So where is our great leader. Seems to have gone into hibernation. No appearances at the daily covid release. Is that because she doesn’t need to campaign anymore? A little birdie suggested she is visting an island somewhere in the Pacific. If that is indeed the case it’s hardly setting a good example. But then again it wouldn’t look good. If it is true will she go into MIQ.

  Very unlikely, why would she go into MIQ if she knows it is not necessary. No personal actions, and the management protocols of MIQ of this govt over Covid-19 indicate they consider the threat in NZ serious.
  
  The virus propagation in enclosed spaces such as supermarkets is many times as potent as that in an open air vege stall. So they banned open air vege stalls and enforced use of supermarkets.

I hesitate to give oxygen to the Indigenous Pacific Uprising, though they have had some media attention recently, but it is worth understanding the group’s POV in the light of no more 3 strikes and the new government’s probable prison policies. The group’s views are extreme but no doubt will be considered as part of policy development and may inform some aspects.

The below link is to their recent press release and this quote is representative. Noticeably there is no mention of victims of actual crime, or what exactly ‘mass incarceration’ means.

We have a system of mass incarceration, a wide variety of laws and institutional practices ranging from racial profiling to biased sentencing policies. Māori are trapped in a virtual and very literal cage, where we live in a closed circuit of perpetual marginality.

I read a recent RNZ news item in which a leading Islamic academic and head honcho in a nationwide Islamic Council Tahir Nawaz was calling for Islam to be a compulsory subject in New Zealand schools. This is ostensibly to counteract any religious extremism that might lead to radicalisation and terrorism. Seems this chappie holds some sort of fellowship at the Maori University in Wellington Te Herenga Waka. Expect a great deal more of this sort of thing over the next 3 years.

  The Muslim community is small and forceful. Why should they have privileges not available to others? Teaching Christianity in schools is not allowed in State Schools–the schools can be notionally suspended for that purpose.

    It seems, Kev, that Tahir Nawaz thinks this major restructuring of the New Zealand school curriculum is to cater for their own Islamic children and students, because their present education allows what France’s Macron is currently challenged with, to the extent of “domestic separatism” – so it supposedly is not to initially benefit the general New Zealand students’ understanding of Islam.
    
    In countries like the United Kingdom and across Europe, although a large number of Muslims follow the traditional Islamic way of life, there is concern around the number of Muslims becoming radicalised in their religion.
    
    To be sure, the main cause for the rise in Muslim extremism overseas is the brainwashing and radicalisation of Muslims with inaccurate Islamic teachings and ideologies.
    
    The best result is achieved when a proper balance is struck in imparting Islamic education alongside Kiwi cultural values to Muslim children during a normal school period. For this to happen, a group or panel of Islamic educators should be brought under one roof to develop a proper and balanced Islamic curriculum with input from government and faith groups.
    
    This Islamic curriculum should be taught in intermediate and secondary schools. New Zealand’s homegrown Muslim children should consider themselves Kiwis and should develop their faith alongside the Kiwi culture. It is vital the Government take the lead in ensuring the development of a ‘wholesome’ Islamic syllabus. In order to create our own homegrown Kiwi Islamic scholars in the future, the education system should be revamped and allow Muslim students and others to offer Islamic studies at the NCEA level.

  I think that “calling for Islam to be a compulsory subject in New Zealand schools” will radicalise more people than simply leaving Islam in the homes of the apparently ungrateful immigrants who practice it. As was inevitable, these are the early signs of the friction that always results between divergent cultures. Globalisation and the replacement of the Western nation’s founding stock with multicultural policies are both sources of radicalisation, as was demonstrated in Christchurch. But people refuse to connect the dots.

    My understanding of what is happening in the UK is that it is second generation (those actually born in the UK) young people who are becoming radicalised and that it is happening in the Mosques. It’s not their parents who are the problem but the Leaders in the Mosques. So, I doubt teaching it in schools will make any difference to whether they become radicalised or not. It’s the Mosques and what goes on in them that we have to be worried about.

  Not sure what makes you think so, it’s not that damning of NZ’s response. As I read it, it is more that they praise Taiwan for already being prepared to deal with an incident with a virus like Covid19 (unlike most countries). In contrast, NZ’s plans were more reactive (as in most countries) because our existing plans (in place over some years) were more suited to an influenza outbreak.

    That’s a very limited reading..
    
    The Paper clearly identifies a number of factors that operated in Taiwan’s favour:
    1. Taiwan has a stand-alone Centre for Disease Control
    2. As you mentioned… Taiwan had a more robust Pandemic plan than NZ’s Influenza Plan
    3. Taiwan had ready availability of masks…and people wear them
    4. Taiwan has rapid and extensive contact tracing in place
    5.Taiwan instigated border management procedures on December 31st 2019.
    
