Yesterday evening the NZ Herald had, as their lead story ‘Looking Yummy – Woman’s Shock at Bus Driver’s Comment’

LOL can’t wait for you to go behind a pay wall.

Also yesterday on RNZ, Kim Hill conducts a fawning interview with Annette King among the other weekly assorted interviews with gay or transgender people of colour (who always hate Trump and are unhappy about Global Warming and inequality etc).

Discussed Annette’s gay husband, her daughter’s appalling behaviour and other personal stories but nothing at all about the time Darren Hughes stayed over.

Now it is different, we allow the present enemy in with open arms, but the Japanese are now friends and they make magnificent motor vehicles.     But – an internment camp is not a concentration camp. To suggest the two are the same is a travesty of history and demonstrates just how ignorant we have become. I don’t see anything objectionable about the policewoman running an internment camp I’ve no doubt she was a compassionate and caring manager within the rules of the time.

    Jp – if this is all true and not a case of accidental neglect of babies and young children, then the debate needs to be had urgently about the number of people having children they either don’t want or can’t afford to look after.
    I know this is a taboo subject in NZ – we are not allowed to criticise or “ judge” parenting – but this is getting ridiculous.
    There is absolutely no reason for people to keep having unwanted children – it is an indulgence.
    If you are living in “poverty” having another child will not help anyone.

        As for under 5s fainting at daycare? Most daycares won’t take kids over 3 for just the 20 free hours. And it costs too much money to place under 3s into daycare unless you’ve got a decent income. Often parents, mothers AND fathers have to enroll them for 30 hrs plus to hold the placement. And they charge enough friggen money to do so, while most parents work, or study.
        
        When I returned to work , my boy was fed breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon tea at his childcare program. Often his stomach was so full he’d only want toast or weetbix for tea. From what I hear from working parents that hasn’t changed.
        
        So I’m calling bullshit on fainting kids.

  ….having a grandson that we have helped raise due to the daughter working…..we have had a lot to do with preschools …..”children fainting from hunger at preschools”…..what a load of nonsense…..there are a few that turn up with inadequate clothing & food…..but really ….there is not a preschool teacher that I have met that would “allow” a child to sit there without any food…..let alone faint from starvation….

Surely we would have heard about this as Police and Social Services would clearly be all over it?…

Happy Saint Himelin’s day to you all.

Himelin was an 8th century Irish priest who fell ill in Belgium when returning from from a pilgrimage to Rome. He asked a girl for some water. She refused, as there was bubonic plague in the area. However, after much insistence from Himelin, she finally gave him a pitcher of water, which miraculously turned into wine. Himelin died three days later of the plague.

No mention of this saint’s patronage of anything significant. Perhaps I should write to Pope Frankie and suggest that Himelin would be an ideal patron saint for chlorination.

  And not everyone wil be able to use the “family home” CGT exemption. If your “family home” (in which, as in our case, you may have lived in the country for 18 years) sits on a land area a little more than 4,500 m², you will pay CGT on sale as if the property was providing rental income. There are thousands of up-to-10-acre “family home” blocks throughout NZ (10 acres = 40, 500 m² approximately), and each will be caught on sale by the intended CGT.
  
  That’s the kind of mean-spirited approach that is favoured enthusiastically by Cullen, Ardern & co. They won’t have any regard for ‘family’ issues or or the unfairness of retrospectivity; they’ll just give you a choice of paying CGT on your family home if you choose to stay, or selling up and moving in the near future.
  
  These people leading our country are evil in the manner that they choose to tamper with the deep-rooted social fabric of well-established rural communities. All in their never-ending quest to implement their agenda against so-called “rich pricks” who are always in their sights.

      In any event, what I’ve read indicates that a home on a block of land greater that 4,50o sq. metres will not qualify as a “family home”. I would love it to be otherwise. Even though there would be minimal immediate value added (post the forthcoming “valuation day”) the prospect posed by the arbitrary “4,500 sq. metres cut-off point will queer the pitch in negotiations on price in the near future for the sale of our non-“family-home” residence.

Casual observations from a trip to Auckland over the last few days.
1 Why would anyone use the light rail, which as I understand doesn’t even go to the airport directly, when the bus in took 40 minutes at 6pm and the one to the airport 28 minutes.
2 It doesn’t look like Jacinda has walked down Queen Street for a while. Lots of homeless late at night and early in the morning sleeping on benches so the real homeless.
3 Observed a construction site while having breakfast. About 14 people milling around, no-one doing much work for 40 minutes and 2 having an argument that lasted 25 minutes. In China and Singapore they would have added an extra floor in that time.
4 I hadn’t been to Auckland for a couple of years but it seemed to me that the same streets were closed due to the city rail link and not much progress had been made.

