    If he had actually made a comment about the state of NZ media he’d be right . The depressing thing is that Hosking is actually in the upper tier of Nz journos .
    John Campyfir example was having BSA complaints for dishonesty upheld long after his dumpster fire of a show was taken off air. His interviews with Turei and Brown represent journalism at its lowest ebb.

I don’t know if anyone still reads the NZ Listener but it’s coverage of Trump has been something for the ages. This is a letter I penned to the listener following their latest diatribe from their resident Trump hater – Paul Thomas.
However the same would apply to all our national media which has been wrong about president Trump for the last two years –

“The Mueller report found that there was no evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia. That’s the central charge – that Trump is a Manchurian candidate who is a traitor to his country and conspired with the Russians to steal the election from Hillary Clinton.

And after a 2 year $25 million investigation what did they find? Nothing. No collusion, no conspiracy.
And in the absence of a crime how can the president obstruct justice when he has done nothing wrong?

So Thomas should apologise in my view. He has been a constant fan of the Mueller investigation and has provided Listener readers with the most biased coverage of an American president in the history of the magazine.

And there is never any balance so Listener readers are none the wiser when Trump likely gets reelected in 2020. Why will half the country vote for someone who is so horrible according to the writings of Paul Thomas? To find out why Trump got so many votes the Listener reader will sadly have to look elsewhere.

Paul Thomas has no idea why anybody would vote for Trump? Listener readers deserve better coverage. Thomas has been wrong for two years. It’s time for a change. “

  Not exactly, Scott. There were never any “charges”; it was a general investigation of allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. That was its overall purpose. Yes, its scope did include allegations that there were links or coordination between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian government (and “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation”).
  FWIW, I’ve grown tired of Paul Thomas’s weekly pieces about Trump, and I am no Trump fanboy.

  The Listener is a tragedy. I was given a subscription 18 months ago after not having read the magazine for a decade or more. It was awful – full of happy-clappy-new-age-greeny-of-all-shades, stuff. Most weeks it remained unopened in it’s plastic envelope. I declined another gift sub.
  And didn’t I see a ‘subscribe for $6’ somewhere last week?

  It has also exposed the UK Deep state headed by [Deleted; Mod] May who by delaying Brexit has created a constitutional crisis as the Binding Referendum is unable to be changed by inferior legislation which the change wasn’t legislation as it was not voted through the Commons or Lords. It is one of the saddest things I have seen in my 60 years in New Zealand – the cancellation of many of the ANZAC Day parades.
The gunman has won !
When our Princess speaks at both the Auckland parade and again in Wellington I will be ashamed as I am sure she will promote herself to be the most self righteous person in our country (and hypocritical).
Sad. Sad. Sad, – what have we become using the lack of police to be responsible for these event cancellations ?

    Actually yes. Airline safety checks are nothing but security theatre. I could probably (being a creative technical sort) bring down a plane with things I could get through security. Also motivated attackers can hide enough explosives within their body to bring down an airliner and there is nothing short of unacceptably intrusive full body x-rays that can reveal them. Passengers would never allow another 9/11 type hijacking to occur.

  No the gunman hasn’t won. It’s a once of thing, it will be back to normal next year. What we know this week is a man was arrested with illegal firearms and a home made bomb. A student was in court who planned a school shooting. For one time only we’re not being asked to not go to an Anzac event, we’re simply being asked to go to where they can make sure people are safe. I’m sure all those who fought for this country would want the safety of the public always first.

    It’s not a “once off “. Last year when the soap dodgers were in Wellington for an anti defence conference , or some such , the cops told a militaria auction they couln’t guarantee safety and the event was canned .
    
    Elf and Safety being used for Police convenience and of course organisers want to co operate and not be seen to endanger particpants.

  Paulus, you are so right. Listening to Morning Report after 7am, they had Ferguson interviewing the Presidents of the Auckland and Christchurch Districts of the RSA. You couldn’t get 2 more contrasting views of the world, and the classic comment came from the Christchurch President, who ended with,

  I don’t understand why they don’t mobilise the Military for this. This is a good use of these resources and a valuable training exercise. When South Africa went the polls in 1994 you couldn’t move without seeing thousands of soldiers, and the elections which went for 5 days were peaceful, successful and generally without incident. No terrorist ( from either side of the political spectrum) with half a brain would have tried anything as the response would have been immediate and overpowering.

  The Left have long been looking for a way to wipe out ANZAC Day. They regard it as irrelevant and glorifying wars and now that all the WW1 vets are gone and only a handful of the WW2 vets are left they are hoping to consign it to the dust bin.
  
  The Left hate nationalism as the UN is the only governance structure we should be following.

  As Nz’ers we should feel ashamed at the way these Anzac Day parades have been cancelled, on advice of NZ Police. How pitiful these senior police officers have become. Makes me bloody angry. That one mad gunman’s evil act can make some people in this nation react this way is giving him a victory. In my opinion we should have MORE parades and show the strength that the Anzacs did and not cower down like cowards.

No news on the Labour Sex Pervert case set down for hearing in the North Shore District Court mid March, has it been delayed, moved to another court, or tried and the result suppressed or perhaps the Po lice Kommisars have done another dirty Little deal with Labour. Do the MSM not read Kiwiblog, perhaps they can’t read, they certainly can’t spell and Grammar – probably think thats an elderly relative.

  This morning I emailed Andrew Little [Minister of Police etc] asking for an update on the Labour Party Youth camp trial and also emailed my MP Anne Tolley for any information she had, but neither have replied – so far.

