  I have no opinion on the ANZ matter, but I know a bit about high end Auckland property.
  
  $5m+ homes are notoriously difficult to sell. At that price it’s usually a matter of waiting for the right buyer, which can take years, or lowering expectations. Don’t believe me, go on trademe and search in that price range and sort by latest listings – you’ll see a lot have been on the market quite some time.

  It’s only a private business and a guy making a lot of money any way he can. What’s wrong with that? It’s likely that most here will be thinking “Heck, I wish I could’ve had a bit of action like that.”

    Not quite – since the “Hell awaits” portion was a misquote, which the click-bait driven media did not notice in their eagerness to cherry-pick “homosexuals”.
    
    The mis-quote does make a little bit of a mess of the seeming simplicity of the issue.

      Galatians 5:19-21 New International Version (NIV)

      When the Bible says that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God, implicit in this warning is the destination of hell. So the Bible presents a binary choice – heaven or hell?
      So although Israel’s social media post was a paraphrase of the Bible, I think it is fair to say that it is accurate?

  There is no chance he is never going to play rugby again, for Australia or most other countries. The employment case is not about his rugby career; that’s effectively over. It’s purely about dollars.
  
  By taking this employment claim Folau is utterly screwing over his former employer, colleagues, and teammates. People he worked with, people who presumably trusted him. And he has completely betrayed them, all in the name of money.

      Yes, Folau does have the legal right to go to court. But doing so will cause significant financial and PR harm to Rugby Australia and his former teammates. A moral person might have considered that and let the matter go. Folau seems to only be thinking about his own bank balance.
      
      And exactly how to do you propose to defend a millionaire literally begging for money to fund his legal costs? I’d love to hear your excuse for that one.

      While I don’t actually support Israel Folau’s view, it is obvious there is a real witch hunt by the left against him, and now against his wife.
      
      It seems to me that he should be able post his religious views wherever he likes, and that it should be no business of Rugby Australia.
      
      I certainly hope he wins his case.
      
      Now we have some fool by the name of David Long opining in the Stuff website that Netball NZ has to take action against Maria Folau, presumably to sack her. Typical of the intolerant left.
      
      The Herald had as its lead letter, a view that minority views should be banned if they considered to be bad views. The letter that showed the writer had not a clue what free speech means. Basically the only permissible fee speech was speech the writer agreed with, or at least did not think were bad views. To be fair the Herald might have put it as the lead letter precisely to provoke debate on the meaning of free speech.
      
      It seems self evident to me that a person bought to be able to say the sinners, as defined in the bible, will be condemned in hell unless they repent, without loosing their job, or being excluded from social media.
      
      It is their view. You don’t have to agree with it. You can say he is religiously wrong. But it is not hate speech. He is not threatening anyone.
      
      Presumably the temporal jurisdiction of the state or society doesn’t actually extend to governing what the devil does in hell. Israel can opine on what will happen in hell, but so what. His views don’t actually affect anyone else, apart from causing people to disagree with him. In short how can someone’s view on hell affect anyone else. How are they harmed by it?
      
      This should become a real issue for the right. David Seymour is onto it, not necessarily with the best strategy, but his intent is right. We need more people in Parliament for whom the defence of fundamental democratic freedoms is their reason to be in the Parliament. If that means a reinvigorated Act party, well that is a good thing. It is pretty obvious that Parliament needs a party that has a credible number of members who will stand up to the oppression of the left, on the issues of liberty. Essentially a counter to the Greens who definitely do not approve of free speech.
      
      At the moment the basic structure of Parliament representation is unbalanced. There are the Greens, the intolerant left. There is Labour, the broad current of the left. There is NZF, with traditional populism. There is National, the broad current of the right. But on there is only one person, David Seymour representing classic liberalism which has free speech and libertarianism at its core.
      
      One MP is not enough. It needs to be 3 or more. When Act had that sort of number it could mount effective campaigns on these sorts of issues and was able to serve as bulwark against their erosion.

        It has now got worse. The “woke” left managers of GoFundMe have closed his account.
        
        More accurately they are the “Fascist Left”. Only approved thinking is permitted, even in respect of who goes to hell.
        
        Folau needs to open a bank account so we can pay money into it. Though I wasn’t interested in the GoFundMe account, now that they have closed it, I would now put $50 into into a special account. The principle of free speech and liberty is now really in play.
        
        I imagine Folau will loose the case. A “woke” judge will rule against him. I don’t actually trust the courtson this issue. It will be all to easy for them to say he breached his employment contract. But I want to see the arguments run.
        
