We now know Arderns regularly repeated catch phrases , such as Test Test Test, Hard and early etc , were the product of a PR company and $16million of taxpayers money.
Whats the bet that Arderns “they are us” was another taxpayer funded PR companies work.

  Let’s see what changes to the Nats, if anything, with Mathew Hooten out of the picture.
  
  Everyone is familiar with the effectiveness of PR in politics in NZ, or in some cases the lack thereof. Colenso came up with the Dancing Cossacks ad, which probably changed the whole direction of NZs way of life.
  On the other hand some politicians have damaged themselves with ham fisted amateur PR that only appealed to the already converted.
  I’ll bet no PR company told Metiria Turei to disclose her welfare fraud, or Garett Morgan to talk about lipstick on a pig.
  No PR company would ever advocate raising taxes!

    Very true MCos, but equally so, no PR company will advise a PM to tell the truth, when all the soundbite catchphrases pumped out to the NZ public have been nothing but smoke and mirrors to in order to hide the truth.
    
    Based on recent events, it is almost a certainty that “the team of 5mill” did not eliminate or eradicate COVID in NZ.
    
    Why do I say this:
    1. The 2 people who have travelled abroad and have tested positive, with no clear indication of how they contracted the virus. In the second case, the media on Saturday were suggesting the person had been carrying the virus since March (how many people will that person have come in contact with?);
    2. The efforts with “deep cleaning” and pop-up testing authorities are going to because of where the first case travelled to in NZ;
    3. Late last week, there were a series of media stories imploring people to get tested, but at the same time people are not getting tested, and previous testing facilities are being closed;
    4. For the first time in weeks, TVNZ ran COVID-19 govt adds, reminding us to use the tracing app, keep a diary and get tested – why if we have eradicated/eliminated Covid?;
    5. This morning, with the news from Melbourne, JA is using language that indicated she wasn’t telling us all, instead the message was “surveillance testing”;
    6. At 1pm no news conference, just a statement. 2 new cases, only one of which was a recent arrival, both in managed isolation. From which, is it a fair question to ask, did the other new case test positive because of the Day 3 or 12 test, or were they tested independently under other circumstances (ie they were already here, and didn’t travel to NZ); and
    7. In recent weeks, it has been noticeable that not all new case numbers announced, have not been recent arrivals to NZ, but “they are all in managed isolation”.
    
    So, simple question, when are the team of 5 million going to be told the truth about the extent of community transmission in New Zealand?
    
    Or
    
    Do we have to wait until a new Rosewood cluster inexplicably appears?
    
    I know I am sounding boring about this, but a significant number of Kiwis have sacrificed a great deal for the 5million. So, Bloomfield and Ardern, you owe it to all the team of 5 million to tell the truth today, about the current status of Covid19 in NZ, and stop hiding behind soundbites and press conferences that provide half truths!

The damning interview with retiring National MP Sarah Dowie was compulsory viewing.
Both me and my partner came away thinking JLR was completely loco.

  I like the idea that when JLR did not get the message of “things are over”, that it may have been Sarah Dowie who dropped him in it, by her perhaps releasing Simon’s expenses, which makes much more sense than JLR doing it. Simon was only collateral. See? – that would be a little more circumlocomotive.

  Thanks for the reference, just watched both interviews and read the articles. While the Newsroom investigation appears to be thorough, what also emerged is the large part the media played in this.
  
  When Ross had his “mental break-down” and referenced the text which included the statement that he deserved to die, media portrayed it as a text he had only just received, when in fact it was sent 2 months earlier. Dowie had formally apologised and Ross told her he had moved on, but he later used the text to try and play the victim and, no doubt, cause her further distress by making out he was going to step in front of a train.
  
  Tellingly, one of the many other women that Ross abused and manipulated said this: “But she also says inaccurate reporting of the issue has made her distrust much of what the media publishes and that journalists have a responsibility to get facts right, particularly when it involves manipulators and abusers.”
  
