    I guess it depends on what you are up ticking or downticking for.
    
    I use the function as a method to indicate comments I strongly agree or disagree with. In which case I will tick neither for the majority of posts and just those that I feel strongly about.
    
    Some posters may regularly get up/down ticked by me because they reguarly express opinions I agree/disagree with however I don’t purposefully set out to target a specific poster one way or the other.

This is one of the most outrageous cases of injustice. This lowlife captured almost 40,000 photos of people without their permission or knowledge.

Judge refuses to convict because…

“offending was “an isolated incident”

What the judge views as isolated (just hasn’t been caught before??), I see as persistent and planned predatory behaviour. Isolated means 1 photo or video.

“Judge Bennett outlined the man’s “extended career” in court”

The judge was literally drooling over the defendant’s great career.

“”It is submitted that (the man) began suffering from erectile dysfunction, which exacerbated his sense of inadequacy,” said Judge Bennett.”

How does this mitigate anything? I wasn’t aware that the accepted cure for erectile dysfunction is to get your rocks off by using hidden cameras to spy on people in toilets!

“”The sale of the family home would be a great stressor on the marriage and (he) is concerned it would be the breaking point in the relationship with his wife,” ”

Yet spying on other woman is OK with the wife?

“It is inevitable that there will be some negative consequences which will flow from a conviction,” said Judge Bennett.”

So what! Do the crime, do the time! This judge is just fawning all over this lowlife!

“She said the man was “extremely remorseful” and had taken significant steps towards rehabilitation including 73 sessions with a psychotherapist”

I’m sure all crim’s are sorry about being caught.

“The court heard from a solicitor who specialised in employment law who said that if the man was convicted, it was likely he would lose his job and he would “suffer reputational damage so that your career would be in tatters””

Rightly so, who’d want to work with a man who films you in the toilets. There are plenty of others who’d love his job that don’t spy on women in toilets! He should still lose his job because what he did was reprehensible beyond belief. A judges opinion does not erase the offending and victims rights!

Then, the government department promoted this man!! Knowing he plants spycams in toilets to spy on colleagues/clients? Unbelievable.

Judges decision is appalling and disgusting. All about the defendant, not the victims. Sounds like the judge wants to help the man out with his erectile dysfunction, can’t do that in jail I suppose.

    The story is a sad indictment on our justice system. Not only that, but it also provides a very interesting interpretation on the concept how a prolonged episode of such activity can equal it “being an isolated incident” and not worthy of a more severe penalty.

  The problem is for these people who are obsessed about race, and by the way it is a religion for some people in the absence of Christianity. The problem is that they cannot find enough racist incidents for the supply of outrage that they have.
  
  Recently we find a black NASCAR driver named Bubba Wallace who went to his garage and found a noose hanging there. Predictably there was shock and outrage of messages of support all over the Internet. Sadly for Bubba the facts don’t match the narrative. Here is a photo of the actual noose in the garage that he was assigned to. Which has been there since 2019, long before he was assigned the garage. You decide whether this was a racist incident or not?

  It is even worse when you get to New Zealand. Please outline the actual racist incidents where Maori people have been attacked and treated in a racist manner by white people?   And so they obsess about the trivial. They ban Don Brash from Massey University when he was due to speak about his time as leader of the National party. That’s the problem. The actual amount of racism in New Zealand cannot support the existential rage of the social justice warriors. Maybe they are just angry people??

    Scott, it certainly seems that there are some people out there who are just constantly ANGRY about … well, something. They seem to go out of their way to find SOMETHING to get all righteously indignant and angry about.
    
    I think these people just spend way too much time thinking about things, and reading hidden meanings into things where, really, there are none.
    
    Eskimo Pies, Uncle Ben’s rice, Coco Pops, even the game of chess FFS. All supposedly racist. And yet, I really don’t think the vast majority of people think about it at all when they look at these things – which, I suppose, is where the angry virtue-signalling SJWs would immediately announce, “AH-HA! That’s the POINT! You’re not meant to think about it, these things are burrowing into your subconscious and reinforcing negative stereotypes without you even realising it.”
    
