Trump won because he talked about China stealing jobs in the rust belt. Meanwhile the Dems were talking about trans-sexual toilets and calling what should have been their base the ‘deplorables’. If they push too much further though she’ll be forced to enter and that’ll be politically dangerous for Labour. There was a poll on Newshub yesterday (biased to left wing readers I’d think) that showed something like 80% opposed to tearing down statues.

        I get that your support is based on emotion not rationality and that’s cool. We live in a world where the majority of people have religious beliefs that violate every law of science so you’re not alone. However they don’t go out of their way to see have their beliefs challenged because they’re engaged in narrative which requires self-deception which they know will be psychologically devastating if it’s revealed as a lie. Even if I did provide you with a litany of Trumps lies you would continue with the same self-deception rather then face the facts of who Trump is. It’s probably less stressful on yourself because I understand you are of pensionable age with a predilection for drink which puts you in a high risk category.   There was a BLM protest gathering in our town square last weekend.
  The resulting print media photos showed many young college girls holding up homemade placards with anti-racism slogans. No problem.
  But, the girls seemed to be really enjoying their day out – nice pics of them hugging each other, jumping on friend’s back while holding their sign aloft – all with happy smiles and grins
  I’m not knocking them for their efforts, but really, you would have thought they were attending a “we love Jacinda” rally.

It is pretty clear it was written by Goffs spin team.

It says that the opinions of older white people should be ignored in the consultation process.

Todd, it is most egregious article i have seen for some time. Hang your head in shame.

” The requirement to consult on a proposed council budget usually results in the views of older, whiter and wealthier Aucklanders having a disproportionate say.

In last year’s budget consultation 69 per cent of responses came from the over-45s, and only 6 per cent from Māori or Pasifika.

Māori and Pasifika, made up 54 per cent of feedback on the council’s climate change action framework, and under-26s made up nearly half – with early climate action by council at risk in the proposed budget.

There is too much at stake in this year’s “Emergency Budget” to let the normal process run its course, and the politicians simply take on board the views of a possibly unrepresentative slice of the population.”

  The Council should not have such a thing. The cost of emissions is priced into the ETS. Climate change is not the business of Auckland Council. So get rid of that. For a start. Local government in New Zealand is beyond mad.

  Or that in the majority of cases that did not produce anti-bodies, Covid-19 was handled by the bodies primary “firewall” and line of defenses. i.e. the mucous layer/cilia hair extraction system lining the lungs airways. This defence mechanism also deals with other viruses in the same manner.
  
  In other words, the people were exposed, but not infected, and had existing antibodies capable of handling the virus, or antibodies that were not created because the virus did not get past the primary defenses. Add into that the research from Australia in observing the first Australian case, and the immune response mechanisims in dealing with Covid-19 were identical to that of the flu.
  
  As I have been saying all along, you cannot know the true mortality rate until you know the true exposure rate, which is always going to be far higher than the infection rate.
  
  And as I have also been saying, because the body using the same defence mechanisms against Covid-19 as the flu, and that this was widely know from the outset, WHO, and our health authourites should have been telling us what we can do to build up our immunity. Instead they told us nothing would help, and there was no cure, until a vaccine was found. The WHO is nothing more than a mouthpiece for WHOever funds them.

    We should also be aware that unlike MMR, later vaccines, for complex or engineered virus strains, are designed kill off some existing antibodies in order to get the new antibodies to work.
    
    Any medicine or vaccine that has to kill off a natural body immune response to put in an other ‘defence’ has to be suspect. If the body will naturally mount a defence and prevent a vaccine from taking hold, then the body immune system is doing its job, and the body considers something in the vaccine is a threat.
    
    Deploying a vaccine that kills off existing antibodies, would be like deploying Robocop on the police force, but a percentage of police are unwilling to let Robocop have full control. So the government decide for the ‘greater good’ that Robocop should kill off the dissenting police so that Robocop can do his job fully.

        I’m not suggesting that’s how vaccines normally work or how existing vaccines work. I thought I made that clear. It is however what I have been reading about how many new vaccines are being constructed.
        
        I was reading recently, from the medical data of new vaccines, whereby they have to disable or kill off existing antibodies in order to produce new antibodies, that would otherwise be blocked by existing antibodies. It was a few weeks ago I read it.
        