        Mind you, a bank might close such an account. In which case he will need a PO Box so we can send him actual cash. I would assume the Post Office would not ban Folau from having a PO Box, but if they did I guess it could be posted to his home. Though the Post Office may refuse to deliver any mail to him. And Qantas ban him from flying. And supermarkets ban him from buying food. And electricity companies could cut him off.
        
        You could see where this could end. Which is why companies are not allowed to discriminate. I imagine Folau is getting dangerously close to having less rights than a convicted murderer on parole.
        
        The Folau case has become a litmus test of liberty. Whether or not you agree with Folau’s views on who will be in hell (as if he actually controls the management of hell!), it is now essential for anyone supporting liberty and freedom to back him.
        
        There is a much bigger issue at stake than Folau’s eccentric religious views. It is about our right to express ourselves, even if that upsets others. So long as we are not threatening another person or encouraging hatred of others, then we should have free speech and freedom of religion.
        
        These were two of the four freedoms espoused by Roosevelt as the reasons to fight WW2.

  I, myself was looking at some statements from the bank a few years ago and figured they were mistaken, in their favour. They had to pay me hundreds of dollars.

  The Hisco matter is a side issue in the Reserve Bank governor’s battle with the banks. The Government is looking at a review of the Reserve Bank Act, and Radio New Zealand’s web site headlines this: “Government takes harder line against banks, executives.”
  
  If the country gets in monetary problems in the deteriorating world economy, Labour will be ready to “blame the banks”.
  
  Among the changes coming: the Reserve Bank and Labour are looking at compulsory deposit insurance, with a levy on banks to help pay for it. That means ultimately a levy on customers.
  
  Meanwhile, Michael Reddell suggests in his second Monday post on his blog that the Reserve Bank governor is steering the Reserve Bank into the political areas of climate ” change” and Maorification.
  
  Reddell’s post at his Croaking Cassandra blog includes this:
  
  …the [Reserve] Bank has no mandate at all for the Governor’s climate change focus. As he very well knows, it is largely irrelevant to monetary policy, and of very little relevance around financial stability in New Zealand.     MCos, he has been in and out of custody since the age of 11. First for the murder of Jamie Bulger. He and Robert Thompson were sentenced to a young person’s facility, until 18. During those 8 years he (& Robert Thompson) received a better level of decondary education than if he attended his local comprehensive in Liverpool. On release he breached his bail conditions on several occasions and was sent back inside for procession of child photography on his computer (a breach of his bail conditions).
    
    Any Visa application on his part should be rejected without question.

Genter in her efforts to transfer money from roading is set to announce the govt’s new road safety programme “Vision Zero” (VZ) this week, replacing the “Safer Journeys” programme. VZ is about reducing fatalities and injuries on our roads, Safer Journeys, was about reducing the number of crashes on our roads. A subtle distinction one might think, but it it is all about emphasis on where funding goes.

Safer Jouneys was about achieving reduced crashes through better engineered roads, hence the number of programmes under the previous govt. VZ is about reducing “harm”, this does not necessarily mean reducing the number of crashes though. So how do they want to achieve this, well it is the usual Green thinking, discourage use of the car in favour of public transport, cycling & walking. Discouragement of car use will be not upgrading roads, heavier use of speed cameras and reduced speed zones. The programme is meant to be based on the Swedish programme but it will not be, because Sweden also improved their roads. Something that is an anathema to Genter & friends.

While reducing the road toll is important, transport and a country’s transport network is important to the economic prosperity of a country and its citizens. So, my message to Genter cynically playing politics with serious issues like the road toll in order to divert investment to your pet projects is doomed to fail. Proper upgrades to sections of SH1, SH2, and SH58 are needed to reduce lives being lost. Stop playing crass politics with transport!

  I believe the upgrades required on SH1, SH2 and SH58 and in particular Katikati to Tauranga SH2 are being penalised for not voting Labour. This really shows up with the canning of the upgrade to Mill Road in Papakura which just happens to be in Judith Collins electorate. Is it just a coincidence that the Minister for Transport is none other than Phil Twyford. The Twyford and Genter roading policy is worked out very scientifically.

    The current situation is bad for New Zealand. It means that every time the Government changes, transport policy lurches in another direction. By contrast, Australia’s roading network and public transport have improved markedly in the last 40 years. On the east coast of the continent from Brisbane down to Melbourne, the roading improvements has been astonishing. Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane urban roads have also been transformed.
    
    The situation in New Zealand is truly depressing.

Interesting that the Migrant Workers’ Association of New Zealand spokeswoman Anu Kaloti is at a loss as to why it’s happening.

