    The ILG issue doesn’t seem to exist given it’s disappearance from the MSM. Let’s not allow this to be swept permanently under the rug while Parliament is conveniently in recess and keep it alive by stirring the pot with emails to the likes of Hosking, Leighton and Larry Williams. Mitchell and Woodhouse can reopen their assault on ILG when Parliament reconvenes the week after next.

Following Vector’s AGM yesterday it seems the Entrust (Auckland Consumers’ Electricity Trust) saga is far from over. Very briefly the Trust had elections recently and prior to the election the C&R (nominal) group threw one of its group under a bus (he had become a dissident) and ‘appointed’ another to stand under the C&R banner. It is apparent that the five are not fully united but put on an air of unity for the Trust election and succeeded against the left wing candidates thanks to support from the Apathy party. The only election ‘policy’ they presented was to retain the $350 or so annual payout to consumers.
The majority of the Trustees wanted to put the skids under Mike Stiassny, Vector’s chair and this became a certainty following the Trust elections so he is stepping down. What is ominous however is the Trustees just prior to Vector’s AGM indicated they would not support the confirmation of two recently appointed directors despite having OK’d them when they were appointed by the Board earlier this year. No explanation was forthcoming. The three possibilities are that some of the Trustees considered they had got too close to Mike Stiassny, that the Trustees wanted to flex their muscles against Vector or that the Trustees have some hidden agenda (which was not disclosed in the run up to the elections). The Trustees chair refused to comment on this at the Vector AGM nor to journos afterwards.
This lack of transparency is troubling (the Trustees are not subject to the transparency required of local government despite being a pseudo local government agency). Also troubling is any prospective well qualified candidates for Vector directorships would be less inclined to agree to appointment if the Trustees could treat them in a shabby manner. The Board is down to five members (four existing and one new) with up to four vacancies to be filled. Possibility the Trustees want to have more say in the day to day running of Vector. This would be of concern to the other shareholders (the Trust owns 75% or so of Vector’s shares). It will be interesting to see what the Trust has in mind for Vector in the next several months. Will more directors’ heads roll? The Trustees merely need to threaten to requisition a Vector SGM to achieve this.
Interesting times.

    The wonder here is City Vision (aka Labour) not winning any of the five Trust seats (they also promised not to touch the Payout). As long as they keep getting the annual cheque and the lights stay on most of the time, many people especially left wingers could not care less so did not bother to vote.
    By the side – postal voting has been made more difficult because so many street mail boxes have been removed.

  Entrust is a disgrace. Lawyer Karen Sherry has been a Trustee of Entrust for 24 years. Mike Buczowski for 18 years and William Cairns the Chairman for 9 years. They think its a job for life. Each is paid over $100K.
  
  In addition Sherry has been a Director of Vector for 12 years and Buczowski has just been elected to the Vector Board.
  
  Both are run like Mannys Music Parlour with little regard to good governance principles.

    I know nothing of Entrust’s agenda, but I fully support your comments re length of tenure. However, the same issues arise with the Board, the Chairman and indeed the CEO. In my view such positions in a public company should be rolled over at reasonable intervals, eg 10 years max. This is not a reflection on the incumbents’ competencies per se, simply that fresh eyes and ideas are needed from time to time. One only has to look at Vector’s disastrous non-core investments over recent years to see evidence of this.

      There are other trusts that need examining.
      
      The community trusts set up to manage funds from the sale of the savings banks, and distribute the profits, need more light shone on them.
      
      They are filled with political appointees. Names of some trusts have been changed, which might be to make them more opaque to the communities to which they dole out cash.

And in west, operations run through a seperate business, with unelected directors not subject to lgoima. Elections not based on accountability or issues but on pork barrel politics as politicians social media populated with selfies with the cheque’s they hand over to local groups.

        Very much historical. These positions (also JP’s) were and are within the ‘gift’ of local MP’s. Entrust positions are by election which is a great improvement although the key player unfortunately is the Apathy Party.

