Ardern says NZ wants “Quality over Speed” in UK free trade deal after Australia signs it’s own deal.
This is different rhetoric to what the Prime Minister has pushed over the last three and half years with comments just like Covd-19 where it was preached that we are at the top of the queue, so now its who knows when this deal will evenventuate especially after Australia signed their free trade deal yesterday.
Pushing and ” rushing a deal simply to get it over the line isn’t in the best interests of our export and primary producers” Ardern said, Nationals Todd Muller said the Government had been slow to act on the UK deal.
” Australia seemed to want it more, acting with more urgency and priorities closing the deal as a result they have come out on top”, he said.

  The High Commissioner from the UK to NZ was interviewed yesterday about the FTA. She said there were differences between the Aust situation and the NZ one. Whilst Ardern may be calling for a “high Quality” FTA Laura Clarke outlined the areas of differences as:
  1. Climate Change
  2. Sustainability
  3. Indigenous Trade
  
  NZ is waiting another 12 months for discussions to finish on these areas – thank you Nanaia Mahuta.

      About 11,000 years it was so warm, there was no glacier on Mt Kilimanjaro. This was all confirmed by carbon dating of the ice layers.
      
      I note that when any evidence surfaces that destroys the “narrative” for climate change and races in NZ prior to the Maori, that long established and accurate science is “debunked” as inaccurate.
      
      NZ artifacts with carbon dating that puts the presence of humans in NZ as far back as 7000 years ago. Carbon dated human artifacts also discovered under carbon dated volcanic lava flows, put human presence here back tens of thousands of years ago.
      
      Carbon dated cave paintings that were made before the arrival of Maori.
      
      But this doesn’t suit the narrative so the one eyed zealots who claim Maori were the first humans to set foot in NZ, have to debunk carbon dating as inaccurate. Despite the fact that carbon dating is used to confirm when Maori first arrived.
      
      When oral history of earlier indigenous races record the presence of humans in NZ nearly years ago, the accuracy of oral history is attacked. It is attacked by those who rely on “their” oral history to prove all their history on which “their” land claims are based.
      
      It was the oral history of mainstream Maori that recorded the presence of and slaughtering of the Moriori who were here before Maori. And the survivors fled to the Chatham Islands. That was the history as taught in schools up until the latter half of last century. All based on Maori oral history. When it became an embarrassment in light of land claims, the story was changed and dozens of books on the Moriori disappeared from the Libraries and National archives.
      
      Oral history of the Waitaha goes back 2000 years. Oral history of the Ngapuhi records the presence of White people when the Maori arrived.
      
      Celts, a red haired indigenous race, Spaniards, Peruvians, Chinese, and the list goes on, all existed here before the current Maoris.
      
      Oral histories, carbon dating and science are treated by the left as fluid and changeable, all according as to who and what benefits the narrative.
      
      It suits the puppeteers to create conflict in order to divide and conquer.
      
      If cows farting impact CO2, what then did the dinosaurs, pterodactyls, mammoths and bison do? Ah that’s right, they all took antacid tablets. How stupid of me.
      
      What about the wild forest, brush and felt fires? All caused by no maintenance by mankind? Did they not contribute to CO2?
      
      In Africa where the wilds are not taken over by mankind, fires are a regular occurrence. Did the world have automatic sprinkler systems prior to the arrival of mankind.

      Can’t be manuka honey: there were no honey bees in New Zealand until European settlers arrived. In addition the manuka tree is also indigenous to Australia.
      
      Perhaps it’s to do with copyrighting Maori culture and language. No hakas, no Maori designs, no Maori words to be used without Maori copyright permission.

  1) Set up a fast temporary deal with a 2 year lifetime.
  2) Immediately go about negotiating the longer-term deals.

  She pointed out that the kids in the Auckland School Strike For Climate were worried for the future of the planet, and convinced that mankind would be wiped out in just a few decades – yet they were willing to disband for fear of being seen as being racist.
  
  Think about that for a minute. These kids are so afraid of being seen as racist and privileged, that they will give up their cause meaning that – as they see it – all mankind will literally be made extinct. How messed up is that?

      Auckland Uni looked at Pacific Island and their sinking and found none. Erosion was popular and some atolls were being damaged because the fish which break down coral into sand were being eaten and the foundations were not being replaced.
      Tuvalu is a mess–the seas wash over the top and the grossly excessive population are trampling their fresh water reserves underfoot.

  Never confuse science and scientists.
  
