  I enjoy a beer, a wine with a meal and the occasional Whiskey. I also acknowledge that in the wider community there are those who abuse alcohol to a massive extent.
  
  My issue with financial sanctions on Alcohol is that those who abuse it will continue to do so without thought of the downstream consequences. If a baby can die with a Blood Alcohol level 6 times the legal limit because the Breast feeding mum downs a whole box of RTDs, then why would a price rise make a difference if the life of their children is secondary to getting wasted.

      The pathologist found no alcohol in the stomach contents, and could not explain how that could be if the baby had ingested the booze from the milk, or presumably straight from the bottle. Furthermore, if the baby had that level of alcohol, the mother must have had way more. In the absence of evidence of a blood transfusion, it is hard to see an explanation.

Presumably he will now be dealing with Spanish Bride over the subscription database, the Disqus account (if he succeeds in that my ‘banning’ will become meaningless) and old stories that were transferred across.

    Cam was taken ill at the time of Matt’s defamation trial against Cam. After the first day Cam commented on the trial including an attack on Matt’s lawyer Felix (Felix is also one of Nicky Hager’s lawyers). Most of that was deleted very quickly no doubt on orders of the Judge (judges have a duty to support officers of the High Court which barristers and solicitors are) and Cam has not been heard from since. One does not upset judges.
    
    Felix would now be re-sharpening his knife to continue the thousand cuts on behalf of Matt. Spanish Bride will be at the sharp end of things. Could be popcorn time next week.

      Someone has been circulating here trying to upset the liquidator (a past associate of Slater who may or may not be working with him now). That seems fairly stupid.

        How was value obtained ?
        
        If more than one potential purchaser then where is the information confirming all this
        
        Brian Henry is by far the biggest creditor
        
        Colin Craig has no award due to him
        
        Blomfield’s number of $2.5m is just that .. a number. Yet to be determined.
        
        There is no escaping the fact Ms Toon should have not taken the liquidation given the stories about her husband – that’s a conflict for sure
        
        Geiringer saying the site is not yet in Blomfield’s hands yet the Herald seems to think it is
        
        The Standard seems to think the OA conducted the sale
        
        Well which is it ???
        
        There is a process to follow – and I doubt that’s been done

        Seems the Police are taking it seriously. Hence they need to be assured the author of the letter is indeed Ms Toon hence the Police request for her to front up at a police station which seems fair enough.
        If there is the possibility of Crimes Act charges in the air, then Spanish Bride and associates would have no option to shut down theBFD. It would be doubtful they would have the psychological or financial capability to fight charges.
        Matt is probably supplying the liquidator with bullets to fire and perhaps some financial help (he may have paid the liquidator over the top for the site).

        Iirc, the only time a Liquidator is an Officer of the Court is if the Court has appointed the Liquidator-usually the Official Assignee.
        Mainly Liquidators are appointed by Creditors. Anybody can be a Liquidator. They just have to comply with all the requirements of the Companies Office for Liquidating a Company. Those Liquidators are not Officers of the Court.
        As I’ve mentioned before, The Whaleoil website doesn’t ‘own’ the subscribers. They have free will to stop going there and to go somewhere else.
        Of course with no visitors then the site is worth nothing.
        As for the List of Subscribers, the Terms of Service might allow the names to be sold- which is common.
        As long as that money is paid into the Company account then that’s fine.
        Same with Discus. Individuals have their own Discus account. All web sites have to do is Register with Discus which then allows individual to use their account to log in.

