    If the MSM ever bothered to do a half decent job, ask questions, look into outcomes and stop photo shoots and feelz articles, plus the occasional attack on Simon Bridges National would win the next election on their own.
    
    Labour would revert to their usual 25%, winston would lurk around 4% and the greens would get their usual 7%.
    
    However, that is not going to happen with the current bunch of idiots in the media but I live in hope that 2020 will bring some form of change.

    I drive past Eden park on the way to work everyday around 6.45ish.
    The queue waiting for the hand out needs to be seen to be believed. It is long.
    In the main well padded people clutching cell phones and having smokes in a no smoking area.
    That people see the need to drive to auckland is gobsmacking. the cost in gas would cover the cost of the food that these punters may receive.

      I reckon the number that really need that sort of help might be NO MORE than 1000 NATIONWIDE.
      One of my grandsons, a smart arse 20 year old, and four of his mates lined up at our local food bank “for a laugh”.
      They were each given a carton of cans (various content).
      When I got to hear of it I tore each of them a new arsehole and phoned the food bank organiser. Her response was ” we cannot judge”.

        I checked around and found out it was a Winz voucher to attend a funeral and was not needed.
        How often does this happen?

      In addition, there is much shame in having one’s hand out while other able-bodied citizens work hard for the nation’s benefit.
      Neighbors will talk about lazy good-for-nothing sons. Maybe that’s why some of them refuse to ever leave their rooms.
      
      Call it bullying. Maybe it is. But it is the enforcement of cultural norms from the bottom up. Here in NZ the people are passive and expect the police and government officials to enforce norms from the top down.

      Correct welfare administration is a very delicate balancing act.
      If you don’t give enough welfare to the right people, they will suffer and fall into a condition where they will be little use to society. Do nothing for them, and they will give up hope, become desperate and resort to anti-social means to survive.
      On the other hand, give them too much welfare and they will become addicted to it. Feed the seagulls and eventually they will become fat, lazy birds who no longer know how to fish or look after themselves.
      
      Welfare ought to be privatized and left to societies and non-profit institutions such as the churches or temples to undertake. The state can act as inspectors to ensure that abuse at these institutions is surpressed (since vulnerable people tend to attract predators).
      
      Shrink the State. Reduce the number of bureaucrats. Let the people look after their own lives.

I don’t think there is any way back for a leader and party who’s defining feature is their stance on reducing immigration of animals from 3rd world shitholes – when they sign up to a pact that will open the flood gates to immigration from 3rd world shitholes!

        After our flirtation with MMP over the past 20 years we are heading back to a 2 party situation. IMHO the spread of politics and the number of voters wont sustain fringe parties.
        
        Its the 80/20 Rule. 80% of voters are around the middle of the spectrum with the other 20% spread either side.
        
        And some of that 20% have drifted towards the middle over the years and will continue as long as the 2 main parties fight at the margins.

  I have read the advice provided by Crown Law and MFAT on whether the Compact contains obligations for New Zealand. It is tendentious to say the least. How the authors can purport to know the minds of individual judges when they come to interpret the government’s political commitment to the compact in deciding cases involving immigration law – such as asylum or deportation cases eg Mr Sroubeck – is beyond me. They also assert that the government’s support for the compact will have no impact on New Zealanders’ human rights such as freedom of speech despite the plain text in Objective 17 of the compact. That is their view, tailored to what their masters want to hear at this time, but no more than that. The only useful suggestion they propose is that New Zealand should make an Explanation of Vote when the compact is adopted setting out its understandings on these and other matters. Have we?     I can see it now: the UN will decide it wants to clear out its refugee camps. It will suggest that the Compact supporters take – oh, 10,000 for each million of population?
    If the NZ government of the day demurs, there will pressure from other signees, and howls of horror from the emotional blackmailers, and in they’ll come.

