Kiwibuild – delivering 1000 homes by 1 July 2019.

It depends what is meant by ‘delivering’. Wouldn’t most ordinary people assume that 1000 families will be living in their new homes?

Nope. Mr Twyford says 800 of these will be bought off the plans. So private developments underwritten by the government with completion possibly years away. And that assumes all goes well with the development, not a done deal with construction workers in short supply.

Construction companies going to the wall will free up workers for other projects though and the Kiwibuild developers will no doubt be in like a robber’s dog to snap them up. And there are always migrants, many of them, not sure where they will be living mind you.

That sounds like a lot of unhappy Kiwibuy-off-the plans campers. Well maybe not so many. 245 currently pre-qualified but that expires after 6 months and mortgage drawdown is going to be well after that in most cases.

There is already reported to be an oversupply of new builds in two Auckland suburbs – Pinehill and Albany Heights – and a big jump in properties for sale in some locations. Buyers might be well advised to watch and wait to see if developers start to drop their prices to stave off liquidation.

    No offense to my Auckland based friends on here, but if I was advising the opposition I would base the entire 2020 campaign on Kiwibuild being a corrupt, unaffordable scheme by leftwing Auckland politicians trying cement majorities in their seats. In short Kiwibuild is a Auckland vs the rest of NZ scheme. The problem is National would likely keep it in power.

    Interesting, and not surprising. Though there are only 10 people on the social housing register (approved for social housing) for Queenstown / Lakes as at 30 September 2018 from a total of 9536 all up. Not a lot of demand then.
    
    Ms Collins has been asking a lot of written questions about numbers and locations of Kiwibuild homes under contract. Answers? None that I could see, just a boilerplate statement that the info is commercially sensitive.
    
    How that could be the case when they are under contract I do not know.

      There’s a huge and overwhelming demand for affordable housing in the QLDC region.
      
      The reason nobody goes on the state house waiting lists is because there are only nine state houses in the entire district and Housing NZ has been trying for years to get rid of the remaining stock for years (they sell the houses as soon as they are vacated). It’s politically unpalateable for Housing NZ to accommodate state house tenants in a resort town.
      
      Consequently the district has started other schemes to create affordable housing based around private homes on leasehold land owned by a local housing trust. Do a Google search for “Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust”.

        The trust is a social housing provider, homes assigned from the social housing register and income related rent subsidised by the taxpayer.
        
        The social housing register is for social housing, not just state housing.
        
        What has happened elsewhere is that state housing has been on sold to other social housing providers, same terms and conditions pretty much.
        
        Are the state houses already sold now owned by the trust? Or another social housing provider? Either way, there is little demand and availability doesn’t seem to stop the other nearly 10,000 applicants for cheap housing.

        The QLCHT doesn’t buy and operate former state houses. It’s a different model to other parts of the country – most of their funding comes from DCs that developers pay when agricultural land is rezoned for residential development.
        
        I don’t know why your pretending that there is no demand for affordable housing in the Queenstown Lakes district. The Community Housing Trust has over 500 families on their waiting list:

  It would take a carpenter and three hammer hands three weeks to complete the house on site.

      Dead right. When my then-wife and I build in 1981-82, a 975sqft Craigwin home was all we could afford. Certainly didn’t have an en suite, walk-in ‘robe and butler’s pantry. As for internal access, hell, we didn’t even get a garage for three years, until we had saved enough, because every cent we had went into the house.
      
      These days, young couples (like Ardern and Twyford’s poster children doctor and marketing manager) expect a “starter” home to be at least four brms, with all the add-ons above, and more. Whatever happened to making do?

        …..in the 1980’s we got a mortgage with the then Housing Corp….for low income earners…..it was a leg up and a case of buying a cheap house….mine was 1860’s workman’s cottage…..no insulation…..no ensuite….two bedrooms….and no garage….but we were so grateful….still am as it was a great little starter….we worked hard….did it up….made some capital gain and went up the property ladder….this is how it should be for first home buyers with a limited income…..not the top of the line ensuite homes they expect now….