    I think many of them are just one step away from being full-on conspiracy theorists.

Royalties probably still come his way for the use of his name. David Clark of course is the Minister of Health who was SO essential to our fight against a global HEALTH pandemic the PM sent him home to Dunedin for lockdown, so she and Robertson could front-foot things. Clark is the Health Minister who is the lowest ranked Minister in Cabinet, because he broke the lockdown rules he himself signed off as Minister. Clark is the Health Minister who has presided over vaccination shortages, PPE shortages and has lied about sewage in the walls of Middlemore Hospital. And he’s the Health Minister who, when things went sour, threw the Director-General of Health under the bus.

Jacinda Ardern had the chance to sack Clark in April, but either couldn’t or wouldn’t. She also had a brief window yesterday to sack him, but that window has closed, and she is stuck with him, for better or worse. That’s the best news a resurgent National opposition could have.

In the meantime, a new word has entered the lexicon – Clark. It means roughly the same as a certain four-lettered word starting with C, and could be used thus:

“My boss threw me under the bus in front of the whole team today. What an absolute Clark he is”

  I heard Clark’s attempts at damage control late yesterday afternoon – that he (Clark) is in fact responsible, that AB is a fine fellow and how close their relationship is etc etc etc.
  
  Does he not realise that makes him look even more of a cock? If all he said yesterday is true, then why didn’t he say that in the first place?
  
  Well we know why. Someone has made a major misjudgment. Either Clark, but I think this unlikely, or his comms team or even other senior players or MPs in the party. They misjudged that the right stance to take on the border bungles was to castigate AB publicly and to repeatedly label it as an operational matter that Clark is not responsible for.
  
  Clearly that misjudged stance went down with the NZ public like a cup of cold sick (as should have been easily foreseen).-
  
  Having now seen the barn burning Clark and Ardern are now running round trying to dampen the flames.
  
  Well I’m sorry, for me this is just another example of the lack of integrity and experience present in Clark. DPF went through all his mistakes, omissions and errors yesterday so I won’t repeat them.
  
  I’m starting to think that David Clark doesn’t actually want the job. He certainly is not acting as though he does.

    Last night, I finally got around to watching Clark being grilled by Jack Tame on Q&A on Monday. What a train wreck of an interview.
    
    Clark kept repeating his talking points, and grinning at the camera. He came across as totally out of touch and arrogant, and ready to blame everyone but him for the situation we are in. I’ve never had a high opinion of Clark; in opposition, he was little more than a slogan repeater, and not much has changed. The PM has backed him, so she must now wear the consequences.

  When you adopt words into a language then they become part of the new language to be pronounced and used as the new language speakers choose.
  
  When English adopted French words it changed them: beef, pork, Paris etc.
  
  When isiZulu adopted English words: foloko (fork) etc it changed them.
  
  When Maori adopted English words it changed them: pirihimana (policemen) etc
  
  And when English adopted Maori words it can change them too.

      Accents are in many ways just a variant on word mangling to fit into the new language/usage.
      
      Sometimes this is because words do not fit easily into the sound structures of the new language. For example in isiZulu there is no “r” sound so this often gets substituted with “l”, hence “foloko” (fork) or fenstele (window, from the Dutch “venster”).
      
      Then bits get hacked off or added to words to make them fit in with grammatical structures. (eg. a noun that sounds like a verb in the new language will get mangled to fit into the new language, or pluralisation gets changed). Hence we end up with kumaras which is a non-Maori word (since I’m betting the Maori pluralisation of kumara isn’t just adding an s).

    Is a mere transliteration a change?
    A real change occurs in the re-use of Maori in English: frequently the grammar is not recognised.
    
