      Yes.
      The clue to this answer is the knowledge that the family were granted refugee status. Therefore, they must have been:
      – outside of their home country
      – facing a real chance of being harmed if returned to that country
      – the risk of harm was for reasons of who they are, or what they believe.
      – needing and deserving protection in NZ

        Was it political? Gender-based? Racial? Religious (are they Baha’is, for example)?
        
        As citizens we are surely entitled to have civil servants share with us reasons for granting refugee status to this family.

        I don’t know that reasons are ever routinely released for the decisions on refugee status. There is a database of over 1000 decision from the Immigration and Protection Tribunal. Rather unsurprisingly, the names of individuals are not published.
        Perhaps you could advocate for a law change so that you can see the personal details of all applicants for refugee status, so that you can make up your mind on who is deserving of protection.
        But I think we can draw some conclusions:
        1. NZ has a process to grant refugee status to asylum seekers, in accordance with international conventions.
        2. Not everyone applying for asylum in NZ is approved.
        3. Speculation about the worthiness of a specific individual’s refugee status is probably motivated by dislike of the person or their publicly expressed opinions.

        The tribunal rules on appeals against decisions. When did it start deciding on everyone who applies for political asylum or legal entry to New Zealand?
        
        Why shouldn’t a government release individual details of grants of asylum?
        
        Openness would help guard against any bias or corruption in the relevant Government departments.

Latest Poll Judith Collins plummets in the vote and it is all over her voicing her opinion on He Puapua and what she believes will happen over these papers.
Now you would have to think that if this goes to Parliament and everyone sees Transparency the argument would and could be put to bed, but no Labour and tier Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern don’t want to talk about it.
Well if this was any other Government and had made as many mistakes that Labour have made they would have been under pressure to Govern but not this because of the majority they have after the last Election.
When you think of what has happened under their watch with Ministers and the prime Minister herslf with staff members having sexual assaults covered up , a senior Minister taking his lover on a trip across the World when paid to do Government business, a $350.000 payout from the Speaker on a statement he could not prove against a civil servant when calling him a racist, and generally lie and decieve with many of the problems that have been pointed out about this Labour Government and their incompetence.
Many National Voters have deserted the Party because of the popularity of Jacinda Mania and because she’s nice in their words but a lot have deserted because of Peter Goodfellow and the path he has taken the National Party on and believe he has to much say, so interal problems dont help. I believe if they don’t come together to address internal problems and become less decisive and have a clean out of the deadwood in the top echelon National is heading for disaster with many more years in opposition.

      Was down there for a kids swim meet this weekend. The place we stayed wasn’t a MSD site and was nice however you could see which ones weren’t.
      
      It’s sad – as a city Rotorua has a lot going for it however the motels for homeless have tipped it over the edge. Can’t see international tourists coming back and enjoying their stay.
      
      The CBD reflects most mid-range cities in NZ – vacancy and decay.

        How you think that in their current state they present themselves to the electorate as a government in waiting i would love to know?
        
        They have some major issues and complete dysfunction internally, with a total lack of trust. This is very concerning because whilst they teeter in the rocks, Labour is getting away with anything they want.
        
        Sometimes tough things need to be said, if you want things to change and this might be challenging for you to accept. However if you are happy with their performance on and since the election then by all means continue to pretend everything is perfect. Just dont expect them to be in power any time soon.

      I seemed to have touched a nerve here. Whilst i understand most of you will blindly follow the colour blue. The reality is that with the voters that actually decide who wins elections Collins is persona non-grata.
      
      However – if your dream National Party is one that competes with the ACT party for the same, shrinking piece of the pie then thats all good with me. But it will be a sad way for the National Party to go out given its proud history of being a centre-right party.

  Don’t panic. Be patient. You are falling into the same trap some did when they rolled Bridges. It is very hard to be the opposition and get traction against a popular incumbent. Just rewind back to the Key years on a left-leaning blog and you will see the same thing we are now seeing on the right. Don’t do what they did by fighting amongst yourselves. Fight the real enemy, one inch at a time; it will be a long, hard effort but there are no quick easy wins.

    Agree, EssenX. It is one thing to project the image of a great leader when you front the camera in a crisis and tell people what they want to hear. This is what Neville Chamberlain did when he waved his piece of paper declaring “peace in our time”.
    It is a far greater test of leadership to tell people what they don’t want to hear. This is what Judith must keep doing. We kiwis are trusting people and we cannot believe that our government is as evil as the current Labour one. People did not want to believe Hitler was evil either and we all know how that turned out.