        @ madamezucchininz – we were the same. We just qualified for a Housing Corp first mortgage (at 18% interest), but we were $12k short of what we needed to build. The builder put us in touch with an insurance company that loaned us what we needed at 21%, but we also had to take out double the value of the mortgage in life insurance.
        
        It was tough for the first few years, but gradually got better, and we were able to clear the second mortgage before we started a family. That’s what most of our friends were doing too, and it was just how you had to do it to get your foot on the property ladder. Imagine the young couples complaining about the cost of housing now having to pay more than 5% on their single mortgage.

  The situation reminds me of the first missionary to South Korea. He gets off the boat and walks from the surf onto the beach where a man with a sword cuts off his head.
  
  The missionary was carrying a Bible which was grabbed by his slayer. The pages of the Bible were used by the man to paper his walls. The man began reading what was written and because of reading the Bible he himself became a Christian. And that’s how Christianity began in Korea.

Our vet told m of a local farmer who had the sheep he had sent to the works reject for export because of a clown who had been letting his dog wander. (albeit short term) Personally I’d be happy if Gillies never came back, she is about as welcome to see as a wet weekend!

  Any claim made by Nicky Hager should be treated with extreme skepticism. Basically start from the assumption he’s lying, and you’re on solid ground.
  
  Hager’s modus operandi is to do the bare minimum of “research” (typically involving exactly the sort of immoral or illegal invasions of privacy that he would scream blue-murder about if it happened to him). This grabs him one or two verifiable facts. Then he spins his yarn, relying on these verified facts to lend credence to a fable, the vast majority of which will be just the delusions of his own radical-left imagination.

  This may be out of date but I think one gram retails for around $500. Depending on how it’s cooked, either crystals or white powder can be produced. If you buy crystals it is probably the real thing but if you buy powder it could be mixed with all kinds of stuff. The amount to get high varies by individual and how long they’ve been using, Maybe a quarter of a gram might be average but I’m not really sure.

    3-coil, this issue reflects 2 things (neither of which are being properly discussed by the media in their coverage of the isdue):
    
    1. How did NZ get into a situation where a group of people not trained in medicine other than delivering babies, come to be able to diagnose conditions & then perform surgical procedures on recently born babies without any form of professional control; and
    2. The use of this procedure seems to have arisen because not all babies successfully breast feed. The whole breast feeding issue is an over done campaign born out of global politics rather than good medical practices of what is right for each mother & child.
    
    The global politics to which I refer, was firstly the hatred of multi-nationals like Nestles providing milk powder as a milk substitute in developing African countries. Without it, mothers and new born infants would have died. The second campaign has been the feminists and their carry on about women & their bodies. The two campaigns came together as a health programme “Breast is Best”. On a personal note, I know of 5 babies who would have starved if this mantra had been followed. In all instances the mothers couldn’t produce milk & so bottle feeding was the only way. Not one of the babies were “tongue tied” & in one case the mother ended up with cracked, sore and bleeding breasts – symptoms of some of the mothers discussed in the media this week. I know this, because the cases referred to involved my wife/son, my mother-in-law and her sister and her children.
    
    IMO, the problem is the “Breast is Best” culture, & a lack of dealing with the health needs of each mother and their infant child. Get this right and problems that were once rare will also go away.

  Midwives are not nurses any more as they used to be. Just Blackmailers.

The Show Pony is baffled by her own Ministers incompetence When it comes taxes that she and her Government rushed through Parliament, two months ago it was this law that takes away letting fees and puts more money in renters pockets was a game changer for the PM and the Coalition now all the Show Pony can say is she hopes rents won’t rise after the company’s that were controlling letting fees told the owners they would now charge them for the fee. It is unbelievable that a PM running our great Country can’t understand that the owner of a business is and should not be the one taking a loss to house people in their properties it is the tenant that has to absorb the loss to cover the cost for them to live in the dwelling. If the inept Minister rushed a stupid law through Parliament and held discussions with Landlords and come to a reasonable solution on letting fees instead of try to be a dictator this could have seen a better outcome that maybe would have suited both sides.

Australia will not be signing up to the UN migration pact, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said, explaining he was was not willing to risk the government’s successes in fighting people trafficking.