        ‘All on Red’ – your comment was nested too deeply to be replied to, so I am doing it here.
        Does not matter whether liquidator is an ‘officer of the court’ – the court must anyway help a liquidator with legitimate demands.
        It would seem that Matt is calling the shots here. As long as he does not try to gain preference over other creditors that is fine. It would be fair to say that Matt’s objective is utu, not cash.
        Whaleoil site does not own the subscribers but it does own the list which is valuable commercial property. The liquidator is of the opinion that Spanish Bride or associates improperly took the list (and the Disqus account). Matt has purchased it warts and all (presumably other creditors were comfortable with this) but the ability to mount legal action would have transferred with the asset he purchased. There are various legal remedies available and Felix is no doubt considering the best way forward. Part of the deal is that the liquidator is to help Matt get value for the purchase hence Ms Toon’s continuing involvement.
        Any ‘terms of service’ do not bind the liquidator, just as a liquidator can break leases.
        Transferring assets out of an insolvent company is a no-no, they can be clawed back even from an innocent party (see Supreme Court case the other day where Bob Jones has to pay money back to an insolvent company). So Matt and/or liquidator are able to act against Spanish Bride and associated interests in this regard. I doubt that SB is sufficiently resourced to deal with it especially if possible Crimes Act charges are in the air.
        Felix will no doubt be looking at ways to capture the Disqus account (where I have been banned with respect to the Whaleoil/theBFD list).

        As a competent valuer I find it difficult to ascribe value to a list of WO’s former subscribers. They are individuals and free to go where they please. Their listing is essentially only for a potential mailout. A list does not ensure future subs.
        
        Commercial value? Requires follow on substance to realise anything for the future from it. It’s value died with Cam’s retirement. Others may like to have it to carry on a feud but that is not a proper consideration.
        
        I support Juanita in turning her back on the past. Anyone who continues with her is doing so of their own choice. No list compels them.

        Peter, you really don’t understand how Discus works. The BFD will have its own arrangement with Discus. Just like many other blogs. That includes being able to block Discus users like you if they want.
        The BFDs arrangements with Discus have nothing to do with the old site. I know, cause I use Discus if I want to comment.
        You’re grasping at straws about the Subscribers too.
        As Kev points out, the List is worthless and the Subscribers can go where they want. No one ‘owns’ commentators. All the BFD has done is , like they do with Discus, provide a portal for them to Log In.
        They haven’t been ‘taken’ . They came by themselves.
        Your comment about the Terms of Service not being binding is moot, GIVEN THE SUBSCRIBERS HAVE ALREADY LEFT.
        As for the Liquidators claims, no one has posted specifically what crimes are alleged to have been broken.
        Besides, Toon is an Accountant not a Lawyer.
        Let’s see if she actually files complaints and they are taken seriously.
        I think you need to realise that it’s Slater who is Bankrupt, not his wife. Her business activities can continue.
        Oh, and Toon should not be giving preference to just one Creditor. They should be treated equally.
        I am aware the system can be gamed by the biggest creditor which could be Brian Henry according to ‘record guy’ who does seem to know what’s going on more than you and George.

        Going by how ‘record guy’ assisted Slater in a disastrous defamation trial I wouldn’t put much value on what he claims to know. He has a court record of making baseless claims.
        
        His current (one of many) names may come from a record he set a few years ago – attempting court action using the HDC Act a year before it became effective.

        I don’t know what record guy knows. He may be a creditor, if so would know. But in another bankruptcy he claimed to be a creditor and that was rejected by a judge because no proof of debt was provided. So I wouldn’t rely on anything he claims.
        
        I don’t know who Slater’s biggest creditor is, or will be. Henry is likely top be large. There’s quite a bit pending in three defamation cases. there have been damages and costs awards against him v Blomfield, but the largest amount of trial costs and damages is yet to be determined. That’s not until next year I think. But Slater was found to have no defence and I think isn’t contesting (the Official Assignee probably has say over that), so it is likely to be substantial. Slater and others seem to have deliberately caused substantial business damages. And it’s been a six year case and Slater has had a number of failed proceedings in trying to delay and avoid, so costs to date could be substantial.
        
        Whatever, outstanding debts will be high for several creditors. So it’s possible a number of creditors will be pushing for discovery of any assets that may have been moved.

        Not necessarily.
        