        I don’t know about the small northern licensing trusts, Surely Knott, but the two Southland licensing trusts (Mataura and Invercargill) have elections with competition for seats.
        
        Shifting these two trusts will be difficult given the great community facilities they have built or have been major contributors to, including swimming pools, a velodrome, stadiums, and an ice skating centre.
        
        In addition to such facilities, the two trust shell out millions to local community groups each year.

      CEO’s are subject to the Employment Relations Act and a Board wanting to remove a CEO for incompetence is faced having to make a significant severence payment. IMO CEO and very senior positions should be exempt from Employment law. If a prospective CEO or very senior employer (eg CFO or General Counsel) feels the need for employment law protection, they are not fit for appointment.

        It’s not necessarily a matter of incompetence, rather a turnover of ideas. CEOs are typically appointed on 3-5 year contracts and do not need to be reappointed repeatedly. Indeed, CEO salaries include a premium for this risk. Further, a new CEO tends to bring in his/her own team. However, a bigger problem can arise if the CEO is the Chairman’s ‘pet’.

    I respectfully disagree. The Vector Board has no real say in the ownership of Vector’s shareholding and so taking stronger control of the Vector Board would not achieve its objective. Depending on Entrust’s trust deed it is possible that the Trustees could decide to vest the Vector shares and its other assets in the Auckland Council at any time.
    Appointing two Vector directors is within the Trustees’ gift. While theoretically the Reustees could appoint the whole Board, such directors would not be ‘independent’ directors and that would breach listing rules. However the Trustees can veto appointments made through the usual processes for initially appointing directors. So it is possible that the Trustees could shape the Board to meet Entrust’s meddling objectives by vetoing directors the Trustees deem unsuitable as fappened to two directors a few days ago.

      There is no such organisation such as C&R and there seems to be no intellectual property in the brand. It is simply a loose brand name for right leaning groups standing for councils etc. this is in consequence of the National Party’s policy decision not to get involved in local politics.
      I do not really know about City Vision, which is the left wing version – to what extent the Labour Party has control of it.

I have a genuine question, which is I believe of considerable importance to public Health in NZ. Is the Prime Minister part of the cabal of rabid anti-vaccination nutters?
The below article cites “the baby (Neve) has not been vaccinated” against polio, and therefore is not accompanying her mother to PNG. Vaccinations against Polio according to the Health Department are due at 6 weeks, 3 months and 5 months.
What type of example does this set if the reports are in fact TRUE, that the leader of our country undermines sound Public Health advice by not immunising her own child?

    I spoke to my GP about anti vaxxers. She said she tries to work with them to see if she can get them to reconsider but it rarely works. She knows some GPs who say “find another doctor” but they are a minority.

    The last time we heard from Tubby Wood was that SHE was going to sort out all the outstanding claims and uninsured people against the nasty EQC – with taxpayers money and the nasty Insurance companies,

  There may be good medical reasons why Neve hasn’t been vaccinated, assuming it’s true. A cold or other mild illness would lead a doctor to delay vaccination. I highly doubt our PM would be anti-vaccine, given it’s a founding plank of UN global healthcare programmes.

      I think they blacklist people. I found my comments stopped appearing so I started commenting under another time and those are showing up fine. I suspect the blacklisting was for critcising the quality of their journalism not for having non-left views in general.

        At least it is not as insidious as a ‘blacklist’ feature available with the Disqus system. This feature if activated allows the comment to show up for the person who made it but not for anyone else. AFAIK Whaleoil does not use this sneaky feature but other blogs etc using Disqus may do so.

      Ditto. I emailed and asked why, they replied saying I was racist because I had referenced maori cannibalism in the “Henry Williams letters” Te Wiremu.
      
      I pointed out the comments in a number of historical references but they stuck with the racist epithet then said that I had called a person an idiot.
      
      I replied and said that the person was an idiot so what was the problem. Never got a reply but they certainly got pissed when I had a shot at josephinef who was a particularly aggressive commenter who I have now seen was a stuff reporter.

