Jacinda Ardern’s Government continues with her Wellbeing and Kindness policy by allowing the Human Rights Commission to give the Waikato Mongrel a $200 donation after a controversial speaking event.
” This is a criminal organization which peddles misery and the Human Rights Commission is using taxpayers money to legitimize them,” David Seymour said.
National Party Spokesman Simeon Brown was also outraged and told ZB no
Government Organization should donating to the Mongrel Mob full stop.
This is outrageous as it doesn’t mater what the value of the donation is whether $10 or $1000 any donation to crime is a invitation to gangs to commit more serious crimes.

        Anybody who believes he or she knows how other people think is waiting for the nice men in white coats.
        Firstly it’s clear you wouldn’t have the fortitude to meet the Mob, and secondly, mummy didn’t teach you any manners like taking some scones when you visit.

        Actually, I have interacted with the mob and a couple of other gangs and have had clients among them as well.
        
        Only a coward kills from afar, like most driveby shootings, so perhaps that’s why feel like a kindred spirit of the cowards within the mob. Murdering young people and destroying their lives with narcotics so you can have the latest Harley does not garner ant respect from me.

  Normally the guest speaker gets a feed and a bottle of wine in thanks. It seems that here, the guest speaker had to pay for the food for himself and a dozen others, and probably missed out on the wine. This in itself is a sad indictment of the gullibility of this HRC tosser.

    So Mafeking has finally been relieved a day early and we cheer to actually receive another modest 150,000 vaccinations which will all be used by Wednesday.
    What the hell is going on ?

    Doesn’t seem there was any case to answer, aside from inside your head.
    I Googled searched the name of that card-carrying ‘white supremacist’ and you had misrepresented/incorrectly paraphrased a pretty silly Facebook post.
    It is easy to become an irredeemable non-person, and a literal Nazi, based on the interpretations by others of your Facebook feed it seems.
    
    Posting dumb comments or rants doesn’t mean you can conclude someone is a white supremacist (I assume for such an accusation the bar should be high here). ……It only allows you to conclude that they post dumb comments.
    This is why Hate Speech laws are such a terrible idea, when small minded people snatch for pitchforks and flaming torches.
    All political parties take money from dumb people who sometimes say dumb things, I am sure.

Is it akin to being a Maori separatist and supremacist? Or an Islamic supremacist? Or a Chinese supremacist? And why is it considered a first principle that taking their money is so egregious?   Everything’s back to front with this useless gummint. I’ve helped organise dozens of conferences, seminars, events and so on – not once has the person we’ve invited to speak given money.
  
  In some cases they give their time and efforts freely, but often the organisers will pay a fee – and for a keynote speaker it can be very high – and in every single case we meet travel and accommodation costs.
  
  I guess it’s easy to give a koha when it’s not your money, eh bro?

    That is what astounded me on reading this piece.
    
    The koha was given after Commissioner Paul Hunt delivered a speech at a hui hosted by the Mob’s Waikato chapter in May.
    
    So an organisation hosts an event; they (presumably) reach out to the Commissioner and he agrees to speak at the event – and the guest speaker has to PAY for the privilege?!
    
    It’s completely ass-about-face.
    
    I also note that, according to the article, the Greens co-leader and Minister for the Prevention of Family and Sexual Violence Marama Davidson was at the hui … but “it’s understood” Davidson did not provide any koha to the Mongrel Mob.

      Fernglas, I agree we should be undertaking direct action. If someone like Don Brash was to put out a call for a demonstration to support democracy it would get a big turn out. A good date would be 12 September which is the 40th anniversary of the final demo at Eden Park against the 1981 Springbok Tour.
      But it won’t happen and I wonder why not? My theory is that it is mostly us boomers who marched against Apartheid in 1981 and now we are too tired and old to be bothered. The youngies are either in love with the idea of losing their liberty or too busy working, paying their mortgage etc. Pity.

Newstalk ZB is highlighting the discovery that certain small towns are suffering from a meth epidemic. They quote Kaitaia, Opotiki, Wairoa, Huntly and Tokoroa as examples of where the biggest problems are. But what they fail to mention is the common denominator between all of these towns. Hello!. If you can’t recognise the elephant in the room how can you address the problem?