        If he is found to have had any assets he would lose them. If he has any income he may have to contribute towards debts from that.
        
        Same for Social Media Consultants Limited.
        
        He is already finding it difficult to retain legal assistance. Employment and business opportunities will be affected.
        
        If TheBDF shuts down I presume subscribers will be unsecured creditors. That must affect decisions to subscribe with the risk of getting nothing for your money.
        
        Soliciting subscriptions while insolvent could be an issue.
        
        Declaring bankruptcy is not just a get of of debt of or nothing card.
        
        Bankruptcy is usually for 3 years, but not always. Nottingham’s is 4 years (at this stage).

        Bankruptcy stays on a persons Credit Record for seven years.
        Then they are clear.
        I doubt the Official Assignee would wear any objection for him to banned from being a Director after he’s out as he didn’t (arguably) deliberately and fraudulently mismanage his business.
        You’d be a mug if you think he has any assets- now…
        His wife’s assets should not be able to be touched. Plenty of case law proving that.
        As for the BFD, if he isn’t a Shareholder then that can’t be touched either. Good luck proving he’s financially involved and even if he is giving advice on content there’s nothing you can do about that either.
        You’re engaging in quite a bit of wishful thinking about subscribers and the BFD too. They’re his supporters remember.
        As for him working. Again he no doubt has his supporters. Being a Bankrupt doesn’t stop you working.
        He’ll be allowed to keep income up to a certain level too.
        Sorry, but it’s pretty much game over really.

        “all on red” – theBFD should make my day and feature me in ‘crybaby of the week’, that would be a real hoot. I will print a screenshot and hang it on the wall.
        Perhaps reminding people that I have been banned is a bit detrimental to theBFD. theBFD can always undo the damage by un-banning me. At least being banned has three advantages:
        1. I need not waste time posting comments on theBFD
        2. I am unable to take out a sub for theBFD premium content.
        3. I cannot be banned twice while the first ban remains.

“Hundreds of university students have marched on the offices of law firm Russell McVeagh to protest sexual harassment in the workplace.

Dressed in black as a symbol of solidarity with victims of sexual violence, the crowd snaked down Lambton Quay shouting chants such as: “Russell McVeagh, assaulting people is not OK”.

It follows a series of stories by Newsroom that revealed five summer clerks who were part of the 2015-2016 summer internship programme at Russell McVeagh made allegations ranging from sexual assault to rape against two of the firm’s lawyers.

Russell McVeagh’s office is in a high rise next to Midland Park, a popular lunch spot for Wellington CBD workers.

Many were stunned when the students arrived en masse and filled the park holding placards and shouting into loudspeakers.

The rally was organised by Victoria University of Wellington’s Students’ Association, Law Students’ Society and Feminist Law Society.

Beforehand the march received the blessing of the university’s vice-chancellor Grant Guilford, who told the crowd that the appalling incidents would hopefully lead to society working together to solve the problem.

“Russell McVeagh is not the root of the problem, only its ugly face.”
He reiterated that the university would not be working with Russell McVeagh until the results of its internal inquiry were known.

Rally organisers are calling on the Government to also suspend any further Crown work with Russell McVeagh until after the inquiry.

Ella Hughes, one of the organisers, said everyone had known about the entrenched behaviour in the legal profession for years but nothing had been done.

The rally was organised by Victoria University of Wellington’s Students’ Association, Law Students’ Society and Feminist Law Society.

Beforehand the march received the blessing of the university’s vice-chancellor Grant Guilford, who told the crowd that the appalling incidents would hopefully lead to society working together to solve the problem.

“Russell McVeagh is not the root of the problem, only its ugly face.”
He reiterated that the university would not be working with Russell McVeagh until the results of its internal inquiry were known.

Rally organisers are calling on the Government to also suspend any further Crown work with Russell McVeagh until after the inquiry.

Ella Hughes, one of the organisers, said everyone had known about the entrenched behaviour in the legal profession for years but nothing had been done.”