    Taiwan went early, used precision methods and did not need to put its nation into lockdown.

      Not really, Maggy. To me, the article concentrates on how well prepared Taiwan was for this incident compared to nearly any other country. Why do you think the authors chose to compare Taiwan and NZ (as opposed to the UK, USA, or Australia)? Because they thought NZ’s response was so abysmal? Or, it demonstrates the advantages of being well-prepared even over a country that responded reactively, and relatively successfully, to the threat?

      One thing I’d disagree with is the masks, we have pretty well conclusive scientific evidence that mask wearing has at best a minimal impact on the spread of a respiratory virus.
      
      But Taiwan (and Singapore) both used hand held forehead scanning thermometers that were rapidly and widely deployed. Using these they could very rapidly identify those with a fever, and they are those most likely with the virus, with symptoms, and in an infectious state. I don’t think NZ ever used temperature monitoring but relied on self reported symptoms, though I could be wrong and they were used in same places.

    I think it is admirable to look at how the best are doing it and look to improve systems and preparedness for the next one.
    
    But at the same time, it is a bit tall poppy to say how bad we’ve got it. When you’ve got one of the best responses in the world, it sure is good to be in the top 5 or so countries, when compared to the hundred or so that have done a much worse job then us, including all of our main trading partners.
    
    Could things be done better – of course and lets learn and improve, but at the same time. We are in a very luckily place right now and the envy of many in the world.
    
    Also re a review – when you may only be half way through this thing, is it possible to have a meaningful review?

  Because yet again the MSM (Newsroom in this case) plays down the incompetence of Labour (and the leadership i.e. PM), by using weasel words such as the Cabinet had been misunderstanding weekly briefings from the MoH (that were indicating that testing of border-facing staff was in the process of being implemented but was NOT fully rolled out).
  
  Now one would think that if the DG of Health was also having regular (as in weekly or perhaps 2/3/4 times a week during peak covid events) meetings with Cabinet, that they would, even eventually, get to understand where the MoH was coming from.
  
  Instead we are told that the Cabinet misunderstood … I call BS on that and would like to see the MSM drill down deeper on this, as it looks like to me that Cabinet was being deliberately disingenuous in order to allow them to evade responsibility.

Nomad scum that was raised by the gang was given a reduced sentence.

That might sound like compassion and fairness, but it is a terrible way to try apply a corrective force to a person.

A person who has lived their life in a gang will have been beaten, clipped around the ear hole etc etc. He is used to being treated harshly. He needs a harsh sentence to get the message.

In comparison, a person who has been raised in a loving environment only needs a frown from a judge or a cop to get the message.

But somehow society feels that giving a person who is used to a tough life a proper sentence is not fair. This might pass the cuddle test, but it is ineffective as a corrective force.

Define Maori
Maori make up 50% of the prison population.
Oranga Tamariki removals of children are 56% Maori plus another 7% Maori/Pacific Islander.
We never mention that many Maori prisoners, etc, are perhaps 25, 50, 60% European.
Should we say the percentage of Maori prisoners is perhaps 36% and add 20% to the European prisoner total.
The word Maori becomes a catch-all phrase that increases their percentages in many of the worst statistics.
I feel no responsibility when a European commits a crime but can Maori do the same?

Just a couple of points about how bad the Green Party really is.

Here’s Golriz Gharaman:

Let’s backtrack a few years..

The Greens & Labour both opposed the Trans-Pacific Partnership. They marched in the streets together. They said it would destroy our economy.

Then Trump was elected President and pulled the US out of TPP. Chris Liddell works for Trump. Liddell now wants to run the Organisation for Economic Development and Co-ordination.

In 2018, Labour signed the replacement CPTPP. The Greens were furious and also protested this:

“Green MP Golriz Ghahraman addressed a protest rally of about 100 at Parliament today saying that the Government was indulging in “spin” to sell their switch in position.

“It has been devastating to watch as the coalition parties have done such a complete turnaround, and have used what has essentially been spin to justify their turnaround on what is essentially the exact same agreement.”

So while Ms Gharaman was opposed to the government she is now working with signing a multi-lateral trade deal, she somehow thinks Mr Liddell’s support for a President who pulled out of the very same deal represents something terrible and “values opposed to New Zealand”.

This won’t come as a surprise to anyone who sees the far left for what they are, a rabble of virtue-signalling hypocrites.