    @madamezucchininz quite amazing to see the worst predictions coming true as two political fools driven by their own agenda combine. As the regal trappings of parliament are being locked away until next year stalled announcements are starting to flow. The old drunk confirms our worse prediction of all that the UN Migration Compact is being signed. Then with the new day the SLG announces she can not sack Haumaha but instead slaps a coat of whitewash over him to compliment his dyed hair. A sort of reverse black and white minstrel who has a unique act of his own.
    Most memorable lie from the SLG this year is “read between the lines” being ranked right up there with Lets do this. It is always apparent how significant the content to read between the lines is by the number of lines the SLG takes to say nothing. Most noticeable on those limited occasions the SLG manages to fit some real work into her busy self promotional program to face OQT. It is taking a lot more words to “address” questions allowed to stretch out by a compliant Speaker who remains ready to run interference. Who better to act tough than an established bully.
    The majority on the other hand have been getting better at joining the dots since it is actions that speak louder than words. Thus the year ends with another work complete as the last two dots are added. The old drunk finally announcing at the last minute as expected the UN Migration Compact will be signed. Followed the very next day by the SLG in her umpire roll declaring Haumaha SAFE!
    While those last dots compete two complete two cartoon like images they are the start of a new image pair of new lines that will eventually ring fence the great divide. The area where the people will be facing the consequences as law and order as we knew it has been eroded. Yep that is as open and transparent as we can expect providing we fill in the lines of the dots.

    I’m not surprised. Most people in India don’t have the means to leave and they have strong family and social connections. But remember that 5 percent of India is 65 million people. Let’s say that only 1 in 100 of those leaving chose New Zealand, which seems plausible, that is 650,000 Indians arriving in New Zealand.

3) That you do not provide false or misleading information, or conceal any relevant information, in your dealings with any government agency during the next five years (starting from your release from prison).

What right did Lees-Galloway have to define a time when false or misleading information applied from.
If coercion will be unacceptable “starting from your release from prison”, is it acceptable while Sroubek is in prison?

The Coalition has just turned Sroubek’s business – drugs – into a health issue, but as a “violence against women” matter, he still exists for us and “50 influential women” to watch the Coalition handle.

So far Ardern and Lees-Galloway are displaying nothing but a total reluctance to engage with it.

    Apparently you can’t “withdraw”. It’s a majority vote in UN. If vote succeeds and you are a member of the UN you are bound by it. You can withdraw only by withdrawing from the UN. Not sure if Vetos apply
    
    And it will succeed because expectant bludging piss-ant countries vastly out number countries that have a reason to protect their borders and asssert their sovereignty. The Labour party should have broken down list of countries that support this compact by countries that are net sources of migration and migration destination countries.
    
    It’s amazing that the promoters of this compact kept this procedural “majority vote” trickery/treachery hidden from even countries like US etc until a few days ago. Unless it was a freshly minted plan to force it through.

  No, don’t split the National vote. All National needs to do is promise a better approach to immigration than its last few years: i.e. accept that the infrastructure of much of NZ can’t take much more, and that many Kiwis enjoy what we have left of space, beaches and parks without wanting far more people.
  
  National needs to promise only people really needed by NZ will be allowed in and only into areas where the infrastructure can handle it.

        The Stats Dept have the facts on their website. Ten years or more of losing people then wham. NO govt would have been prepared to handle the changed infrastructure requirements.
        As for National doing nothing a successful earthquake and GFC recovery were masterly. True we did not get much further on but the fix ups occurred and the economy was stable. Prices were contained and our standard of living not damaged. The rest of the world saw that, wanted to return or were envious.

    National flooded Auckland with over 200,000 people in their last four years in Govt with no improvement in infrastructure.
    They let people in from shit holes knowing about all the employment scams like Indians paying for a ‘job’ from an ’employer’ .

    They also set up Auckland Council under dreadful terms.
    After 8 years Akl Council have not even standardised rubbish collection across the old main four cities.
    What was the rush especially when Nats tell us they did not have time to reform the RMA with their clear majority in 2008 to 2011…but heaps of time to fuck up Auckland.
    
    The result of destroying the 4 larger Cities that were running well (N Shore. Waitakere; Akl Central, Manukau ) is that building new houses stopped as the previous liberal approach by Waitakere and Manukau to granting building consent came to a screeching halt.
    This meant no new houses, major house price rises on existing stock, and cramming people into a city where they don’t add value and just pile on to the service industry.
    You don’t get rich selling existing houses to each other and importing more fridges and washing machines from China.
    
    Every Mayor of the major cities under National came from the Labour party . Akl, Wtn, ChCh.
    This is pretty much locked in now.
    
    There would have been no need for the Auckland Council if idiot Bolger’s Govt in the early 1990s had not stripped the newly created planning powers from the 1989 created Auckland Regional Council (ARC).
    That was vindictive and stupid behaviour but everything Bolger has ever done has been a cock up including his time at Kiwirail and NZ Post.
    Bolger gave NZ leaky homes.
    