No doubt they are organising their protest for this week as we speak. There will certainly be calls for the government to suspend any further work with the Labour Party based on the allegations

  Back in early August 2017, the likes on this site exploded 20 fold overnight, well before election.

Our current regime is a form of eco-communism. We are not allowed plastic bags, roads are bad, cars that are not electric are also bad. They ban all these things, and the savings go to helping the poor and those effected by climate change.
Taking this into account I want to put forward my own eco-communism idea.
Ban toilet paper.
No more disposable toilet paper any more. Only reusable linen rolls.
Use, wash, use again.
Hear me out.
Savings on trees. Help grow the 1 billion trees that Shane is working on.
Savings on importing toilet paper from overseas.
Lowering carbon footprint.
And, best of all. Huge boost for jobs in NZ, as the drycleaning business explodes.
Think about it. Another world first. Putting NZ on the map with things that matter.

On Sean Plunket’s yesterday a farmer phoned in to thank him for siding with the farmers . You could hear the caller really had a case about the effects on the farming community of this virulent vilification of farming.

      There will inevitably be times of tightness. Advertising campaigns calling for restraint are a valid option and sufficient people respond to make it worthwhile. Also older power stations nearing the end of their useful lives provide a valuable backup in case lakes are low, wind does not blow etc. Huntly is the prime example (minimal capital cost since it already has been paid for but high standby and running costs).

  It is not the grid itself that was unstable, but that the grid operator unexpectedly lost two generators so he or she would have to cut power to some areas to re-balance the grid until alternative generators could be run up and synchronised in. What would have been of concern is if the whole UK grid fell flat on its face (this is very serious and it would take many hours to sort out). The cuts may have been ‘automatic’ – see below).
  The grid operator usually ‘buys’ sufficient ‘spinning reserve’ (generators running but on a small fraction of available output) to deal with this sort of thing in most cases but would not want to pay for excessive ‘spinning reserve’.
  The New Zealand grid has an automatic system to disconnect 20% then another 20% of load in case of generation or transmission line failures (especially the Cook Strait cables and associated lines Benmore to Haywards) that would overwhelm the grid. The Tiwai Point smelter operators will also help by temporarily reducing load (ok as long as the aluminium remains molten) because they do not want to suffer from a grid collapse.
  Also steps were commenced 50 years ago by the former NZ Electricity Department to make the national grid resilient to earthquakes and the success of this was demonstrated when the two Christchurch earthquakes had minimal effect on the four (I think) ‘grid exit point’ substations there.
  The engineer (Harry Coleridge Hitchcock – his dad had a senior role in the Coleridge Power Station Project) who led the earthquake project became a world authority on the matter.

    Surely the smelter load has little National impact as the power from Manapouri cannot readily be transferred further Northwards due to a lack of interconnection capacity ?
    
    That’s a major reason that they keep the cost of power to Tiwai point so very low as there’s little alternative use for the power should the smelter close. There is a plan to improve the connectivity, but the cost is in the $B range.

      I am talking about very short term things. AFAIK if the Tiwai operator sees that the frequency is significantly below 50Hz the operator would reduce load to help the Grid recover. It could be if the 220kV lines north of Invercargill become slightly overloaded the grid operator would either ease back Manapouri output or ask Tiwai to increase load.
      If Tiwai closes (it is all about tough negotiating) granted a few billion would be needed to beef up transmission, but this would cost far less than new generation. Yes Tiwai closure would financially hurt, but the damage would be far, far less than the damage related to Shane Jones’ slush fund.

        -overseas earnings of exported aluminum lost
        -increased CO2 emissions as bauxite is transferred to asian smelters for processing (coal powered)
        
        This is on top of the $billions in cost it is estimated to redirect the Manapouri power northwards. There is no scenario where closing Tiwai makes economic sense, which of course means the chances of the COL approving it much higher. Because … ideology.

