I wonder which industry Cruella de Vil and the Coalition of Clowns is going to hammer today? Hillary speaking on a Monday night shows our relative importance. Couldn’t even time it for a Tues for Wednesdays papers. Smacks of: “Doesn’t give a toss”, but will try anything to get some oxygen back home.

        Correct. Land, Air, Water Aotearoa (LAWA) put out a report less than a month ago that showed that more rivers had improved in quality in the last 10 years.

        Yet i heard a person running a talkback show on Newstalk ZB Putting the verbal boot into the Dairy Farmers and supporting the vile David Parker with her .Her comments were even more vitriol than Parkers.
        The same person who got dumped from TV3 for going off at the mouth has now re-appeared on NewstalkZB.
        That radio channel owned by NZME might take an advertising hit if the type of manure comments coming out of the mouth of the person known as HDPA against the Dairy Farmers is anything to go on ,will not be a good look on their balance sheets.
        HDPA who lives in a multi million dollar property in Wellingtons Oriental Bay sounds like the NZs farming community are virtually eco terrorists,is an indictment of what happens when someone like her is allowed to speak so much shit and lies and gets away with such dirty mouth comments.
        If that happened in France .It would not be long if Comments like HDPA was broadcasting, were acted on her desire to rid NZs of Many Dairy cowsand their poos,a few truck loads of poos could be delivered to her address with the Farming Communities Compliments.

        I heard HDPA reading out some texts earlier. One said towns/cities polluted rivers as well. She said bollocks, dairy farms are much worse .
        Well perhaps HDPA can explain the numerous “don’t swim” warnings and closed beaches around Auckland over the summer. Are there dairy farms in Queen St now?
        Interesting how dairy farms are the target and no mention of other farms.

      Jacinda has been sounding-off about youth suicide for months. Youth suicide is a tragedy but what about the higher rates of suicide amongst farmers? Farmers are lashed by townies and the idiot Greens on more or less a daily basis and somehow Jacinda remains silent. The burdens of running a farm are huge and demanding, without pig-ignorant enviro-loons and politicans mouthing off about how bad all farmers are. This level of negativity must compound to weaken farmers’ morale and sense of place in NZ society.

        There will be not a shred of sympathy, not a single thought spared for farmers. They’re generations removed from the land and have no feel for it. They’ve rarely seen a sunrise, never nursed a lamb or calf back from the brink or sat with an accountant trying to juggle the figures to just get through the quarter.
        
        We also need to remember at all times that there is virtually not a one within this coalition who understands the “market” or the private sector. They are statists to the core, have no idea what it’s like to put yourself and your family’s future on the line. No idea about the business of risk. They have never stood in our shoes, let alone a cow dung. They’re as ignorant as it’s possible to be.

        There are farms in our area that will be in serious trouble if Labour bring in their restrictions. These are farms that have been in the family for years.
        
        I pray that the families receive support and don’t get pushed to the brink where suicide is the only option.

Where do these morons and greenies think our foreign earnings come from? I just cannot see their end game – unless their endgame is collapse of the economy.         Chris, believe it or not, the highest youth suicide rates in Auckland & NZ are in the ECB/Hibiscus Coast & Rodney areas. This was from the local youth suicide support group at a fund raiser at the Puhoi pub 18 months ago. The issue of affluent families, lack of parental interest in the family, pressure to succeed, easy access to material benefits etc. It is not an easy issue to deal with, but it is not an issue of lower socio economic groups so much. So, seems Cindy is barking off without understanding, what is new?

        Youth suicide is being fostered by this govt. The greens have been putting the fear of Gaia into the youth for years. I have had to re-indoctrinate my children against their schooled fears.

      Plus RWC the riparian plantings of native trees along waterways which have a higher uptake of nitrogen to grow better from what would not only contaminate the rivers but be wasted by run off. It is mostly a localised effort from farmer and local bodies at substantial cost but with already measurable results. So far ahead of the nothing done by Labour before who struggled to even attempt to set initial limits. They always show they care retrospectively.

      What is the point of all our supposed FTA’s when we aren’t going to have anything left to trade. Why would dairy farmers want to change to crops when a whole years work can be wiped out overnight, not to mention the fertilizers and insecticides those crops need. I wish Labour would just pack up and go home.
      