  Who knew the media could be such despicable scum? They didn’t make any errors when “not getting facts right”, they knew exactly what they were doing and have a lot to answer for.

    We see evidence everyday on here where posters have accepted the “presentation” of the media as fact.
    
    I deduce that that acceptance without challenge is what seperates us from those on the left. They buy into ardern’s slogans and the media’s representations as “real” when they are clearly not in most cases.

  I have some knowledge. These hubs provide an alternative online option for learning outside of the formal class room training. Hence the platform represents a threat to teachers/unions control. Also some good selected teachers get paid more to be involved and to be innovative and do better than the others. Unions can’t have that. Getting rid of Charter schools was also an example of the same union attitude.
  
  Perry Rush is a politician and unionist first who got himself a school principal’s role (Island Bay from memory) before he got into his current political role. Teachers unions will tear down anything that threatens their stranglehold.
  
  One would have thought with Covid having pushed a lot of learning online, the lesson learned would have been to bolster any pathways to online learning.

      Having some experience in this field, I can confirm >90% of classroom trained teachers have very few transferable skills to move to effective online learning. The few that do get very little support. Least from their colleagues who get very threatened.

In simple terms, Boochani LIED on his visa application about his intentions for the visit and would have personally signed a declaration. He should be deported like anyone else who did that would be. Consideration of refugee status does not even arise in this situation.

  Not one of the many articles I’ve read on this gentlemen ask the basic questions of:
  
  1. Exactly what was the ‘persecution’ by the Iranian government that this person was subject to and why was this action allegedly taken against him?
  
  2. Why didn’t he stay and ‘fight’ this persecution, rather than run away?
  
  3. Why did he choose to pay people-smugglers too take him oceans-away (to Australia) rather than slip in to a safe and nearby nation?
  
  4. Why did he choose Aussie? Was it that, under Labor, it was seen as an easy touch?
  
  5. Why did he choose not to stay in PNG? He is free from Iranian ‘persecution’ and he could live a very good life there – why is that not a refuge?
  
  Until we get answers to these questions I believe we are, legitimately, entitled to view his story with suspicion and that he is but a country-shopper.
  
  It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if down the track it was proven that this guy was just trying to escape drug debts or hoodlums and/or just fancied a new life in the free and wealthy West – as millions of others have done in recent years.

    Australia don’t want this guy. In 5 years he will be eligible to become a New Zealand citizen and could normally travel to Australia. I am sure Australia will be on to this. They will change the law so that any New Zealand citizens that were once detained on Manus Island (or similiar facilities) will never set foot in Australia.
    
    Of course letting this guy stay in New Zealand just erodes further the relationship with Australia.

        I don’t think it threatens visa free entry. It threatens the Trans Tasman Travel Agreement which allows New Zealanders to live and work in Australia.
        
        That agreement only works if Australia and New Zealand are not too divergent economically and socially. That divergence is on full display with the current Government. I mean Scomo is polite in public but can you imagine the conversations he has with his colleagues after another visit from the New Zealand PM? He would get on well with Judith.

    Boochani had also been offered resettlement in the US. He was not therefore a refugee for NZ purposes as his removal from New Zealand would not have resulted in refoulement, which is UN Convention-speak for the forcible return of a refugee to a country where he is liable to persecution. There is a legally illiterate article by someone called Lana Hart in today’s Stuff which asserts we were obliged to take him in because refugee status is “declarative”. Bollocks. All claims for asylum must be assessed against well established criteria. This was a political deal.

      Ian, like many, you fall into the trap assuming that inflation is profit.
      
      Buying a house and making a “profit” without improvement is a very rare event and a false assumption.
      
      Every house we have bought for profit has been updated and improved for the next purchaser and the “profit” included in our tax declaration, along with all the costs and expenses in generating that profit.
      
      I am quite sure there are those that fail to do that but they are well into the minority and the IRD is a lot smarter than you think.

