If this is so inevitable then why in the hell did they bother to “eliminate”?

Why the hell are we pissing around with closed borders and expensive forced isolation?

Why continue to smash tourism and the economy?

typical backwards govt done all that “hard work”, blew billions and ruined thousands of lives and jobs while knowing all along that its pointless and all for nothing.

They achieved their goal tho and have enslaved the next couple of generations to repay the giant debt created, thanks jacinda great job at creating an equal outcome of misery for all in the near future.

It’s indeed a miracle community transmission hasn’t apparently yet been detected given the shonky quarantine operation they’re running.       I think that they are terrified that there WILL be an outbreak somewhere. If it happens before the election, it will make then a laughing stock – and after?
      They know that their credibility will sink without trace and because of all the self congratulation public anger will be so great that any lockdowns will be largely ignored.
      Many of us are still living in level 2, minimising our social contacts, and keeping social distances as much as possible when out in public.

One day kiwis will become sick of being scared all the time by this government but by then I fear Labour would have already won the election.   I take issue with your claim about smashing tourism. Tourism is stuffed every way you look at it. If we opened up completely we might get a short spike in numbers given our current covid free status. Not much though, as travellers still have to transit and can’t get travel insurance for covid. Once we have more or less widespread infection – nobody is coming here. Even going a full on herd immunity open slather won’t bring back tourists in meaningful numbers. This is an ex parrot.

  They know the script demands that they re-introduce lock-downs again (and no doubt again and again) with instruction to also wear masks as we transition yet again up the steps of lockdown.

    Friends bough an old character cottage for their retirement, and in the meantime rent it out at a modest rent to a young family who are trying to save for their own home. They were informed by the property managers that some of the windows needed attention so they got a quote from a window – fixing person. $10,800 ! which included ‘replacing putty on external windows where needed’. PMs suggested double-glazing as this is going to be essential for private homes in the future. They are not impressed – there are something like 185 panes –

    The bigger plan is the massive flood of private rentals on the market will be snapped up for Social Housing or if too run down by first time home buyers. The blooming social housing waiting list/ homelessness will then be the justification to raise tax (again) and socialise much more housing. Covid is the fastest way to achieve socialism… Never let this excellent crisis go to waste.

        Yes they do, last point below…from Community law…
        The government pays Housing NZ or community housing providers (eg church, iwi etc) to be a landlord. The role of these landlords includes:
        
        -matching prospective tenants to particular properties
        -preparing and managing tenancy agreements
        -starting and ending tenancies
        -charging and collecting rent
        -maintaining the properties and doing repairs
        -transferring tenants between properties
        -buying, selling and developing properties.
        
        So they have been out bidding first time owners and investors for quite some time. And no one says anything about this driving up the price.

    Has been this way for a while since the price of houses took off (driven by what people could borrow) and rental yields tanked (driven by the rent people could afford to pay).

        That was exactly my point. Build new or buy existing – the sums are pretty much the same.
        
        If no new private sector rentals are being built then shortages can only get worse. This drives rent increases that happen faster than wage increases. More people will apply for social housing …..
        
        The RT Act is a bit of a sideshow in all of this. You believe that it will cause a decrease in the supply of private sector rentals. Does that mean when JC and co repeal it, you believe the supply of these rentals will increase?

      The electorates in New Zealand with large Labour majorities are more likely than not to be low SES areas with high levels of private rentals.

Judith Collins was discussing her political party’s current position for the Māori language when asked if she could count to 10. Collins demurred, saying: “No, I’m not particularly good at that.”
She added: “I don’t do gotcha politics or gotcha media.”

A certain amount has been reported on what media believes this says of Judith Collins.

Nothing, as far as I can see, is reported on what it says of any party’s current position for the Māori language – on the effectiveness of annual spending on te reo to familiarise an above-average intelligent person of Collins’ intellect with the most basic element of the Maori language: counting 1 to 10.

Supporting te reo Māori and communities: $208mil (operating) $2mil (capital)
Budget 2019 also provides $14mil of additional support for Te Mangai Paho to produce Māori programming and content. – A well-meaning Budget 2019 offers almost half a billion for Māori

Other sources indicate $ 200 – 600 million is spent each year on te reo, without anyone apparently able to say exactly – in English, and much less likely in Maori – how much finance is spent, or on what.