      I also wonder about whether the Mycoplasmabovis was introduced by the cow hating Greens on purpose.

    I spent the weekend in the provinces, and there are emerging disturbing signs that some of the mycoplasma bovis outbreaks on dairy farms are the handiwork of hard-left Greenie eco terrorists. The wholesale slaughter of dairy herds is the result the Greens want, and it seems there are no depths they won’t sink to if it helps achieve their goal. If true, this is economic sabotage on a colossal scale.
    
    The cynical Labour/Green politics at the last election of driving a wedge between urban and rural voters (along with many other identity groups) appears may have resulted in the most socially destructive government NZ has ever seen.

        CL – that discussion was under the Chatham House rule.
        
        But I can say: in the past there had been a number of nocturnal visitors on the diary farm in question, but mysteriously no rustling, vandalism, petrol thefts, MikeKing-type guerilla expose, or marijuana cultivation etc…then, an MB outbreak. The outbreak is notified, but the local farmers have circled the wagons (and have their suspects) but do not trust the authorities. I strongly suspect any future local outbreaks will not be notified.

        WW and many of the other farms that had stocked killed, are still awaiting compensation.
        Now the talk is that compensation is to be cut back.
        
        Makes one wonder, will farmers, even people in other industries, want to stay under the radar, when problems arise.
        
        Another way to the 3rd world.
        Not if but when, will foot and mouth strike, and why would you get a vet informer, when you may just humanely dispose of the cow, and hope that the problem goes away, or cash the farm before the deeper trouble strikes.

        Sad to say you may be right.
        
        The people I feel most sorry for are share milkers, young people, usually with families, borrowed much to make a start, as they are dependent on the health and value of their cows.
        
        There are inherent problems in the hidden stages of the disease, that make it difficult to contain.
        I figure the ministry may not know everything, but nor are they explaining as much, nor taking on board possibilities that farmers may propose.
        
        All farmers do not want this disease!
        They will do what it takes, so long as practical knowledge, education is shared, so that practical things may reduce the spread.
        
        Can they live with it? It does seem costly when it strikes a cow down, and no treatment. I would like to know what % of cows do become infected.
        
        It is difficult to know it the Ministry are on the right track, with this massive kill, as the disease can hide out for 3-4 years.
        One plus is that dairy farms can through bulk milk tests quickly find a herd/farm, then reduce down to just the +ive cows. But will not pick up the hidden carriers, that later become contagious.
        
        Not sure how it will go if and already now, in parts of the beef industry.
        One plus is that making prime beef usually is done within 2-3 years old, except for breeding cows.
        Would have to be more individual cow testing, maybe in part to fit in with TB testing that is in some parts of the country.
        Also the test may take longer to do than TB testing.
        
        Hopefully at this stage the herd numbers affected are low, testing can be done, and if promptly done to cull, just maybe, maybe we could eradicate this disease.
        
        Secure our borders, in relation to importing semen, eggs, and foetus’s, and new animals.

        ‘Stay under the radar’. Yes, the whole point of compensation was to encourage farmers to report disease quickly and deal with it thoroughly.
        
        Not saying their aren’t many who will report even if it basically costs them their livelihood, but it will just take a few who don’t report to sink this country.

        I can remember that dairy farmers were going to be compensated for having their infected herd of cows culled.
        
        On Friday I heard Damien OConnor stating on News Talk ZB that he expected the farmers would have to contribute 40% to 50% of the total cost. Thus the compensation could be as little as 50%.
        
        This will ruin some farmers but hey… labour does not give a rats arse about them.

    I read where the new farming “expert” Parker says there could restriction of the number of cattle per hectare.
    How is he going to do that –inspect every farm, soil test it in some way and them get out his abacus to get the magic number ?
    It would be meaningless and impossible to come up with a number that is applicable to all farms –even for farms in a district.
    He said horticulture is better ? If it was more economical people would have been converting years ago (like with kiwifruit) . But economics has nothing to do with Parker’s world.