Just for laughs, here’s a short list of reasons why Chris Liddell is a “terrible person”:

As a result of the report MPI stated that changes will include-
*Maritime inspection of livestock carriers by Maritime NZ.
*Restrict stocking densities to match the new Australian standards.
*Increase voyage reporting, including daily veterinary reports.
*Increase minimum fodder requirements to cover unplanned delays on voyage.
Livestock vessels operate according to international rules and certification, but NZ-based checks by Maritime NZ should provide extra vessel safeguards.
Largely a vindication of the industry.

I remember when

I see that in 2005 Randall Clinton Waho appealed his conviction for assaulting Mark Graham.
He was convicted for the assault of Jane Ryder, Robert Walker and Mark Graham.
During an altercation Graham was hit on head with baseball bat and suffered serious injuries.
Graham was in a coma for 12 days, suffered depressed skull fracture and has paralysis of one arm and grave speech difficulties.
Waho was not the principal offender.

  However in the latest incident of guns v. police I don’t believe it would have made any difference . The police car was being driven by a lone occupant and how would she have been been able to get her sidearm out (if she had one) and return fire to a shotgun?

    I use to think that giving police guns wouldn’t make a difference because in pretty much every shooting of police, the cop is caught by surprise and would never have had the chance to defend themselves anyway.
    
    I’m less sure about this now. It is precisely because the police are not armed that the crims even attempt to gun them down. If crims knew they could end up in a gun fight with police and get shot, they wouldn’t even attempt it. They attempt it now because they know the odds are in their favour.
    
    Crims don’t even think to shoot armed cops.

      It depends on what you mean by a “case”.
      
      CV19 is the first time that there has been widespread asymptomatic testing for any virus/disease and we, as a species, just don’t know how to cope with the extra information because we have nothing to compare with.
      
      In the past all cases were symptomatic. No symptoms meant no testing meant not a case.
      
      Even with all this extra testing, CV19 is pathetically low compared with other pandemics. Spanish Flu had 300x as many infections (all seriously symptomatic). Asian flu and Hong Kong flu were much higher too.
      
      With the Spanish flu approx 30% of the world’s population showed symptoms. QUite likely 99% would have tested positive with CV19-level testing.
      
      Testing might sound scientific, but what does it really tell us?

After the Hunter Biden scandal there’s been a trend on Google for people searching “can I change my vote?” And wouldn’t you know it, in a lot of states they can!

It turns out that people in several states actually can change their vote, which is news to me. I did not know this. It’s probably news to most people that you can change your vote. In fact, several states including, New York, and the battleground states of Michigan, Minnesota, Washington, and Wisconsin allow you to change your vote. There might be more states that do that I’m not aware of. This includes, by the way, if you voted by mail or if you voted in early in-person voting.

There’s a New York Post article about the spike in searches for changing your vote. It spells out how you can change your vote in each of those states. In New York, for example, you just vote in person which will negate your previous vote by mail. Did you know that? Now, I don’t know what percentage of people in New York want to change their vote, but you never know. But all you’ve gotta do in New York is show up and vote on Election Day, and that will cancel — now, what if it doesn’t? What if it just adds your vote twice? I don’t know.

  So that’s about 180,000 over the age of 15.

I have just been listening to Red Radio in the car and a very earnest member of the fun-police from the Ministry of Health is preaching about the menaces of Halloween. Her top tip is for all householders to download the Covid QR code, print it off and stick it on their front door. The kids or their minders can then scan all households visited and we can be tracked down in the event of an outbreak.

I see the problem ! Tucker Carlson and others should have just said that four anonymous sources who “were in a position to know about this” said that Joe was heavily involved in shady business deals using his son and other family as frontmen. Then promise that more would come, and then all would be believed !

After all, that was absolutely enough to have Batman, IC5000, Fat Tony and indeed our host here conclude that Trump did indeed say that dead servicemen were “suckers and losers” and that he refused to travel to Bellevue Wood cemetery because it was raining and it would mess up his hair.

Sauce for the goose and all that; if that’s good enough for an accusation on Trump it should be the same for one on Joe.

Actually having named witnesses prepared to say things publicly, plus documentary evidence is all so last century !

in two weeks. It may be sooner. The UK is out
of EU military missions after Dec 31st. So, in
theory, no need to use the same kit, and
procedures. It might be a no trade deal
Brexit. No more extensions, or transition
periods. There’s likely to be a drop in imports
from the EU. There will be an inflation spike perhaps.
A drop in GDP, and exports is expected by Allianz
Experts. Maybe there will be more self sufficiency.