    If it was that easy and safe to recover the bodies from the mine Andrew Little would be in charge and if anything went wrong be would be facing the charges not the CEO that they have employed to give the Judgement. Another 23 plus million that could be used for more urgent policy to help NZ’ers.

I guess the rest of the families are not too concerned – after all, the pressure has been driven by these three. Shane Jones, like Phil Twyford, is tits at maths too

A deal was done between the Crown and the Ngāti Hine Forestry Trust in the Far North earlier this year and 1.2 million seedlings were bought to be planted.

The Ministry for Primary Industries has yet to put a dollar figure on the cost to taxpayers, but market rates for seedlings put the cost of the order at about $400,000.

About 400,000 seedlings bought by the government to plant in Northland have gone to waste after the land was too wild to plant on.

• So a third of the seedlings were wasted, a third of $400,000 – which is about $133,333.
But – Forestry Minister Shane Jones said the cost to the taxpayer was about $160,000.

• Seems Shane is not so great with figures, even when they are in his favour – or he did something else with $26,667. I guess: hired a seedling mulcher.

Official documents show the Government planned to plant 1100ha with pine this year and had ordered about 1,100,000 seedlings for that.

• So pine seedlings are planted about 1,000 of them to the hectare. 100 hectares to the square kilometre.
To plant one billion trees may require about 10,000 square kilometres.

As has been estimated before, that’s roughly a strip of land from Bluff (intersection Palmer Street, Gore Street) in the south, to Cape Reinga Lighthouse, in the north, following state highway 1, (2086 km) but, instead an average 7.5 m wide roadway, it’ll need a strip of land 640 highways wide, or 4.8 kilometres wide, Bluff to Reinga.

  Jones said the regional fund could support small-scale irrigation projects, even though the Labour-Greens confidence and supply agreement has a provision to “wind down Govt support for irrigation” …
  “I’m an advocate and I’m going to push for localised water storage, localised water initiatives, or I’m beggared if I can see how I’m going to lift the productivity of both the Maori owners and the Maori land.

      Ordinarily, I would agree with you: but these are not ordinary times. Fate has dealt us an inept Prime minister, who lacks experience, wisdom, and – judging by her verbal skills – mediocre intelligence. Sure, she goes down well with the women’s magazines, and the international leftist media just love a bimbo with a baby, but when it comes to the nitty-gritty, she simply doesn’t cut it. She has already got offside with Donald Trump, because of her big mouth, and there will be plenty of opportunity for similar gaffes at APEC.
      I recognise that she’ll be backed up by experienced and skilled advisors, but unless what they say is in accord with the socialist/ eco-warrior playbook, it will be dismissed out of hand (cf. the advice from Treasury and MBIE regarding the ban on oil and gas exploration).
      We don’t know whether or not anyone on the National benches did call her a “silly little girl”, but that’s spot on, anyway. This country deserves better than a political tiro who evidently thinks that a winsome smile can achieve almost anything. If we do come out of APEC with some gains, it will be more by accident than design.

Nationalism in itself is NOT the enemy of peace. In fact historically Western (based on Judeo-Christian truth) nations were exactly what saved the world from globalist tyrannies. And those same countries are the most generous in their regard for the peoples of other nations. Of course things could be improved but you will never do this by discarding the structures that have furthered peace and well being more than any other systems. And remember, those democracies have to date never gone to war with one another – they have always managed to work out their problems without resort to arms. As we increasingly abandon our cultural heritages I have doubts that situation will continue. We lose our moral basis (as exhibited through our cultures) and tyranny and wars follow, as sure as night follows day.
And actually I think Macron is closer to being in league with the Nazis than anything he may want to accuse the true ‘nationalists’ as being. The theorists of the Nazis saw their ideology as being trans-national; as having the potential to supersede nationalism as such in favor of their own ideology. Sure it was racist and anti-Semitic at its core, but so are the modern globalist leftists who support these things. They hate Judaism and the Christian underpinnings of the West and desire little more than to completely overturn that moral structure (as did the Nazis). Their entire thrust is virtually indistinguishable to Nazi ideology; they simply stress different aspects of it at the present time, but in my view their adherence to the same creed will emerge more clearly with time.
If Macron wants to see a modern Nazi in the making he needs look no further than the mirror. He is self-righteous and sure of his own beliefs – he fails to see where they inevitably lead. Or maybe he sees and doesn’t care. Anyway, what do you want to see? These globalist leaders have no real concern for their own constituencies; do you really expect them to have genuine compassion to the poor of other nations? I don’t think that is their game at all.