And to what effect?
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern managed the challenge, although her pronunciation was of the number nine as “ina” rather than “iwa” might have confused some listeners.
No, she didn’t manage the challenge.
“Ina” is simply not ‘iwi” – ‘ina” apparently means “when” or “while”, not “nine”

  Puketifinau what it is all coming too. Maori lingo is of almost no use in a modern anglicised society. It’s very confusing because half or more are loan words with funny spelling and kids will have to relearn them. Pronouns too are a problem: they have more than any SJW trying to sort a trans-cis convention.
  
  Te Reo is best left to the Marae where elders have speaking rights about genealogies. The pidginised public version now appearing is an abomination–neither English nor Maori. That will lead to a complete breakdown in time to Te Reo.

  Maori is an outdated language, and belongs in the past as an uncivilised tribal language. It has little value in the modern civilised world because it does not embrace modern civilised concepts.
  
  The Maori language does not have concepts for rationality concepts, morals, modern day ethics, modern science, inductive thinking and so on.
  
  Al the trimmings and trappings of modern society, healthcare, food, technology, motor cars, air travel, all came out of progress after society became civilised, with a justice system, and where individual rights were protected.
  
  Forcing people to speak Maori, is allowing the Maori race to regress back to an uncivilised tribal mode.
  
  It would be like the Federation insisting Planet Earth speak Klingon, and take on Klingon values where the currency of the day is battle and death to your enemies.
  
  Part of becoming more civilised is adopting more civilised language and customs, where violence, force, are not the currency of the day. That is what growth and progress is all about. You cannot move into the 22nd Century if you are racing at full speed back to 18th Century bad habits.

Yesterday I argued for the death penalty for the Christchurch mosque murderer. I was roundly lambasted by Garrett and co. Apparently my position is not even Christian according to them?
Now it is certainly Christian to believe in the death penalty. Remember that Christian nations such as New Zealand had the death penalty many years. It only fell out of favour through the intervention of Labour governments, many of whom I would suggest would not classify themselves as Christian.

Certainly there is plenty of support for capital punishment in the old Testament –.Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.” And there are plenty of offences that warrant capital punishment in the law that God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai.

In the New Testament there is Romans 13:1-7 Paul calls his readers to submit to the authority of civil government, reminding them that “if you do wrong, be afraid, for he [the authority] does not bear the sword for nothing.” In its ultimate use, the word sword implies execution.

Regarding the mosque murderer should he be executed? Generally not as the law would have to be changed post the crime. However there is precedent where convicted murderer Gary Gilmore of Utah asked for the capital punishment sentence to be carried out even though the death penalty had languished in the United States and no one had been actually executed for years. At his own request he was taken out and shot.

If the mosque murderer requested capital punishment as opposed to life imprisonment until he dies, that would be a fair request and in my opinion should be granted by the courts. If people are too squeamish about hanging or firing squad then I’m sure a lethal injection can be administered. Then justice would be done and we would also be spared 50 or 60 years of taxpayers funding his imprisonment. We would also be spared the spectacle of reporters in years to come wanting to interview the man and him having the chance to speak on national media.

I totally expect that, even if he is in jail until he is an old man, some people will be petitioning on his behalf for him to be released on compassionate grounds. That will totally happen.

Maybe not now, but in 10 years or 20 years if they had the opportunity every media outlet would fall over themselves to have the opportunity to interview this guy.     Urban – the Bible is the foundation of the Western civilisation that you enjoy. So you should treat the word of God with a lot more respect than you do.
    
    The old Testament law was particular to the people of Israel. Although we can discern general principles particularly with the 10 Commandments, many of the examples you cite are examples of the law that have been superseded in the new covenant instituted by Jesus.
    
    But to take one of your examples – not eating shellfish was part of the dietary requirements for the Jews that enabled them to stand out and be distinct from the people around them. These laws were superseded by the new covenant as outlined by God to Peter in Acts chapter 10.
    
    Regarding homosexuality it is outlined in the Bible as a sin in both the old Testament and the new Testament.

      1. There was some cast-iron evidence that this god you speak of actually existed and,
      
      2. That there was similarly robust evidence that the words attributed to the god were actually spoken or transmitted by him/her.
      
