US Stock market up 13% this year. FTSE up 400 points despite Brexit. Trump sees the stockmarket as a barometer of his ability as a pres. Tax cuts and fed rates cuts distorting things further. US debt at all time highs and rising. Fed holding off on increasing interest rates. Etc etc.

Reminds me of the 1920’s. Who is betting on a depression?

    In the last serious recession in NZ in 1987, you would not have felt it unless you were a working, mortgage-payer in your mid-20s or older, i.e, someone born in 1962 or earlier.
    Mainland Chinese born before about the same era would have no recollection of the bad old days, but would only recall the 1980s and thereafter, when the economy grew year by year.
    No one younger than 57 or so has any idea what a serious recession can be like (8%+ unemployment, FOR SALE signs everywhere, real estate offices decimated).
    
    New Zealanders younger than their late 50s really would have no first-hand experience of what a serious economic downturn is like.
    They are in for a nasty shock.
    In my experience, deterioration is exponential: slow at first, but then very rapid. So, you won’t really know that you are going over the waterfall until it is too late to swim against the flow.
    
    In the aftermath, people will look at each other and say in amazement, “How could we have been so stupid.”
    
    Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

      I agree with your sentiments. I think the early 1990s was the real hard times economically. Add Australia to your list, no recession in over 26 years!
      Can’t see New Zealand having a Depression, nor a recession in the immediate future. Agree with sentiment toward Labour Governments, luckily, and within policy limits, economies are more resilient than who is in power by and large. As you say, these things build overtime and poor Government policy can contribute, yet external factors are usually the trigger e.g. higher interest rates, Asian crisis, US recession.
      Although domestic economic growth has slowed, it is likely to pick up later in the year on low interest rates and a massive pickup in Government spending. Likewise, Chinese and global economic activity will pick up over the second half of this year. A deterioration in the global environment is probably needed to tip us into recession, can’t see that happening this year.

  Not me. The US sharemarket fell 13% over the last three months of 2018, and was down 19% at one stage. Albeit it is near record highs now. US economy to reach it longest period of economic expansion in July of this year without incurring a recession. The economy is in good shape, consumer is healthy, business investment is picking up, and the Government to increase spending, there are no material excesses, inflation is muted. More likely scenario is a recession sometime 2021/22, will be mild in nature and triggered by the US Federal Reserve raising interest rates in 2020/21.

      I can’t comment on individual companies. With respect to sector valuations, the tech sector valuation is not as extreme as prior to dot-com implosion, neither is sentiment as extreme as back then (at a sector level). Overall, global equities are slightly expensive, the US and NZ being most extreme, but are far from being in bubble territory.
      The global economy is also far from being in bubble, global Central Banks are more worried about deflation than inflation, and world economic growth will be around 3.25-3.5% this year, hardly excessive!
      Global debt is high, but again not extreme, even in China, with current economic growth and low interest rate environment not a major global risk currently. Albeit this risk will rise over time.
      The hurdle for a “bubble” is high, and the word is over used.

  I think you should stick to knitting, luv. Or maybe baking? The all time high on the Dow Jones Industrial average was on January 26th, 2018 when it reached 26,616.
  
  At yesterday’s close it was at 26,425 which is still down approx 1% since its record close 15 months ago. In other words, over the last 12 months or so the market has basically gone sideways.
  
  Now while the US market may well be up 13% so far this year, fat lot of good that is to you if you brought your shares 12 months or so ago, as you’d still be done about 1%.
  
  Of course the market has gone up 13% so far this year because well last year it tanked, down almost 20% from its high in January to 21792 on 24 December 2018.
  
  Now, if anything was going to cause a depression, wouldn’t you think that that would be it? So where is it?
  
  You see the point I’m trying to make here is that you can’t just pick and choose very small periods of time in the market’s history in isolation ignoring what went before as some sort of oracle like predictor of what he future holds, economically speaking. Some people think they can do that, but they are wrong. The error in their thinking is the belief that markets are efficient and always price stocks correctly and therefore have some degree of being both predictable and predictors of the future. But they are not. In the short term markets are erratic, emotion driven, error prone, over reactive and often just plain wrong to both the downside and the upside. It is in the long term that their trends become more informative.