As the NZ Police has said there is a need to secure young people from joining gangs with education and work, Gluckman and Bill English said the same.     To be fair having just travelled around East Cape, it certainly is very depressed looking. At Waihau Bay we saw a Mongrel Mob member strutting across the road with a couple of young Maori boys looking at them – a good chance they were thinking it would be cool eh to grow up like that. Also saw these two young well dressed good looking Maori girls of say 14-16 ?? walking down the street in Ruatoria and wondering what chance did they have if they stay there.
    So yes, no jobs and poverty.

      The only surprise for me is not seeing names of other towns on the list I expected to see.
      
      My flippant comment isn’t a real solution to the real problem. It references our history though, people moved from the provinces to the big smoke for jobs.
      
      Maybe the problem isn’t simply methamphetamine, maybe in those towns meth indicates the real problem.

        Doggone7 I live in Huntly and there has been a lot of people from the cities that have bought properties here and I have been here over 20 years but I have seen and heard those that smoke joints but have never once heard of meth Party’s or anyone that uses it . So I think people think that as it was a rough town a few years ago it’s still the same. As I said before alot of good and hard working people here do lots for this community and there maybe is one or two that might spoil it , but they are in the minority.

    It’s about time they rounded not only the drug dealers up but also the addicts. Put all the addicts into enforced rehab and keep them there for as long as possible. The addicts are as much of a blot on society as the dealers.

      More than half the people that write here are KB addicts, that go into withdrawal if GD is put up late or some function is not working. The withdrawals start with the idea that they can tell other people what they should do, which ironically are things they don’t have the guts to do themselves.

        I can see it now, those who want this sort of solution begging their kids to aspire to get the jobs looking after the inmates in such places. Mind you it’d mean career changes as they’ve probably already sent them off to be farm workers in Southland or fruit pickers in Hawkes Bay.

    I can certainly draw a link to the story about unlicensed, unwarranted and therefore uninsured motor vehicles in those towns.
    It’s not surprising that more and more have not got the wherewithal to ensure that they are driving certified safe and legal vehicles, and contributing to ACC etc. when so much of the region’s wealth is being handed over to the gangs.
    And before anyone tries to nitpick, it is the gangs because independents and competitors do not survive (literally) in the drug black market environment.

South African tensions are rising…

As I have said a few times already, if there is a civil war in South Africa, it is going to be black vs black rather that black vs white.

As we all know, ex-president Zuma was a naughty boy and not very bright. His successor is also a naughty boy, but much brighter.

Zuma was supposed to hand himself in to police, but refused. Zuma has the support of many Zulus and is trying to reframe this as a tribal thing: if you’re a Zulu then you must support Zuma. Zuma has some support form the Zulu king who holds a lot of influence over the majority of the 10-12 million Zulus in South Africa.

On the week end Zuma’s son, Edward, was interviewed saying that they would have to kill a lot of Zulus, himself included, before they’d be able to take Zuma in. What was telling was that Edward was wearing royal headdress at the time – a sign that he speaks with royal authority.

Here’s a video from the week end of Zuma (in yellow and black) and a bunch of his followers doing the Zulu equivalent of a pre-battle haka.

My Zulu is quite rusty – having not spoken much during the last 35 years – and translating chanting and singing is challenging. Still, some of the words being used are interesting. Around 1.35 in this video, the tubby guy with white sandals is saying that the abelungu (foreigners – a bit like pakeha in NZ) are frightened of Zuma and are running away. Normally abelungu is a term used to mean white people, but it can also be used to mean black people that are “acting white”. In this case it is being used to really mean “others” as in “not Zulu”.

In Africa, small words can carry a lot of meaning. In this part of South Africa there are many disgruntled people who do not accept the legitimacy of the current government and who really do see the current government as foreigners. To a tribal society, in which the Zulus are by far the top-dog tribe, being ruled by anyone else is insulting and demeaning.

        Minor crimes that might have been given a criminal penalty might be dealt with quite differently. This the the arguement begin put forward for why a seperate maori justice system is needed.