        Ian, people are seldom prosecuted by the IRD as they cough up. A 400% penalty tax threat creates a fearsome focus of attention.
        
        We have dealt with numerous investors like ourselves. One of our rules of engagement is that clients must adhere to the tax laws and we’re not short of clients.
        
        Someone who moves into a home and renovates then moves on is hardly a tax problem for NZ. The time taken usually exceeds any taxation requirement.

  4 adult males, 1 adult female and one child aged six
  Some days after the operation, the Provincial Governor of Baghlan Province, Governor Mojid, received a delegation of villagers who claimed that “a very big operation had occurred with helicopters…that some landed and the operation was firing at civilians and left. The locals claimed that six civilians were killed, 4 adult males, 1 adult female and one child aged six. Additionally there were two adult females being treated in a local hospital for wounds. [4]
  
  So now, after the expenditure of $7 million, there are three versions of the most crucial issue – who were the six civilians who were actually killed. It is vital, if compensation was to be considered, but perhaps less relevant if Ardern is just going to profoundly apologise for it ever having happened
  
  The Inquiry – did find a child was killed during Operation Burnham in Afghanistan in 2010, but the operation that led to her death was justified under international law. Four other people were also killed, but the government inquiry could not determine if they were civilians or insurgents. [5]
  
  Are deaths to be compensated for, if a $7 million government inquiry could not determine if they were civilians or insurgents?

      WINZ has isolated the “most at risk” and discovered they were from a surprisingly small amount of families, when compared to the hundreds of thousands on benefits, and little extra input was required to make a large impact.
      
      Under his auspices maori teenage pregnancy fell for the first time ever, a situation that labour has managed to reverse surprisingly quickly.
      
      I have seen the positive results of targetted welfare and I am quite sure Mrs English may have had a finger in that particular pie.

What the heck? She is the PM not a three year old.
It all seems like a deliberate attempt to stop us talking about Labours *cough* achievements, or the economy.

So many questions. The media outlet in question was Magic Talk, which is part of the Mediaworks stable, which also runs Newshub. Many would argue that Newshub has, in recent months, been strongly favourable towards Labour and its partners, and openly hostile towards National. It was Newshub which led its 6pm news last week with the stunning “revelation” that a 14-year-old William Wood once posted something stupid on social media.

I suspect the Electoral Commission might be in for a busy day today…

Why am I not surprised as it is the Maori Seats that in an MMP enviornment that was recommended by the Royal Commission into the whys and wheres of MMP . In fact their need was said to be surplus .

    With NZ First and Greens gone, we in Maoridom now have a great opportunity to bring a strong Maori party into the parliament and control the government. So vote for Maori Party candidates in Maori seats and in places like Northland, East Coast, Bay of Plenty/Rotorua and so on. That will give us up to seven MPs from Maori Electorate and 3-5 from Maori dominant general electorates.

  I can understand why the Maori seats first instituted in the 19th century.
  
  They are way past their use by date. Each Maori electorate has far fewer constituents than the general roll seats.
  
  Secondly the number of Maori MPs sitting in General roll seats now is higher than their % of the general population. This annoys me. The media report this statement by the PM as a headline revelation. I think we all worked out a month ago that the “trans tasman bubble” was off the agenda. Instead of stating the obvious how about some scenario analysis of an exit plan? Or is this it? We stay like this?

  We could let people from Australia fly over here unhindered for a spot of skiing anytime we want, of course. No doubt a certain percentage of the population would think that’s a great idea, but they’d have the slopes to themselves along with the Aussie visitors.

    Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay
    
    No quarantine on arrival – walk right in. You can probably travel to most of the EU also but I don’t have time to look it up.
    
    AFAIK you can also travel to the USA and Canada, although I think I would skip the USA for now.

      just read that almost 10k more left nz then arrived (18.5K depart and 9k arrive) I wonder if thats why they chose to charge quarantine for 90day or less?
      
