  IMHO the West have to drive Putin out of Ukraine. Anything less will embolden Russia and also China Nth Korea and Iran to strike their strategic targets.
  Whilst the sanctions against Russia will have some impact on our economy they are nothing like sanctions on China. These would cripple our economy along with a number of others. The West simply doesnt have the capacity to absorbe the China trade.
  The West has a one time chance to weaken the Russian military once and for all. Sure they have Nukes and could use them but allowing Russia to take Ukraine will have long term repercussions. Putin will undoubtedly look to take further territory in his quest to re-establish the old Russian Empire. He sees himself as the 21st Century Peter the Great.

      In any case Russia isn’t fighting Ukraine in Ukraine its actually fighting NATO in a proxy war

        Andrei – you relentless defense of Russia is interesting. Ukraine was a republic under the old USSR. Its freedom and sovereign integrity were agreed to by Russia and the other former Soviet Republics during the USSR break up.
        
        Russia have just wandered in as if Ukraine is their plaything. Yes I know all about the geo-strategic importance of Ukraine as a buffer on Russias western border.
        
        But frankly no one wants to invade Russia, so the buffer state argument is not as imperative as it was in 1940.
        
        Putin is poison stopping Russia moving forward in a modern, open society. He truly thinks he is Alexander III and can roll back reform and a move to openness.

Thinking about becoming a landlord? Think carefully! From the Herald yesterday –

Tenants ordered to pay up after $30,000 of methamphetamine damage to home

Tenants caused significant damage during their one year tenancy, more than $30k, but were only liable for what was not covered by insurance.

Fortunately the names of the tenants are now in lights in the public Tenancy Tribunal record, unlike many cases now where names and other details are often suppressed following a change by the current government. Because reasons.

So before entering the residential rental market, have a glance at the TT decision referred to in the Herald article. Then try a random selection of other decisions and make an educated risk assessment. Plenty to choose from with thousands of decisions every year, covering tens of thousands of disputes. Majority of applications are made by landlords, and most are to recover unpaid rent and for damage. Many of the decisions are very detailed and provide a fascinating window into risks and costs. (Hint – a lot of both.)

  Just to put things into context. WE own 20 properties, all of them tenanted. About 30% of our rents come from WINZ.
  We have taken tenants to the TT on 4 occasions’. Each time the TT has found in our favour and passed orders for the tenants to pay for damages that the insurance couldn’t cover. The purpose for having insurance is to recoup damages, so that works. Our Landlord insurance also covers us for lost rent whilst the dwelling is being restored to pre damage condition. So for us the insurance and the TT provides the protection that they are designed to.

    Except often the dodgy tenant gets to pay back the debt $10 a week and then suddenly disappears. I say avoid rentals/tenants. We got rid of ours and are hugely relieved.

  A great article, I’ll be sure to check them out. An example (right at the end) of how this issue of “by Maori for Maori” is being portrayed by the bought-and-paid-for MSM, despite more than 20 years of failure:
  
  “Last week, RNZ began an article on the Māori Health Authority with: “The new Māori Health Authority to be in place from July could radically improve life expectancy for Māori — but two political leaders [Luxon and Seymour] want it scrapped.””
  
  As is common when the mainstream media discusses co-governance initiatives, RNZ didn’t offer a shred of evidence that the new authority would be likely to arrive anywhere near such a happy outcome.
  
  The new Maori health Authority is just as likely – perhaps even more so – to have zero positive effects on Maori life expectancy as it is to improve them. What’s not in doubt is that this will be an enormously expensive brown elephant of an organisation, bloated and slow-moving, serving only to enrich the troughers lining up for their share of whitey’s money.

This is one of the most disturbing proposals I have seen in many years. KK posted about it a couple of days, but for anyone who isn’t aware of this it needs repeating and sharing everywhere. This is an astonishingly dangerous proposal. That the WHO take control of the international response to any future “pandemic”.
Never forget, it was the WHO who changed the definition of a “pandemic” so that any seasonal sniffle or cold can be called one. This then gives the WHO the power to impose lockdowns, mandates and vaccinations on everyone. It is an astonishing attempted power grab yet I have never heard it mentioned by any MP in NZ or in the NZ media outlets. It is happening right now but it isn’t being discussed publicly?

This is a small excerpt from an open letter published on a website by a group called the World Council for Heath. I don’t know too much about this group, I’ll be investigating further, but ask anyone reading it to focus on the content of the letter.

“Historically, the WHO leadership has failed the people. Among many examples, it approved the injurious H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine for a controversially declared pandemic. Equally, the WHO failed during the Covid-19 chapter as it encouraged lockdowns, suppressed early preventive treatments, and recommended product interventions that have proven to be neither safe nor effective.

The WHO cannot be allowed to control the world’s health agenda, nor enforce biosurveillance. While it receives funding from public sources belonging to the people, it is caught in a perpetual conflict of interest because it also receives substantial funding from private interests that use their contributions to influence and profit from WHO decisions and mandates. For example, the Gates Foundation and the Gates-funded GAVI vaccine promotion alliance, contribute over $1 billion a year.”