  The scientists, especially academia, know which song sheet to sing from if they want lots of funding. If they start going off script following the science they immediately get brought back into line (or disowned) by the others.
  
  It really is a shocking way to treat science, but ultimately scientists are people too: they have mortgages, they have egos, they like prestige.
  
  Wokists control the purse strings. They control access to publishing. They control employment in academia. The scientists know to fall into line or screw up their careers.
  
  Ironically, by preserving their careers they destroy them too because they end up pursuing woke science instead of real science.

    And why do governments the world over – right wing, left wing, open markets, managed economics, democracies, dictatorships, monarchies, theocracies – all want climate scientists to say that governments should take ruinously expensive and politically unpopular actions, when governments themselves clearly don’t actually want to take those actions?

The tendrils of the Government’s PR machine are everywhere:

The Government’s housing developer Kāinga Ora has been paying $25,000 a month to sponsor media stories on NZME’s OneRoof real estate website.

But the stories from the KiwiBuild and public house developer did not carry a disclaimer making clear who was paying for them.

A disclaimer was added by NZME after Stuff approached the company for comment.

National’s housing spokeswoman Nicola Willis uncovered the content deal with a written question to Housing Minister Megan Woods.

“It’s a secret jack-up between the Government’s housing arm and a media provider to make what are ads look like genuine news stories,” Willis said

    So the principles Clare Curran pitched to the Labour Party executive in 2006 still hold true?
    
    “Framing” is the political left’s new buzzword for what used to be called brainwashing. It has been developed into an art form by George Lakoff, Professor of Linguistics at Berkley University and forms the basis of a paper prepared by communications consultant Claire Curran for last month’s Labour Party’s Southland Regional Conference. Called “Language Matters: Setting agendas – taking charge of the debate”, the paper describes the necessity of capturing the language for the center-left if Labour is to win the next election. It provides an insight into their communication strategy.
    
    The key message delivered in the paper is that Labour must take control of the language: “This paper is about Labour taking greater charge of the language of debate and discussion in New Zealand . It is called ‘re-framing’ and it means gaining (or regaining) the use of concepts and phrases that spark public and media interest. If you control the language, you control the message. The media doesn’t create the message, they run with it”.
    
    This concept is, of course, the central tenet of political correctness, a mechanism developed in the 1920s to help advance communism. Writer and long-time commentator on communism in Cuba, Agustin Blazquez, in an article “Political Correctness: the scourge of our times”, describes it this way: “Political Correctness remains just what it was intended to be: a sophisticated and dangerous form of censorship and oppression, imposed upon the citizenry with the ultimate goal of manipulating, brainwashing and destroying our society” (click here to view).
    
    The Curran paper explains: “Despite being in power for more than six years, Labour’s framework is not clearly understood by a confused and sometimes unhappy electorate.

    Look at the paragraph in bold; isn’t that exactly what happened last year through Covid? Labour paid a PR firm many thousands of dollars to come up with buzz-phrases like “Team of Five Million”, “We went hard and early”, and later on, we had to be reminded that Covid was a “tricky virus”, as if it had a mind of its own! Unsurprisingly, the media lapped these phrases up and used them liberally, whilst complimenting the PM on her ability to communicate.
    
    What’s been reported today is an extension of that; a message direct from the government, but wrapped up as though it has come from some neutral source. It’s cynical, it’s insidious, and worst of all, it’s downright dishonest.

Quite a lot of anecdotes from landlords and tenants wrt impacts of government recent and very recent changes. None in a good way.

There are various reports, analyses and opinions, but one number that can be tracked over time is the number of new households accepted onto the social housing waiting list. This number represents households in serious housing trouble.

Probably not all due to landlord actions – though who knows – but an indicator all the same. So, new households added to the waiting list in March – 1958. Up 30% on February number. Big jump.

New social housing builds are being added, for sure, but a small fraction of the new additions to the waiting list each month. Going backwards fast. Though cost to taxpayers – which is massive – is not going backwards.

Social housing waiting list at 31 March – 23,687. I rest my case.

  Yep. helped a couple of mates move this weekend. Some genuine anger at govt. policy was expressed, since they had an open ended tenancy and no blame against the landlord. They parted on friendly terms. The rental is all to spec, and now there is no incentive to rent it out due to the tax ‘loophole’ being close by Robber.
  The landlords are moving into their rental, since it is better than their own home!
  1 house freed up on the market perhaps, but 3 tenants needing new home.
  Who could have ever anticipated people might exit the rental market if landlords keep having costs added and profits removed by regulation?