    Another bad situation occurs when Maori is borrowed for posters by govt agencies etc. and pidginised. The sentences are frequently English in form and the grammatical particles and extensions omitted. The presentation is neither Maori nor English but farcical and disrespectful. Maori is also not one language in NZ. Tribal variants need recognition too.

    Over 80% of people who get infected are asymptomatic and don’t even know they got it.
    
    Of those that know, most only have flu like symptoms.
    
    Of the very few that actually end up in hospital, almost all have comorbidities and were already severely unhealthy.
    
    Of the very, very few that die most were going to die of other causes within a few months anyway.
    
    Even in the countries with the worst stats, less than 1 per thousand people are dying. That’s a teeny tiny number.

        Did you read the article you quote? He does not say they’d do a massive lock down. He said they’d do something in between.
        
        When less than 0.1% of people die and most of those are frail sick people then it is pointless putting in too much effort to “save” them if you can’t “save” them from their other diseases.
        
        I’ve used the analogy before, and it is the best I have: Doing a lockdown for CV19 is like only looking for red cars when you cross the road. What’s the point? The blue, black and white cars will still get you.

    rekon its already been through our family anyway when a close mate travelled through heathrow and singapore early feb. he fell very ill a few days after his return then my wife and 1 of our kid got very sick (worst ive seen the wife) I felt off like I thought I was about to get flu but just sweated bad for a few days and body ache.

      That sounds about right- your experience and mine are about the same. It’s likely to be the cV-19 because of its prevalence at that time. As for antibody testing, just wait until the government tells you that you can’t have one for two reasons:
      1) There is no proof that antibodies mean you are immune ( which is bollocks for two reasons, the first being that to prove that, someone will have to be proved to have been infected twice, and the second being that if they don’t, there’s no point in developing a vaccine, which relies on the creation of antobodies to work)
      2) To do so would give you an advantage over those people who have not had it.

Jacinda Ardern told a United Nation’s Climate Summit “We are going to plant One Billion Trees, and 150 million are already in the ground”.
And at the time MPI website information said “since the one Billion Trees programme was announced, 149,399,000 trees were planted. So quite close to Ardern’s 150 million.

However the same graphic indicated 24.68 million trees were directly Government (Shane Jones) funded. The rest were Forestry planted trees.

But Forestry has a 95% replant rate (as recorded in a Cabinet paper) so their share of the total trees planted, 124.72 million, suggests they felled 131.28 million mature trees elsewhere in their forests.

This means the net trees total for the two year period was 18.12 million, actually cutting 6.56 million off Shane’s 24.68 million, when you consider it the way they should in the policy of 1,800 new Police recruits, but fail to deduct Police retiring, and those leaving the force for other reasons.
Government counts the trees Forestry plants, but does not take into account those Forestry cuts down. Simple as that

It does seem appropriate to mention this in view of the Auckland light rail failure and Kiwibuild, and of course the police –

  The best advice if you do something “dumb” that gets you into minor legal trouble is to not seek name suppression and plead guilty at the first opportunity.

One observation about the omni-shambles that the mandatory quarantine is turning out to be. It seems that a number of people have provided fake contact phone number details and can’t be contacted for follow-up by MoH. Saint Ashley said that MoH has to now send sleuths (“finders”) out to track them down. These people must now be watching the news with trepidation and will get themselves to Covid testing centre if they have the slightest of sniffles.

Its a shame that such false information also makes productive research infeasible. The 1169 confirmed cases of Covid as of yesterday would provide a very useful cohort for followup. One would have thought that some university, or those so called experts e.g. Floozie, Hendy, Baker et al, spouting their reckons on TV at this time, start doing something useful and real and commence a research project to evaluate the trajectory of infection progression for all the people who contracted the virus and recovered or died.

Wouldn’t analysis of this information throw up useful information that could assist in combating infection and refine treatment methods? It could also give us insights into the long-term impacts of the infection . Given the expected duration of this infection is years rather than months, this exercise must be continually updated.