‘I haven’t been able to work out why it is the way that it is. Perhaps its because they felt they had to go through all this pain and grief so why should a newer migrant have it easy. It’s very strange,” said Kaloti, who had been with the Association since 2012.’

I might have thought the main reasons are rather bleeding obvious.

1. We’re importing corrupt people from cultures where corruption is endemic. Of course, they’re going to remain corrupt once they get here – it’s part of their culture. Only the bewildered like Stiffy would think all people turn into boy scouts and girl guides once they land on our shores.

2. It’s worth it for them to do it. I suspect nothing will change until we start imprisoning and then throwing offenders out of the country en masse.

Rort our institutions and you’re out. No ifs nor buts.

Make it happen Labour. (But I know you won’t.)

  In Singapore, business-owners received a mandatory six month prison sentence for employing foreigners not entitled to work in the country.
  
  In NZ we ought to strip immigrants of their NZ citizenship (if they have it) and their residence, if they are found to be exploiting other foreigners.
  
  I guarantee this would immediately end the problem of foreign-born employers exploiting their own.

  Even if a person from a “corrupt” culture is not corrupt, his compatriots will assume (and demand) that he comply with the social norms of their culture.   The ability for NZ to absorb migrants without serious disruption was the reason for our previous controlled modest uptake. We gave several months new supported migrants intensive training and introduced them to communities with a support network.
  
  Now they are overflowing in Mangare and having to stay there. This is a situation ripe for exploitation by their own people and all those who prey on them.

    The ability to absorb immigrants depends on several factors.
    – That they are immigrants and not colonists
    – That they have to work to support themselves (rather than buy a $2 million bolthole and spend most of the time back home on ‘business’)
    – That they are of a culture that will induce them to integrate into the wider community rather than form enclaves
    – That they will not set up their own private schools
    – Their numbers are limited
    – They come from a population with an average IQ roughly the same as that in the host country
    – They cannot bring their (medically dependent) aging parents here to live

  I just wonder what the immigrant communities reaction would be to deporting all immigrants who were allowed into NZ as part of the family of any person within that family who commits an offense were a prison term is available irrespective of if it is imposed ? Hint to National – prospective immigrant criminals are not going to vote for you but Taxpayers who foot the bill will. State Housing and it profits to benefit Maori – this is a disgusting piece of Racist Legislation –

State housing to become ‘our Maori village’
If “kainga” means “Maori village” and “ora” means “our”, renaming state housing as “our Maori village”, as the Kainga Ora–Homes and Communities Bill intends, appears an accurate name for housing that is largely occupied by Maori families.
Apparently, 35 percent of state house tenants identify as Maori, 27 percent as Pacific peoples, and 36 percent as European, according to the 2017 Housing New Zealand annual report.
However, there is more to the Kainga Ora–Homes and Communities Bill than a new name in “the language”. According to the bill’s explanatory note, the new entity will have two key roles, being a public housing landlord, and leading and co-ordinating urban development projects.
To bring this about, the bill:
• disestablishes the Housing New Zealand Corporation,
• puts Housing New Zealand’s functions and assets into Kainga Ora–Homes and Communities,
• repeals the Housing Corporation Act 1974,
• puts some of the functions and assets related to KiwiBuild that currently sit in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development into Kainga Ora–Homes and Communities.
The bill recognises Maori interests by:
• giving the board a duty to uphold the Treaty of Waitangi and its principles, to understand and apply Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993, and to engage with Maori and understand Maori perspectives,
• requiring understanding and support of Maori aspirations relating to urban development,
• requiring identification and protection of Maori interests and have early and meaningful engagement with Maori, and offer Maori opportunities to participate in urban development,
• preventing Kainga Ora–Homes and Communities from using Housing New Zealand’s exemptions in Treaty settlement legislation to override Rights of First Refusal.
There you have it. The Treaty and its principles will be front and centre of state housing, the development and management of which will focus on Maori interests and aspirations, while the rights to redevelop state house assets will be overtaken by the rights of first refusal by Treaty settlement entities to profit from any redevelopments.
One curious aspect of this bill is ironic. While the third “treaty principle” on Justice Cooke’s original principles list is clear that unreasonable restrictions on the right of a duly elected government to follow its chosen policy are off limits, the prioritising of iwi over government on the rights of first refusal on surplus state housing assets does just that — imposes an unreasonable restriction on the government.
The other curious aspect is that there has not been a squeak from Labour’s Maori caucus about the obvious cultural appropriation that appears in the virtue-signalling new name. Does this mean that the Maori caucus supports the white-liberal fetish of adopting Maori names to make an entity look correct?