Heard yesterday that some environmental outfit is promoting electric 4WD farm bikes and is trialling them in the backblocks of the Wairarapa.
The cockies get on these things and after a couple of hours beating about the hills the battery goes flat up a narrow muddy track somewhere. Inaccessible for a ute to go and rescue them they then get lifted out by helicopter.

  I lived in rural Canterbury for a while. Every few years we’d get a solid dump of snow that would take out power lines for a few days. On one occasion some farmers lost power for over 2 weeks.
  
  Our internet was via a wireless link from the top of Flagpole Hill. It ran off solar backed with a week of batteries. It normally worked well, but that packed up. The nice internet people did fly in with a helicopter to replace the batteries when they could.
  
  So hows the electric 4 wheeler going to get charged? Is every farmer now expected to have a 5kW generator + diesel stored in their shed to run it?
  
  And don’t say solar panels, because the sun doesn’t really shine in winter (even worse when it is cloudy).

  All the top people in the universities etc tell us that vaccinated people can still get the virus and can transfer it to others. The only benefit is reduced symptoms.
  
  Therefore even if you’re vaccinated:
  * Still have to wear masks on buses.
  * Still have to go through MIQ.
  
  Vaccines are not the end of this at all.

    Two points to consider:
    
    1) No, infection rates are not high compared with a BAD flu.
    
    2) With almost all vaccines, vaccination gives you a large amount of immunity to further infection of being a carrier. The experts are telling us this is not the case for the vaccine being used against this virus.
    
    This vaccine is not as effective as a seasonal flu vaccine and certainly is nowhere near as effective as the vaccines that have changed the world (eg. polio).

    For some reason NZ political parties never seem to have someone teed up to take over the leadership successfully when a popular leader departs.
    One needs to go back the Peter Fraser to find a party leader who has won an election after his predecessor has retired, died or lost the leadership.
    Keith Holyoake replaced Holland and lost to Nash, but he hung on and three years later beat Nash. That would be the nearest.

      Holyoake took over as prime minister (following Holland’s death) on 20 September 1957, just 10 weeks before the upcoming general election.

So Auckland ratepayers (and taxpayers) invest hundred’s of millions into the Viaduct basin development for the America’s Cup.

Meanwhile returns for such investment (which may now not be fully utilised again) and the downgraded economic flow-on benefits of hosting the AC Cup eg due to the lack of overseas tourists, shut out from the event due to the covid border restrictions, are somewhat symbolic of Labour’s ineptness and bizarre thinking that we still see day to day.

After all the government prevented overseas super-yachts (and their rich owners, looking to spend, plus their crews) from visiting despite having been covid free after what would have been days if not weeks traveling from other (covid-free Pacific) locations.

IIRC the government also cancelled a pre AC Cup yachting tournament(citing they wouldn’t allow border exemptions).

Now I know we have to be careful of who we let into the country, but if it’s good enough for Hollywood film crews to gain exemption (hmm … film connections again) I personally think that much of the AC Cup failure to realise much of the economic benefits for Auckland can be sheeted home to Labour’s muddled thinking.

Thank goodness again to Australia and ScoMo for breaking down the trans-tasman barriers recently, otherwise NZ would still be closed off by a paralysed and inept Labour government!

      Not letting real tourists in to watch will stuff anything up. NZ was shown to be a leader among boat designers and builders. This is very high tech and we should be taking advantage where we can. $200M is small change to keep that industry alive and revive it. They can give away $60M for Pike River and hundreds of million for planning a tramway down Dominion Road!
      
      Don’t the Greens like perfecting movement through free wind on water? Our teams are at the forefront of new ship design ideas.
      
      Once lost it will be almost impossible to recover. Perhaps tiddlywinks in the PM’s office would attract a larger crowd but they would have to be certified sycophants first.

This is the anti body treatment that prevents the worst effects of the Kung Flu if given within 3 days of infection……

Inflation in the US is over 4% and heading north. NZ and the rest of the West will follow. Some of us can remember the 70s and 80s and the impact of inflation.
My memory of my studies of Economics 101 over 50 years ago is that inflation is caused by too much money chasing too few goods and services.
Running the printing presses is a short term fix. Whilst it makes economies appear to be performing in time reality catches up.
And thats where we are. Prices will rise rapidly. Wage and salary earners and Unions will demand increases to at least cover inflation. Producers will increase their prices to cover this.
The Ardern/Robertson Government will enact wage freezes price freezes rent freezes interest rate freezes and we will be back to the Glorious Eighties

I’m not getting the attitude of some of these highly paid professional sports people.
Footballers Ronaldo and Pogba have removed sponsors products (CocaCola and Heineken) from their tables at after match media conferences.
Tennis players also resisting media after games due to mental health issues.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought these celebrity people/teams were sponsored big time by multi nationals and that is where they derived at least part of their huge incomes?
If I was head of marketing at one of these big companies, why would I keep investing in millionaire sports “stars” who publicly reject my products?