      I know not all of them were previous returnees but 18.5k @ $3k a pop is 54mil so even 10% of them less then 90day stay chargeable is still a large sum and thats just 1 month, watch the mass exodus as nz gets flushed further down the shitter

  It is the fear of speaking out that may be skewing the polls here in NZ. The election outcome may not be as slanted to the left as the media portray.
  
  On the face of it, it would appear that an overwhelming majority of New Zealand are in love with Jacinda. After the election as the NZ economy tanks, it might be hard to find anyone who admits to voting for her.
  
  I was talking to a young Uni Student taking business courses a few days ago. He and his mates have been enjoying reading Jordan Peterson. According to him, there is a lot of interest in the likes of Jordan Peterson, sparked by concerns about the recent radical shift towards socialism. There is hope. Newshubs latest article, “Jacinda promises to help family of 6 stuck in cramped emergency accommodation.” The woman, who is a 28 year old recovering drug addict with 4 kids and one on the way, had visited 30 rental properties but was unable to find accomodation she said in her interview with Duncan Garner last week.

But in the facebook comments on Newshub’s original story , it was revealed that Susan and her partner had rent arrears of $16,000 and they had defaulted on their rent. See link below. Newshub completely omitted the $16000 debt from their story. It is misleading to say Jacinda is helping the family unless she is paying for it herself. Jacinda will commit taxpayers to help this woman. It is unclear who will help the landlord or the taxpayer. Newshub shame on you for not reporting the full story.

    Agree. It’s just not sustainable for her family or for NZ. I think ACT’s policy here of taking away the cash benefits and replacing them with a managed card with restrictions for people who continue to have multiple children when on a benefit. Especially considering she’s defaulted on her housing payments to the tune of $16k and now asking the taxpayer to provide the next house. Good policy should have stopped this. And would have had her working for families money going directly to her housing provider and utilities.

Seeing the young cystic fibrosis sufferer on TV this morning and hearing of the enormous cost of her necessary drugs brings me again to questioning the costs of Pike River re-entry. We have apparently millions to spend on this open ended quest – to achieve what? Do we seriously think there’s going to be a definitive “what happened” answer? There are of course many other people for whom a few million from Pharmac would be an actual life saver.

In what looks to be a plug for NZ to take Muslim refugees from Yemen, Stuff includes the line:

Unicef New Zealand is a registered charity. In its last filed result, for 2019, it reported income of $13.9 million down from $30.26 million in 2018.

If it Stuff wants to run Unicef advertising it surely should be as advertising, not as purported independent news. This is especially so while Stuff Limited is on the take from taxpayers.

Should taxes be used to plant “news” in our media?

Now, for my second brilliant thought of the day…..

We are currently having a wee holiday in Mt Maunganui. If Tauranga is the end result of unplanned immigration then I’m agin it. So, we need migrants to actually do the work as all kiwis are now well off millionaires and far too highly educated to pump gas, serve pies and sammies and own Bottle’Os so we allow immigration but cannibalalise the American system whereby they make a significant donation to the economy to offset the cost of the extra infrastructure. A client of mine had to invest $US500,000 into buying an operating business in Texas with a minimum of 3 staff, from memory, and had to retain that status quo for a set period of time.

Now we don’t need another 500 bathroom suppliers or importers of pumps but we do need infrastructure and then who cares what they do for a crust. Each immigrant “invests” in a few kilometers of roading or meters of bridging etc as an entry into NZ. No investment, no immigrant.

She does not like motorists and has no understanding of the issue.

This one example highlights why it is important that JAG and the Greens are not returned to Parliament at the election.

  This is an important part of the article because it shows she has no idea what these roads need to make them safe. We have an intersection here that is a major crash point. It was meant to be redeveloped to make it safer, the money was there to do it. These assholes got in and the upgrade was cancelled and instead there is a flashing sign “stop ahead”. Morons, people are still dying there because of them. Anyway, this is an an important stupid statement from the idiot