    The problem is – Collins is toxic, half of the MP’s dont even trust her and she doesnt trust them. They dont share information, she keeps things like polling results and even the review of the election under lock and key.
    
    No organisation ever runs successfully like that. Whilst her and her advisors are running the show, the National party will remain on the bench. Imagine if this was a business and there was complete dysfunction between members of the leadership team. They would be cleaned out and replaced. This needs to happen.
    
    Until they can get their internal issues sorted, they will not be trusted by the public to govern again.

        Well, my friends within the building report pretty much what Isobar said above. It’s currently going through the messy phase, which will take a couple of years to sort out.
        
        I said at the time Judith was elected that we would finally get to find out the result of the much heralded Judith experiment. Many here we’re hugely confident that she would bring about NZ’s version of a Thatcher era.
        
        But political realities say otherwise. The public don’t like her and never have.
        
        The solution is to hold on until the next obvious leader appears, rather than force it before it’s ready.

      The election review was not hers to release. It was commissioned by the National Party Board, and they decided who should have access to any/all of the final report.
      
      The internal issues with the party are being sorted, and there has been a lot of interaction and goodwill between the Board and rank and file members such as myself. There will be significant change to the party’s rules as a result. Caucus discipline is a matter for caucus, the leader, deputy leader and the whips. But caucus members are well aware that there is now zero tolerance for leakers.

      I would say that a good chunk of those are the most vulnerable over 65+ and / or people with pre-existing conditions.
      
      Standardly you would think a good chunk of this group would be core National voters. But what is the party doing for them? Nothing. They are just talking straight past them.
      
      When National talks about Opening up borders and bringing in overseas workers and a big chunk of their former voter base go – well if COVID gets back in we’re in trouble. No wonder why they are voting for the other guys.
      
      I’m not saying that they shouldnt be saying these things, but National need to understand in their messaging there is a huge chunk of people who dont want COVID back and can see it is still raging around the world. National needs to do more to reassure those people and think of their needs.

        Their needs are provided for by Cindy and she will continue to look after the middle and younger people as they love money for free.
        Traditional Labourites will as always irrespective vote Labour so they don’t count.
        She has to look after those 400,000 who changed at the last election at her peril. Free social welfare, irrespective of children in poverty as they don’t vote, and Maori aspirations but money will do all that, and the love of money for their media.

      White privilege and all of the other dull and insipid labels are not based in reality, but are simply rhetorical devices used to batter their targets into accepting forced changes to their societies that run contrary to those peoples interests.
      
      In reality, “White privilege” is assigned to White people to account for the fact that we generally do the right thing and therefore make successes of ourselves and our societies. However, if the enemies of White people accepted this fact, then all of the systemic change in the world (the real goal) would be pointless, because disparities are baked into the racial cake, so to speak.

  These days polls are about creating public opinion, not reading public opinion. It is all how you phrase the questions. Since very little of the media is objective and transparent, do you really expect polls to be objective and transparent? The polls have been weighted, target audiences selected subjectively, and questions carefully worded.
  
  In addition, a large percentage of the populous are very afraid of speaking their truths for fear of being earmarked for some future re-education camp with barbwire fences, so mostly are likely to say diddly squat about what they really think.
  
  There is a lack of real ball busting leadership in the opposition that is not afraid to call out the socialist platitudes for the horseshyte it really is. Without strong leadership, the public will cower away from speaking the truth, no wanting to being martyrs. The lack of leadership is because the incumbent lot, keep labeling alternates views or dissent as hate speech or right wing extremism.
  
  It is not just Judith Collins that needs to be bold and brave, it is the public. As weak as she may appear, she is probably the only one at this point in time with enough experience and grit to face off with the enemy in the bed.

    The only way National can win is change their outlook on Politics and do what the voter wants not what the President wants , we can court China in trade deals but we must stop selling our soul to them for large donations, we must do things to prosper New Zealander’s not the Parties Politcs, and to do that we must vet our candidates to make sure they have the experience and expertise to do the job that’s need to be a MP. Make a promise to stand for New Zealander’s and when your do something that shows we need need change and don’t just say we will stick with the policies that are there now that Labour have passed and entrenched, change them because they need changing to make all equal not just a few.
    National need to rid themselves of people like Jamie Lee Ross and his type and bring respect and trust back to the Party and I believe it to start with a New President to get the ball rolling.

I remember my kids coming home from school in the 1970’s eagerly telling us that we had to stop littering the sides of the road. Harmless, helpful stuff??