        Horticulture is much more risky than stock. Cows don’t die from unexpected frosts, and don’t bruise from unexpected hail. And they don’t need an army of cheap labour to harvest. The labour needs to be cheap because, while being happy to pay $3.00 for a bottle of water, most wont pay 50c for an apricot or apple.
        Parker is an idiot. Land and soil types are not the same and different fruit requires different soil. Apricots for instance need deep, moisture retentive, well-drained, slightly alkaline soils and struggle in poor, shallow and acidic soils.
        Growing grass is much easier.

        Parker went on and on about wanting it to be ‘fair’ on Nat Radio this morning: that it wasn’t fair that some dairy farms were highly developed and others, many Maori owned, still needed to develop.
        
        This has very little to do with clean rivers. Instead, I see two things:
        
        1. The Greens want much more horticulture, because they would like us to become vegans and don’t like animal farming.
        2. Labour are going for the zero-sum theory again: make more developed dairy farms poorer and worth less, and magically Maori owned farms can then develop and enrich the owners.
        
        The fact that it takes a lot of money to properly fence, plant and protect rivers wasn’t even mentioned.

      Parker and the rest of the govt are incompetent fools. NZ did not elect a govt of that ilk. We expect a govt to be able to govern according to its social contract. We have had no notice of such enormous changes proposed and they have not been reviewed. There is no mandate for such drastic change.
      
      This govt has no right to impose what will it may.
      We need urgent action for a new election–possibly instigated through the legal system.
      
      Someone has to be in charge we cannot have a govt that has no responsibility to the people. They do not own us we own them.

        I think you’ll find that ‘we own them’ is a discussion going on all around the world in ‘modern democracies, and that ‘the people’ had no idea they have lost democracy almost in entirety.
        
        Modern ‘democracy’ is specifically based on ignoring ‘the will of the majority’. Parliament is comprised of ‘representatives’ who do what is ‘good for the people’ in their opinion. They are not ‘delegates’ who carry out the will of the people.
        
        That’s precisely what is happening in the UK over Brexit – and throughout the EU. People who claim that Parliaments are supposed to enact the ‘will of the people’ are nasty ‘populists’ who are trying to implement ‘tyranny’ of the majority.
        
        The current Secretary-General of the UN classifies such ‘populism’ as on the same continuum but at the opposite extreme of it as ISIS – and says it must be just as purposely ‘fought’ and ‘eradicated’. Don’t ask for a ‘quote’ source. I watched/listened to him personally in his acceptance speech of his appointment – on Al Jazeera.

        Have a look at the Magna Carta and its historical surrounds. The Imperial Laws Application Act, 1988 re-affirms the key principal of everyone in NZ being equal before the sovereign.
        Monarchs have lost their heads for seeking to hold power beyond control. I cannot concede to Parliament having monarchical power. We have a non resident monarch and representative here. But we have no practical way to deal with a rogue govt. Three years is a long time when economic damage is being inflicted without mandate. Govt can never have a mandate for what it is not competent to carry out–that is negligence in high places. A duty of care is implied for a govt in respect of it’s people. Ideology puts that aside presuming that no review or prudence is required: the issues being settled by prior fixed principles. Govt of the people is not possible that way, only dictatorship. Without the exercise of a duty of care there can be no mandate and no govt.
        
        My “own them” reflects their duty to us not to themselves.

        I agree with you KevOB.
        
        We’re all in a very dangerous place without democracy. You can see it around the world with the rioting against elections or outcomes of elections. Parliaments no longer act on the will of the people – and consequently, any group in society considers that they have the right to get their own way, by any means necessary, based on nothing but simply taking and using power.
        
        They claim that if they’re elected, voters have ‘approved’ them as having superior judgement on anything/everything. We’re not electing ‘representatives’ who enact the will of the people – we’re electing temporary parental ‘guardians’ who impose their ideology on us for three years at a time. And they are all ‘rogue’, with no accountability, the MSM having assumed the same rights to ‘power’ and ‘rule’.
        
        It’s ironic because that makes it no different to Russia, the ME, or any other undemocratic state. The increasing rioting isn’t any different either.
        A violent response is becoming more normalised every day; if not violence, social disruption. There is no social contract agreed anymore.
        
        It’s bizarre that it needs to be done – but it’s time that the whole subject of what democracy means became an overt topic of discussion. Now that is something I would like to see NZ ‘lead the world’ in – and hopefully a return to and respect for real democracy.

