road to rush off for a few days holidays.

But it’s all Ok because of apartheid or something…

      What a moronic statement. Kiwibog did not exist at the time of the end of apartheid, so how could people here have “confidently predicted” it.
      
      Those that were expecting civil war at the time thought the Mkonto We Sizwe (ANC armed wing) were actually going to be the “freedom fighters” they said they were. If they had, there would have been something more akin to civil war.
      
      Instead the MK was just a bunch of thugs out to kill other black people in a black-on-black struggle for post-apartheid rule.
      
      I could have understood the MK taking up arms against whites (Afrikaners in particular) as part of an “armed struggle” against apartheid but they did not. They only made a very small number of attacks on the white government/population.
      
      They did, however, commit thousands of killings of other black people. For every white that was killed, dozens of black people got shot, stabbed or necklaced.
      
      Notice that all of Winnie Mandela’s victims were black. She can’t be said to have been doing this as part of the struggle against apartheid.

      Try to remember, it would have lasted a lot longer, without F.W. deKlerk, the other recipient of the peace prize and the actual person responsible for ending Apartheid. After all he was the president that relinquished power, released Mandella so that apartheid could end.

  We need 340 runs in a day that should be a half hour longer than regular…but the test has averaged just over 240 runs a day… so its a 40% step up in scoring rate for us to win it.

  Forget the runs. Bat out time. We only bat down to no. 7. A series win, be it 1-0 or 2-0 is still a series win. Scoring 341 in aday, let alone on the last one, against bowlers of the calibre of Anderson and Broad, with another new ball due just before tea? Nope. They wont even be considering it, and nor should they IMHO.
  
  Instead, it will be a case of playing every ball on its merits, avoiding loose shots but not being so defensive the batsmen don’t play their own game or surrender the initiative to the bowlers. If we are still there by the end of play, then we will have scored about another 200 or so runs.
  
  For fans of limited over cricket this is going to be a borefest. But for the true cricket tragics and purists, this is why we watch test cricket.

        Maybe. Just take it over by over. If, when we began batting yesterday with some three hours of scheduled play left in the day, and you had said you will be only two wickets down at this stage
        
        …you would have thought, on balance, the two sides were even. Just needs two of Latham, Taylor, or Nicholls and Watling to come to form a partnership. Once you get in and negotiate the new ball, there is bugger all in the pitch to get you out, even against the left arm spinner if they use good technique and shot selection. Instead it is more likely to be loss of concentration.
        
        But once three of them go, and the tail gets in (including Southee who has no technique to play a defensive inning so) then I wouldn’t give much for our chances. So need to get to tea with our tail still protected. But that is hours away. First target is seeing off Broad and Anderson in this spell, then drinks at 11:30AM, then…

        However, the leader of a political party needs to be very careful to hold all the disparate threads together if they are to rally the great unwashed to their cause.
        I think Corbyn has lost control of some key threads.

      Agreed Kimbo, claiming that all adherents believe the same things and act in the same way is bigotry – and I have tried at all times and for years now to not to fall into that trap. (A pity JAG hasn’t tried the same! 🙂 )
      
      But I don’t think the hypothetical question was a distraction however.
      
      We have a political party in government right now who want to bring in 4,000 mostly Muslim ‘refugees’ ANNUALLY, exponentially increased by more through family reunification.
      
      What would happen if this went on for the next 20 years or more? This could result in hundreds of thousands of adherents arriving within just a generation – unquestionably significantly altering our society.
      
      We must discuss the wisdom of this as a society. I argue it is unwise – at the very least no-one can predict this willl end well for us and at worst it could result in major social upheaval and the threatening of a lot of what we hold dear.
      
      And I won’t be called an ‘Islamophobe’ for thinking it either.

All government policy, including immigration numbers and selection criteria, should be subject to ongoing public scrutiny, debate and criticism.

  Pray do tell how marvelous the pacific people have been for NZ. How many are on welfare, how many commit crimes, how many in jails, how many unemployed, how many require state housing, how many are illegal overstayers, how many send their children to school shoeless and hungry? Look I fully realise that there are many pacific island people doing really well, wonderful parents, educated etc, etc, but I also know that the percentage not doing well is very high. The Stuff site tells us that our Easter trading laws are making NZers ‘manic’. Interesting to be in Germany at present where the Easter trading laws are far more restrictive than ours (probably in France, Austria and Switzerland as well) and yet the general German population seems to to remain extremely well-balanced and capable of leading normal lives over Easter.