“To My Fellow Normal People:

We need to have a conversation.

Since you’re normal people, you are not “racist.” You wish harm upon no individual or group of individuals. Such thoughts would never occur to you.

This still makes you “racist” in the current hysteria, because simply being a good and courteous person to everyone you meet isn’t nearly enough to satisfy the hall monitors, if indeed they can ever be satisfied.

To satisfy them, at the very least you have to look for a racial element in pretty much everything. You must obsess over race. You must believe that the United States is a “white supremacist” country. You must insist that any differing outcomes between groups are caused by “racism,” without bothering to look at evidence. You must hold Western civilization in contempt.

Well, I’m not doing any of these things, because they’re stupid, they’re based on nothing, and they provoke needless conflict among people of good will.

If the U.S. were a “white supremacist” country, being called a white supremacist would be a way to advance in society, as opposed to the career and life destroyer it obviously is.

Further, there wouldn’t be a veritable army of discrimination lawyers making it borderline impossible to fire some individuals, and there wouldn’t be special programs to promote certain groups in every industry and profession you can name.

Further still, in a “white supremacist” country you would surely want to check the “white” box on your college application. Members of all groups would want to do that.

Any nonwhite person checking the “white” box thinking this will get him some “white privilege” in the admissions process needs his head examined.

If we were dealing with decent, normal people who just want to be sure everyone is treated decently and fairly, that would be one thing.

These folks are anything in the world but that.

Here’s example #77,228: 34-year-old musician and composer Daniel Elder, about whom Robby Soave just wrote a devastating article.

Around the time of George Floyd’s death, the Nashville-based Elder looked in horror at the rioting and violence not far from where he lived, including the burning down of the courthouse. He saw on social media how his own friends and contacts were becoming radicalized in a bad way, to the extreme of actually justifying violence and destruction.

On Twitter he posted, “Enjoy burning it all down, you well-intentioned, blind people. I’m done.”

This was the entirety of what he wrote. Nothing at all about Black Lives Matter, or the legitimacy of the grievances involved, and in fact the person who burned down the courthouse was white.

For that statement — and I promise you, that is all he said — he was savagely attacked, being called a “white supremacist piece of garbage.”

Imagine the mental state someone would have to be in to read this criticism of physical destruction and conclude that its author must be a “white supremacist.”

Here are some of the kinder, family-friendly ones, courtesy of Soave:

“Do some research and maybe some inner reflection and maybe figure out where your racist tendencies are coming from. You are canceled. Black lives matter!”

“I hope that you find a way to lose that hate in your heart.”

“After learning of your insensitive comments on social media, however perceived as misunderstood, I’ve decided to unsubscribe from your [YouTube] channel and will no longer recommend your compositions to colleagues.”

“It’s really a shame. Such beautiful music and I feel like I can’t do any of it now.”

“I am a choir director and department head for the music department for a private school in Ohio. I want to inform you that your rhetoric surrounding the recent protests is unacceptable and my school will not be programming your music unless and until a public apology is issued.”

Remember, these people are reacting to the 11 words I quoted for you.

Then the cowards and loons at GIA Publications, Elder’s publisher, demanded he sign an apology they drafted for him. It was the usual ritualistic “I accidentally told the truth, but now I’m really sorry and would like to rejoin society if you’ve all decided my life doesn’t have to be 100% ruined” kind of apology that our deranged elites expect from someone in his position.

He told them to go stick it.

Now that’s not how things are supposed to go! He is supposed to beg for forgiveness! Doesn’t he know how the Liturgy of Regret for Offending Crazy People goes?

So his publisher denounced and dropped him.

All for those 11 words indicating that he thought burning down a courthouse might be a bad idea.

GIA’s statement began, “The views expressed in composer Daniel Elder’s incendiary social media post on Sunday evening do not reflect the values of GIA or our employees. GIA opposes racism in all its forms and is committed to do what Michelle Obama called ‘the honest, uncomfortable work of rooting it out.'”

“Incendiary”!

Remember when burning down a courthouse would have been the incendiary part?

So here’s the deal:

Like all decent people, I oppose injustice, period.