Is not “give them no time” in fact a denial of democracy?

According to international media, the Christchurch terrorist in his “manifesto” anticipated the removal of rights to own certain weapons, that such a loss is inevitable and predicted his actions may just accelerate the process – and hoping to cause conflict over the American 2nd Amendment issue: bearing arms.

But, if that is true, even the terrorist might himself be surprised at the remarkable haste and possible denial of simple democracy in the process.

But people would know this if an officially vetted version of the terrorist’s explanation was available to assist understanding what has been wrought on New Zealand by one man, or even thwart some reactions that he has apparently himself anticipated.

The media has a dispensation, under the Censor’s ruling, to ethically inform us of some “manifesto” matters, but the media appears to not be doing that – second-hand and by their selection as such comments would be.

And should interpreting one source of information – the “manifesto”, why the Christchurch massacres occurred – be left in the hands of those who report the Prime Minister’s generosity in paying for someone’s supermarket groceries but don’t give any perspective by naming the amount involved – utterly trite perhaps, but part of a bigger picture they construct – or reporting endless fatal car crashes, always it seems followed a couple of days later by what brilliant community members the dead were, or could have been, but never the slightest iota of reason as to why their vehicles killed them?

If misleading internet memes and trolling are eliminated and justifications for killing children are redacted, is there in fact nothing of substance left of the terrorist’s “manifesto”?

Even if, as international media report, the fact that this “manifesto” claims there was an earlier 240 page version, is it sufficient to confirm the entire event was indeed plainly planned and premeditated enough to qualify for the harshest penalty available?
Or, again would journalists, the censor and officials rather that we just be ignorant of that?

  Peterson has the ability to speak confidently and eloquently on a range of topics. This gives a naive listener the sense that he knows what he is talking about when he likely doesn’t.
  
  Of course, I don’t have deep knowledge of all the topics that he talks about and so I can’t claim that he is wrong in all cases. However, I do have deep knowledge in two areas that he is prone to speaking on (IQ and domestic violence) and I can tell you with 100% certainty that he is ignorant of the facts/research in these areas. As a cautious listener this leads me to ask the question: if Peterson is certainly wrong on the facts that I am familiar with, is he likely to be wrong on the facts that I am unfamiliar with.
  
  I think the there is a high probability that the answer is yes.

        It is a fairly standard practice for many to make broad judgements about someone’s wider credibility based on whether or not that person can talk sense in respect of the listener’s or reader’s own area of expertise.
        Many people, for example, will have read or heard media discussion of a technical topic and recognised gross oversimplifications.

        Hi Burt, re IQ and family violence, it is not correct to say that low IQ is correlated with more family violence (this is not how correlations work), however it is probably true that there is a negative correlation between IQ and family violence.
        
        I wouldnt expect this to indicate anything causal however IQ is probably a reasonable proxy measure of general cognitive control/emotional regulation capacity and we know that diminished emotional regulation capacity in combination with attitudes and beliefs that condone family violence are among the main psychological factors that contribute to FV.

    Nonsense. Both those issues you highlight are hotly debated by experts so to dismiss everything he says because he doesn’t agree with you on two points is short sighted. I have expert knowledge on several key area and he is on the money. He carefully analyses and studies topics to ensure he is intellectually rigorous. His academic prowess is supported by clinical experience with real people. In fact his theories are underpinned by both theory and experience. He challenges many people’s cherished beliefs and dogma, which is why he is so frequently challenged. But he acquits himself exceptionally well in debate. Don’t read any of his work if you don’t want your beliefs challenged.

