I read ‘Sir Michael Cullen’s’ post yesterday and with respect because he’s a funny guy I believe it’s a load of codswallop.

National are extremely likely to govern alone in 2020. Just cos it hasn’t happened under MMP doesn’t mean it won’t. MMP is about 20 minutes old. This is the worst, dumbest most inept Administration New Zealand may have ever had in its entire history.

All National have to do is:

Tell NZers Jacinta wants to tax Lotto and their Kiwisaver accounts
Rule out working with Peters
Remind the public that Jacinta’s coalition partner think it’s OK to use the word C**t in front of little kids and want to tax the family home
Keep the Sroubek thing on ice, maybe drop the intel right about now next year (cos it’s a beauty)
Remind NZers each and every household would have had the thick end of $10,000 in tax cuts by now but they pissed it away

    The Nats. also need to get their head around drug laws, charter schools and moving the unions on or even better vouchers for education and health, Selling stuff the taxpayer doesn’t need to pay for,like school buildings, hospital buildings, radio stations, TV stations, et al.
    
    Lots for them to do to earn the votes.

      Plus the financial and social impact of the UN Compact. Long waiting lists wait till these guys arrive. For us there will be no list at all – refugees will always be the priority because most of them have acute conditions (mental and physical), some not seen here before.

  It’s not a long term strategy, i.e. if it walking alone in 2020 works, I doubt it will work again in 2023.
  
  I thought Key was clever at the time in 2008 for including the then un-needed Maori Party (ACT and Peter Dunne were enough at the time).
  
  It appears the CGT will sink the COL in 2020 but voters will have forgotten that spectre in 2023 (unless Labour-Greens re-purpose the CGT as their main policy but I doubt they will).

    Strategy:
    Win the electorate votes:
    1. With each electorate, you get a funded office and your opponent doesn’t (and need to fund it themselves)
    2. Make sure your electorate office is ALWAYS staffed and that you are there, working in your local community, OFTEN.
    Giving yourself the advantage of visibility.
    Achieve this by:
    1. Choosing candidates this year. (yes that means hard work…so what)
    2. Get those candidates out into the community and visible. Doing something useful, not just shaking hands and kissing babies.
    Candidates, especially new ones, attend council meetings, find out what YOUR electorate NEEDS and WANTS. Feed that back to your team in parliament, get it in the public eye.
    Get your thoughts and feelings into local press.

        we need to build a culture and a permanence. We are doing well and have done for years, but are about 3%-5% short of that.
        Party votes get you in now, electorate votes keep you there.

      At first I thought this was a holy joke and I was too thick to get the punchline.
      
      I think you’re likely right, because that’s the big win for Winston First.
      
      If he pulls the “savior” stunt now he will lose and not have an baubles. The CoL falls apart. Maybe a Labour/Green CoL would be able to pull it together and Winston First is history.
      
      The best for Winston is to bide his time. Grab all the baubles he can until, say, April 2020. Then he shanks Labour and saves us from ourselves.
      
      No doubt he’ll also put the boot in to National: they had 3 years in opposition to sort out Labour but didn’t do it. I had to do this! I’m the best!

  Peters controls the fate of the coalition. If Ardern upsets him, he will throw his toys as he did with Jenny Shipley, and the coalition will collapse. Her only alternative is to tolerate Jones’ clear conflict of interest and the stench of corruption and collusion it has created. But that will hurt her too.
  
  Bolger barely survived sacking Peters as a Minister in 1992. He just won re-election in 1993, then had to go into coalition with Peters in 1996. Shipley did not survive sacking Peters as a Minister in 1998, and Helen Clark did not survive standing Peters down as Foreign Minister in 2008.
  
  Winston Peters had brought down every government he has been a part of, one way or another. There is no reason to suspect that anything has changed in 2019, and I predict it is a matter of when, not if, the coalition government implodes.

        Apparently she visited Mount Albert Grammar last Friday. Apart from one mention on the school website no other comment. Even my oldest who attends that school made no mention.
        It would seem that she and others like Robertson and Twyford are keeping their heads down and not making public statements. Probably following the old advise that it is better to keep one’s mouth shut and be thought a fool than open it and confirm that one is in fact a fool.

    I only caught the second half where Hosking was dealing to her on Kiwibuild. She was obviously flustered from the kicking he’d given her over Shane Jones’ corruption in the first segment.
    
    At one point Hosking was pulling Taxinda up for her nonsense and all she could petulantly pout was “I’m happy to let you debate by yourself Mike but I actually have a contribution to make” or words to that effect.