    Currently the US has about 64,400 military based in the EU, mainly in Germany & Italy, probably as a hangover from WWII and in Germany’s case because it’s handy to Russia.
    I’m sure the proud British would just love a big influx of Americans boosting their army presence from pretty much nothing to 26,000 on an island where, if they were needed in a hurry, they would be stranded.

It is entirely appropriate that the US maintains this ideal because of the population diversity. Without Nationalism the community reverts to tribalism (the default); the left is promoting identity politics; tribalism by proxy.

Seems the leftie voters are either apathetic or have selective amnesia!…why?, well during last election campaign Labour and NZ first basically said, in so many words, ‘we will enter the Pike River mine as soon as we are the Government’ and go onto cite various independent reports that say it’s safe. Flash forward 12-14 months and they STILL haven’t entered the mine and set up a $30million ‘ministry’ and now they will take the first steps in Feb next year. I wonder how long it will actually take to enter the mine to the extent they promised during election, in my humble opinion this will be teased out for months and months with grandstanding and ticker tape parades (metaphorically speaking) with every ‘stage’ announcement with the full entry being just in time for the next election cycle.

        We had an exchange student from France a few years back. He became a commando in the French Navy. They were tasked with shutting down Somali piracy which they did extremely efficiently and bravely by tracking the pirates back to their village bases and taking the fight to them on land.
        
        Remember how an incursion into Somalia ended for the US in “Black Hawk Down”.
        
        The French commandos plus soldiers from other nations have basically shut down the piracy.

        Tallman, quite different scenarios. The US at the time was trying to stabilize the country. Dealing with a few motley pirates armed with AK-47’s in basically open speed boats is rather a different situation. Any competent military force with military weapons; AND terms of engagement that allows them to shoot to kill should find it fairly easy to win.
        
        At one stage I believe that the RN had problems beating the pirates off because they were forbidden to shoot and injure, so had to fire only warning shots – something that the pirates pretty quickly picked up on and so basically ignored RN forces.

    1. WW1 the US was largely responsible for breaking the stalemate of trench warfare. Their contribution both actual and perceived (what they could bring to the fight if it continued) helped force the armistice.
    2. Who fought the war in the Pacific, almost single handed? How would ‘D’ Day happened if 3 out of the 5 beach heads had not been American?
    No the yanks didn’t win the war, but without them we WOULD have lost.

        Statistics from different sources on German war dead on the Russian front are confusing, but there’s no doubt that’s where the majority of German casualties occurred.
        
        As for the statement above, “they (the Russians) couldn’t even beat the Finns”: the Finns are crack troops. The German SS units sent to bolster them after the short Finnish-Russian war couldn’t hack it with their “allied” Finnish troops.

        I remember talking to an old chap who had been special forces in WW2, spent years in the desert, including almost getting left for dead at Tobruk, I suspect he was LRDG, though he was cagey about it.
        He landed by boat the night before D Day, and observed the landings (as well as actively taking part from behind enemy lines) . He said the bulk of the US troops were enthusiastic but did not have much combat experience, while the British troops were the reformed 8th Army that had fought through the desert, and were very experienced, (did not say about the Canadians, as they were not in his sector, but they had a very good reputation, as did the NZ and Aus troops).
        The beaches the Americans had were more difficult, which, combined with inexperience, made for heavy casualties.
        The British also made use of a range of “funnies” which were task specific vehicles for overcoming obstacles of various types.
        Experirnce, slightly easier terrain and the funnies meant those beaches were taken quicker and with much fewer casualties.