Mahuta’s sole purpose in parliament is grifting for iwi. The water reforms are an iwi grift driven by the co-governance bull shit. Co-governance is code for control and massive levies to go to iwi with no benefit to the payer. Iwi now find it hard to extort money from say Auckland Council / Water care. But Auckland rate payer assets will transfer across to these new central authorities and the money will just flow into iwi.

Everything about Mahuta is an iwi grift.

UNDRP response to get urban Maori lens – Waatea News
Tāmaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare says he’s keen to hear an urban Māori view of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson yesterday thanked members of the independent advisory group which wrote the He Puapua report setting out possible steps to implement the declaration, and opened up the debate to the Māori world, with more general consultation to happen next year.

Mr Henare says it’s good the issue is now being put out to the public, after months of inaccurate attacks from the Opposition.

“I want us all as a nation to have a mature conversation about what our future looks like and what is the role of tangata whenua and how we lift prospects for all of us and hopefully that will bear out in the consultation. I would be keen to see the view of Tāmaki Makaurau and what it means for them in those urban settings where many of our people find themselves at the wrong end of the statistics,” he says. [1]

So, if –
• from the Treaty, the Third Article says – For this agreed arrangement therefore concerning the Government of the Queen, the Queen of England will protect all the ordinary people of New Zealand and will give them the same rights and duties of citizenship as the people of England

• but – Mr Henare says it’s good the issue is now being put out to the public, after months of inaccurate attacks from the Opposition (and should add: media) – and with another six months of negativity likely to follow –
Why has Willie jackson “opened up the debate to the Māori world, with more general consultation to happen next year“?

It is surely the same irrational process as follows the one-sided Capital Gains Tax “national conversation” (Government never supplied their side, leaving everyone to guess at what they were supposedly discussing) which culminated in Ardern throwing the issue out of the cot (although she says she believed in such a tax, or similar) for the duration at least that she is Prime Minister. And now the “hate speech” legislation proposals “national conversation”, where Government can not again define an absolute starting position to talk about, just generates a certain amount of hate speech as a result!

If we are One, or Us, why the split in consultation or ‘conversation’.
Ardern (not Willie Jackson or Peeni Henare) needs to explain that.

Mrs HK is insistent that we must bring our son up to understand the cultures of the country he lives in (even if we know there is a lot of invented bul****t associated along with it. So, after hearing the ads on the radio, on Saturday evening we packed up warm and headed to Auckland viaduct precinct to see the Matariki display. It was a case of business as usual, or another oversell by the Council and a massive underwhelming delivering, and us questioning why did we bother?

In a similar vein, Auckland Stuff’s throw away rags were running an opinion piece by a woman with a photo of Peters. She was trying to play the race card against those of us who refuse to accept that contrived “Maori” word for NZ meaning land of the long white… Lady,like the Maui legends it was made up in the 19th Century, and she like the govt luvvies who perpetuate it, you are an insult to intelligent life.

Or, as Simon Bridges said on Q&A, you are brained washed with dogma and must repeat 18 times by lunchtime.

I remember when

While digging to repair some cat damage at the weekend I noticed that the area I was working in was covered with cluster flies.
I have been to a couple of farm houses where they are a problem so hope they don’t like my house.
Another thing I noticed while down south was the number of wasps still flying, especially inside, in mid June despite chilly weather.
Is the presence of the cluster flies providing a food source that allows the wasps to survive deeper into winter.

Reading the local Rodney Times (a Stuff publication and reading it is not good for your mental health), I found an opinion piece by Todd Niall talking up the govt fee bate scheme and rubbishing the concerns of SUV and use drivers. His piece appeared to have been written directly from the spinmeisters of PriNZess herself. It told us all will be fine, there will uses coming along soon and we will not have “carmagedon”.

For the benefit of PriNZess and her dim witted followers:
1. Many of us drive uses etc., because our lifestyles require these types of vehicles;
2. The manufactures have said the replacement models for diesel uses will not be available until 2025 in commercial volumes until 2025 at the earliest;
3. Just because Jacinda wishes, people cannot shoe horn their lifestyles into Nissan Leafs;
4. NZ does not have enough electricity supply or infrastructure to charge the country’s fleet of vehicles if all vehicles were converted to electric; and then there is,
5. Nor replacement for RUC or fuel excise tax has been considered as a replacement to fund the Land Transport Fund; or
6. There were reports last week that some insurance companies do not have and will not insure electric cars because they are too expensive to repair, replace.