        Peterson’s daughter has had childhood rheumatoid arthritis since the age of 2. It is extraordinarily painful and has resulted in numerous joint replacements. RA is an inflammatory disease that is now believed to be in a group of inflammatory diseases affected by food due to poor gut processing and leaking nutrients through the gut lining. Various foods affect different sufferers, in Peterson and his daughter’s case they have removed all food from their diet except beef and water and have felt the benefits. Other patients report their inflammation is affected by different foods.

      My point is that I have listened to him. On the issues that I have expertise in, he is not credible. He doesn’t seem to understand very basic concepts (e.g. He conflates heritability with inherited when discussing IQ).
      
      This is the problem with public intellectuals. It is actually impossible to have the required depth of knowledge across such a number of broad fields. This is why academia and research is fundamentally characterised by the principle of specialisation. It is not possible to be an academically credible generalist.

    With respect, knowledge drawn from research on a topic such as the relationship of IQ and domestic violence (among many other issues of research) is attained by inductive reasoning. That is broader generalisations are made from specific observations. Therefore, even if all the premises are agreed on the conclusions may vary.
    
    So, in short, perhaps Peterson just has a different conclusion to yourself?

      I didn’t make a specific claim on any relationship between IQ and FV until prompted by Burt. I simply stated that I have some knowledge and expertise in these (separate) areas and on this basis, I can tell you that Petersons comments/opinions in these areas do not reflect the current state of knowledge.
      
      From this point I then assert that it is probable that Peterson also misrepresents research/knowledge in areas that I am not familiar. This would likely include his critique of post modernism which was linked above.
      
      Peterson is a lot like Krauss, Dawkins, Tyson, and Harris. I. E. A well spoken, authoritive intellectual who appears to know what he is talking about despite not knowing what he is taking about.
      
      One caveat to this is that all these public intellectuals (including Peterson but excluding Harris) are able to speak well within their given fields (this is why Peterson is good with the self help stuff).

      Difficult for Wayne to agree on conclusions when Professor Dr Jordan Peterson is unusually, for a pyschologist, on the right side of the political spectrum while Wayne is probably further to the left.

I hope the firearms Select Committee is up already and carefully considering the thousands of submissions it received while the Arms Bill was open for 48 hours of submissions…

A rushed policy process is never a recipe for success. And the moratorium on sales of semi automatic weapons through the Order in Council a few weeks ago means there is no phenomenonal urgency required. I’m not saying to take years, but to take a few months would be much more reasonable.

The firearms Bill is just like the ban on new oil and gas exploration – poorly conceived and desperately rushed.

  Back for Christmas 1953, I received the book “Enid Blyton’s 2nd Holiday Book.” Each story was the model for one of those old morals.
  Now 66 years later, all I remember is one moral – from the book the story “Pride comes before a fall.”
  It came to mind as I turned PAST Pages 14 and 15 in this morning’s Herald – “72 Hours. Inside the PM’Ms team after mosque attacks.”
  Haven’t we been immersed in every detail repeatedly over the past 20 days?
  Now I’m sitting back and waiting to see if “pride does come before a fall” as there is quite a drop to hit the BOTTOM.

    I’d say mor it’s a sign of a blog owner tidying up the mess that existed on his blog. Before this ban people were calling a now banned member a kiddy feeler, and other pathetic comments because they didn’t like the side of the politics they were on. People want to blame Christchurch for the moderation but I’d look at yourself first and some of what people were saying here that lead to it. Not that moderation has improved much, still comments getting through that I see latter disappear.. wonder how the warning ps work when a moderate pr has approved a comment then is latter removed.

    I’ve commented here since 2003, and I know DPF from prior to that. He has tried various methods to lessen the moderation load over the years . However light the touch, it’s still a big job when commenting volumes peak at various times.
    
    My view is the ‘report abuse’ and demerits systems worked pretty well, allowing for predominately civil and fee debate. I believe the current regime isn’t of DPFs choosing, and that he’s been subjected to subtle pressure or indeed legal threats.