    Well during the election, and negotiations they ‘backed down’ on the irrigation scam to tax farmers to death… And Peters was there to proclaim himself the rightous defender of rural NZ….
    
    Well guess what, their new anti-fertilization scam, is just another way to drive the farmers to bankruptcy, this time not by increasing their costs, but by attacking their revenue stream, by pushing down crop yields and pushing down the number of cattle….
    
    What was it last week, it was the Gas and Oil industry that was destroyed, this week it will be Cows and the week after that it will be vegetables and fruit? No wonder the Australian Economy is in the shithouse after 3 or so years of that same crap we are just now experiencing from Jullia Guillard who was also, suprise suprise, Secreteriat of the australian Socialist orgranization!
    
    She said she was only the secretary(iat) which FYI is a pretty high position and has nothing to do with being a receptionist or answering phones or organizing meetings… And even that would be a high position….

      That to hinder and reduce compensation, will push many to go under the radar.
      So that when signs do not look good, then sell all your live stock, immediately, maybe even the farm !
      
      Nurseries would have bargain sales for plants even though they may have quietly disposed of all other possible infected plants. Maybe sell the business too.
      
      A supermarket will dispose of some dubious fruit or vege, infection, then just special sales/discounts for the rest and avoid a shut down.
      A bit more problematic with staff, but then they also would risk losing a job either way.
      
      Just take the money, before the damage becomes wide spread.
      
      People try to do the right things, and usually need some support where there can be major personal costs involved.
      Compensation is not winning lotto. It will only get you back to where you are, usually in combination with a lot of time and work.

Argentina has had to lift interest rates to 40% to halt a run on the Peso. Inflation is running at around 25%. One of the major causes of this high inflation rate? Spending more than they were taking in causing the world’s capital markets to lose confidence Argentinian debt.

They fell into trap that when times were good they spent spent spent. Then things go south and they can’t turn off the taps as people have come to expect the handouts.

The best answer I can find is that the Governor of the Island requires the approval of the British Secretary of State before assenting to any bill that affects “the currency of the Falkland Islands or relating to the issue of banknotes” or any bill that establishes “any banking association or altering the constitution, rights or duties of any such association”

        The Governor of the Falkland Islands at the time of the Argie invasion was a Foreign Office staffer and it was envisaged that he would assist with an orderly transition of the Islands to the Argies. However after being in the job for a while and realising at first hand the implications for the locals he ‘turned native’ and persuaded Maggie Thatcher to break off progress on letting the Argies take over. He remained a lifelong friend and advocate of the Falkland Islanders. Hence the Islanders no doubt accept benign control by the UK.
        
        As far as Falkland Islands currency is concerned, its regulation by the Foreign office would no doubt be in coordination with the Bank of England so its currency would be on a similar basis to the banknotes issued by the Scottish banks. It is no doubt easier for the locals to virtually adopt the UKP than have to set up a ‘Reserve Bank’ and risk the currency being fiddled. The integrity of its currency would be very important for trade etc.

      Her Majesty has been on the throne for a very long time and the advent of decimal currency meant the replacement of banknotes and coins.
      I suspect there would be no sudden change of banknotes and coins when Prince Charles ascends to the Monarchy. In any case the Reserve Bank changes out the banknotes each decade or so to ones with enhanced security features and so the next due change would probably coincide with the change of monarchy.

      Prior to our switch to decimal currency in the 1960s I recall coins featuring George V and George VI from when NZ first issued its own currency in 1933 but there was plenty of Brit currency in circulation in NZ as well dating back to Queen Victoria.
      
      I recall a lucky find in my change from the bus driver back in the early 60s when I spotted what I thought was dodgy sixpence but on closer inspection turned out to be a Victorian half sovereign. How that got to be there God only knows as they had not been legal tender for years.

Simon Bridges was animated and doing well this morning as he scoffed at Stuart Nash’s announcement of his intention to smash the gangs by targeting their benefit fraud. Saying Nash is instead back-tracking on his promised 1800 police, and Andrew Little wanting to go soft on prisoners. He says Nash “will get rumbled by the guys and girls above him” meaning his senior colleagues will have other ideas about getting tough on criminal gangs. Simon also went after Labours announcement on eliminating homelessness but having no new solutions.