And it rained!!

Racing from one set of the lights to the next was a pastime for many hoons, but the quality and variety of shops was the main attraction. I rarely venture into that area now as it is so depressing and I wonder how long will it be before it is another LA or SanFranciso.

Actually, it wouldn’t surprise if the absolute number of farmers has decreased over the last 50 years what with larger, more factory-style farming. As the cost of housing falls to the point where a man can support a wife and 3 children on his income (and pay the mortgage), people will start to have larger families.

  – welfare payments in proportion to the number of dependent children
  – agencies who will take away the children (remove the problem) if it all gets to be too much
  – elevation on the “victim,” “neediness” and “moral superiority” ranking
  – a society which does not require people to take responsibility for their actions
  – a society that cannot tolerate the notion of children dying of malnutrition and neglect and will intervene to prevent this
  – a society that does not sterilize parents who allow their children to die of malnutrition and neglect

  My first placement, I took on 7 foster kids Had them for 4 months. Teenagers were hardest to handle, no surprises there. The younger ones were happy to be fed and clothed and allowed to be kids without being constantly yelled at. Routines are always difficult for kids who have known no boundaries. Nowadays 2 is all I take on at one time. Fairer on my own 12 yr old son.
  
  I admire this couple. They’re likely in it for the long haul with this placement. It’s a brave and wonderful thing they do.

    Maggie , our children started their education via the Correspondence School due to distance.
    However, even back then, the rural function of the school was being overtaken in a big way by other demands for service. These included adult learners,
    people in prisons and courses for students in smaller high schools where specialist teachers were not employed.
    So I wouldn’t be at all surprised if some Te Kura students march. Maybe not prisoners – although……

      The Correspondence School’s online page is mainly in Maori. The 95 per cent of New Zealanders who don’t speak Maori might use the help of an online dictionary.
      
      In addition to Maori there is a classic of NZ Pidgin – the words “My Te Kura”, which is the title given to the school’s online section. “My” is English and “Te Kura” is Maori.
      
      The Correspondence School now calls itself in full Aho o Te Kura Pounamu. Subjects at the school include digital technology and Chinese and Japanese languages, but they are now joined by topics like kaupapa Maori and Samoan language. Perhaps next will be Tongan, Cook Islands Maori, Nieuan, Tokelau’s Foa’i, Fijian, Vanutatu’s Bislama creole, Kiribati – then Tahitian. Been on several road trips recently observing market forces at work. Average price of diesel in Auckland was $1.57, supposedly including the twelve cents per litre tax. Price inGisborne around $1.50, and price here in Waikanae is $1.61.
Now, all Phar Goff wants is 12c/litre. He cares not who paid it.
The retailers will want remain competitive so rather than add 12c/l in Auckland they compete where they can and add a little bit everywhere. Then when it comes time to pay Phar Goff his levy they tot up the number of litres sold in Auckland, and write a cheque. Who is paying for the disaster that is Auckland? We all are. And here we have a government that understands market forces!!

Does this style of fighting have a big following in NZ?

A world title match featuring two from New Zealand is likely coming up in mixed-martial-arts fighting, which seems to rival boxing for numbers of TV followers among young Americans. Or should we say one fighter from NZ and now an Australian, and the other from Nigeria and now a New Zealander.

The title fight would be between a New Zealand-born Aussie and a Nigerian-born New Zealander.

The Hooerald today describes how Israel Adesanya, a Nigerian-born New Zealander, beat the Brazilian Anderson Silva to become No. 5 middle-weight in America’s Ultimate Fighting Championship rankings. (The rankings are at the link below.) Silva, known as “the Spider”, earlier was the middleweight champion of the UFC for years.

Adensanya now seems to be close to a match with New Zealand-born Australian Robert Whittaker, who on the night of Adensanya’s win, because of suffering a hernia needing medical attention, withdrew from his UFC middleweight title-defence fight, against Kevin Gastelum.

Whittaker’s father is an Aussie and his mother is a New Zealander with Maori and Samoan ancestry. He says he was “completely raised” in Australia. Whittaker uses the fighting names the Reaper and Bobby Knuckles.

Just back home from atending Communion at Holy Trinity in Parnel. Always a wonderul experience and a great opportunity to show off a new outfit. Called into Bakers Delight on the way past to get my partner his cinnamon scroll for lunch. Thort i’d try some of ther hot cross buns and will report back on those later. And heres a little tip for all you HXB lovers – never use a knife to cut your buns in half – always tear them by poking your thumbnail thru the middle and then put under the oven grill. That way they absorb about twice as much butter. SOOOO YUMMY!!