    Down tick me all you like in blind fury that I criticize Nats but also take some action and kick your Nat MP in the arse until they move away from UN directives and centre left policies.
    
    It was National that snuck through UN policy 2334 berating Israel on 23 Dec 2016 (our Xmas eve by then) two years ago this week!

      We also should remember that, shortly after he became PM, John Key slyly sent Pita Sharples to slink off to the UN, to get Maori officially recognised as the indigenous people of New Zealand (despite the fact that no ethno-racial group is indigenous to these islands). There was no preceding public announcement or debate; their bogus status has greatly aided Maori in making many outrageous claims on the largess of the state.

  The only thing I can take from that is you are unhappy with either their positioning in our political spectrum or the calibre of their people.
  Under Key they drifted superficially to the left, but as we are now seeing they didn’t address some key areas that any government must tackle around state sector renumeration and housing speculation.
  Anyone that’s been in kahoots with the Nats previously has been rejected by the voters except NZF. I think rather than look for another partner & right now there’s none on the horizon, they should undermine Labour’s mates to make it a two horse race.
  Labour ain’t dumb, however, and have come up with the binding Cannabis referendum to prop up the Greens. On current polling, that’s all they need. I doubt if they care if Winston dips out.

Why are NZs being compromised and denied the truth and information of the direction the Peters gang of selected losers are taking a once open and democratic NZ to .

Where is the response to Massey University’s whitewashing report exonerating the vice chancellor? I thought there were credible e-mails that indicated that she lied. This would be a wonderful opportunity for someone to look into the university’s cover-up and smooth-over. Do nothing, and the university (and their fellow institutions) will be emboldened to attempt the same strategy next time.

I have heard nothing in the NZ Herald about the threat to sovereignty that the UN “non-binding” pact poses. All entities must have borders that they can control; otherwise they can no longer be considered to be entities (but maybe that’s the whole idea…)

      Trump was getting the same treatment early in the election cycle so he went directly to the people via social media and his rallies.
      
      He received virtually no positive media coverage other than a bit through Fox but he galvanised the American people against the media.
      
      When you look at his election, it is a remarkable effort considering the absolute vitriol, lies and accusations heaped on him by the media.
      
      The media here are doing the same to Simon Bridges. A day doesn’t go by without a snide article appearing in the media phrased by a snivelling little sycophant wannabee journalist.

    Here is a simple idea for them –will cost nothing but a little bit of time.
    Today the talkback is supposedly running hot against the Govt on this UN issue. Why doesn’t Bridges ( or some other senior Nat MP) organise a group of the National MPs and get them on the phone to call some of the talk back stations ( just as an ordinary listener would) and put the parties position out there. It would only take 10-15 minutes of their time and they would, if they were any good, show they are just like any other concerned NZer –one of us, just like John Key had the natural ability to do.
    They could do this on any topical issue.

One woman was stabbed 175 times and another hit 40 times with an axe, bludgeoned repeatedly and battered virtually beyond all recognition. Additionally, a number of cases involved desecration, mutilation and the hiding of the body after death.

This shows hate and rage towards the victim, which is at odds with the accommodating and exculpatory narrative that often accompanies men’s killings, for example that he “just flipped”, was “upset”, “lost the love of his life”, was “depressed” or “momentarily lost control”.

Writer Suzanne Moore headlines another article as “Lone-wolf terrorism and domestic violence: it’s time to start joining the dots”

This UN Migration Compact is an attempt to make hijra (Islamic migration) a human right, while at the same time undermining a nation’s sovereignty.

The government has welcomed the release of an open letter from 50 influential women calling for more to be done to stop violence against women.

I haven’t ventured to the cesspit that is WhaleOil lately (don’t want to give it the benefit of an additional page-visit), but I’m guessing that Cameron Slater will not be a happy camper about Simon Bridges recent performance.

So far Bridges is doing extremely well as National leader. He navigated through the JLR disaster with little or no lasting damage. He has kept his caucus disciplined and on-message with no external signs of dissent. He has kept the pressure solidly on Labour and Ardern over the Sroubek issue, and looks set to continue to do so into 2019. And my observation (purely anecdotal) is that he seems to have even won over a lot of his doubters here on KiwiBlog.

I’m guessing that Slater, like the resident lefties here on KB, will be obsessively focusing on the one negative spot for Bridges – his low rating in the most recent Preferred Prime Minister rankings. Never mind that for an opposition leader in the middle of an electoral cycle that number means 3/10th of sweet FA.