So, before saying everything is fine, may be PriNZess and her friends should do some strategic and critical thinking, before imposing policies that will transform NZ for the worse.

    Audi is going all electric by 2026, with legacy combustion models phased out by 2033. So all those cashed up Aucklanders wanting fast wagons and SuUVs will still be able to tailgate, just more quietly 😉
    
    BMW is launching the i4 which while not a Toyota Corolla, will shift big numbers worldwide and is a standard bearer for good electric cars.
    
    Speaking of Toyota, they have just announced their first full EV platform, and will be collaborating with Mazda on some powertrain work, and Mazda and Subaru on user software.
    
    So electric revolution fo everything that isn’t an enthusiast car is coming, whether government dictates it or not.

        The free market will allow for this. The obvious starting point for manufacturers is to test these vehicles at the luxury price point where the margins are higher and the buyers have the cash to pay for it.
        
        It will trickle down, as everything from Airbags to ABS, to radar cruise to double clutch transmissions has done.

        I’m not talking about the current new car market, I’m talking about the market in 5-10+ years.
        
        Just as a starter, you can convert plenty of commercial vans and vehicles to electric as they do the vast majority of their work in the city.

        Well firstly NZ doesn’t have the electrical generating capacity for a wholly (or even majorly) EV fleet. Nor will it have the infrastructure or capacity in 5-10 years
        
        Secondly, I’ve always said here, that if you’re the kind of car buyer that spends $80k and swaps cars every 3 years or so (your new Audi/BWM buyers) you’d be mad not to buy an EV version and have the poor subsidise your motoring as is currently the case
        
        Thirdly there is nothing radically new on the battery horizon, researchers have been looking for a breakthrough for over 30 years and all they’ve achieved is incremental slight upgrades. Batteries have a limited life (that ain’t changing any time soon) and require charging – how’s that going to work in multi-story dwellings? A charge point for every parking space…
        
        Fourthly, in terms of the trickle-down to the s/h market (the overwhelming majority of buyers in NZ) if you assume the same depreciation as on an ice vehicle your “wonderful” i4 is going to set a buyer back roughly $60k when it’s 3 years old. Any later than that and you’re playing battery roulette – you don’t want to be holding an EV at 5/6 years old when the replacement battery bill is 2-3 years away and its residual value is plummeting like a stone

        I *personally* am not idealogically opposed to EVs as such, and there is a good chance that when my current car – which I use solely for driving from home to work and back – is due for replacement, I will consider an EV.
        
        But my current car is very much the second car in our household. And when we look at replacing the main car (a Toyota Ipsum people-mover), we will want something that fills a variety of functions:
        
        – It needs to have sufficient space to fit big loads inside; we use our car for transporting all sorts of bulky stuff
        – It needs to able to tow a trailer full of gravel, lime, and other heavy loads
        – It needs to able to travel up to 250 km, WITH a trailer on the back, WITHOUT STOPPING for several hours to recharge. Because there is no way I’m driving down to my friends in the Waikato after work, and stopping for several hours on a cold dark night to recharge the EV.
        – And it will be second-hand, around the $15K mark
        
        Correct me if I’m wrong, but currently I don’t believe there is an EV available in NZ which fits those requirements, at the price that I can pick up a suitable second hand petrol car.
        
        I think over the next few years that people will look to buy EVs as a second car. Because the reality is that most people use their cars for numerous different purposes – carrying kids around to school and sporting events; towing trailers or boats; going on holidays where you’re inevitably driving for several hours, often with kids in the back; shifting heavy loads around; emergency dashes off to the hospital with a sick kid – and finding a car that (a) meets all those requirements, and (b) is affordable can be tricky.

        Yeah I agree with you there. But I would say that nothing happens instantly, so it is natural that there isn’t an EV to fit every need right now.
        
        In my house we will probably have an EV as the main car, and whatever sporty/niche car I have as a toy for driving pleasure.