        Peter S., from North Africa, the British 8th Army moved on to fight in the invasion of Sicily then spent the rest of the war fighting up through Italy. The New Zealand Division under General Freyberg was part of the 8th Army in North Africa and in Italy.
        
        I’d imagine Royal Marine commandos, Army commandos, and SAS would have been the first soldiers ashore on the D-Day beaches assigned to the British.

        One New Zealander who was am official New Zealand D-Day observer was Brigadier James Hargest.
        
        He was something of a hero in World War 1, and was a member of Parliament when World War 2 broke out. Hargest was widely believed to be suffering shell shock from World War 1, but rejoined the Army, perhaps with help from his Parliamentary colleagues.
        
        Hargest played a controversial role in the defence of Crete, and was later taken prisoner. Hargest escaped from POW camp and got back to Britain through France, Spain, and Portugal.
        
        He was killed shortly after the beginning of the D-Day landings while with the British advance.

      Nope, sorry, the US had two major impacts in WW1. First was economic, access to the US enabled the Allied powers to amass a material advantage in artillery and shells that became increasingly important. Second was morale, once the German armies realized that the US was shipping over 500,000 men a month to Europe they realized that winning would become impossible.
      
      The US troops were not particularly well trained (initially, and that’s true of all newly raised formations not just the US) and Pershing was very reluctant to allow US formations of size to serve with other allied formations as part of their training. Pershing himself was relatively ignorant of tactical developments that for example made the British so effective by late 1918, and in fact clung to beliefs common at the start of the war that morale and massed attacks were the way to succeed. As a result, although some US units performed well, by the time of the armistice the US armies in France were in a relatively bad way logistically and were in serious need of time out of the front to reorganize, train, and recover.
      
      They were critical in certain battles, their contribution to the couter-attack that destroyed the German incursion at the Chemin de Dames area was important. The US units were large and full of spirited, brave, and enthusiastic soldiers who pushed the attack hard. They also took serious casualties. But breaking the trench warfare – never really happened though by November 1918 the allies were close in several areas to open warfare away from the trenches. They could have been closer but the placement of the various armies meant that the only force capable of a sustained offensive – the British army – was in the North and Centre facing the most concentrated German defenses. The French had more promising terrain but were not capable of any sustained offensive action. The Americans were able to mount some actions, St Mihiel was a start, but lacked the logistics and the organization for sustained offensive action. The ideal way would have been to feed a limited (but significant) number of the fresh US divisions into the British line and use their vigour and fitness in parallel with the by then tactically skillful but smaller and less fit British divisions. However that was politically unacceptable so apart from some limited instances (like the attack on the Hindenburg Line) the armies fought as s eparate groups.
      
      Psychological impact of the US, very significant. Actual battle impact less so though still worthy and part of the overall victory.

      Japan had severe logistical problems in the Pacific War. I remember my father-in-law’s stories of his unit’s near starvation in New Guinea due to lack of supplies. He was fortunate that he never saw action; I doubt he would have survived. As it was, he contracted malaria, and at one point his ship was torpedoed (I assume by a US submarine).

        Probably untrue. The attacked Australian territory in PNG and attacked across the Owen Stanley range (the Kokoda Trail) and attempted an amphibious landing around the tip of PNG as well. If they had forced the Australians out of PNG and hadn’t been stopped in the Coral Sea they would most likely have at least attempted to invade Australia.
        
        Might have been pretty hard for them. Although a lot less populated than China, the Japanese quite likely lacked the manpower to invade Australia to any great depth. They also lacked the logistics on land and equipment like tanks. The distances and the logistics would have made it a very hard campaign to win.
        
        New Zealand would no doubt have been an after thought, but would have been simple to take compared to Australia as long as they controlled the sea which they would have to to get to NZ anyway.

        There were discussions in the Japanese “Diet” in 1942 about the feasibility of invading Australia. Briefly. the navy wanted to invade but the army didn’t have the manpower (est 150/250,000 men) unless they pulled troops from Manchuria which they considered open to attack from the USSR. There was also a small matter of shipping which was in short supply. After the Battle of the Coral Sea the proposal was left to die a natural death.
        