No!!!! It was the beginnings of teaching morphing into indocrination. Minds were being manipulated not educated.

I also remember the Vietnam war and the anti-nuclear issues that saw the rise of socialism and communism in the universities. Up until then most of the “red” influence was in the unions. More and more universities became hotbeds of anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, anti-warfare.

Environmentalism quickly became the socialists trojan horse as the Cold War was lost. A cause that was hard to oppose. With universities turning out socialist indoctrinated teachers and journalists it was obvious where it would lead. Litter became CO2. Maths became social justice.

Kids are dumbed down. They are not in this blog arguing against separatism or climate change nonsense. They see a little TV – one eye on their phone, no newspaper, no blog, no facts, no truth.

So dont blame Judith. She has tried to right the wrongs of Key, Bolger, Finlayson et al. She cannot get her message across because she does not control the mic. Maybe it was always too up hill for her.

The fight was lost a long time ago. If you are under 50, get out. Australia maybe. If you are over 50 stay in this echo chamber and vent your spleen. You will feel better as the tide of evil rises.

  What the article doesn’t say is that the document provides measurement on what has been actioned. Clearly this is a document that already forms the backbone of Government Policy. This is an NZ equivalent scandal of Watergate proportions and much of the media are in on it.

Yesterday I saw a picture of a guy in a Gaza hospital with his baby who had sustained some sort of injury from an attack that had killed the baby’s mother & siblings.
(Some might say the story is a fabrication, but that’s beside the point)
One day the kid grows up stuck in that dump knowing what’s happened to it’s family. 50% unemployment, stateless, treated like rubbish people It isn’t going to take much provocation to go looking for revenge.

In New Zealand every medical and para medical registration body has sent letters to members effectively “gagging” the expression of ANY concerns regarding the Covid Vacine in New Zealand.

A few weeks ago over 30 GPs signed an open letter of concern regarding several issues relating to the vacine.

They are now being hunted for censorship and potentially severe consequences.

There is NO INFORMED CONSENT process for the Vacine in New Zealand…because practitioners are TERRIFIED to speak their truth and express their concerns about this medical intervention.
Even David Seymour has claimed to have read research before taking the vacine, but wouldnt say which ones he has read or what he has read.

  I would expect that GPs are too busy with their every day practices to worry too much about the vaccine.
  From what I can gather, there are a LOT of people who are in no hurry to join the queues, and not just because they have doubts about its effectiveness. They seem to think that the whole pandemic thing is a beat-up, a Cindy Bandwagon if you like, and they don’t want to join the parade.
  I’m hearing a wariness about the coming months. People are trying to work out how to survive the coming shortages, increased prices and Government interference in their lives. Vaccines have low priority.

Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson has prepared a draft Cabinet paper outlining a possible government response to the He Puapua report. [2]

If Andrew Little, as Minister of Health and Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations, has not read He Puapua, should he still be continuing to establish the Heath service changes, particularly the Maori Health Authority, in case Willie Jacksons plan to accomodate He Puapua goes beyond Little’s intentions, and the whole idea has to be looked at again, wasting all their fucking time and possibly hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in our taxes?

Yesterday I saw on Facebook a give a little page to raise money for a guy I used to work with in Bangkok.
Now back in the US he was hospitalized in a diabetic coma and was on life support, which was close to being withdrawn when he rallied.
He was discharged facing a huge medical bill and needs to get back to work, although he can barely walk.
Here in NZ we all bitch & moan about paying tax, but when the shit hits the fan at least the hospital isn’t going to add to the financial hardship.

    I also know that you get what you pay for with insurance.

    They pumped up hospital prices to reduce the insurance markups. Then, guess what? yep transferred hospital profits to their insurance company owners a dividends.
    
    and that is why the uninsured(premiums are eye watering) have huge hospital bills.
    
    If the effing gummints got out of the way with their “restrictions” life would be better for the lower income punters. Sorta like the house prices in NZ.

Judith has to go, that is certain now. It is just a case of when and for who. I think she did a good job at the election considering the hospital pass she received. But my job brings me into contact with a wide variety of people, many who are younger. Collins is regarded as someone from the past. National need to get someone who can get the votes of younger people and woman otherwise it has no chance. And by young I mean under 40’s and 50’s not teenagers. While the Maori stuff worked for Brash 20 years ago, things have changed now. People get excited about it on here, on talkback, but out in the real world – not so much. As for new leader, while its clear that Simon Bridges shouldn’t have been sacked, I dont know if he’s the answer for the future. Nicola Willis? Chris Bishop? And I dont know why Shane Reti isn’t mentioned. I heard him being grilled on RNZ the other day. He was excellent, and always is. The other problem is timing. It might be better to have Collins hang on and have the change closer to the election.