        Wavey makes a very good point about charging units in multi storey dwellings. Even in surburban streets there will be a problem with owning an electric car.
        There’s a real disconnect between the types of houses being built and the ability to charge an EV.
        Where I live, established houses on sections are being bought by developers at 2-3 times the CV and replaced by 5-8 townhouses. And the streets are now clogged with parked cars. If councils aren’t going to require adequate parking to allow EVs to be charged, developers will continue to build houses that produce the biggest profit and people will continue to buy petrol cars. The council view seems to be that people will use public transport, but the increasing number of cars parked in suburban streets suggests that people still own cars.

        For what it’s worth Frank. I see the whole EV vs Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) dilemma as being just like the VHS vs BETA debates and acquisition during the Video Cassette Recorder (VCR) days.
        Those in favour of video quality were pushing the BETA version whilst those in favour of VHS were pushing price and availability.
        To cut a long story short, price and availability won the day and BETA had a very short time in the sun.
        I’m picking that once people realise what a rort this Govt backed EV thing is, they will be preferencing their ICE vehicles and manufacturers will quickly cater for the demand.
        I for one will not be moving away from Diesel SUVs in favour of EVs anytime soon.

        The only way the Greenies are going to get you out of your car is to tax you and then you will have to deal with this:
        “AC stands for alternating current, and DC stands for direct current. The power that we get from the electricity grid is AC power – but EV batteries can only store DC power. So, AC power needs to be converted to DC in order to charge your car. The difference between AC and DC chargers is where that conversion takes place – inside or outside the car.
        You live in Hobsonville and you have a 3 stored house with 3 – 4 adults living at the address and and right now, all own a car because they have very awkward work commuting issues. There is no way a wall or trickle charger can charge 3-4 vehicles and get a full charge overnight. Tiny little roads no parks due to congestion, have to move the cars all night to get a charge-up. Just saying….
        
        Globally, 7 Billion people we will vote with their wallets for convenience, availability and price.
        
        The Greens would have to turn NZ into 3rd world shit hole to achieve the idealistic brain farty bubble they live in. Ohhh wait….

      Bat, you are a tad blinded by your EV fervour. Ask any auto electrician what sort of wiring most Euro ICE cars have and he/she will say they are shit. Add to this plastic parts in the engine bay that give up the ghost after 4 years because of heat. BMW and the like charge big money for their new vehicles and the value goes through the floor after the warranty has expired. The Japanese companies are well known for making reliable vehicles and don’t make the mistake of plunging headlong into alternative motors. They will reap the rewards of Euro stuff ups, believe me.

      Batman, I appreciate that not all uses or SUVs go beyond the sealed road city limits of Wellington or Auckland.
      
      However, some of us do live and work in rural areas, and some of us drive on some of Auckland’s finest goat tracks that are passed off as fit to use roads.
      
      Equally, please enlighten me as to your proposal as to how I can transport 300kg of chicken feed plus bales of hay home from our stock & station store with a Nissan Leaf?
      
      Or is it a case as we are not city dwellers we have to suffer whatever the market dictates. So much for the rural economy then.

  Forget EV Utes.
  Half a ton of battery for a 1.5ton vehicle is the current weight to battery ratio for a Tesla unless they have come up with some major recently.
  For a 2 ton Ute that can pull 3ton braked you will need 2 ton of battery, that’s the same weight as the Vehicle.
  This by the way is why you will never ever ever ever ever see an electric Truck or Tractor. You can’t bullshit logistics.
  Maybe if you are a poser and only need to tow half a ton non braked then they will be a good investment but 10 of my ewes can easily push that weight limit.
  Compare with an Isuzu Dmax maybe 150kg total for the fuel tank and diesel so take a wild guess which vehicle i am going to buy.

      Kerbed weight of a Dmax is just over 2ton. Around the same weight as a Tesla. Dmax can pull 3 and a half ton braked (i wouldn’t tho)

        That’s where my comments elsewhere about people who aren’t enthusiasts and just want a tool to get from A to B apply. Those folks in the city, or commuting into Auckland let’s say, will benefit from lower running costs and that their car will cost $4 to charge twice a week.

Does anybody seriously believe that the 150,000 doses of vaccine have arrived early? Doesn’t the government keep tags on these things? What about track and trace? I’m inclined to believe that the government was once again using scare tactics and then with the SCHEDULED arrival of the vaccine could brag about how wonderful it was that it arrived early. Then all the little sheeple will sigh with contentment at how wonderful this government is for solving a problem.