Is any member of the hub of news folk guilty of drug offences?

Is any member of the media guilty of having sexual relations with married MPs, whilst at the same time reporting on them, in any light?

Is any member of the media guilty of collusion with any members of the current govt to keep important and consequential facts out of the public arena?

If any of the above is verifiably true, and that’s an impt IF, does anyone have the stones to publicly report it? The 4th estate needs to be trusted after all.

  Heat large pots of water on fire
  Fill up tin bath with water

  This was what many people did decades ago.

  Journalism’s main problem is that propoganda is not something an end user will pay for, however a ruling political class certainly would, which explains a lot.
  
  When journalists are not indulging in propoganda, they’re often offering womens-mag level gossip, also something few end-users will pay for.
  
  There are a few journalists and commentators who do remain above all this, but, from what I can see, that pool appears to be rather small. I’ll gladly pay for analysis and thoughtful commentary from such people.
  
  Hopefully a new form of media will emerge.

She has serious serious mental issues and major conspiracy theories about everything

Apart from community risk I think it’s really unfair that she’s chucked into a open community situation without any real support. She should actually be in residential care

A young woman was about to finish her first year of university.

Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be Labour Party minded, and she was very much in favour of higher taxes to support her education and for more government programs – in other words, the redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch blue-ribbon Conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had attended, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harboured a selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors must be the truth, and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing at university.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 90% average, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many university friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, “How is your friend Audrey doing?” She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 50% average. She is so popular on campus; university for her is a blast. She’s always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.”

Her wise father asked his daughter, “Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct 20% off your average and give it to your friend who only has 50%. That way you will both have a 70% average, it would be fair and you would both be equal.”

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion, angrily fired back, “That’s a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I’ve worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!”

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, “Welcome to the Conservative side of the fence.”

If a Labour/Green is gay, she/he demands legislated respect.

If a Conservative is down-and-out, she/he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Labour/Green wonders who is going to take care of her/him.

If a Conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, she/he switches channels.
Labour/Greens demand that those they don’t like should be banned.

If a Conservative is a non-believer, she/he doesn’t go to church.
A Labour/Green non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it’s a foreign religion, of course!)

  What if – and this is a long bow so hear me out – what if the all objections to the CGT aren’t being driven by property-owning monsters, and in fact a fair chunk was coming from either people who have taken a risk and employed people through businesses they’ve mortgaged their houses to get off the ground, or experienced tax and accounting professionals who can see massive issues with the taxes themselves and whether they’re likely to achieve their stated aims, let alone the kind of perverse incentives they’ll trigger?
  
  Because I can’t help but feel the fact that the politician, academics, economists and unionists who voted for the main report kind of lack the authority on these matters that the former IRD Deputy Commissioner, a former tax partner and the business group representative have. And that, perhaps – again, a massive leap here – their refusal to endorse the type of taxation by envy method of tax reform the report proposes might actually be quite telling of something: namely that the people splashing about in the shallow end of the pool might want to listen to the lifeguards before they go to the deep end to piss in it.

    Thanks Maggy. What I am trying to ascertain is whether or not BOTs could take legal action against any teacher who encourages students to miss school on the so-called strike. It might just put a dampener on their enthusiasm and put any politician who support this in a difficult situation, as they are supposed to uphold the law.

      If a child fails to attend school, it is the parent-care-giver that is held responsible (not the teacher).

        But a teacher should not be engaging in any act that results or encourages a student or parent in breaking the law??? If a teacher encouraged a student to hold up a bank, would that teacher be charged as an accessory to the crime? If so, surely the same logic applies here as well? I am just teasing this out, hoping that someone with a legal background could enlighten us.

  Absolute alarmist crap. I could debunk everyone of the points but couldn’t be bothered. A warmer world is a more benign world with larger areas currently too cold for crops being opened up. More people die from colder conditions than warmer ones. Famine and crop failures occur in colder conditions and not even the IPCC state with certainty the link between a warmer earth and increased extreme weather events. Patrick Moore has argued that at 280 ppm CO2 levels are dangerously close to the level (150ppm) at which green plant material cease to survive. 1998 was the warmest year and the temperature has been slowly decreasing since then, and the reduction in Solar activity is going to increase that trend. Ask the people fucking freezing to death in Chicago. The warmist alarmists are bonkers and the SLG believes all this crap.