  So much for the rule of law, presumption of innocence and private property rights, and now the same lieing criminal nazi police state scum are saying, ‘we can’t actually prosecute them for any of their ‘crimes’ so we are going to find or make something up’ because well obviously they are guilty…
  
  If they are so obviously guilty, take that evidence that you have to court and prosecute them, because honestly, its not up to the minister of the police, or the police commissioner or any member of the police or cabinet to say whether someone is or is not guilty, that is a legal matter for the courts!
  
  What is alarming however is the police commisioners interference in the NZ political sphere with his comments about Arderns boyfriend, and with his comments before the election against national, and of course the planting of evidence in the Crewe case (and presumably against many others who were ‘clearly guilty’, and just generally speaking the lack of actual crime fighting, the same dairies getting repetedly robbed, the same trains being tagged again and again, and the same people throwing rocks from the same bridges…. And what do the police do, nothing, no prosecutions, but they will plant evidence on motorcyclists who are ‘clearly’ guilty….
  
  Or ‘boy racers’ who are just normal joes going to a car meet, on the public roads, maybe parking in a public or paid car park in tauranga… Ofcourse its upto the state to decide who deserves this sort of police attention…
  
  We have a big problem in this country in regards to the corruption in the state, and the police force, and the complete lack of accountability and rule of law, the real benefit fraudsters like Metiria Turei who unlike those ‘gang members’ (motorcycle club members) has actually confessed on tv to her crimes and is therefore actually clearly guilty!

      Well Winston First has always said he wants a ‘better’ exchange rate, the problem is that economically this has been debunked, its the same BS behind printing money, the same pricinipal.
      
      Basically the logic is that you need to print or depreciate your currency at an exponentially greater rate to maintain over the medium term the gains in productivity, which is generated by the suppression of real wages, as people catch on they insist wages go up to restore their buying power after all their productivity hasn’t changed…
      
      And everything reverts to the one-price rule, that being with most comodities being world priced, that those world traded commodities are all ‘one price’ the world market price…. Essentially there is no magical printing press, no mythical ‘low exchange rate’ these have no impact on output or productivity or competitiveness over any meaningfull timeframe….
      
      It didn’t make venezuella more competitive, it didn’t make the UK or EU or any other country debasing their monetary supply and trying to lower their exchange rates more competitive…. Their is no emperical evidence to support the lower exchange rate = more competitiveness conspiracy theory…

        However HR the COL have managed to effect a slump in the NZ$ since the O&G announcement with the obvious impact on the “poor” people being seen with $0.02 per litre increase today at the pump for fuel. Interesting too that all fuel companies have all moved their prices by the same amount as the dollar pauses at the $0.70 plateau ahead of the budget perhaps. It is funny how quick a 20ft container drains it’s 26,000 litres when the bladder inside springs a leak.         Look Newstalk ZB isn’t perfect, from my experience 99% of their hosts are nutters, and that is inline with the rest of the mainstream media. However, and there is a big however;
        
        The difference is that News Talk ZB under a private company like NZME has far less of an incentive to be a pure propaganda outlet for the deep state. The difference is that whilst (with the exception of the fantastic mike hosking) 99% of their hosts are nutters, they have a mixture of far left nutters, and some moderately less far left wingers. You simply don’t get that type of balance with state media!
        
        And the best presenter in this country is on the best time slot, and he is there because of merit, just like Paul Henry in his prime was there on merit, untill he got fired over political BS…. Similarly out of the blue after the election Mike Hosking ‘left’ 7 Sharp….
        
        Point is that perhaps National Should have replaced the board, management and middle-management of RNZ and TVNZ, moved them away from their political activism towards that off a comercial orientation like NewstalkZB, where there would be at least some balance, and then privatised them… They could have done that whilst TVNZ was actually worth something…
        
        Now its a convinient excuse for them to keep their mouts shut, and I don’t like that, because excuses are just lies told to justify innaction.