        Some viruses / bacteria are hard to vaccinate against because of mutation, which I’m sure you would agree. Some viruses more resemble parasites or nanobots than cellular creatures in their behaviour.
        
        In comparison to our knowledge of viruses/bacteriophages now, that knowledge will quite in a few decades or hundreds of years, be quite different because mankind is still stumbling around in the dark because scientists still do not know where they came from or their purpose, much like most of life’s core mysteries.

I’m not a psychologist. But the contagion of Black Lives Matter in New Zealand has parallels with the Climate Change protests, which have fortunately died away post pandemic. These, mostly young, New Zealanders know literally nothing about race relations in the USA. Just like they know nothing about climate change.

If they really cared about injustice, hatred, and violence, they could protest against the senseless killing in New Zealand of young children and sometimes their mothers, by violent men. Of course these men are disproportionately Maori. So that’s awkward.

    As a young(ish) person [at 24] I moved to the USA in 20002 (lived in Nevada, then Hawaii). My partner lived in North Carolina in the 1980s between the ages of 23 and 25 (doing his PhD at RTP).
    
    We literally knew nothing about race relations in the USA. And even if some of them presume to know, the lived experience is vastly different from what textbooks, media and Hollywood would have you believe.

  It’s quite good that we live in a place where we’re allowed to protest. Sometimes people protest in various ways about freedom of speech. Sometimes protests are about state control and authoritarianism.

    Maggy, its a bad sign physically, but possibly a good sign mentally.
    
    All those unnecessary job losses, suicides and deaths in older people caused by hopelessness, will or should be weighing her down and eating away inside her. That is, if she has a conscience and is cognscent of the damage she has inflicted in the lives of NZers.
    
    What she did with the lock down was not rational, and now that information becoming more public that Covid-19 in NZ was not a threat, she should be suffering remorse for her actions. It is a good sign that she has some vestige of a conscience.
    
    If she was looking very healthy and upbeat, with no care in the world, it would be a sign that she no longer had any conscience. In which case she would not have buckled under public pressure to end the lock down.
    
    What would partially release that heavy weight on her shoulders is to be transparent and admit that what she did was wrong, and stand down.

        Unless a diet includes essential oils and adequate good cholesterol intake, the brain can get starved of good cholesterol.
        
        There are plenty of studies that correlate low cholesterol with dementia, and a number of neurological diseases created by either low cholesterol directly or through nerve sheaths deteriorating and causing corruption of nerve data.

Last night i turned on the Rugby . Except I thought I was on the wrong channel.TVNZ the Labour Party propaganda Channel . There was control freak number Two slippery Robertson given us all a Party Political broadcast in fact electioneering for the General Election in September . He was ranting on how good they were in their recent late decision to shut down NZs border and help prevent the Coronavirus spreading .
So far so good .What he didn’t say and wont is NZs economy was turned into ashes as well as massive unemployment has kicked in .Plus businesses destroyed.
As for his Electioneering speech the nation of NZ are over the type of how good Ardern and Co they were in the crisis. We were daily preached at by NZs number one Political control freak “Auntie Cindy Ardern” .We are over it .
Let us hope the type of backslapping by Labour and how good they were . Even allowing Maori Radicals to operate roadblocks willy nilly and Police to enter Private home without Warrants.
Maybe today Control Freak Number One Ardern dosnt also do the Labour Party electioneering trick at the Rugby just before the kickoff .
How about NZs National Anthem being beamed around the World, we deserve it.Go figure.

Quelle surprise. Washington Post reports statistics from two Universities, Michigan and Maryland, that show the opposite to the premise that Police in the US are racist and kill black people because of that racism.
The study tracked every police shooting in every precinct across the country, it found that more white people are killed by police, both armed and unarmed, and controlling for crime rates, white people are disproportionately killed by officers. In fact, when there is a police shooting, black citizens are more likely to have been shot by black officers.
In 2019, 1,003 armed people were killed by police, including 405 whites, 249 black, and 349 listed as “other.” In 2019, 55 unarmed people were killed by police, including 25 whites, 14 blacks, and 16 listed as “other.”
The statistics show more armed and unarmed white people are killed by police each year than any other race.