The more the MSM feed into the European bashing extremism of the likes of Marama Davidson and Golriz Ghahraman and beat ordinary kiwis over the head with taunts of white supremacy the greater will be the resentment and division in our society. I haven’t read the manifesto but I believe that this type of backlash and increased strife is precisely what Brenton Tarrant is hoping will occur. The narrative has now been established by the left wing and its complicit MSM that if I oppose the name change for the Crusaders or the inclusion of Muslim prayers at ANZAC services or the wearing of headscarves by women in support of Muslim women then I by definition am a white supremacist.

I am feeling more and more resentful and like an outsider in my own country.

    Now I am a criminal, in possession of prohibited weapons and regarded by the media, and it seems the entire Parliament of New Zealand, as a probable serial killer.
    
    I am told again and again that Islam is a religion of peace, despite all of the extensive evidence that islamic doctrine is an aggressive expansionist religion, and that when the muslim population reaches about 6% extreme social conflict starts.
    
    There are grenade attacks going on in peaceful Swedish towns (grenades for God’s sake!).
    
    Somali street gangs are killing passers by in Melbourne (sorry, “youths of African appearance!”).
    
    We have a New Zealand Parliamentarian, who would be executed in her own country if she showed the same level of disrespect, accusing those who took in her family and made them welcome, of being behind everything bad in this country.
    
    We have a secular government that abandoned christian prayer in our Parliament, but saw fit to have an islamic cleric proclaim that there is no god but allah.
    
    What the hell is going on out there? Will I wake up soon and realise this is just a nightmare? Where are the grown-ups?

    What is the opposite of a “White Supremacist”? Is the problem with the word “White” or “Supremacist”? Let’s look at the All Blacks? Could they justifiably be called “Rugby Supremacists?” So neither term in its self is a problem, only when combined. From this link it seems that there very few groups races, cultures, religions or sexes that have not been deemed “supremacist”. I don’t believe I am a “White Supremacist” as generally defined, but I am White. Do I need to be deliberately curtailing anything I am good at to not appear as “Supremacist?. There are many that seem to think so, especially in the Green party.

    Tarrant takes full responsibility for his own actions in his Manifesto. He would run the world. He doesn’t have the ability but he does have the vision. I regard him as extremely dangerous and in the Hitler category.
    Tarrant also show his responsibility by publishing his Manifesto within minutes of his attack and further by publishing his attack on-line live glorying in the event. A rare deranged dangerous personality. It’s all now being hidden from us while the Police propose to bring 89 charges against him and have to severally prove them. That could take months in Court the way trial proceed these days. What about the victims and the rest of NZ–should they and us have peace too. A delayed justice is not fair.

  But not everyone has even heard of them – let alone buy into their warped demands.

        New Zealand recently signed the UN migration pact which defines any criticism of migration as hate speech and obliges signatories to pass laws to make it illegal. If you look at the government’s stated intention to pass hate speech legislation in the light of this, it is quite chilling.
        
        We face a future in which ordinary New Zealanders may be dragged out of bed at 4 o’clock in the morning and arrested for stating a political opinion on the internet. If you think it can’t happen just look at the UK. Jacinda; you seem to believe that the Christchurch massacre gives you a mandate to destroy democratic freedom and impose a socialist dictatorship.     Farmers are too busy wondering if it’s going to rain, will they get some grass growth, will the dams get filled, and will they get time to do the fencing along the river before winter, and where is m. bovis this week?
    That sort of stuff.
    The government lives in Wellington, and townies live in Auckland, and have little relevance to day-to-day rural living.

      On the Coast we don’t have to worry about rain, however, only that we get too much of it at times.
      
      At least the last downpour seemed to spur some government action, with the member for West Coast visiting for the first time in living memory. Of course he was choppered in so that he didn’t get to experience the condition of SH6.
      
      But when something goes wrong on the coast, we just fix it. There isn’t time for us to wait months for government assistance – we just do it ourselves.
      
      Our local member is the Minister for M.Bovis, and I’ll bet he has absolutely no idea how we are handling that right here in his own electorate !

  I did read the manifesto on the Friday night, sent by a friend (82 pages) and deleted it when it was banned.
  It was a mishmash and low brow.
  