  Can’t argue with your second sentence, but the inference seems to be that all tenants are ratbags, which is obviously not the case.
  There’s several houses around my neighbourhood that have been sitting empty for reason or other.
  I rented out my house for years while I lived abroad and always had good tenants. Never made much from the rent by the time management & maintenance was taken into account. I can understand people leaving a place untenanted.
  I read the other day the government has no intention of taxing empty houses so expect a tax to be announced in the budget.

  A friend of mine, many years ago, decided on Budget day that booze tax would be put up. He went to one of the wholesalers (this was back in the 1960’s) and stocked up with everything he could afford. When he came to the counter he was asked if he worked for the Government. Answering yes he was then asked whether he worked for the Government Printing Office. I never did find out how long it took him to drink it all. The tax wasn’t put up that year so it was all in vain.

    This might be of interest:
    
    Many, many years ago, when newly married and on a ‘getting to know my wife’s family’ excursion, I had occasion to call in on one of the ‘new’ sisters in law; a solo mum with a (then) three year old, living in a rental in country. She was a nice lady, but something bothered me about the child. I said nowt, trying to work what what was bugging me. I couldn’t, until it suddenly clicked; At three years of age the child had no ‘baby’ teeth!! A quiet word to my wife later confirmed that I wasn’t wrong; apparently the child’s ‘baby’ teeth had all rotted-out and those that had survived, were all subsequently removed because of excessive decay, leaving it literally toothless. And the cause? The numerous 2 litre bottles of Fanta which lay around in large numbers, and which had been fed to the child from a very early age! The larger ‘Family’ knew about it and thought it ‘cute’ and of no cause for concern…
    
    The mother wasn’t bothered; the soft-drink ‘pacified’ the child and also filled its stomach; what was there not to like? It was also ‘cheap’ (when compared to milk) and easily obtaineable. Besides which ‘The Little one Liked it’ (which was not exactly surprising…).
    
    Not ‘ignorant’ per se’ but to to the Mum, an entirely practical solution to a problem (And one she could afford). ‘Must needs’ and all that.
    
    It should be noted BTW that as an adult, said child DID / DOES retain all their teeth, although how the ‘adult’ set survived in such an environment is still a cause for wonder…

        Of course they are aware. Show me one parent in the whole of NZ that has not been told about this – likely countless times by health workers, pamphlets, etc etc etc.
        
        The same for STDs, smoking, obesity and other health problems that impact more prevalently on the less successful members of society.
        
        Everyone knows that smoking is harmful. Everyone knows what condoms are for.

      Well not just about proving people are Criminals in court as opposed to making up some BS and planting evidence and the like to get a guilty conviction because they are ‘obviously guilty’ or ‘those capitalists pigs deserve to be in prison’!
      
      Also peoples property should not be seized under some BS pretense like the Proceeds of Crimes Act, if they haven’t actually been charged for those crimes for which the money/property was allegedly aquired!
      
      Its the same BS pretense, ‘well we know he is clearly guilty of something to have such property, so you know what, we are going to freeze all his assets, then when they can’t afford lawyers, we will take them to court and just take everything’… And the judges go along with this becuase they are also public servants with the same corrupt mentality…
      
      There is a good case I shall link below that I believe emphasizes that, in addition to the head-hunters person (who despite not being convicted of any crimes, and despite no plans to charge him with crimes, evident by the fact they are resorting to benefit fraud, they seized his property…).
      
      In the case below there was a farm-hand, who accrued money that according to the state they could not adequately explain. Now ok, fair enough there is an issue with that, but it’s not a crime, unless it is Money Laundering under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Act, but they were not charged under that act, also that would I believe be an issue first and foremost for the Tax Department…
      
      The Tax Department should have contacted them and asked them to explain, then filed legal proceedings, because they have money that they didn’t pay tax on… And insisted on penalties, and depending on where it went from there, then maybe further prosecution under the AMLCTF or drug law, and perhaps then under the Proceeds of crimes act…
      
      Instead, they rifled through these peoples history, they found a marijuna plant on a farm he worked at (news flash every farm has at least one maraujana plant on it by now… and out of the hundreds of workers who worked on that farm, who is to say that plant belonged to any of them?), then said that all the money must have come from their proceeds as drug growers and distributors…
      
      And they ignored the evidence from the ex police-officer on the drug squad, who testified that the ‘evidence’ that they found does not support the thesis that they were growing marujana at a scale that could provide the level of income to buy that farm, and that therefore the farm should not be seized….
      