With Willie Jackson now to consult exclusively with “Maori stakeholders” over the next six months, until a fuller “national conversation” occurs next year, is fulfilling Rawiri Waititi’s wishes?

In other words, is the discussion of the He Puapua Report actually following what is advocated in the He Puapua Report?

  Actually I think Maori do need to talk amongst themselves to work out what exactly it is that they want, including thinking through the likely consequences of getting it, how it’s to be paid for, and how it could be implemented, just as political parties, social clubs, sports teams, businesses etc have meetings from which other parties and the public are excluded, to think through what their policies/rules/tactics for the next match/marketing strategies are.

    First thing they/we can conclude – it won’t be Maori paying for any seperate structures of government or services. The Crown will fund both transition and maintenance of any change: The taxpayer.
    So while democracy and majority rules is not to Rawiri’s liking, he sure wouldn’t say “we want nothing from you – leave it ALL to us”.
    
    It occurred to me that when he pointed to Tuhoe as a success around returning of sovereignty, that Tuhoe got that with no strings attached. They still have entitlement to the government teat: publicly funded roads within their rohe, health, education, etc.
    
    If Maori really want to say the ‘Roman’s aint done nothing for us’ then they can follow their aspirations without funding from those they would cast aside.
    They sure can’t expect their aspirations to be paid for with tainted Roman silver.
    Cut the umbilical cord for real!

    Something that should be very clear when the national conversation starts is how many Maori have actually participated in or agreed to the “Maori” position. The rest of us need to know what is a majority Maori position and what is what a few activists want.

    I will have little regard for whatever discussion they wish to have if the basic tenent of that discussion is the assumption that the treaty is a partnership.
    
    The way maori acted after 1840 clearly shows that they did not view the treaty as the beginning of a partnership with the Crown and so rewriting the issue then having a discussion based on it is a load of bollocks to me.

Again this morning (on 3’s breakfast show) a person going on about working from home …say one day of the week in order to have a better work/life balance. Somehow I can’t see how that’s going to work for my delivery driver partner. Or my sister in law, the nurse. And my cousin the teacher, my linesman nephew, friend in hospo, son in law the road worker, granddaughter in retail…
Not everybody works in “the office”.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has offered very little opinion on He Puapua other than to rule out one of the recommendations – a Māori Parliament or upper house – and insist it isn’t government policy.

So a couple of questions are – Has Cabinet accepted the Paper that Jackson has prepared, and is that Paper, or an adjusted version of it, what Jackson will now present to “Maori stakeholders” over the next six months, before a fuller “national conversation” occurs next year?
Does media have access to that Cabinet Paper or whatever Jackson is to present to “Maori stakeholders”?

I can only think that we lost a good, strong woman when she walked away from politics. But then I always liked her gutsy approach to life.

So the Marsden Point oil refinery is closing. Reasons cited include rising gas and electricity prices.

I checked. Very few countries in the world lack an oil refining capacity. For energy security reasons. So even most countries in Africa have them. All Asian countries.

So we are joining the likes of Samoa and Fiji.

Am I the only one worried? Megan Woods says everything is fine.

      Not really. We import refined fuel or gas or whatever. Hardly matters. If you think we need more security then we could have bigger tanks. Unless we extract our own oil & gas, & then refine the same, then there’s no security to be had.
      
      As for the well paid jobs – we used import TKD cars & reassemble them in places like Nelson & Thames, but we dumped those plants decades ago because it’s a dumb idea. I’m sorry for those employees who lose out but they’re not the first & they won’t be the last.

  The Marsden oil refinery uses about 230 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year.
  
  At 5Km per killowat hour that equates to 57,500 EV’s driving an average of 20,000 Km per year. So Marsden stopping refining will allow NZ to add 57,500 EV’s to the existing fleet without adding any extra burden to the power grid.

    I’m just back from Oz. My son has a 4 bed house there with aircon etc.
    
    His electricity bill is approx per quarter what ours is per month. We have gas hot water heating and cooking, solar and wetback supplemented hot water yet our bills are astronomical compared to his in Oz.
    