  A couple of things. Clearly there was dissent among Te Keepa’s descendants because the statue’s likeness was challenged up to the Court of Appeal. Given the family lost, there may still be resentment there meaning taking it down could be seen as a family victory.
  
  But the wider question is why are memorials being taken down. It started as a response to that figure having been at some stage in their career a slaver. Because those figures were white, the messaging very quickly changed to ring because the statues depicted white figures.
  
  To me we have to be clear, and there are consequences no matter the decision.
  
  Are they being removed because they are white figures? If so, that is clearly racist. It cannot be viewed as anything else.
  
  Or are they being removed because somewhere in their history they were a slaver? If that is the case you must treat any monument of a slaver the same way. Including the one on Wellington waterfront of Kupe, who travelled to NZ with among others, two slaves. There will be many other examples, such as Te Rauparaha Arena, as slavery was a widespread practice among Maori before colonisation.

Last night on the 5:30 TV news they showed a map of the USA with the States that had a surge in Covid cases. They displayed the States coloured red but a screen gab showed that the majority of them should have been coloured Blue.
On the same news they listed cities that had their Police forces sued for for wrongful actions (NYC $1 billion). They were also all Democratic cities.
Says a lot for both the US and NZ Fourth Estates.

A few days ago Marlborough’s top cop got pinged doing 150kph because he was running a bit late for a meeting.

I have just finished reading a story in what the late Sir Paul Holmes used to call The Royal New Zealand Herald.
It’s another victim-laden piece of journalism about a young Maori couple complaining about two police constables trying to remove a toddler from a ‘funeral home’ (what used to be called the undertakers) because they’d mistakenly believed a caregiver had rights to the body.
The grieving parents are aggrieved about that and also about no-one’s offered apologies.
But here’s the thing:
The little boy had been in the care of the much-reviled Oranga Tamariki pretty much since his birth two years ago. He had been living with a caregiver elsewhere. He was admitted to hospital with a serious head injury.
I’m sorry they’ve lost their child. Parents should never have to bury a child.
But it reminded me that earlier in the week the Commissioner for Children had reported the Maori babies werefive times more likely to be taken off their parents than Pakeha ones.
There was a lot of noise about that from some leading Maori personages.
I don’t believe Maori babies are taken from their mothers simply because they’re Maori – which is what Maori personages seem to imply. Thus victimhood.
However ham-fisted the child welfare officials might be, it does seem that they worry
about the dangers Maori parents seem to put their children into. Presumably that’s why they act.
I am not a great fan of children being taken from their parents unless their lives and wellbeing is endangered.
Also during the week, it passed almost unnoticed that the little Maori boy in Hawke’s Bay who was beaten badly has been released from hospital into the care of a grandmother.
The family are still a whanau of silence about who beat him.
It also passed in passing the week before that that the young mother at the centre of the drama at Hawke’s Bay Hospital last year visits her baby daily at its grandmother’s.
She doesn’t have full-time care of her own child.

I remember when

One of the things that Black Lives Matter has taught us is that many blacks are not admirers of the movement.
It has made us aware the desire, of many of them, to rise above the dependency culture that is a danger for US blacks.
Among the interesting points that have arisen is that African and Caribbean born US citizens consider those born in the States to be lazy. The question is whether helping them leads to it being needed. They lose the expectancy that they will succeed by their own efforts.
Another is the awareness that if a statement is made often enough it becomes a fact, so no figures need to be supplied to prove it. This is very much the case with the police – if 60% of the crime is by blacks, then it is likely 60% of the people questioned will be black.

The only reason that blind, naive protester can protest is because of men like Churchill.       Brett there is an element of truth to this as the USSR had an overwhelming men and material advantage by 1943….
      
      However….. if Britian had folded in 1940 then the Soviets would have had serious problems as the entire German war machine could gave been deployed to the East in 1941…..
      
      The German manufacturing and logistics base would have been secured… allowing uninterrupted production of material which proved a match for the Soviers I.e. Panther and Tiger tanks, 88mm anti tank artillery etc
      
      A lot of quality german troops would have been freed from many theatres to be thrown in out East….
      