      Hosking absolutely aced that interview, as evidenced by his comment after the interview ended that “and we didn’t even get to the CGT!”
      
      This Labour-led government is a living, breathing trainwreck. Kiwibuild has now built 79 houses according to MBIE, but only 37 of those have been sold. The CGT debacle speaks for itself. There are plenty of scandals in health, especially David Clark’s arbitrary decision not to vaccinate every child in Northland against the new strain of meningitis. Hipkins’ education reforms have already run into difficulties, and despite the Families Package last year, 64,000 children have NOT been “lifted out of poverty” as the PM promised.
      
      I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Ardern stops her Tuesday morning interview round shortly; she is getting kicked from pillar to post by interviewers like Hosking and Espiner, who see past the stardust and the bulldust. Even Barry Soper has had some of the scales fall from his eyes.

        I’m not sure sga where you get your bitterness from.
        
        WFF was clark/cullen’s gambit for re-election in 2005. By 2008 it was entrenched and rather difficult to roll back especially with the arrival of a GFC and a couple of significant natural disasters.
        
        The “targeted: welfare that Sir William English was pushing through had already made significant changes to welfare delivery within NZ.
        
        Charter schools were gaining traction and results and all this was being done within a budget.
        
        NZ is a “welfare state” and I thought National were slowly eroding the mentality that many have whereas labour/greens are expanding that mentality.
        
        If you cannot see a difference then you are blind.

In my opinion, over the last 50 years successive National and Labour Governments have made little major or significant headway on the issue of intergenerational welfare dependence (which is what we are talking about). That’s not “bitterness” (not exactly sure what you mean by that, but whatever), just my assessment of what I see.

        SGA, I have stated that we are a “welfare state” but the previous government was laking a difference and I see no reason that the National Government of 2020 will do any less.
        
        It cannot be done overnight and the “expectation” of bottom feeders has been raised by ardern the liar and her ilk.

I have visited Addis Ababa (flying Emirates, although we did internal flights on Ethiopian Airlines), and the presence of UN and African Union personnel there do a fantastic job.       It’s always the same in NZ in recent times.
      There are a hardcore who will always vote for or at least never vote against a particular party.
      There are some who can’t be bothered because they don’t think their vote means a bag of beans and there are some who won’t know there’s an election on.
      It’s the swinging voters that decide and next time it’ll be swinging between small parties & big parties, I’m guessing. A lot of people like Shane Jones kicking the fat cats in the arse style. A lot of people don’t too.

    What also needs to be emphasised is that in order for the tax to be “revenue neutral” more tax needs to be extracted from the economy to cover implementation and increased compliance costs.
    
    The luddites perceive a potential windfall as the government adjusts other tax rates down to compensate for the imagined CGT revenue.

  I’m not sure what to make of the backlash against MJ’s music one way or the other. He’s dead now so he’s not directly benefitting from the royalities. I’m reminded about the uneasy relationship Jews have with the music of Wagner. None of his operas have ever been performed in Israel, although there have been occasional performances of his music in concert, and it’s not banned from the state radio. A Jewish friend of mine despised Wagner as a man, but couldn’t help but love his music.

Last night I watched Part 1 of the ‘Leaving Neverland’ exposé that I had recorded.

When that despicable animal Jackson was alive, I was very outspoken among my family and social group in saying that it was disgusting and deeply unhealthy that he was so insanely popular.

On stage this creature looked, acted and ‘sang’ like a violent malevolent sex robot which had been designed by aliens. It amazed me that anybody could watch it and feel anything other than repulsion. That it was so hugely popular signified the depth of degradation to which Western civilisation had shrunk.

On viewing this TV programme the one thing which stood out for me was the incredible stupidity and lack of basic decency that those mothers displayed. One can’t blame the two boys – they were just children – but for a mother to allow this to happen to her child is frankly unbelievable.

The parents of these children deserve to be prosecuted for child sex trafficking, neglect and abuse of a minor. How could anybody in their right mind allow their child to have anything to do with that androgynous weird creature… let alone sleep on his bedroom? Seriously…?

I felt sullied by having watched Part 1. I don’t think I’ll watch Part II.

  I agree with all you say. I am not just saying this now, having watched most, but not all of the documentaries, I always thought he was a freak and extremely suspect. I totally believed the boys who took cases against him. The tragedy is that the juries were so dazzled by his star power they couldn’t see the truth. One jury member admitted that she found him not guilty because someone on the prosecution side winked at her and she wasn’t having that. Both mothers are utterly appalling, evil, star dazzled women. The Australian one couldn’t have cared less about the pain she inflicted on her family, including the heart broken suicide of her husband. Those poor little boys.