And both polls underestimated Labours landslide result in the last election ( they had National too high and Labour too low).   I’m not saying Judith is all roses and chocolates, but given the biased media with its controlled discussion boxes and the public muted for fear of retribution, things are not what they seem.
  
  At the moment being on the opposition is like being thrown into a tank of Piranhas, and been attacked from all sides. Todd Mueller thought Simon Bridges was weak, so took control of the party. After being shredded with a thousand cuts, and failing at facing off the key Piranhas, he ran for the hills
  
  To face off Piranhas you have to have very very thick skin. Bruce, please list, in order of skin thickness, the three top contenders for leading the National Party into a successful battle with the Piranhas.
  
  My view is that for positive change, it is primarily the public that need to change. One person on their own, as leader of the National party, cannot save NZ. Only the public can do that.

The Vaccines only have emergency approval, so have no substantial or formal prior Beta testing, either for the Covid-19 vaccine, or the mRNA delivery system. It would pay to let the dust settle on programming “bugs” within the mRNA vaccines.
  
  And as it happens, WHO is investigating the Seychelles, where 37% of positive Covid-19 tests are from people that have had both the Vaccinations.
  
  If you have to have the Vaccinations, it would be smart to schedule a Covid-19 test three weeks later. All may not be what it seems.

Turns out AP knew in 2014 that their building housed Hamas, even reporting that Hamas were firing rockets from the unit next door.
Turns out Israel gave all the documentation to Biden’s State Department who were satisfied with the explanation.

    The original piece in The Atlantic from 2014 doesn’t say Hamas were based in the building but that they launched rockets from right outside and then went inside to threaten the reporters not to report that it was used as a launch site, which they complied with.
    
    It (the piece) is an indictment on the overall culture of the press in the area, not just that on incident which Fox News wants to hype up.

So to summarise: these people were legitimately protesting what they believe was an illegitimate election result, were let into the building by the cops, didn’t kill anyone, were not armed and quietly left once they had taken a few selfies and after one of their number had been killed (the sole death attributable to these events) by a still unidentified individual.

Following January 6, one of the biggest federal investigations since 9/11 has only been able to come up with charges no more serious than trespassing and disorderly conduct. Some of these people are being held in solitary confinement, something murderers usually aren’t subjected to.

Now, a “9/11-style” commission will be formed, with 9/11-style outcomes: “anti-domestic terror” legislation, more mass surveillance, serious crackdowns on political dissidents, and all the rest. And some people have the gall to contrast the “land of the free” and criticise Russia, China and North Korea? Oh, please.

  I don’t know why you insist on posting such lies. Over 400 people have been charged, mostly with significant felonies that carry prison sentences between five and twenty years. Many of the charges are for assault on law enforcement officers, violent entry and disorderly conduct, theft, weapons offenses, making threats, and conspiracy. Some of the criminal indictments are still sealed.
  At the very least, it was an act of domestic terrorism. At the worst, it was an attempt to violently overthrow the democratically elected government

  I have all my old school photos from the 50s & 60s. There are a couple of notable things. The size of the classes that were just under fifty in a couple & nobody was overweight.
  Didn’t stop kids being bullied for being ‘fat’ mind you.
  The difference back then was most food was cooked from first principles by the mothers and consisted of boiled vegetables and some sort of meat & not huge portions.
  Takeaways are a killer. Didn’t exist back then except for fish n chips.
  Interestingly my daughter in law taught at a flash Auckland private girls’ school for awhile. She said the peer pressure kept all the kids from getting rotund. Plus the affluence of the parents meant they bought ready made meals from Farro not KFC.

Listening to this you can’t really see current situation as anything but evidence of truly evil behaviour at highest levels of medical institutional establishment; active campaigning by big pharma against safe, cheap and effective treatments. An interesting point they make is that legally if treatments with well established safety were available for Covid then emergency experimental vaccines would (by law) not be allowed, so maybe the effort to take-down things like ivermectin has been driven by desire to foist vaccines with very limited testing and significant safety issues (and enormous profit margins) on public.

  There is certainly a pattern. Chloroquine, Vitamin D, Ivermectin and the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine are all lower cost alternatives and have got some very bad press over the past year, compared to Pfizer and Moderna.