  Cam has posted little if any since he was ordered to take down a major portion of a posting at the start of the Bloomfield trial. One can speculate whether he is keeping his head down for legal reasons or if there is some other issue. Seems ‘Spanish Bride’ and associates such as ‘Christie’ are keeping the Whaleoil site ticking over.
  The anti Bridges brigade presumably want to see Judith installed as National’s leader and National to swing right. Trouble is, they are out of touch with reality. I suspect National’s caucus would only vote Judith leader out of desperation, similar to Labour appointing Jacinda at the last minute. Those who want National to swing right are dreaming – it will lose more votes than it will gain. Any idea that voting Winston to get him to get National to swing to the right are out of the window.     Yesterday I would have agreed that was Winston Peters’ goal. But then today he goes and signs the UN Pact on Migration, which has done some pretty major damage to NZ First’s chances of re-election (which weren’t looking that great to begin with).
    
    I’m struggling to think of a motive for Peters to agree to this. About the only thing I’m coming up with is he has decided to retire from politics and has horse-traded NZ First support for some new bauble (a knighthood maybe?).

      I suspect Jacinda ‘bottom lined’ it. The thing about the present government is any of the three COL partners can pull the pin on the Government so there will be continuing brinkmanship on keeping the thing going or it imploding over policy differences. Because Simon continues to consolidate his position and score effective hits off the government, the probability of the coalition surviving after any implosion is diminishing. This will put increasing pressure on the Labour/Green relationship with NZ First.

It was interesting that Findlayson made no mention of Simon and his team whilst noting Kaye and Brownlee. Brownlee very deserved of course and Kaye yet to distinguish herself but hard working no doubt.

Clearly there was/is a faction in National that didn’t like people like Findlayson and he didn’t like them.
Simon so far is doing better than most people though and seems to have discipline in hand.

National need to move more to centre right and abandon the left. They need to constrain the conservatism that has bound them in the past. the drug debate is a prime example of that. Despite spending more and more money, alienating more and more people they have achieved fuck all because they are attempting to change Human Nature and people don’t respond to that.

Wait till the new social wage rises impact on everyone. There will be more cries to increase benefits, more cries about the cost of living and so on./ The country needs a regig of all that stuff.
Airnz of course will be happy with people TRAVELLING ON THE STATE.

AND NO MENTION IS THE NEWS SITES OF WINSTONS TREASON.

    I’d like to agree with you, but if he returns to representing iwi, as he did before entering parliament, he may yet be a significant figure in Maori-Crown relations. Unfortunately, he now has a good deal of inside knowledge which he can use to secure advantages for his clients.
    We can be sure that we’ve not heard the last of him, I’m sorry to say. I feel that he’s a fragile man who readily bears a grudge, and one way to get his own back (as he possibly sees it) is to screw the government for all it’s worth – and then the rest of us will be the poorer for it.

    We used to restructure loans to assist people who had over committed, a sort of pro bono service attached to our primary business at the time.
    
    What a waste of time. Generally, they were back within months having used the “excess” income we had generated for the to sign up more HP or personal loans for more useless shit.
    
    We gave up eventually as it was just so frustrating seeing complete idiots determined to remain “broke”. I guess it was like having steffy girl post mindless drivel on here almost daily, some people just can’t be helped.

Here is a review of Making a Murderer season 2. If anyone here has watched it, this review leads to an extraordinary conclusion. This guy quickly proved Amanda Knox was innocent and helped orchestrate her exoneration. The US state department put intolerable pressure on the Italian government. That is what happened.
He is deeply involved in the Mark Lundy case.

“My approach is to pare the evidence down to the key facts that are reliable and relevant, and use those facts to figure out what most likely happened.

The facts lead to implications, which are not absolute, but are probable.

With Halbach, here are the key facts:

– Her blood was found in the back of her car, in the form of transfer stains that appear to be from bloody hair. This implies that her body was loaded into the back of her car after she was killed.

– Cast off blood spatter was found on the inside of the rear cargo door on her car. This implies that someone attacked her with a blunt weapon when she was standing behind the car with the door open.

– Her incinerated remains were found in Avery’s burn pit, in a nearby barrel, and at another location in a gravel quarry. That implies her body was incinerated, and the remains were transported to Avery’s yard.

– The last time her cell phone connected with a tower, it was several miles from the Avery property, along the route she would have taken to get home. This implies she left the Avery property before she was murdered.