    Maybe big business is just sick of the outrageous costs being inflicted on us all but the margins they have make it difficult or impossible to make a profit. And it will get worse as ardern wrecks havoc amongst us.

Personally I have no inclination to see Lorde in concert, but people have been fooled into buying tickets to all manner of performers, young & old, at inflated prices when regular outlets are sold out; sometimes for non existent seats.

Then they had a big holiday and came back to announce a climate emergency and start implementing the He Puapua recommendations, neither of which were mentioned in their election campaign. Now we’re at the bottom of the OECD for vaccine rollout, have no post-Covid plan, a massive national debt, huge motel bills for the ever increasing numbers of homeless, and violent crime on the rise.

British plans to make the police an all-graduate profession are under fire.

Plans formulated by the College of Policing though not yet y mandated by the Home Secretary, would require recruits to have a degree or join as an apprentice for three years and study for one while on the job.

The Telegraph reports that Marc Jones, incoming chair of Britain’s Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, said the plans risked weakening the “front line” by deterring older, experienced recruits like former soldiers.

In Manitoba, where protesters have pulled down statues of Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, one tribal leader says he hopes they are put back up.

He is David Chartrand, president of the Manitoba Metis Federation. The Metis, who are of mixed indigenous and European descent – mainly French, number about 600,000 people.

The Toronto Star reports that Chartrand said he was impressed by a protest march in Winnipeg, but the destruction of the statues undercut what was being done.

Chartrand said he believes Queen Victoria’s policies tempered a more aggressive Prime Minister John A. MacDonald, who would’ve “got his army and marched right through our territory” had Victoria not advocated treaties.

“I hope they put the statues back up,” said Chartrand,

The Metis, sometimes called French Cree, are one of the three indigenous communities recognised in Canada. The others are the First Nations ( old term, ‘Indians’), who number about 980,000 people, and the Inuit (old term “Eskimo” – in Russia, the term “Eskimo” seems to be still used to group two of Russia’s Arctic peoples, Inuit and Yupik). There are about 45,000 Inuit people in Canada.

“Kestrel Te Amo, who is classed as Priority A or “at risk” on the state house waitlist, has been living in a motel for six months and is losing hope. Two of her children live with her, but her others, including a three-year-old, are staying with family in Wairoa.

“It’s extremely heartbreaking to be separated from my children,” she says.

While she’s grateful for the roof over her head, a motel isn’t a home.

“I’ve been in there a while now so I’m starting to give up a little.”

Maybe kestrel should have given up some time ago, given up having new babies that we are expected to support.

Well it looks like Health care clinics have been giving the Covid vaccine ok as I got a ring saying ours will be doing vaccines three days a week Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and have my first Jab on Friday the 9th of July.

Did I miss something.
Big furore in Australian News media (reported on TV1 News at Noon) about the Dragons illegally celebrating their win over the Warriors.
Apparently thirteen of the team partied at the mansion of one of the team.
This was at odds with the covid rules they operate under.
It could, it was suggested, put the whole NRL programme in jeopardy.
So what’s the problem –
Haven’t they already spent time in a confined space (the dressing rooms) together.
Been tested before the game, before they were allowed to play.
Yelled instructions towards each other.
Sat together in the interchange dugout.
Bound together in scrums if a forward.
Been in the same covid bubble.

Jacinda Ardern spinning away from her Hate Speech Proposals…

Her first line of defence is the classic Pontius Pilate manoeuvre of shifting responsibility away from herself. If she isn’t identified as the driving force in the push for a law change, it will seem much less like a personal failure if the intense public reaction forces a backdown.

Interviewed last week, she said: “The reason we’re having this debate is because the Royal Commission of Inquiry [into the mosque attacks] said to the New Zealand Government, ‘You need to include religion.'”

It is a sentiment she has repeated in Parliament but the Royal Commission’s report was released publicly on December 8 last year while new hate speech laws were promised within weeks of the mosque attacks in 2019.

and will she blame National and Act when her proposals fall over?
As well as trying to shift responsibility to the Royal Commission, Ardern appears to be looking to guarantee a way out for herself by declaring that such a law change requires bipartisan support.