      I mean Cmon, how can the standards to knick someones property under the proceeds of crimes act be any different than proving the crime happened, surely you first need to establish the crime, then you need to establish a link between the crime and the alleged proceeds of crime or the farm…
      
      I am not saying they didn’t grow drugs, perhaps they did have a plant or two, or that they shouldn’t pay tax, quiet the opposite in fact, that they should have been investigated by the IRD, and that they should have also potentially been investigate by the police Financial Crimes Unit under AMLCTF act, and that if in the course of that investigation they uncovered evidence of criminal endevours like a drug plantation, of course they should prosecute them, then they should prosecute them another time and take their property…
      
      But they should do everything lawfully, according to the rule of law, due process and presumption of innocence, with a respect for private property… Not this BS hack job, because the State, comprising of the relevant Policemen and Judges decided on their own, in a parallel process, outside of the course of law, that these people were ‘clearly guilty’, that they ‘deserved’ to have their property seized….
      
      That is a disgrace, and frankly a farce and the sort of corruption that belongs in a bannana republic and not in NZ!

        Police should be held to criminal proceedings with required proof before any property is taken. They are acting as judge and jury in one.
        
        IRD have adequate power of inquiry and can assess taxes without a criminal level of proof. Unexplained income shown up as net assets is easy to tax and the onus fall on the the taxpayer to disprove the assessment. The IRD ability to collect tax is independent of any dispute about the amount payable.
        
        Police can raise their view of excessive assets with the IRD. The Commissioner of IRD can assess an entity such as a body unincorporate if necessary as well as individuals and regular companies. IRD also have comprehensive powers of information gathering and enforcement of their needs. Assessments become debts collectable through bankruptcy if needed.

There were some very nasty comments and rumour over the years and never did the Police intervene and say these stories are false. The bright penny used to march with false statements on her placards and not a word said, they threatened to rape his daughter but the Police still never went public to stop innuendo or the lies. So you have a media of clowns to to match the Government of misfits and whinges.

Allan Freeth reappeared in front of the Environment Committee to reiterate earlier assertions that no ministerial interference took place to oust the independent regulator’s former chief scientist Dr Jacqueline Rowarth.

He also rejected suggestions she was sacked or that she was managed out, but said Rowarth had been the subject of a “vicious” and prolonged social media attack and had been unhappy for some months prior to her leaving.

A question. Say you have a $200K mortgage on your house. Inflation goes through the roof so that the currency becomes worthless. Government issues new notes such that 100K buys you a loaf of bread (ala Zimbabwe or any other country with hyperinflation). Can you go and pay off your $200K loan with the now worthless $200K in inflated currency? Or are the mortgages pegged to something so that if that happened your mortgage would become $200Trillion?

      Then make sure the new Capital Gains Tax, that you have a enough funds to pay. It may even be in an accrual form as the government or council, will not want to wait so long for its share of you profit!.

  It will be easy to repay the debt.
  
  It looks like many wanted it to be pegged to Capital Gains Tax that will take the new value of your property and tax that.
  
  If inflation is not calculated, repairs and maintenance, then it is tax on inflation.
  
  If you can not pay those taxes and rates, then it will make all of us, become Penny’s as the courts/government will possess your property and redistribute to others that are more deserving. 🙂

  Of course it does nothing of the kind. What it does is displace crime to places where there are no cameras.
  
  If the cameras did keep a society safe then Britain would be the safest place in the world , which it isn’t.
  
  What cameras might do is assist in the detection of the crime , after the event. But what’s the point when all the c#nts get is a slap with a wet bus ticket.
  
  If there’s such a crime problem then let’s bring back the death penalty and hard labour. Make it really not worthwhile to commit crime.

Candidate 2 is ceo of a social work trust where Linda Cooper the other local councillor is the Chair. No media has reported it. And it’s certainly not in their public candidate profiles. Should candidates have to declare their conflicts of interest in a race and if so how. Will the councillors get a soft landing by having their staffers on the board at council? Will the discussions about local issues happen at the local board table or at the office around the water cooler. Legit or not?

We all know what is going on; Winston has made this bill the price of his support.