        Darwin & Broome were attacked by planes launched from carriers which were subsequently sunk during Coral Sea & Midway battles.
        
        The Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo stated in an interview shortly before his execution that:
        
        …..”We never had enough troops to [invade Australia]. We had already far out-stretched our lines of communication. We did not have the armed strength or the supply facilities to mount such a terrific extension of our already over-strained and too thinly spread forces.   They helped to win the wars along with my Dad who was involved with his mates in the NZ Army years before America very reluctantly had no alternative.
  For that matter a good number of Americans, Charles Lindbergh for example, thought Hitler was the bees knees as did plenty of Brits.
  A lot of notable people from both sides of the Atlantic and around the world were in uniform during those and subsequent wars,
  The Queen, Rob Muldoon, Jack Marshall, JFK, John Kerry, de Gaulle, Spike Milligan, John McCain.
  Often it’s the ones who don’t do the hard work that claim the most credit.

    They knew the risks/conditions in the mine, yet they still chose to go. They all had training and knew what they were doing, yet they chose to go in. They all knew what the signs and safety issues were, yet they chose to ignore them.
    
    Why should anybody be risking themselves to go after them?
    
    This isn’t the 1800s any more where starving miners were forced into filthy capitalists’ mines. This was a Union sanctioned mine with massive support for workers.

  1. What is the average cost of the developers levy now?
  2. What controls will there be on the size of the levy in future?
  3. Will the cost be fixed for the term of the levy loan?
  4. What happens when you sell your house?
  5. When (and it will happen) will the council increase the size of the levy, because it’s “only” $1000 a year?
  6. If you can afford a mortgage now, how will another $20 – $40 dollars a week affect your budget?

      Sure there are heaps of guns in criminal hands in USA because they have such porous borders with gang infested countries to their south. Those central American countries have the worst gun death stats in the world, as a region. (way worse than USA). Clearly a lot of that is going to spill through into USA.
      
      People keep obsessing about the “mass murders” (when 4 or more people get killed) using semi-automatic weapons. This is really stupid. They make all the hype but they only account for a small fraction of the gun deaths.
      
      Of more than 30,000 gun deaths in USA per year, only something like 200 (less than 1%) are mass murders with AR15s etc.
      
      Perhaps it would make a bit more sense to focus on the gang shootings which account for at least 10x as many deaths or just the day-to-day robbings and other mayhem committed with illegally owned handguns that accounts for 90% of the gun homicides.
      
      But no, ignore the elephant in the room and pick on the 1% problem!

    1) There are so many flavours of mental illness that having one does not make you an expert on others any more than having a physical problem does. Having dandruff does not make you an expert on arthritis.
    
    2) Many people with mental illnesses (eg, I suspect JLR) have lack of insight. That means they cannot understand their own illness and therefor cannot be experts in the area.

I’ve just finished a conversation with a person (trusted family member) with first hand knowledge.

Why do Indians buy all the Liqour Stores? Etc.
The conversation began with why do they have high staff turnover, all being Indian.

The reason is an immigration loophole.
Using the 5.00 to 9.00 shift they cliam nobody wants that job. Which may or may not be true. So they import a family member from India to do that shift. Otherwise supporting them. As the year passes they get more hours as one family member gets more citizen rights and they move on to full employement elsewhere. The night shift person replaces that person and a new family member is imported to fill the night shift job. The Liqour shop exploits an immigration loophole.

    There is a big difference between the Indians entering with degrees to fill actual shortages and completely unskilled workers. I work with plenty of them and they are good people. One is likely to be a net taxpayer, supporting a family and buying a home. The other group is probably a net tax burden. Low wages, low tax paid, WFF, accommodation supplements, state housing, no health insurance. Periods of unemployment and possible kids for benifits.

Israel’s army is increasingly using high-velocity bullets that shatter limbs, leaving medics in Gaza at desperation point.