      As Christianity, and every other religion known to humankind, has spectacularly failed to provide such evidence I’m afraid you still have all your work ahead of you – and I, like many others, will continue to regard these assertions of ‘the word of god’ as the superstitious ramblings of ignorant, illiterate bronze-age Middle-Eastern peasants.
      
      And so should you.

        This is why claims of disproportionate, lethal police violence against black Americans, driven by systemic racism, remain unproven even when supported by well publicised deaths of indisputably innocent African-Americans. Despite extensive research, the data do not adequately support, or even contradict these claims.
        
        If you want to cite anecdotes of changes in fortune and health after prayer, you need to pre-define the outcomes, collect all the prayers and all the outcomes, including the failures, and compare the results with normal changes in health/fortune without prayer.
        
        The most thorough study I’m aware of, and I don’t have references, found that unprayed-for hospital patients had marginally better outcomes than prayed-for patients.
        
        As for proof of your god, you could start by telling us how many amputees you know have regrown limbs after prayer.

Lots of Winston’s retirees have made sacrifices throughout their lives to be able to have rentals that supplement the barely-there living afforded by Peters’ protected much vaunted Government Super.

The law puts them at the mercy of dodgy tenants who will play the rules of three warnings in 90 days to ensure they cannot be evicted for their antisocial behaviour. These retirees will probably sell their properties and put money into banks when interest rates are likely to remain low but the possibility of their nest eggs value being eaten away by inflation caused by the money printing and massive debt planned by the CoL.

Winston and NZ First are digging their own graves.

  The new Residential Tenancies Act legislation has some major fundamental flaws:
  
  1. It’s predicated on the assumption that renters are all good sorts, who just need to have more control of their home environment – sadly there are many who are not, and the systems set up mean there is a lack of clear notification of who these people are… eg. if you are a landlord wanting to ensure a notice to terminate is to happen – ie that the tenants actually leave, what do you say to prospective landlords (or their agents) asking for a referral? If you really want them out, what are you going to say?
  
  2. Any action of the Tenancy Tribunal is not kept online for more than 3 years, and a bad renter can change their name, or other method to hide their true identity. Any good renter then gets the same status as a “rotten egg”.
  
  3. Now “bidding” is forbidden, then landlords can now simply reverse the process, and run a “dutch auction” – they can start with advertising a higher than normal price, and come down as needed. The flow on effect will be rapid increases in rents brought about by this law change.
  
  4. Same with the new rule regarding missed payment – the rents will simply rise to allow for this.
  
  What a bad piece of legislation, with so many unintended consequences afforded. If I were a renter I would be angry, as it will force rents up, and not allow differentiation between myself and bad renters.

    At the worst the COL will deceive itself and continue in power. They haven’t enough nous to even run a bath although they can blindly get the Reserve Bank to pay for whatever they desire.
    
    However retribution awaits. I expect this next twelve months to be probably the most difficult to manage of any in NZ ‘s history. We don’t live in isolation and the rest of the world are just beginning or awaiting that to recommence their COVID-19 new lives. None will have an automatic V-shaped miraculous recovery as all will have to make adjustments. That will severely impact trade, relationships, exports and exchange rates. The USA dollar may even lose its reserve currency status.
    
    From Ardern’s shock-horror reaction when presented with the unexpected the COL will find themselves overwhelmed. No company Board would appoint, the way Winston did, such people to be managers. With sycophants in the support roles they are in their own sea of follies. I expect that they will then have to confront their heebie-jeebies and pass the job over to the more capable team.

A tale of Two good for nothing Retrobates in the last twelve hours . Yes NZ “toilet paper” Herald ran a Poll probably under instructions of their Political Puppet control freak masters, with the figures blaming women for wanting our borders kept closed ,who knows for how long .
Then their was the other renegade Retrobate named Peters. Many hoping he might see how his decision to anoint Labour/ Greens in 2017 was a disaster for NZ .
Not to be last night in Parliament two critical and far reaching legislation . Peters Party masquerading as NZ First enjoined with Control Freaks Ardern Labour/ far left Lunatic Green Party to virtually destroy the Residential Rental Property Market. In fact throwing mum and dad investors into a state of angst and anger or what is commonly known as under the bus . Even worse he once more confirmed after railing against it,he proved he was all shit and piss when he also voted for NZs who might have wanted to leave NZ to see relatives or friends overseas and on their returned to be socked a minimum of $3100 .
Also even worse betrayal if that is possible seems not every Superannuand knows this . Prior to the 2017 Election . Then National Government voted for Superannuands to get an increase in their pension by April 2018 .
Peters at the time voted it for it . Yet when he decided to get on the gravy train bandwagon with you know who . Guess what he voted for the approved payout for Pensioners he once voted earlier with National for the payment to be cancelled . The payment was for extra 52 weeks a year year in year out. Not the token trade off at present known as the Winter Heating handout.
Yes “NO” chance of an Epiphany by Peters and looking at his once more betrayal of voters last night in Parliament and no second chance by voters to forgive and forget his betrayal when they vote on 19 09 2020.