  The main point I got was he wasn’t particularly anything or it was possibly written by more than one person.
  The way Muslims were invading Europe and their behaviour seemed to be what set him off on his plan of revenge.
  
  Maybe that is why it was banned as they didn’t want people to have a discussion about that.?
  Some are.
  They are wondering what led him to come here and attack people at peace.
  
  Just because it was banned won’t stop that. I know it is too soon to have decent conversations about this, in time it will be. I hope..

Amusing to watch Jacinda’s friends in the media getting themselves into knots trying to sort out whether it was or wasn’t ok for her to wear a hijab, now that some actual Muslim women have pointed out how unhelpful it was for those who still struggle for the right not to.

Apparently it’s still ok, because she didn’t intend any offence. Regardless that “I meant no offence” is not available as mitigation for any case in which it’s any of their friends who takes offence.

Islamophobia not ‘racist’ but a hatred of certain religious beliefs –

The senior member of the world’s biggest Muslim organisation has insisted that Islamophobia is not rooted in racism and that the distrust of Muslims in many countries is a result of Islamist extremism and terrorism throughout the world.

Yahya Cholil Staquf, the secretary-general of Indonesia’s Nahdlatul Ulama [1] movement, which claims to have more than 90 million adherents … wrote that the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims was “factually incorrect” in linking the definition of the word “Islamophobia” to racism, and that it was “counter-productive” to do so.

“The truth, we recognise, is that jihadist doctrine, goals and strategy can be traced to specific tenets of orthodox, authoritative Islam and its historic practice. This includes those portions of sharia that promote Islamic supremacy, encourage enmity towards non-Muslims and require the establishment of a caliphate. It is these elements – still taught by most Sunni and Shiite institutions – that constitute a summons to perpetual conflict,” he wrote.

Staquf stated that Brenton Tarrant’s murder spree, which killed 50 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 15 March, was part of an “ancient cycle of violence” and that the killer shared a “historical framework” with many Muslims that went back almost 1,400 years. He explained the traditional Islamic teaching that “Muslims and non-Muslims are and shall remain in a state of permanent conflict, until the end of time (according to Islamists) or the disappearance of Islam (according to advocates of a ‘counter-jihad’).”

“If Muslims do not address the key tenets of Islamic tradition that encourage this violence, anyone – at any time – can harness them to defy what they claim to be illegitimate laws and butcher their fellow citizens, whether they live in the Islamic world or the West. This is what links so many current events, from Syria to the streets of London,” he added [2]

In New Zealand, international media reports cause a wariness of Islam. Simple.
The hijab and female attire generally identify Islam here and can focus some bias.
A seeming lack of denial or disassociation here of those points Yahya Cholil Staquf highlights does nothing to allay the attitude that international media reports reinforce almost daily.

So who can remedy any of it – international movements, media, ordinary New Zealanders or New Zealand muslims?
To label any discussion of it as ‘hate speech’ – unless it very obviously is utterly ignorant – is not a brilliant start.

I have sent this my local National MP.

I doubt it will have any impact but I truly believe that we need to engage with these people and remind them, they represent us. They are not elected to “rule” regardless of what the current embarrassment of a government thinks.

“As a National supporter I am very concerned at the direction the party
is taking with regard to the proposed firearms legislation.

As an owner of firearms, I am well aware of the impact a firearm can
have in a violent conflict, as I am sure you do also.

The “type” of firearm is actually irrelevant when viewed with clear
vision, vision not clouded by kneejerk reactions to dreadful event.

Blaming the weapon for the murders is as silly as determining what
length of knife blade is safe and what is not.

Would the Christchurch murders be more acceptable if Tarrant had only
used a box cutter rather than firearms. What number of people being
murdered by a weapon is acceptable before that weapon must be banned.

The issue with this event is the failure of the licensing and purchase
system currently in place as ammended by the ardern government late 2018.