      USSR victory one on one wouldnt have been assured at all
      
      I also note that the North Africa campaign tied up two crack panzer divisions for years w/ more vital equipment committed when Operation Torch was exectued deploying US troops in North Africa
      
      It is overly simplistic to say the USSR won the war and Britian was irrelevant.

    The Americans did most of the heavy lifting in the west. RAF was useful (night bombing) but UK ground forces were not all that prominent after D-Day. And most of the UK war materiel came from the USA ….

      The Americans building Liberty ships quicker than U-boats could sink them, was a critical factor however.
      
      On the Russian front, American trucks were a key part of Red Army mobility, and some American aircraft, such as the Aircobra, were used by the Russians.
      
      It’s hard not to see American industrial might as the biggest factor in Allied strength in World War 2.
      
      A Quora post lists US supplies to Russia in WW2:
      
      – 14,795 planes.
      – 12,000 armoured vehicles (tanks, armoured personnel carriers).
      – 427,284 cars [jeeps?].
      – 1977 locomotives.
      – 35,170 motorcycles.

        Key factors in the battle of the Atlantic were ASDIC and millimeter radar. Made in the USA. The escort carrier was a US development. Liberators were the only aircraft that had the range to close the gap ….
        
        Not to denigrate the British effort, but if they had been left on their own …. and if they had had to keep paying for US product after 1941 … That’s when they more or less ran out of dosh.
        
        Anyway it was a long time ago. Boris is a huge fan of Winston (wrote a fawning book about him) and the statue is boarded up so it won’t be trashed.

        Not to denigrate the American contribution, as the USA was indisputably the arsenal of democracy, without whose wealth, mineral, agricultural and industrial output Britain could not have continued the war, nor the USSR sustained its mobile offensives, it’s worth noting that mostly British (plus Canadian, French, Polish) warships defended/supported the D-Day landings, the asdic and cavity magnetrons used in the battle of the Atlantic were British designs/developments, the escort carriers built in the US were largely developments suggested by the British based on experience with HMS Audacity, and the tactics used in Atlantic convoys were developed by the British navy and intelligence services.

The world of Jacinda and Sleaze Galloway is very odd.

On Wednesday, we had the US America’s Cup interests pressuring/threatening NZ about taking the competition away from NZ. This all the while most of the of the world is still in lockdown. Then during the course of questions she was asked about the visas. Her response was it was a difficult matter and being considered. 24 hours later, there was news the visas had been issued.

Then Mrs HK and I were in Albany this morning, we see advertising posters for the Famous Moscow Circus., to be staged from North Harbour Stadium from 2nd July. Given we’ve be told “abslouedly, with relentless determination to eradicate Covid-19 and still keeping our borders shut”. So my questions are, when did our borders get opened to Russian performers arrive here (given Russia is still very much in the grips of Covid-19)?, have they done any form of quarantine? What other performers have raised here recently?

Given we’ve had Clark tell us things are getting worse overseas, what the hell is going on at our borders?

    In support of your comment, a large assortment of vehicles and trailers bearing the ‘Great Moscow Circus’ logos are currently parked-up in a secure location in the Waikato, having arrived there shortly-after the ‘Lockdown’ was decreed. Presumably they are being the subjects of a maintenance and storage regime prior to resuming touring later in the year.

If what comes out of the mouth reflects what goes on in the ‘Heart’, then Mr Muller has just made a massive Freudian Slip and confirmed what many of us have long suspected; that, at heart, he is a NINO (National In Name Only) and that his sympathies are more inclined towards his supposed enemies, than to those who would support him.

Says it all really and is an interesting example of how to completely destroy your political standing, and reveal your real viewpoint in only five words…

I wonder how long he’ll last in his present postion ( and who might replace him)?

Interesting article on Stuff today about the Police using the Proceeds of Crime legislation to go after the assets of a businessman who was prosecuted by Worksafe after a death at his business. Obviously not what we were told the law was for, but well within the meaning of the legislation as written.

More interesting is the point made by the author that if you have failed to pay your GST or PAYE in full then then the Police could potentially come after your assets. They don’t need a conviction. I suspect that you wouldn’t even have to be in liquidation to be liable.

Personally I think it is legislation that is far too broad, but then I would, wouldn’t I? But for those of you who might own a business in financial trouble, is it possible that the cops may come after you, too?