“As well, Health Minister Chris Hipkins tells the House in Question Time that tomorrow he will tell Kiwis the conditions in which they will be expected to wear masks in the event of the country moving back into Level Two.

“It doesn’t add up. Why announce this now when there are few cases? What do these guys know that they are not telling us?

“New Zealanders have already sacrificed a lot during this pandemic. The least they deserve is more honest, transparent treatment.”

There’s an element of frustration and of suspicion in Brownlee’s question, which I suspect is shared by many thousands of Kiwis. This week we’ve seen the Covid advertisements back on TV with their dire warnings, and the Director-General of Health giving a pretty gloomy prognosis as to a second wave of the coronavirus.

Parliament dissolves today, so we are back to the country being run with no scrutiny of the Executive. Am I being cynical in thinking that the PM and her government have us, and especially the more naive among us, exactly where they want us in the run-up to the election?

  What I suspect is that by ramping up community tests from next to none they fear that Covid 19 is out there and suddenly a trickle becomes a wave once widespread testing begins. If this is the case standard political logic is a hard lock down trumps protection of the economy.

  Of all the 100s of thousands of community based testing we have done in the past (almost) 100 days we have been told that they have found NOT A SINGLE PERSON RETURNING POSITIVE FOR COVID.
  
  There are these things called false positives and apparently we haven’t had even a single one of them ? Must be really an accurate PCR test and excellent testing process quality.
  
  Or Jacinda, Megan, Chris and Ashley have been lying to us. Directly or by omission.
  
  Of course you don’t expect the media to apply their knowledge and come with a simple question to check this at Ashley’s daily expositions. $50M took care of that.

  can’t understand how the 1 metre deep 2m wide trench is so dangerous they need to spend ratepayers money on it, fencing it off.
  A few metres away there is a 30 m wide 3-5 m deep ditch that is permanently filled with water , but is safe to leave unfenced. It even has a narrow track to walk and ride on the top of the steep bank adjacent to the river.

Further Pike River Recovery Success.
The increasing success of the Pike River Recovery Team has resulted in one of two loaders being successfully removed from the mine. This follows the retrieval of two robots, lost in previous recovery attempts, so it’s obviously continuing success.
It, the loader, will be forensically examined by the police but they seem very confident that it is a loader!

Does anyone like me think that ii is a bit rich for the Government to force fuel company’s to publish the wholesale price for fuel when these same hypocrites promised to publish the agreement between Labour and NZ First when forming the Government, only to break that promise very soon after they became the Government.
I find despicable that they can force other to produce details in which they think will reduce the price of fuel then load taxes on the same item and can’t even be honest with NZ’ers about what they gave NZ First in their quest to led the Government.

        The only reason the Trump campaign wasn’t done for foreign collision is that Roger Stone lied under oath, perverted the course of justice (and got his sentence commuted as a reward), and Trump most likely lied by omission in his written responses via lawyers.

    The number of cases is largely irrelevant. There have been 700,000 deaths where Covid-19 has been identified or suspected as being at least present at the time of death. The population of the world is 7.8 billion. Do the maths. A one in 10,000 chance of death. Most of those deaths have been in people with on average 2.9 pre-existing conditions and with a median age of about 80 (at least in the OECD). For this the world has shut down its economy which could lead to at least 2,000,000 deaths from TB, HIV and malaria, which could have been avoided. Add in late diagnoses of cancer, heart conditions et al. and the collateral damage far outweighs any benefits.