Previously the acquiring of a legal MSSA required face to face
interaction, often with Police involvement. This change by the ardern
government is the primary vehicle Tarrant exploited, not the firearm he
used.

I urge you to think carefully about the civil rights this proposed
legislation removes from your society and what impact, if any, such
legislation will have on any future attack in New Zealand.

Remember that one of the most murderous terrorist attacks in recent years
involved a truck being driven into a crowd of people. Should such an
attack occur here would you consider a blanket ban on all trucks….I
think not.

Please urge your colleagues on both sides of Parliament to slow down and
await the result of the Royal Commission and ascertain what, if any,
errors occurred.”

  If someone is intent on extensive murder of innocents then the banning of firearms will not prevent such events as the perpetrators will simply adapt other means and equipment to carry out their aims which may be even more extensive in effect. Car bombs in Ireland and the Vehicles in attacks on London Bridge and Paris cannot be banned or effectively prevented from being used. The Craptains call by Ardern is typical of those with little practical experience and knowledge of the real world out side their cosy cabal of reinforce-rs of their belief, I predict the ban will not result in any reduction of such weapons being used as there was no significant use of legally held weapons before for murder outside the illegally held weapons which may now proliferate .

I wouldnt dismiss Matthew Hootens prediction of an early election. Whilst the downside is the electorate usually punish Parties who call one events can be arranged to ensure the blame fall on another Party in this case NZF and in particular Shane Jones.

Sacking Jones from Cabinet and engineering a crisis could be a good reason to go to the polls.

NZF are dead in the water, the Greens could be gifted a safe seat (Nats ACT Epsom) and the result would be a Labour/Green Government with probably well over 50% maybe high 50s.

This would allow both to push forward with their Agendas for the next 3 years CGT introduced in 2021 as the early election would be declared a mandate plus Climate Change taxes and levies plus other taxes and levies on the Rich Pricks.

I’ve been waiting for Shane Jones – saviour of all things regional- to comment on ACCs restructuring that will see office closures in the provinces and job losses around the country. He’s normally vocal in advocating for the regions – or is that only when private businesses need his advice?

I note also that ACC has been experiencing increased demand for services:

Facebook eventually removed 1.5 million copies of it. Twitter got rid of 20,000 tweets – both with the video and hate speech tweets.

I am intrigued that the Australians in particular seems extremely upset at the length of time taken to remove copies of the terrorist’s live video – perhaps to the point of irrationality.

Why has no one in the media – as far as I am aware – explained how a copy is removed and how long that takes.

If a staff of one thousand could each locate and remove a copy every 30 seconds, that would eliminate 2,000 a minute, but to remove 1.5 million copies would then take 750 minutes or 12 hours and 30 minutes.

Or is that absolute rubbish?
So how would it work? And could it have been faster?

The minimum crawl of the entire internet seems to be about 4 days.
Such an examination would require programming that could detect an objectionable video sequence and then there is the question of whether that recognition would refer somewhere, or kill the content when found.
After all they can place a relevant ad at the side of a page you are viewing – so what technology enables that detection?

I am surprised no media seem to have explained what the Australians are even asking of Facebook or any other Internet agency.

Denis Lisov is a Christian Russian man who was living in Sweden with his family when his wife got sick and was hospitalized.

The Swedish authorities in their wisdom decided Denis Lisov was unable to take care of his three daughters and put them into foster care with a Muslim Family which was incompatable with his and their beliefs

So after a year Denis who had visditation rights of six hours per week decided to take them home to Russia but was stopped at the Polish border

A Polish court has decided that they can’t leave Poland for now but that he can retain custody of his daughters

The Russian Government has said they will provide financial support to the Lisov Family while they remain in Poland

  One of the questions asked in that article is when someone did something good or bad for the environment. I burn a lot of garden waste, often and add tons of CO2 to the atmosphere. As the earth is in a near critical state of CO2 starvation, I feel really good as an Alpha Male burning shit and drinking wine.