Newshub can reveal new details about the restrictions placed on the alleged victims of a Labour Party staffer while their allegations of sexual harassment and bullying were being investigated.

Leaked emails from the Labour Party to the complainants tell the alleged victims to avoid certain areas of Parliament.

“We feel that maintaining a physical separation is an appropriate interim measure,” said Labour Party General Secretary Andre Anderson.
The accused staffer was also told to avoid a particular area of Parliament.

“That’s appalling. They are literally fearful. I’m hearing of panic attacks, severe anxiety, and they are told to avoid the person that’s causing that?” Deputy Leader of the National Party, Paula Bennett, told Newshub.

That the staffer is not stood down, while investigations are made, would in this situation seem somewhat illogical, so other logic perhaps raises the question – “What leverage may the staffer have against being stood down, since that hasn’t yet happened?”

  My understanding is that although there is an investigation, it is an investigation into the process only and the Labour Party hierarchy has announced that the outcome (i.e. the staff member is vindicated) will not change.
  There can be no other explanation for the fact that he remains on duty.
  Astonishingly, it is the victims who are advised not to go near him and have been advised to stay clear of areas where there may be contact.

    Nookin, it appears there are further complaints that have not been made to Ardern’s office, or Parliamentary or ministerial services, so they likely have not investigated those.
    
    The Prime Minister wouldn’t be interviewed, but a spokesperson told Newshub the issues raised with Bennett have not been raised with Ardern’s office, Parliamentary or ministerial services – to the best of their knowledge.

    Paula Bennett has apparently contacted Speaker Mallard concerning the issue and of course made statements to the media, so if it is not followed through it will be slightly bizarre to say the least.
    
    And I don’t know that Prime Minister Ardern can make remarks to the likes of the UN General Assembly, regarding “Me Too should be We Too”, without sorting such a situation in her own office among her own staff – and hope to maintain any credibility.

So Bob Jones (or rather his company) lost a Supreme Court case meaning that his company has to pay back a liquidated company money paid to Bob’s company.
It has attracted media attention because of Bob’s high public profile. But in reality it is just another day at the office for both Bob and the liquidators.
Bob’s legal advice would probably have been that he had little chance of succeeding but Bob would have been taking a stand on behalf of all those, tradies included, who had their bills paid then had to face a liquidator wanting the money back.
Bob could do this because he was the only one at risk (he is probably out of pocket by $100k or so including lower court actions). In the general case, if company directors or trustees took this sort of action in the face of adverse legal advice, they could be personally liable for the costs involved.
Thanks Bob, for your public spiritedness in taking this matter right up to the Supreme Court.

“At what point was it decided to treat the Letter, written by the Associate Minister, on Ministerial Letterhead, to the Minister of Transport, as political correspondence?”

From Genter’s answers in Parliament, it would appear that this decision was taken at a point after the letter was written.

      It would work just the same way as Clinton’s system did. Until others were aware of the existence of the private server it’s messages were not available under FOIA; and once it’s existence was acknowledged the powers that be allowed Clinton to decide what was too politically explosive to release and allowed her to delete and wipe (not with a cloth) those messages even while under a valid subpoena to produce them.
      
      And when what looks like a significant chunk of those emails turn up on ex-Congressman Weiner’s Laptop (despite the fact that he had no security clearance) an exceptional amount of effort is made to ensure that these will not ever be examined.
      
      Not sure that we have quite such an irredeemably corrupt bureaucracy as existed under Obama, but not from a lack of trying by this mob. As we all know, it is entirely different when they do it.

Despicable tactics being used in America as Democratic Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro (appropriate name for him) doxxes his constituents that donated to Trump, posting them on his Twitter feed. Many of the people named have now been threatened, harassed at work and at home and are fearful.

One should be able to donate to whatever candidate one likes without fear of reprisal but that is where they are in America now, using any tactic, no matter how disgusting, to get what they want. They are becoming desperate.