Perhaps the problem is not with the Easter trading laws but the sad, empty lives of those kiwis who cannot cope with a day or two when they can’t troll the shopping malls and exercise their ‘right’ to practise their dreary retail therapy.

I have a great deal of sympathy for business owners who would love a bit of rest and relaxation too. We all survived perfectly well when shops were closed all weekend. What the residents say….
“You’ve got the loud music – and it’s really loud. No one’s sleeping; everyone’s calling the police and noise control.”

What the council says…
“Aside from this request, we have not received any complaints or been made aware of any other issues in relation to the park.”

So, multiple residents have been calling council about noise every weekend since christmas, yet council says they have not received any complaints???

Councils suck at enforcing noise control. We had rowdy neighbours once. Took over 6 months of complaining every weekend to finally get council to do something.

A British news item 2 days ago regarding 4 of the British fighters who went to Syria as part of the Jihad. One of them, “Jihadi John” is dead but the others, now captured after taking part in the murders of 37 beheadings want to return to England for their trial. They say the beheadings were “regrettable”.

Britain does not want them back on their soil and has revoked their citizenship. Hold the trial in a shit hole country where the death penalty is on the law books. Best solution for these scum.

Nelson hospital is calling for Korona to change their bottle cap design after 3 people were admitted for serious eye damage.

The hospital needs to educate themselves and look at those patients to change their stupid behaviour. If you are going to use your eye socket as a bottle opener then it is nobody’s fault but their own. Darwin award recipients. ?

* People who were convicted for not paying their TV licenses?

No. I won’t feel sorry for her. The Labour Party took the equivalent of a mediocre beauty pageant contestant and very deliberately conned the NZ public into thinking that her ‘wish list’ was both viable government policy and that they were committed to it.

They equally either seem to have conned her into believing that and/or she very deliberately chose to believe it and, supposedly ‘nobly’, go along with it. If she didn’t know just how baseless their claims to be a competent government were, it’s further proof that she was totally non-viable as a PM.

To try to claim that she wasn’t really willing to become PM and it happened ‘by accident’ is a ridiculous caricature of our governance and those involved.

It’s very clear that this ‘government’ is completely inept, has no ethics or integrity, have no consensus, or even appropriate communication. They are making the NZ government, and the position of Prime Minister, an international caricature of those things. Heaven knows what harm they will do but they certainly started at the lowest level with children – and the ‘standards’ they are setting for social behaviour on every level are in the gutter.

Whether she ‘wanted’ to be there or not, she not only agreed to be, she remains there willingly.

She is an adult, fully able to make a decision, and the decision itself is more obvious than those they claim are totally within the scope of powerless, vulnerable children.

Simon Bridges hints at more trouble to come for Clare Curran:

When he was in government, senior Opposition members had called for resignations “every other day”. “I don’t want to do that. I want to save it for appropriately serious cases. But be clear, she is in trouble here.

“There has been a cover up that she’s been very involved in. It does involve a lot of taxpayers money and quite big changes in broadcasting, and so we do want to get to the bottom of it,” Bridges said.

“I think what’s so concerning here is the cover up, that it’s taken Parliament – effectively the Opposition – teasing this out to get to the bottom of it. I don’t think we still have actually, and you will see more of it this week.

Bridges, Melissa Lee and National have played this well. Jacinda Ardern last week threw her lot in with Clare Curran, so the target is not just Curran any more, it’s the whole government.

It would not surprise me at all if a Breach of Privilege complaint against Curran is lodged this week for misleading Parliament. I suspect that Ms Lee already has far more information than has already been disclosed, and that she already knew the answers to the questions she asked last week.

Ardern had the opportunity to cut Curran loose last week, but didn’t take it. I suspect she is going to regret that decision.

  Williamson had to try and keep the flow of English runs to a minimum in both innings, as there was still the possibility of bowling them out cheaply in the first innings, and again in the third innings for a total that left us with a chaseable target. And the problem with any leg spinner is that while they are attacking weapons, they are more expensive.
  
  In contrast, Root doesn’t have to worry about conceding runs now. So he can bowl his left arm orthodox bowler (who are usually more conomical than leg spinners, btw) to his heart’s content, while looking for reverse swing at the other end.
  