“An 11-year-old child with his leg hanging on by a strip of skin was in one operating theatre where we were attempting a vascular repair, with an eight-year-old shot in the groin in a holding bay, when seven more arrived, also critically injured by sniper fire.”

These are the words of a top British orthopaedic surgeon, normally operating in a state of the art theatre at a London teaching hospital. He was reporting on a typical day of work at Shifa Hospital in the besieged Gaza Strip, where along with scores of other international surgeons, he volunteers to save the lives of Gaza protesters – and, increasingly, their limbs.

The limbs have been shattered by high velocity bullets, fired by Israeli snipers ranged along the barrier which separates Gaza from Israel, keeping 2 million Palestinians penned inside the strip, most of them refugees.

The protesters, part of the ongoing Great March of Return, are demanding an end to their imprisonment in Gaza, and a right to return to what was once – and they say still is – their land on the other side of the fence. In the six months since the protest began, 220 Palestinians have been shot dead, according to the Hamas health authority in Gaza, whose figures are accepted as broadly accurate by independent medical sources, including the International Red Cross (ICRC), but today it is the horrifying number of catastrophic wounds that is breaking Gaza.

Since the start, there have been more than 24,500 casualties, says the Gaza authority, with at least 5,300 protesters shot – by high velocity gunfire, more than a quarter of whom need major and repeated surgery if the leg has any chance of being saved. Hundreds have been amputated and many more of those undergoing surgery will yet lose limbs. …

    What IS mentioned are the usual emotive descriptions, and after re-reading the article, one is left with the impression that it is really no different from any of those written by ‘Anti-Israeli’ newspapers over the last 70 years.

      Yup, there are some tricks you can pull if you want to flash your money around, but they need very expensive antenna designs and very expensive GPS electronic designs. They are also bigger and tend to chew a lot of power (ie. sux for handheld) and they won’t sell them outside NATO-friendly military etc.
      
      Your cellphone GPS does not pull these tricks though. Nor do any civilian GPSs .
      
      That’s all I’ll say for now as I’m in the game.

    With less than $50 (a slightly bigger budget for a more beefy transmitter) of equipment you could jam out the whole of Christchurch from the Port Hills or the whole of Auckland from a reasonable vantage point (eg. a light aircraft).
    
    Remember GPS satellites are about 20,000 km away and only have a 27W or so transmitter. That has about the same signal strength as a 1W transmitter 25 km away. It does not take much to build a 10W to 100W transmitter if you don’t care about harmonics etc.
    
    The US military does use encrypted GPS. That helps against spoofing, not so much against jamming. They also use a higher chipping rate which does help a bit against jamming but they also have special antenna designs etc which do also help a bit.

I really admire Myanmar for booting out all the Rohinga muslims from their peaceful Buddhist country.
They won’t listen to any waffle from the UN and idiots like Ardern.

    It looks as though our PR Prime Minister is offering to help Myanmar solve its Muslim problem.
    
    That could mean Ardern will invite thousands of Myanmar Muslims to NZ! That would mean while there is no NZ help for the Christians persecuted in Myanmar and the Middle East, we would be taking in heaps more bloody Muslims.

Aesop’s the Fox & the Goat:

“Once a fox was roaming around in the dark. Unfortunately, he fell into a well. He tried his level best to come out but all in vain. So, he had no other alternative but to remain there until the next morning. The next day, a goat came that way. She peeped into the well and saw the fox there. The goat asked, “what are you doing there, Mr. Fox?”

The sly fox replied, “I came here to drink water. It is the best I have ever tasted. Come and see for yourself.” Without thinking even for a while, the goat jumped into the well, quenched her thirst and looked for a way to get out. But just like the fox, she also found herself helpless to come out.

Then the fox said, “I have an idea. You stand on your hind legs. I’ll climb on your head and get out. Then I shall help you come out too.” The goat was innocent enough to understand the shrewdness of the fox and did as the fox said and helped him get out of the well.

While walking away, the fox said, “Had you been intelligent enough, you would never have got in without seeing how to get out.”

Moral: Look before you leap. Do not just blindly walk in to anything without thinking.”