While Ardern is sacrificing our border sovereignty in the hope of securing a UN role, Morrison is doing the right thing.

Ardern is a disgrace.

  So last night Cindy was promising money for a South Auckland hospital. Now I spent a lot of time visiting Christchurch hospital in recent years (Dad had cancer). The problem this country has is every x years they build a 6 story 50m wide extension to the hospital. These morons, and going by the plaques at the front are 75-80% Labour should have just built a 80m wide 25 story building 15-30, 40 years ago. You folks in the rest of the country would be staggered at how much they are wasting in Chch currently. If Clark had done that 14 years ago when things were cheaper instead of wasting money on railways, wff and students, this country would be so much richer.

U.K. Quakers to Boycott Companies ‘Profiting From the Occupation’ of West Bank

The Quakers of Britain announced that the religious movement will no longer invest in companies that “profit from the occupation” of the West Bank.

The Quakers, also known as the Society of Friends, said in their announcement Monday that the decision was made by the church’s trustees in consultation with Meeting for Sufferings – the national representative body of Quakers. It said the Quakers have a long history of “pursuing ethical investments,” noting that it has taken decisions not to invest in the fossil fuel industry, arms companies and South Africa under apartheid.

“Our long history of working for a just peace in Palestine and Israel has opened our eyes to the many injustices and violations of international law arising from the military occupation of Palestine by the Israeli government,” Paul Parker, recording clerk for the Quakers in Britain, said in the statement. “With the occupation now in its 51st year, and with no end in near sight, we believe we have a moral duty to state publicly that we will not invest in any company profiting from the occupation.”

He also wrote: “As Quakers, we seek to live out our faith through everyday actions, including the choices we make about where to put our money. We believe strongly in the power of legitimate, nonviolent, democratic tools such as morally responsible investment to realize positive change in the world. We want to make sure our money and energies are instead put into places which support our commitments to peace, equality and justice.”

The religious organization said its portfolio does not hold investments in any company working in the West Bank.

The Meeting for Sufferings also reaffirmed a 2011 decision to boycott goods produced in Israeli settlements.

Scott Morrison has refused to sign up to the United Nations migration pact, saying it would compromise Australia’s national interests and border security.

In a statement issued this morning, Mr Morrison said the government had already achieved the goals the deal set out.

And, he said, it failed to distinguish between illegal migrants, and those who arrived “the right way”.

Australia now joins the United States and others, in rejecting the UN pact.

“When we are asked to sign up to international agreements that we believe will compromise our successful way of doing things, we will pass,” Mr Morrison said in a joint statement with Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton, and Foreign Minister, Marise Payne.

“We believe that the compact is inconsistent with our well-established policies and not in Australia’s interests.

“We do not believe that adopting this agreement will add anything to enhancing our capacity to control our borders and manage our successful migration program.”

He said it was promoted as a way to ensure safe, orderly, and regular migration.

“We already achieve all of those goals,” the statement said.

“The compact fails to adequately distinguish between people who enter Australia illegally and those who come to Australia the right way, particularly with respect to the provision of welfare and other benefits.

“The compact would risk encouraging illegal entry and reverse Australia’s hard-won successes in combating the people smuggling trade.

“We will continue to make decisions in Australia’s best interests.”

There have always been hermaphrodites, but this seems to broaden the classification. Apparently about one in 2000 babies born may have “confusing” genitalia, and this is often the subject of surgery. I make that 0.2 per cent. (Source, second link below).

An article in Stuff says the proportion is “just under 2 per cent”, or about 10 times the number.

The writer widens “intersex” definitions, and cites her own “Partial Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome.”

She/He/Whatever says: “… which, not to be too technical about it, means that my body doesn’t quite respond to androgens like testosterone the same way it does for y’all.”

I say “She/He/Whatever” because the crazed liberal elite who have such a big voice in in our media will use the broadened “intersex” in their campaign to edit the third person singular pronouns “he,” “him”, “she,” and “her” out of the English language. They will try to replace them with something new or try to make us use the plural pronouns “They” and “them” for singular as well.