  Plus it is now the last day of the test, when spinners come into the play, and why you must always include one in NZ pitch conditions, in case you need to bowl the opposition out when they are batting last. If the positions were reversed, Williamson would almost certainly be bowling Sodhi, rather than the economical stock seam option of de Grandhomme.

    Bargaining Fees. Non-union members pay a fee as either a lump sum or percentage of their total salary/hourly rates to offset ‘free-loading’. Non Union members gain by Union activities in collective bargaining. Thus it is entirely fair all non-union members pay a fee to the unions. Union leaders need their jet-skis.
    
    This will sink Labour. They can talk crap about higher wages yada yada yada but when they go to implement bargaining fees which is essentially a tax to pay themselves the normies will understand what’s happening.

        I wouldn’t confuse a tactical battle in the field in Syria with the political/strategic dimension between Trump & Putin.
        
        Trump insults people left, right and centre. But he is obsequious to Putin. He has to be dragged screaming into any punitive action against Russia (witness the recent sanctions decisions, and the expulsion of diplomats).
        
        I’m not keen on isolationism per se. But I don’t think you stand up to a Hitler or Putin by appeasement. It might be a good thing for the US and Russian Presidents to meet. But in Trump’s case I fear it is just his opportunity to receive his instructions from his handler.

A) A not be contacting the “witnesses” (for want of a better word).
– or at least –
B) If she really must contact him, then do it using above board and well documented communications channels such as an official letter that goes on file. Using unofficial channels such as phone calls and voice mail are not appropriate where she is now.

Specifically, it emerged that Delamere had approved permanent residency for a group of Chinese businessmen provided they invested generously in various Maori development schemes. Delamere was widely criticised for using his authority to ensure that money was given to certain groups. Delamere himself claimed that his actions were a perfectly reasonable method of addressing Maori development needs. Although he lost the immigration portfolio, he retained his other roles.

    Yep. And cricket is a funny game because the luck evens up. I remember we all but beat them at Lords in 1994 when Dion Nash got 10 wickets and a fifty, and Crowe got a ton…but bad light on the last day thwarted us when they were 8 down.
    
    And I was at Eden Park 5 years ago, on the last day when we had to bowl them out to win the series. The ball hit Matt Prior’s stumps but didn’t dislodge a bail, and then (admittedly with Kane Williamson’s bent arm darts) we go two late wickets, and got the last man Monty Panesar in for the last few overs…and an inside edge just missed the stumps and they held on for a draw.

      The difference between ‘coloured person’ and ‘person of colour’ is roughly similar to the difference between ‘hack lawyer’ and ‘lawyer of hack’.
      But, to put it in terms that even a lawyer might understand, it is a conscious effort to refer to persons as persons first of all, with other characteristics being secondary. So, person with a disability rather than disabled person or cripple. Or person with a short arse syndrome rather than angry midget lawyer.

    DG there was considerable chat about this last year around election time – lots of hypothesizing – but based on reasonable rumours at the time.
    
    The substance was never made clear, but I formed the opinion it was VC from the nature of the chatter. There have also been a number of references to a certain legal issue having been bumped down the list, and the suggestion of high level influence in making that happen.
    
    There was also a question raised at the time of the Pacific Holiday about whether somebody would be permitted to leave the country.
    
    Your sources have obviously heard something today – I have asked mine and they have not.

China has ordered State-owned lending institutions to stop lending to local authorities, with the exception of funds for buying State bonds.

The South China Morning Post says this is a blunt message intended to dissolve the marriage between banks and local governments, the nexus in China’s debt-fuelled growth model.

The State controls the Chinese banking system. Eleven private banks set up in a pilot programme that began in 2014 have assets in total less than 0.1 per cent (that is, one-thousandth) of the total assets of China’s State banks.

The South China Morning Post reported that State banks have been told to check the registered capital of projects sponsored by local authorities, to appraise borrowers’ real repayment capabilities, and not to accept local governments’ guarantees for repayment or return.

Every year I get thousands of decisions decisions with the state of Israel and the citizens of Israel

From time to time, a decision has to be considered.

In the last hours I have held many consultations with the minister of the interior lion deri, with professionals and with representatives of the people of South Tel Aviv.

I’ve heard a lot of notes on the agreement. After that, and after I conducted a renewed balance of the pros and cons, I decided to cancel the agreement.