To my view that is the BIG problem with inviting them into NZ and the west – those very common Muslim views are abhorrent They provide a net of approval that tacitly supports and fosters individual barbarism and are just not compatible with living in the west.

On the matter of Brexit. If Britain leaves the UK and if the UK breaks up with Scotland and maybe even Northern Ireland leaving the union, what then should become of Britian’s permanent seat on the UN Security Council?

Even if the UK doesn’t break up, once it has left the EU, why should it retain this seat anyway? Surely it should be forced to give this up to Japan or possibly India (perish the thought)?

The UK holds this seat because it was one of the major allied powers that won the second world war. But it should be remembered though that it did this as the head of the British Empire, the ruler of 1/4 of the world so it represented the interests of a vast swath of humanity. But there is no longer any empire there that it represents.

The UK government (excluding the Palace) over the last 50 years has turned its back on the Commonwealth and treated it with a mixture of disdain, disinterest and boredom, while it’s pursued its relationship with its flash European floozie with great gusto. So as part of the EU, you could argue it had some merit in having its permanent seat on the Security Council.

But post Brexit? What exactly does it have then? No Empire, no membership in the EU. Why should such a small unconnected country have a permanent seat on the council? Oh because it’s the world’s 6th largest economy?? Yeah, so is the state of California. So what?

  Britain is a nuclear power.
  It is France that has the dubious permanent seat.
  They were defeated and broken in the 1940’s (basically cry-babies that needed other countries like Canada, USA, and NZ to liberate them from the boche) and it was Britain that used its power at the time to get France the perm seat on the security council.
  
  France will never acknowledge others who help.
  Hence, despite the kiwi graves in France they bombed the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland’s harbour then played hardball after when they were caught out!
  After not really fighting the boche, once US had the Marshall Plan in place, France went back over aggressively to South East Asia and this conflict led to the Vietnam war. ie France’s arrogance gave birth to that war.
  
  Britain, the actual party to victory in 1945, began a process of letting its colonies go (India 1947) and these countries mainly stayed with Britain under the Commonwealth.
  France: see Lebanon, Algeria today et al.
  
  France also showed its ‘gratitude’ with De Gaulle blocking UK getting in to the common market.
  When the UK did join it was on weak ground and here we are today with Brexit or not to Brexit.
  
  If anyone gets removed it should be France ahead of Britain.
  If Britain ends up as Wales and England it will still be a world player. It will just need a new home for its nuclear vessels.

  I see that David has listed the world’s top 10 militarys in a post today and the UK comes in at #8 on the list behind countries such as India, Japan, France and South Korea.
  
  The world as well as the UK (and NZ too for that matter) has to come to terms with the fact that the UK is no longer a major global economic and military power of significance and needs to adjust its thinking accordingly. And that includes relinquishing its permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

  There was a column somewhere not long after the shooting pointing out that charging the offender with terrorism offences would involve the prosecutor having to prove a political motive, thereby opening up more potential for him to use the trial as a platform for the offender’s views.

The Zionists used it to establish Israel,(King David hotel bombing, der yassin massacre) the Palestinians to draw attention to their plight, the IRA to draw attention and bring urgency to the northern Ireland question. ISIS to establish an Islamic caliphate.
    
    Censorship and terrorism go hand in hand. More censorship will lead to more radicalization, and now the radicals know not to say anything on social media it will be harder to track and they can say anything they want at the BBQ, or the Gun club, or the local pub, at home…

Recent speeches and publications by the RBNZ suggest it remains fully committed to its Bank Capital proposals. While the RBNZ is still in its consultation phase (until 3 May) and its final decision is not expected until September, we do not anticipate material concessions. Further, we now believe there is limited capacity for the banks to utilise the proposed 1.5% of AT1 allowable (perpetual non-redeemable preference shares) and that banks are likely to maintain ~1% buffer over 16% minimum Tier 1. This implies the New Zealand banks would need to run CET1 ratios of ~17%, well above our prior estimates of 14.5% (which included AT1 and no buffer) and leaves a FY23E capital shortfall of ~NZ$21bn rather than the ~NZ$15bn we previously estimated. … read more via hyperlink above (beyond paywall) …

More unintended consequences.

I hear that sports shops dealing in firearms are having difficulty shipping firearms across the country. I know some courier firms are refusing to ship weapons purchased on Trade Me.

Not confirmed but I have been told that many rifle ranges will not allow the Police to use them for training.

Looks like the only alternative would be the defence dept but the availability is limited.

Bugger.

  Quite a few years ago I was helping a mate “sight” a new rifle in on our rural property.
  
  One of my neighbours rang the police to report me for shooting at the farm wokers.
  
  Amazing how many police turned up…
  
  Anyway, they went and spoke to the neighbour then had the arms officer pay her another visit to smack her bum but while we were all chatting amiably they tried to say that we always had to be very careful as they even have accidents at the police range.
  
  My old mate look at the senior and said “we’ll it’s a good thing we don’t let you guys shoot here then”……

I have a Ruger 10/22 semi. It has a ten round rotary mag…it is apparently legal.
I have a banana mag for it…is it now illegal?
I have grandads old .303. It has a detachable ten shot magazine. Is it now illegal? 🙂
Kneejerk legislation is wonderful for new hijab wearers but not so good for folk that have to consider the consequences of the kneejerk legislation. 🙂

  Back in 1996 the ten shot mag made the .303 “illegal” in Oz as it was regarded as a “military firearm”.
  
  We used a 10 shot mag when goat hunting many years ago so technically it should still be..in original form it has bayonet lugs and the 10 shot box mag is readly available.
  
  My father used one in the African Desert and Monte Casino. If he was alive he’d be so proud of this “open and transparent” government…. maybe not.