– Small-caliber bullet holes were found in skull fragments recovered from the burn pile in Avery’s yard. This implies she was shot in the head.

– Various elements of physical evidence appear to have been planted on Avery’s property. The car seems to have been moved to Avery’s junkyard by Ryan Hillegas under the supervision of the police. Avery’s blood in the car appears to have been smeared on with a cotton swab. The incinerated remains were obviously transported because they were in a barrel as well as the burn pile. The car key was only found after the room had been thoroughly searched three times, and the DNA test was off the charts for touch DNA. The bullet in the garage appears to have been dug out of a piece of wood. This implies that someone set out to frame Avery for the murder.

So what happened in this case? I think the most likely answer is that Halbach left Avery’s property, and someone intercepted her. He lured her to a remote place, he killed her, and he loaded her body in the back of her car. Over the next several days he incinerated her body and planted physical evidence linking the crime to Avery.

Many people who follow this case can see that something like this happened. But they have conjured up a two-party scenario in which Party A committed the murder, and Party B stumbled on the evidence and used it to frame Avery. I don’t think so. As you say, I want to keep the moving parts to a minimum.

I think one party, which could include more than one individual, engineered this crime from the start. They bore no animosity toward Teresa Halbach, but they were desperate to discredit Avery, who was bearing down on all they held dear with an eight-figure lawsuit.

It worked like a charm. The lawsuit was settled for pennies on the dollar.

I cannot see how anyone but a cop could have pulled that off. His badge placed him above suspicion and allowed him to act with near impunity. He could approach the victim and get her to do whatever he asked. His experience vested him with the skills of a professional killer. He could steer the investigation from the inside. He had access to the crime scene and knowledge of what other investigators were thinking and doing at all times.”

Most will recall hearing sweet cheeks grabbing any quarterly that moved downwards as the sky falling for NZ. Always cautioned quietly by Bill English to see it as just part of the big picture as well as where things were in respect of forecast movements.
  However this sharp slump is more significant since there has been a longer lag time as the good times resulting from previous fiscal responsible approach have continued to flow. It is now starting to move at what might be an accelerated rate to confirm predictions of realistic observers as the free spending moves from allocation to expenditure. The snowball effect will be visual as the even greater follow on expenditure of annual and future commitments being reached. It will be interesting when it gets to the June quarterly 2019 where more of the unintended consequences have started to kick in. Already on the back of this slump and perhaps signing the UN Migration Pact the NZ dollar dropped almost $0.015.

United Nations UN – Programme of Action (POA) – combating and eradicating illicit trade of small arms. The POA have previously stated that they would not interfere with sovereign laws. At the July 2018 UN POA meeting they amended their programme so they now say that they want to strengthen national laws. This is a concerning turn of events and something COLFO will watch closely as to how this could be implemented going forward.

So you already have a case of a ‘non-binding’ agreement signed by NZ subject to efforts to bound New Zealand.

This is a pretty solid point to be made by anyone engaged in debate on this issue from the National Party.

GDP per capita growth is zero for the quarter, or actually down about 0.04 per cent.

GDP itself rose just 0.3 per cent for the quarter.

    NZ’s economy floats on an international trade and financial whirlpool. The lower fuel prices are due to the global oil markets dropping. Mortgage rates are low because of the surplus liquidity created by global reserve banks to rescue themselves from a previous crisis. That is now being readjusted and it will be worse than before.
    
    Some recent government benefit increases will give Christmas spending but they also are reflected in the balance of payments. What we spend in NZ affects our accounts with the world so our export receipts are critical.
    
    Confidence was what we had at Christmas 2016–now it’s hoped for.

Quarterly economic growth slowed more than expected to its lowest level in nearly five years in September, according to the latest Statistics NZ figures.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose 0.3% in the three months to September, down from 1.0% in the previous quarter.

    When I was a younger fellow, we had a couple of cops who were short on patience but long on education. I never saw a drunk, a bully or a crim stand up to them and for very good reasons.

The galloping retreat of the housing investor witnessed in October has been repeated – and more so – in November, according to the Reserve Bank’s latest monthly borrowing by lender type figures.

The figures show that investors accounted for just $1.091 billion of the $6.224 billion worth of mortgages advanced by both banks and non-banking institutions in November.

That’s a share of just 17.5%, which is easily a new low since these figures were first released by the RBNZ in August 2014.