If these research outputs were placed into public domain, the population itself will be armed with real information based on which they can manage their own personal actions responses.

Why are the government and the scientific missing the opportunity of doing something tangible?

  Fake phone numbers or disposable SIM cards…. Plenty of people on this site have been against tracking. It shows that once out of isolation, or heaven forbid we get community transmission, there ain’t no Gold Standard tracing. And this was an essential part of getting out of lockdown.
  
  The big question is really whether community transmission happens pre election or not. With winter here odds are it will. Then both parties will have to announce their exit strategy as the status quo can’t continue.

Newsroom article by Marc Daalder writes an article calling out a man named James as “far right” and calls out their employer. James main problem seems to be that he has links to Action Zealandia a group which does seem to hold strong opinions on immigrants and nationalism. However – is the term far right accurate or warranted. Daalder says James is responsible for a photo which shows Action Zealandia members with blurred out faces “standing in front of a statue of Michael Joseph Savage with a New Zealand flag.” Clue number one: Michael Joseph Savage is a hero of the left. Second, Daalder’s earlier Newroom article, “Action Zealandia member planned terror cell” says that Action Zealandia put up . “photos of Action Zealandia members vandalising a National Party electorate office used by Jian Yang and Paul Goldsmith “. And then repeated racist slurs about Jian Yang and Goldsmith. So again, the group really don’t like the National Party which is on the right of NZ politics. Instead they appear to identify with the left. So my issue is the use of the word far right to describe nationalists with racist or anti immigration views. These groups are just as likely to identify with the left. And by using the word right to describe racism or anti immigration is innacurate. As it wasn’t the right who ran on a less immigration platform. And using the word right smears all those who support economic policies that support a thriving market economy.

  It is absurd to even try to fit the political spectrum onto a single left/centre/right axis.
  
  But I can see why people do it: this over simplifes things so that they can be used to polarise people.
  It is far harder to polarise in a multi-dimensional space.
  
  A favourite of people that seem to like this oversimplified picture and identify as left is that they will push everything they dislike into the right and the more they dislike it the further right it goes.
  
  So mega socialists like Stalin, CCP and the German socailists end up being “far right”.

  Two points to consider:
  1) America isn’t doing nearly as badly as many other places in terms of the only stat that matters: deaths per million.
  2) Most of USA is not doing badly at all. Places like Greater New York are really skewing the stats. NYC is about 20x as bad as the rest of USA. Most health decisions are made at the state level (eg. putting sick people into rest homes with healthy people). What’s happening in NY is Cuomo’s America, not Trump’s America.

So, the big news today is that everyone is celebrating because Australia (and NZ) got the rights to host the Women’s Football World Cup in 2023.

My question is – will the pandemic be over by then? Will it be safe to have other countries travelling here? And thousands of people? I somehow doubt it.

You could say, well, it’s three years away, but one of the organizers on the radio today said that 3 years wasn’t nearly enough time to prepare and we’d have to start planning for it now.

Personally I think it’s all a bit premature.

        At the time he was at L&S he would have been one of the folks on some sort of scheme whereby folks with “special needs” were offered placements in the Public Service.
        
        Basically, he delivered mail/messages between different floors. After delivering the material he would wait at the door until he was thanked and told that was all.
        
        He was probably only at L&S for a matter of weeks.
        
        He showed no recognition of folks who greeted him on the street once he started walking the streets (a year or 2 after being at L&S).

  Probably not. Auckland is fast turning into a basket case. Bloody cycle lanes everywhere and with the growth of lanes there is a growth of arrogant behaviour from cyclists. It is really hard to negotiate suburban streets too since people are squeezing too many houses onto small sections and not providing adequate parking. And the same models also said that there would still be 80,000 deaths if we did what we did (ie. mega lockdown) due to them all happening in the second wave.

The models all assume a 400day (yes, over a year) control period. Clearly he’s not from the real world.