And Labour, because it wants power is paying the price (which as far as we know National refused to) – and NZ continues to have to put up with Winnie until the trolls final price is paid.

I suspect this is an incidental price we have to pay for Labour becoming a weak opposition over a long time out of power.

With luck Winnie getting to be PM will be the end of him – his needs met, his interest dulled – and we’re freed from his demands.

I agree Simon Bridges was, again, better this morning. In fact, he has a charming, cheeky grin which he should stick with. It’s not only engaging, he looks relaxed and confident when he does it. That is definitely a ‘John Key’ look that Bill English also acquired.

He has a tendency to start off well, now, but retreat to impassive earnestness which makes him invisible or potentially nervous.

It’s a bit of an art form. Always ‘engage’ positively with the interviewers – but about subjects under discussion, there’s a lot of room for outright approval, disbelief, irony, mild disgust, disapproval, etc.

Really, they’re all ‘looks’ that every parent learns to express to augment communication and/or save on words – being careful they’re used at the appropriate times. Most, if not all, the public ‘speak’ the language and will relate better the more they know where he’s at.

An interesting development in the Labour Summer Camp/underage drinking story. A 16yo Labour Party activist tweeted some time ago:

It seems that alcohol is freely available at Labour events, even to those who are too young to legally purchase or be supplied it. I somehow don’t think Jacinda Ardern will be happy to have a young Labour activist boasting that he had a few beers at a function where she engaged with him!

There’s nothing to be gained naming the young person, or linking to the tweet; it has already been circulated fairly widely. It does however serve as a reminder to ALL political parties that they need to comply with the law when organising social functions.

In the meantime, we await a statement from the Commissioner of Police as to progress on the Summer Camp investigation; after all, you’d think that allegations of indecent assault would be rather more important to the Police than hosing down rumours about the PM’s partner.

Informal “Cossacks” have been roughing up anti-Putin demonstrators in Moscow.

The Reds crushed Cossacks during the revolution, though a very small minority fought in the Red Army. Repression of Cossacks was brutal in 1920s and 1930s, because they had been strong in the White Army that fought the Reds.

Thousands of exiled Cossacks fought for the German Army in World War 2. Under Waffen SS command, they were used against local partisans in Yugoslavia and Northern Italy. Cossacks were traditionally mounted skirmishers, as in harassing Napoleon’s retreating troops, but, carrying whips, they were also the nasties in the pogroms, and in punishing resistance to Moscow in occupied countries like Latvia. They crushed city strikers and country peasants if they raised their heads too high.

The current “Cossacks” seem more like America’s urban cowboys than the feared Cossacks of old. The podgy types in the photograph in the report linked to here, don’t look as though they could dance Cossack style – still less, spring from the ground into the saddle.

The man who was shot by Dutch police after stabbing several people in The Hague is identified as Malek F. (Suspects are generally not fully identified in The Netherlands until they are convicted.) He is further identified as a 31 years old Syrian asylum-seeker. In February, police had to be called to ‘his’ apartment after he threw ‘his’ furniture down onto the street nearly injuring pedestrians.

    I watched a BBC doco on Stalin’s rise to the top, and wondered with all the savagery and killings he ordered, how he could still be a sort of hero upon his death. Very few Soviet families escaped his butchery, and he got satisfaction in naming people to be shot. His rather mundane ending took place in his bedroom where he suffered a stroke. Such was the fear he evoked that half a day elapsed before someone dared to enter his room to find him lying on the floor in his own urine. How ironic he suffered such a messy end.

The Supreme Court has rejected the prosecution’s request to appeal a three-year prison sentence handed down by a Pirkanmaa court for sexual crimes committed against a 10-year-old girl in autumn 2016.

The case attracted a great deal of attention because both the local district court and the court of appeal decided against handing down a verdict for aggravated rape.

The prosecution sought leave to appeal the verdict. It wanted a harsher conviction for the defendant – a 23-year-old asylum seeker – on the grounds of aggravated rape as well as the original verdict of aggravated sexual abuse. The prosecution also sought harsher sentencing for the man as well as heavier damages for the victim.

However the Supreme Court refused leave to appeal the conviction and sentence, leaving the original appeal court sentence unchanged.