    In my six years at Kiwiblog, what follows is at least the third time I have explained why I blog under my real name, that being to make sure I interact with other commenters in a reasonable and respectful manner; to make sure I give some thought to my comments before posting them; and to make sure I comply with DPF’s rules.     You claim to use a pseudonym because you have a business and public profile.     One only has to look at Tony Stuart. He abandoned his pseudonym and is much the happier for having done so. He has informed us that he appreciates giving more thought to what he wants to say. Instead of being just another anonymous punter, his comments are now worth taking on board, because, like David Garrett (especially), he now displays the courage of his convictions.

I have raised a pilot of high tech incinerators with a couple of MPs. Answer was – Greens would be totally up in arms and the backlash from them would stop the idea dead in its tracks.

National has not yet published most of its policies and is due to do so in 2020. There will be environmental policies for sure. I reckon high tech incinerators would be well received by voters. Fox type disasters would be a thing of the past, eventually.

As far as I understand, the current scandals this government is mired in are:
-Green Party blackmailing the labour party to support Let’s Get Welly Moving or else they’ll pull out of government.
-NZ First pulling the rug from under the Abortion debate last minute and demanding a referendum.
-Leaders office staffer or similar making unwanted sexual advances on government staff, threatening them etc. Multiple complaints made. Nothing done about it. Cover up apparent?
-The PM putting her foot in her mouth and potentially screwing over all previous Waitangi Tribunal settlements and general property law, by deciding to get involved in Ihaumata.

Did we all collectively imagine these?!?!?

Because it bloody feels like I did!?!?

There’s almost zero being reported in Stuff and Herald. What’s going on?!

As New Zealand’s intake of refugees increases, more will be settled in regions and small towns, Stuff reports today.

The inflow is going to get bigger, perhaps much bigger if this is any indication: an interview with one Namrud Asrat, 36, an Eritrean refugee:

” … he hoped the New Zealand Government would help more refugees move here, because not having family nearby is the hardest thing for us.”

Nasrat misses his wife and family (Stuff doesn’t report how many children), and his parents.

The refugee immigration surge is going to have a long tail as families and extended families are brought in. Previously, many used New Zealand as a stop-over on the way to Australia, but the Aussies are tightening up on their New Zealand back door.

Here’s more on our media’s immigration stance:

One of Stuff’s New Age males, Grant Shimmin, whose primary job seems to be desk journalist in one of Stuff’s provincial newspapers, admits in the Christchurch Press today that he wrote the headline on the Stuff column this week by the anti-Western scribbler, Donna Miles-Mojab.

It read: “New Zealanders’ white anxiety needs a democratic outlet.”

Well, Shimmin, it does. That outlet would be a return of a newspaper chain that reflect middle New Zealand rather than the ill-informed, biased Left.

Shimmin describes Miles-Mojab as an Iranian immigrant to New Zealand. In fact, she was born in Scotland, though her parents were Iranian. She’s one of the local-born first generation of the Muslim inflow into the West that illustrates the difficulty of integrating Muslims into the West compared with immigrants from other Western countries, and even compared with assimilating Chinese, Indian, and Japanese.

Shimmin says in part of his own views: “The more diversity I see and experience, the more realise it’s the way things should be.”

If Shimmin is still a desk journo on Stuff’s Timaru newspaper, he won’t see a helluva lot of diversity in that town. Even New Zealand as a whole is ranked between 102 and about 140 in diversity in these two rankings on Wikipedia. The lists are a few years behind, but NZ cannot have become a diversity leader in the time since then:

I think we need to see more investigation into the case of the baby who died after its mother drank alcohol. Baby Sapphire was reported as having more than six times the legal blood alcohol limit for an adult driver. That is a lot of alcohol.

Did the alcohol in the baby all get there via the mother’s breast milk or was the baby made to ingest alcohol directly?