They claim it breaches the service’s terms and conditions.

According to the report on Stuff the service explains “we do not tolerate the promotion of discrimination or exclusion.”

Except discrimination and exclusion when it come to religious freedom, evidently.

Israel Folau’s campaign shut down by GoFundMe, donors to be refunded

Sacked Wallaby Israel Folau’s attempt to crowdfund for his legal action against Rugby Australia has been shut down by GoFundMe, which will refund all money raised to donors.

Folau started a GoFundMe campaign last week, asking people to donate $3 million to fight Rugby Australia, which last month terminated his contract over a series of homophobic social media posts.

A spokesperson for GoFundMe said after a “period of evaluation”, the site had ruled Folau’s campaign violated its terms of service. The company said it would not tolerate the promotion of discrimination or exclusion. “We are absolutely committed to the fight for equality for LGBTIQ+ people and fostering an environment of inclusivity,” GoFundMe’s Australian regional director Nicola Britton said.

So, reading between the lines, GoFundMe has received “feedback” from the LGBTI community regarding Folau’s crowdfunding campaign. What was that NZ company last year that buckled under similar pressure?

  If people really do want to help someone who’s in an employment dispute over some unfair provision of their contract, there are plenty of them out there and most of them don’t have millions in property they could use to fund their case. Contact any of your local unions if you want to help.

  This issue has evolved very quickly into a whole range of outrage – right vs left, Christian vs Islam, free speech vs hate speech laws and so on. Every tribal cohort is taking sides on an issue a not very bright fella stumbled into and now probably doesn’t really understand what he’s created.
  Folau’s a Christian – so what, who cares. If he wants to spout his medieval fundamentalist Christian rubbish as a Christian individual he has the right to do that – he even offered to stand aside from his rugby contract in order to do so if his views were incompatible with his employer. They were – and he didn’t.
  So we have an employment dispute. The Folau’s then thought it cute to go begging to the general public to fund their lifestyle while seeing if they could screw millions from the ARFU. It’s their right I guess to try that angle, they clearly have no self respect and happy to belittle and demean genuine users of the GoFund Me page. But probably not much different from the Tamaki’s gouging/tithing half of South Auckland to fund their lifestyle in the name of God.
  Terms of employment are just that – agreed terms between two parties. If one want’s to break those terms he/she needs to walk away from the contract. This has nothing to do with free speech, religious freedom or libertarian rights. It’s a selfish git wanting to rake in the bucks but undermine the reputation of his employer by publically promoting his own extreme personal views at the same time. I wouldn’t know any employer who would put up with that.

      It’s a bit more complicated than a simple Breach of Contract.
      ‘The Daily Telegraph has reported that Folau refused to have a social media clause inserted into his contract’
      However Folau may have breached the Code of Conduct with regard to bring the game into disrepute-with his comments. (I would have thought he’s just brought himself into disrepute) But ironically the Code also prohibits religious discrimination – and Folau could claim that as mitigating his comments.

  I do believe that the people who have donated will ensure Folau gets his money some other way. The GoFundMe reversal has actually given Folua more publicity. Fundamental Christians will see this as Good Vs Evil and will happily donate to his cause. For my part, as a Catholic, I disagree with his theology, however, I will defend his right to preach his version of the Truth. And as a Catholic I support him taking on the current PC mob who are trying to overthrow conservative western morality with their version of anything goes, and the more perverse, the better. I have nothing against gays or any of the other LBGTQWhat the F else, but I am sick of them foisting their version of what constitutes normality on us heterosexuals and making us feel that we are the deviants in society.       While flying into an Australian international airport recently a Customs official grabbed my immigration card, marked it and gave it back to me. Good I thought, I’m going to get passed through. I was wrong. I was taken aside from other passengers and forced to stand in a line with about a dozen other unfortunates. Then we waited while a dog and handler was arranged and run along the line, vigorously sniffing us all as we stood there.
      
      Nothing was found and we were told we could leave. I objected to what had happened but the Customs officers said something like “too bad you’re upset mate”.
      
      In fact these ignorant misguided heavily uniformed power drunk thugs had just breached one of the most basic tenets of Western civilisation, being that no one who is not under suspicion of committing a crime should be stopped and searched by authorities (police, customs whoever) while going about their lawful business.
      
      My protests along these lines to the officers concerned fell on completely deaf ears.
      
      Now, admittedly this incident wasn’t quite as dramatic as Redbaiter’s legendary toll bridge protest, but I think that Redbaiter passed up an opportunity to tell those officials what they were (knuckledragging Marxist scum), and potentially bring about changes to airport security that would improve all of our lives!