Essentially it says, because (in the writer’s opinion) Trump has mishandled the response to Covid-19, he is directly responsible for people’s deaths.

There is no way to remove Trump’s culpability in this. If your feeble effort saves two lives when an earnest, robust, science-driven effort would have saved four, are you not responsible for the two deaths?

If we go back in recent history (and to my shame, I am not very good at history, so hopefully others can correct me if necessary), I would think that every US president has made decisions that have in some way resulted in people dying, and practically all of these decisions could be argued for and against. In just one example that I’m aware of (and I’m sure there are many, many more that others can suggest), Obama expanded the drone strike program begun by the Bush administration, which were criticised for resulting in civilian casualties and called “deeply troubling” by a UN special investigator on extrajudicial/summary/arbitrary executions.

In other words, obviously the UN special investigator thought there was a better way of achieving the aims. So we can say, “There is no way to remove Obama’s culpability in this. If had followed better advice, lives would have been saved. Therefore, he is responsible for the deaths of the civilians.

Can we call Obama a killer?

Closer to home, we all know there has been a lot of criticism over the extent of the lockdown. And it has had very real consequences.

In May, the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, said that during the 6 weeks that breast screening has been on hold, 200 women who have no idea they’ve got breast cancer have missed out on the mammogram that would have found it. And in addition, another 200 women will have found a breast lump while they’ve been locked down at home that will turn out to be cancer, and they’ll be afraid of going to see the doctor. Early detection is a huge factor in breast cancer survival; therefore can we reasonably say that, had Jacinda Ardern followed the recommendations that were saying “Don’t lock down quite so hard”, these women would have had their breast cancers detected in a reasonable time period? If some of them die due to the delay in diagnosis, can that be laid at Jacinda’s feet?

There have been stories of men with prostate cancer who have had surgeries cancelled because “resources were prioritised in response to Covid-19.” And three weeks ago the Cancer Society warned that 400 people could die from cancer if New Zealand does not act quickly to catch up on cancer diagnostics missed during the lockdown. Do we lay those 400 deaths at Jacinda’s feet?

I will not write the words, but could we, in light of this, substitute “Ardern” for “Trump” in the headline?

  Maybe the writer, if he wasn’t so ignorant, might like to accuse people like Cuomo and de Blasio, who directly caused thousands of elderly people in the city and state to die by enforcing a rule that Covid-19 patients had to be kept in elder care facilities.
  
  And they even had that special US Navy ship in NYC to take ill patients that wasn’t used. And unless Trump had invoked the war powers act he cannot, under US law, take such decisions away from Governors and Mayors.
  
  Just shows how warped the sense of responsibility has become, the left blames everyone else for their own failings and the media mindlessly repeats it.

Iranian authorities are investigating a large explosion just east of the capital, Tehran, near a military base thought to have played a role in the country’s past nuclear testing activities.

Videos and pictures posted on social media that were picked up by local news outlets showed a bright light flaring out across the sky over the city early on Friday, followed by a large plume of smoke. Witnesses said the blast came from the direction of Parchin, a major military site.

Thank you to the New Zealand Police. This case worried me, to try and kidnap a child is disgusting.

A person has been arrested after a man allegedly tried to grab a child’s hand in South Auckland while they walked to school with their parent.

The child was walking on Hall Ave in Favona about 9.15am yesterday, police said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Gollan said yesterday that the unknown man then fled the scene on foot.

The child was not harmed.

Hardly a day goes by without this so-called “government” throwing millions of $$ at some organisation or company or person.
Ostensibly to preserve jobs but in reality to buy votes.
They have no other plans, just print/borrow money and chuck it where they think they can get some approval.
Can any of you who read this blog tell me just ONE productive and logical thing that this “government” has done since March for the permanent recovery of NZ’s economy ?
Does A.J.Hackett really deserve $10m ?
Do the businessmen and investors in Queenstown really need another $85m to prop up their income?
Do any of the current “government” have financial interests in Hackett or Queenstown?