But I cannot and will not be part of any movement whose members behave like this — and behave like this they do, time after time.

I won’t apologize, I won’t pander, and I won’t cater to them in any way. They are not honest brokers, and they are not decent people. No decent person takes part in what was done to Daniel Elder. Either they believe he’s a “white supremacist,” in which case they’re suffering from emotional hypochondria, or they know full well he’s a decent person but they just enjoy destroying people who stray even slightly from what they’re expected to say.

Either way, it’s not flattering.

Meanwhile, like you, I will continue to be a decent person who treats all people with respect. Not because I live in fear of irrational lunatics like this, but because it’s the right thing to do.”

The numbers are depressing. Just 14 percent of Germans see American democracy as a desirable model for other countries, while 54 percent say that it “used to be a good example, but has not been in recent years.” Public opinion in France, Britain, South Korea, Japan and Australia is similarly bleak. In New Zealand, fewer than 1 in 10 citizens sees American democracy as a desirable model.

In every place surveyed except New Zealand, around half or more have a favorable opinion of the U.S.

  The US Constitution is framed so as to protect the Republic of federated states from direct vote democracy, in order to, among other things, preserve states’ rights. The Electoral College is what counts.

Goodness me, the media bends itself into all sorts of contortions to avoid criticising the astonishingly inept vaccine rollout. From the Horrid, gems such as:

“The country remains over 7 per cent ahead of the rollout plan” and “No DHBs had stopped their rollouts due to low supplies, Bloomfield said.”

And yet, this managed to slip through: “Based on data, the Auckland region is running behind rollout schedule” which to my knowledge is the first time in recent memory the Horrid has based anything on data.

And it turns out that “The rollout could slow down, and some centres may have to pause, but they were balancing their rollout based on supply.” This is much nicer than stating the truth: this government has mismanaged the vaccine rollout and has lied continuously to the public, aided by the media, to pretend that we’re not actually rock-bottom in the table of developed countries, and that they’re actually “ahead of schedule”.

Please don’t piss on us and tell us it’s raining.

She was wondering if it might be better to wait till later in the year (or even next), when the new generation Pfizer vaccines become available, rather than run the risk of having one of the current crop of experimental vaccines?

  Near my house is the Mangere Piriti Urupaa, which is a Māori cemetery.
  Every now and then as I walk by I see a graveyard funeral service with all manner of attendees including patched gang members.
  I talked to the curator there one day. He said he was firm about behaviour. Flags taken away, alcohol bottles left on the grave as some sort tribute were removed. He told me that if the gang members hung around on the footpath he told them to show proper respect by going over the service.
  None of these funerals are big events like the one tomorrow and never attract any attention.

Was a day when the people who influenced others were shining examples of success in their chosen fields of sports, business, science.
The following article (unfortunately behind a paywall which probably should have been warning enough) describes a couple with 4 kids who can’t find a rental house so is screaming “discrimination”. The description of her occupation? “Social Media Influencer” TBH I cannot see any reason why she would engender enough respect to influence anyone with half a brain unless it was to act as a warning to others.

Mind you, she may well earn more doing that than anything else she is capable of and I am living in the parallel universe of getting out of life what you put in. Can anyone show me the light?

Housing wait list trebled in three years.
5300 in emergency motel ,23,000 on the state housing waiting list and the punter that’s backs Jacinda Ardern and the Labour Government doesn’t care or they would be holding our Prime Minister to account.
Labour have preached for nearly 4years about housing and those they are supposed to help and what have they done sweet fuck all.
In September 2017 their was 2,000 sleeping in cars according to Labour when they went to the Election promising their flagship policy of Kiwibuild and the 100,000 homes they would build in the next 10 year with less than 500 built in the first 3 years and they still spout about it being Nationals fault , well in four years the problem has trebled and it’s still Nationals fault and the media just roll over and give them a free pass.

Some here will not/never understand this. It is happening right under their noses – or, they want this….
This is NOT a joke. Just something to think about. You will appreciate the final statement.
There was a professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class.
One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man,an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt.
The professor asked the young man what was the matter.
The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting Communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist regime.
In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked: “Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line.
The young man said that it was no joke. “You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free food.
When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn they are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.”
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America & Canada. The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/ Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco
subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare entitlements, medicine, drugs, etc., while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time.
One should always remember two truths:
There is no such thing as a free lunch, and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.
If you see that all of this wonderful government “help” is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America & Canada, you might want to share this with your friends.
If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will probably not share this.
BUT, God help us all when the gate slams shut!