  Rough calculation, but less than half a 330ml can of premix could account for alcohol in baby.
  Given the length of time the mother was drinking (18 cans), and that the baby had underlying medical issues (and hence cried a lot), is it possible that she dabbed enough on the baby’s gums to reach that volume of premix? Would explain why alcohol not found in stomach.

You knew something was not quite right in the Green Party when James Shaw was told by his supporters to remove the hit advert from the media on taking the micky out of Simon Bridge over the way he speaks , but it seems there is a lot of open wounds in the Party that James Shaw needs to address.

Not what the MSM present us.
It would be interesting to see what the NZ equivalent poll would show. My guess is the NZ young are little behind the UK in the change of views.

I enjoy youthing. Today I start my 81st over, I am truly blest since re-marriage nearly 19 years ago. My late wife of 40 years had died only 18 month before from cancer.
I’ve been recycled but not to Grrreeeen standards. If younger I would be leading a Magenta Party to deal with them and the global warming untruths.

I was one of Muldoon’s team in 1975 and nearly turned a Labour stronghold into a marginal seat.
Also I spent 7 years in Samoa and re-created their tax system. That was followed by establishing the Samoa National Provident Fund which has accounts for all earners.

At present I’m partway through writing the memoirs of my first eighty years. I’m an amateur social historian so it may be of wider interest than my grtgchildren. My health is good so expectations are reasonable. My wife is an Anglican Priest.

My best wishes to all.

Herald’s suggested options for Ihumatao.

One: Fletcher could gift the land to Iwi
No, as they are responsible to shareholders. Cannot just give $36m away. Iwi want the development.

Two: Government purchase the land and return it to mana whenua.
I note that “mana whenua” is being used, as trying to make trespasser NIMBYs legitimate. Cannot “return” it as these people never owned it. Te Kawerau a Maki (actual legitimate Iwi) has had a settlement, which included compensation (again) for land confiscated. Giving this land to them would open floodgates to other settlements being re-litigated.
“The reason private land had been excluded from negotiations was arbitrary and made no sense if there was a willing seller as in this case”, [Professor Margaret] Mutu said. Not arbitrary, as based on two wrongs don’t make a right. While in this case we know the owner is willing to sell (at a price) we don’t know if in future cases there is backroom pressure put on owner (no future contracts with government, re-zoning of land, “incentives” not directly linked with “disputed” land).

Three: Auckland Council could purchase the land and return it to mana whenua. Some land could be allocated for Maori housing.
Open to judicial review as not best use of council money. How will ratepayers accept paying #36m for a now worthless piece of land? Also, SOUL exists to prevent housing, so a no go.

Four: The status quo. A solution reached between all parties would likely need to see a greater area of land protected but with some housing options for mana whenua.
Again, the NIMBYs are against ANY housing. There is already a solution reached between all parties with a legitimate interest.

There is a solution: it is called apply and enforce the law, and protect the legal rights, under Declaration of Human Rights and NZ Law, of Fletchers, and Te Kawerau a Maki.

    The bottom lines of both Fletchers and Nimbys cannot both be met, no matter who is mediating. Fletchers need to get back investment from either selling (at least $19m they paid for land), or developing. Nimbys cannot even accept one house as destroys basis for their arguments.
    
    Politically, Labour needs to distance itself, as NZ First, ACT and Nats will all make electoral capital at election if they purchase the land.

An interview with a climate scientist is shown where the following figures are agreed –
1 – The atmosphere is around 0.04 percent CO2.

2 – Of that amount, 97 percent is natural and 3 percent is from “human contributions”. (Remember, this is a climate scientist saying that this is the case).

So, if my maths is correct, just over **one thousandth** (0.04 x 0.03) of the atmosphere consists of “human-generated” CO2.
Even if our contribution were to **quadruple**, that would only be four-thousandths of the atmosphere (and still hugely below the natural contribution).

Call me a pancake and cover me with maple syrup but **that** doesn’t exactly strike me as a cause for *panic*.