    The big problem with the Swedish approach is that the reason for that approach is to avoid economic devastation caused by lockdowns. Except a report from a month ago showed Sweden’s economic position is no better or worse than its neighbours who did lockdown. Which means in a country with twice the population of Nee Zealand 6000 people died for nothing. The other glaring issue is they are still miles away from herd immunity. I started off admiring the Swedish too, but it seems to have failed to me.

      Their big mistake was not securing the vulnerable. I see their PM has apologised for that.

In April – Jacinda lashed out at people who suggested that restrictions should be eased as it mostly affects the elderly. “Firstly, try telling that to someone who has lost a loved one. In fact that’s probably the only thing I’ll say to that.”” With coronavirus we have essentially said we won’t take a targeted approach and no expense will be spared.

But yesterday I visited my 80 year old neighbour who paid for her own mammogram as Nz only funds mammograms for women until age 70 despite them being at high risk of breast cancer.

Actual bodycam footage from one of the officers involved in the death of George Floyd. Puts things in a bit more context.

Published Monday by The Daily Mail after it was leaked to the outlet, bodycam footage from Officers Thomas Lane, 37, and Alex Kueng, 26, shows the officers approaching Floyd’s vehicle after responding to a call that he was allegedly using counterfeit money at Cup Foods.

Floyd is immediately distressed, agitated, and uncooperative with the officers, who demand he open his door and show them his hands. When he does not immediately show both hands, Lane pulls a handgun and points it at Floyd’s head. When Floyd places his hands on his head, Lane holsters the weapon. In the car with Floyd is his ex, Shawanda Hill, and a friend, Maurice Hall.

When Lane orders Floyd out of his car, Floyd says, “Okay, Mr. Officer, please don’t shoot me. Please man.” Lane assures him he won’t shoot him, but Floyd begins sobbing and telling them how he “just lost my mom,” who died two years ago. Floyd continues to behave erratically as officers tell him to stop resisting arrest.

Lane then asks passengers Hill and Hall, “Why’s he being all squirrelly and not showing us his hands and just being all weird like that?” To which Hill responds that Floyd had been shot before and was scared by the gun aimed at him.

“Well I get that,” Lane says. “But still, when officers say: ‘Get out of the car…’ Is he drunk? Is he on something?” Lane asks Hill, who answers, “No, he’s got a thing going on, about the police,” Hill says, pointing to her head and gesturing to indicate that Floyd has mental issues.

The footage then depicts Floyd yelling out in pain and struggling to walk across the street toward the police vehicle, for which reason the officer asks him if he is under the influence of a substance. Floyd also refuses to get inside of the vehicle because of claustrophobia. “Please man,” he says. “Don’t leave me by myself man, please. I’m just claustrophobic.” At one point he says he would rather lie on the ground.

“Well you’re still going in the car,” says Lane, who promises to stay with him and leave the windows open.

“Y’all, I am going to die in here,” Floyd says. “I’m going to die, man. I just had COVID, man. I don’t want to go back to that.”

Lane goes over to the other side of the car to pull Floyd into it. Floyd begins yelling and repeatedly claiming he “can’t breathe.” After a struggle between Floyd and several officers, Floyd ends up on the ground beside the vehicle as Officer Derek Chauvin, 44, places his knee on his neck. Chauvin would go on to hold his knee on Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes, as shown in widely publicized video that led to violent protests nationwide.

I have some Sanding masks will they do as it seems that you need to wear them for show rather than for a medical purpose.
I’m 71 and it looks like they have realised, if we take his advice, people of my age are not Labour voters so with a bit of ‘Luck’ we won’t be around come election day . At $7 a mask will they be putting up my pension by $98 a fnite.

  Who would have thought growing plants with all that photosynthesis going on turning CO2 into carbohydrates would create GHG?
  
  Well all processes are lossy – including photosynthesis. Photosynthesis needs a huge amount of light energy to do its job. Indoors that light energy comes from electricity which comes from burning gas or coal. Each step along the way is inefficient so, likely it’s going to be less than 1% efficient end to end.
  
  If we gave greenies too much sway they’d probably think you could grow biofuels indoors.

In an interview with John Banks on Magic Talk on Thursday Key said the Government is “fundamentally distrustful” of the private sector and Ardern lacks passion for the economy.

“I don’t know whether the economy is her big thing really,” he said.

“I don’t know if she’s terribly interested in all that stuff.”