That would lead to rubbish like: “They was the Goddess of Wisdom.”

How will the PC mob get on with the hundreds of languages, including Spanish, Russian, French, German, Hindi, that have gender for all nouns –

  Sex is chromosomal determined but hormones and biology can interfere in regular development. Male babies can fail: testes may not descend or even be formed.
  My youngest was operated on twice to check out undescended testicles and looking for testosterone producing tissue. Neither. Genetically he was typed as male and now he is receiving testosterone injections.

        Both of you are only half right: sex is the genetically determined characteristic, of which the phenotype (physical expression) may be less than totally definite; gender is the social construct; sexuality is the behavioural and psychological expression of gender.

  The least populated state in America, Wyoming, doesn’t have much more, but it has it’s own Governor & Senate plus representatives in Washington DC including two senators just like all the other states, big or small.
  In New Zealand the Chatham Islands is the smallest territorial authority with 600 people and is administered by a council of a mayor and eight councillors. Only twelve less than Auckland.

That was the lowest it has been in any 12 month period since September 2015, and a 12.7% decline compared to the 12 months to October last year.

This is a sad story: Aussie girl gets her wish to be a flower girl before cancer claims her young life.

That Thursday was a dark day, a very dark day. It’s hard when a parent is told your child’s not going to live but to be able to get married the next day meant our hearts sang.

Paige had such excitement about us getting married. Every time we would see people she’d say ‘My mummy and daddy are getting married and I’m going to be a flower girl’.

This isn’t how we planned it, she couldn’t open her eyes, but we had her there and that’s the main thing … she got to feel and hear and sense the love she’s created.”

I feel sorry for parents who go through things like this. She went from healthy to “incurable” in 3 months.

    If this is a genuine question, the quick answer is that God does not will it, but permits it that our free will is respected (including the consequence of the fall) and to allow good to be drawn out of it (medical staff, family, friends etc). I see the bigger more burly policeman we have these days are having trouble fitting into their cars. Not surprised as I have wondered how they managed. surely there is a health and safety issue there.

Comment is made about donut eating and after going to the states you better believe it.

Had to wait a bit at Detroit airpoort so thought to have a coffee. Sat next to the Detroit Police Airport counter.
Two extremely large but short Dark coloured police women were on duty. Both could hardly walk, and sat there for the 45 minutes that I observed, just eating and looking at their phones. One was sat on a golf cart thingy so she could wizz off when needed. Unpleasant looking, fully loaded with gear. Wanted to take a pic but was worried they might come looking for me in their golf car. Old as I am I reckon I could outrun them on foot even with a suitcase to haul.

Apparently an unmarried mother who works in a Waikato takeaway shop has expressed an ambition to follow Jacinda into politics.

    You’re probably right Nostra though career breeding has long been a trait of the bludging class. IOW those who society least needs replicating themselves with gay abandon do & frequently.
    
    Yet fertility keeps dropping. We have five granddaughters & three grandsons between 28 & 17 all going hard at it like rabbits but no results to date.
    
    I don’t know what they’re doing wrong. All I had to do was take my pants off in front of the cook & bingo……she was pregnant! 🙂

  There’s a certain irony (not picked up in media commentary that I’ve seen) in how Michael Woodhouse managed the immigration portfolio:
  
  Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse is taking steps to improve Immigration New Zealand’s decision making authority for cases involving residence class visa holders convicted of a criminal offence.
  
  Currently, Immigration NZ has the ability to make decisions on behalf of the Minister on deportation cases for some residence class visa holders convicted of a criminal offence.
  
  I have made my expectations very clear when it comes to deportation decisions involving offending of this nature and those expectations are not being met. So I am temporarily suspending Immigration NZ’s decision making authority until I have confidence that the decisions being made are consistent with my expectations.
  
  This course of action follows today’s New Zealand Herald article regarding an individual [Sultan Ali Abduri Ali Akbari] whose liability for deportation was suspended, despite the severity of the offending.
  
  Here, though, Immigration New Zealand officials did the right thing – and Ian Lees-Galloway was too busy stroking something (hopefully his beard and not something else) to read the file.