There’s an article at The Spinoff about the Extinction Rebellion protest movement. Some excerpts;

The third goal is more amorphous and could potentially be a huge political sticking point – “a national Citizen’s Assembly to oversee the changes, as part of creating a democracy fit for purpose.”

It’s not clear exactly what “a democract fit for purpose” even means; but I’d place a large bet that in practice it means “a democracy where the government does what we want, regardless of what the plebes vote for”.

Outside Auckland, anti-1080 activists are said to have attempted to redirect discussion to their cause.

New Zealand organisers are working on wording to include the role of Te Tiriti in their objectives.

The treaty and 1080 have absolutely nothing to do with reducing emissions.

This movement has all the same flaws as the Green New Deal. First, it’s getting hijacked to push agendas that have absolutely nothing to do with climate change. Second, its vague about exactly what policies they are pushing. And third, to the extent they are specific about policies it’s nothing but all the same non-viable ideas Green groups have been pushing for decades.

There is absolutely nothing new or useful here – the only thing that has changed is people are getting more worked up.

It does seem to be an undeniable likeness. If they are correct will the games maker be charged by police. OOOOppppps….. looks like Liane Dalziel and her husband have been running a bit fine to wind with the Chinese water bottlers. No impropriety is insinuated but 3 things struck me here:
1) How nepotistic is ChCh? Dalziels stepson is on the council with her! Did the voters know that at the time?
2) Davidson first said “no”, then backtracked when challenged by Stuff. Where have we seen that before?
3) This is basically an environmental issue, and it appears Stuff environmental reporter may be the hangman for Dalziel and her council. It would be beautifully ironic that Labour affiliated local body politicians get quartered over the very issue their supposed COL partners are meant to pursue.

As long as you aren’t extracting water at a greater rate than the replenishment then what’s the problem? Another thing is why people are stupid enough to buy the product.         The only useful bottled water I have found is one from around Auckland that is distilled. According to some Geeks, distilled water is best for cleaning LED computer screens and TVs. One bottle is sufficient for a year or two, depending on how many screens you have and how often you need to clean them.

In QT Simon was asking Cindy about the cost of small business and farms having to get valuations under the CGT. He quoted an entry-level cost of $10k minimum for each small business and overall $.5b for farms nationwide to get the mandatory valuations required under the CGT proposals. When the TWG report was released Cindy said it was out there for discussion and feedback. Cindy and Robbo are now refusing to answer questions in the House from Simon on the TWG. Apparently, the excuse is it is only a report they are still reading and working through and will not discuss it as it has not been passed into law. So where is call me Sir Michael Cullen to explain. Afterall, taxpayers are funding his lifestyle at over $1k a day for his pearls of wisdom!!! ?

      I see he wasn’t actually ordered to undergo privacy training. That was sought by the Director of Proceedings, but the tribunal could see what a waste of everyone’s time that would be.
      Although, on second thoughts, a training provider could make some extra money by advertising extra places on a training course where “a disgraced ex-blogger gets taught basic rules about personal privacy to follow when pretending to be a journalist”.

Tonight on TV1 at approx 9.40pm we have star reporter/presenter/journalist Carolyn Robinson showing another murder in America-i assume so, because what I’ve seen briefly in successive weeks is this appalling rubbish masquerading as “best content” from mainly American sources. Not any real news or thought provoking stuff, I’d rather watch repeats from al jazeera even with its expected element of bias, such as head to head. How she has the nerve to front gruesome murders week after week is beyond me. Resign or get the docos we deserve to see. Then on another channel we are subjected to snapped, more murders. Trying to undermine American society ?

20/20 features the best content from the ABC and in-depth investigative pieces and TVNZ says it is an established international news brand that viewers trust.

    They have but it’s years off & despite promises to upgrade the Saddle Road, meantime it’s still a bloody goat track. There’s been some work at the top, the western incline is so-so but the east side is a poor joke.

Rutherford then ends his informative article with:

But it should be a chilling warning of the potential consequences for anyone planning to question this Government’s integrity.

And surely the question to be asked next by the MSM is, why is Jacinda tacitly lending support to Jones by not doing a H1 (or JK) and distancing herself from Jones? Does she want to be caught in the crossfire when Jones goes full retard under further pressure as his decisions and roles are further scrutinised by the MSM?