Wisdom of Cardinal Sarah –

Vatican Cardinal Robert Sarah warns that the “west will disappear” as a result of mass migration, adding that “Islam will invade the world” and “completely change culture, anthropology, and moral vision.”

Sarah’s new book, Evening Draws Near and the Day is Nearly Over, is causing controversy in Europe because it explicitly identifies Muslim migration as a harbinger of the continent’s collapse.

“If the West continues in this fatal way, there is a great risk that, due to a lack of birth, it will disappear, invaded by foreigners, just as Rome has been invaded by barbarians,” said Sarah, adding, “My country is predominantly Muslim. I think I know what reality I’m talking about.”

The Cardinal also blamed the European Union for its “desire to globalize the world, ridding it of nations with their distinctive characteristics,” labeling the move “sheer madness”.

“The Brussels Commission thinks only about building a free market in the service of the great financial powers,” he continued. “The European Union no longer protects the peoples within it. It protects the banks.”

In a previous video interview, Sarah warned that Europe had lost its roots and was dying because of fewer European natives having children.

In recent interviews he has gone even further, noting that priests, bishops and cardinals within the Catholic Church have betrayed the teachings of Christ by pursuing political activism.

Sarah’s comments put him at odds with the Pope, who has relentlessly promoted migration from African and Middle Eastern countries into Europe.

According to the Cardinal, it is wrong to “use the word of God to promote migration,” and it is better “to help people flourish in their culture than to encourage them to come to Europe.”

Sarah slammed mass migration as a “new form of slavery” because migrants end up “without work or dignity”.

    Any honest assessment of anything will have to pass a “sniff” test to determine if a muslim, a greenie, a snowflake or a certain female pm who is parsimonious wth the truth could possibly be offended in any way whatsoever.

Northland scientist finds link to ancient home of Māori

A Northland scientist has for the first time pinpointed the origin of early Māori artefacts found in New Zealand to a precise location in eastern Polynesia.

Dr Ross Ramsay’s discovery further backs up oral history that Māori arrived in New Zealand not by accident but in a deliberate voyage of exploration that began in what is now French Polynesia.

Ramsay, a retired geologist living in Kerikeri, studied three scoria blocks found in archaeological sites at the bottom of the South Island and on a dune on Stewart Island. The sites also contained early Polynesian artefacts and moa remains.

Analysis of the blocks’ chemical composition showed they were unlike any volcanic rocks found in New Zealand — but almost identical to a marae stone found on the island of Mehetia, about 100km southeast of Tahiti in French Polynesia, and brought back to Otago Museum in the 1930s.

    Last year I spent some time in Sarawak ( Borneo) and some of the of the guys from a few of the many indigenous tribes would not look out of place on a Maori marae. Striking facial similarities especially for guys aged about 50+. Not so much with the women.
    We were told that the same thing can be found in parts of Indonesia.

The reason we see Gayford making pronouncements on television is because he’s a man.

The woke-ites who have championed feminism for so long are so blinded by their adoration of Ardern that they can’t recognise the patiarchal inference of taking on Gayford, whereas they quietly ignored wives of men for over a hundred years.

That being a man is an automatic credential for stepping in and being an expert on anything a woman does.

You will recall how last month i recommendeed ‘Countdown’s Hot X Buns’ as being the best value for cost and taste ($6 a doz – amazing when yu consider you can pay 5 bucks each elsewhere). Now i have turned my attention to ‘Toilet Paper’ – and once again Countdown wins hands down. Thier home brand (18 rolls for $6 is incredible). Its the one with a self-pattern ‘flower design’ stamped on the outside, but on the inside of the sheet, it feels just like a page of Braille. Strong and grippy, there is nothing better on the market.

The story about the census that David emailed to me is very very important. The census is I would say critical to the future planning of schools,roads, population growth in center’s around our country. Not to mention the age of our population so we can get an idea about what health care might be needed in the future. This debacle with the census is (I feel) not being taken seriously by the public and the government The census off any country is really important for future planning. Remember you can be taken to court if you don’t fill a census from out.