  “As you may know, the WHO is proposing a global pandemic agreement that would give it undemocratic rights over every participating nation and its citizens. Put simply, in the event of a ‘pandemic’, the WHO’s constitution would replace every country’s constitution. Whether your country’s elected government would agree or not, the WHO could impose lockdowns, testing regimes, enforce medical interventions, dictate all public health practice, and much more.”

  The Auckland CBD has never really been safe.
  
  I remember bad stuff happening in the 90’s when I lived there. One night out, we had a couple of youngish maori women attack us for being white. One of them approached us and started punching members of our group and throwing racial slurs. Reluctant to punch back because they were female. We’d have looked to be the offenders.
  
  Aside from that, there were plenty of fights and assaults on Friday and Saturday nights. It really wasn’t wise to walk around the cbd by yourself while intoxicated.

    If my mate and I were at a loose end there was a hotel in Courtney Pl where you could watch people fighting in the public bar on Friday night.
    Regent I think it was called.
    One Saturday we bought a keg of beer there and borrowed 4doz glasses.
    When we took them back on the Monday it transpired the place had been demolished in the interim.

It’s an interesting article and it clearly shows how stats are used to reinforce your argument
I am been concerned for some time at the lack of coverage of poor pakeha children. If you went into bat for the pakeha kids you would state there are twice as many poor pakeha kids than Maori kids. Quite correct. However if you were arguing for the Maori kids you would say that the percentage of Maori kids in poverty in the Maori community is greater than in the pakeha community. Again correct. Lets get away from this race based scenario and accept that kids are kids no matter what their ethnicity is and fix poverty.

        What is true is that, in our case, the vast majority of Maori are living lives just as good as their non-Maori equivalents in terms of earnings, longevity etc.
        
        What is also true is that there are a minority of Maori living lives of poor outcomes relative to not only the majority of non-Maori but also their Maori counterparts.
        
        The absolutely best thing we could be doing right now in NZ is carefully researching and analysing the lives of successful Maori and non-Maori alike and asking ourselves just what are the behaviours, life choices etc that have enabled these people to succeed?
        
        Then relentlessly hammering those messages and lessons in our kohanga, kura, marae, schools, sports clubs etc for the next 25-50 years, alongside abolishing the government incentivising of failure, rather than success, and then we might actually get somewhere.

I got Covid. Felt a bit grotty for two days but continued to be productive and get my work done. That’s the same report back from all my overseas contacts when they got infected. Didn’t bother self isolating for beyond those two days as a revolutionary act against stupidity and tyranny. Now compare this to many New Zealanders who religiously took their sacramental booster – they seem to compete with each other to describe the most life and death battle with a rough cold imaginable and love playing “covid victim” to get the self care packages flooding in. It is pitiful and pathetic. The real damage is the psychological harm Ardern, Bloomfield, Hendy, Siouxsie and the media has caused to the people through her Theatre of Fear.

  Sure, you might be OK, but I know people who had to be admitted to hospital because of breathing difficulties stemming from covid. And they weren’t old with many other co-morbitities.
  
  I also know a close relative, just turned 40, extremely fit, who was bed ridden for a week. And he took about 4 weeks to properly recover.
  
  I know the meme on KB is that covid is little more than a common cold, but the level of hospitalisations is such that covid can be quite serious.
  
  I have a good deal more respect for Dr Blomfield and his colleagues than the “medical opinions” on covid of the regular commenters on KB who post on this issue.
  
  I would also note that among the people I know, those with the booster seem to be significantly better off than those who just had two shots.

    Wayne Mapp mind your own business — if you wish to cower away in self isolation on the basis that someone somewhere might have something that results in them suffering something, then that’s your prerogative.
    But if you’re truly consistent with your thinking, then you’ll never emerge from self isolation. The world has moved on.
    
    You’d also do well to look at the roll of psychosomatic factors in severity of symptoms and immune regulation. Continual stress and fear wrecks your immune system like nothing much else. And what have we been fed constantly for the last two years?
    
    Then there is the reality that people’s immune systems have not been given the usual seasonal workout, with the result we now have the spectre of supercolds and super flu. I guarantee in the winter months the deaths will mount.

In NZ there were about 500 adults who died with seasonal flu in 2019 – we didn’t shut down the country, wreck the economy, create a massive backlog of undiagnosed cancers and other untreated conditions, interrupt the education of about a million students, and divert attention from the criminal underbelly now wreaking havoc on many communities.       There were always two classes of citizen in the Government’s Covid response: those whose personal circumstances meant they were comfortable with lockdowns and restrictions and those whose personal circumstances meant that those lockdowns and restrictions were a misery. At the end of it, it was justified on the basis that so long as the former class “felt safe” the latter class could go to hell and suffer.         Official NZ estimates say only 50 out of 500 ‘within 28 days of a positive test’ actually died from covid. Ie it’s less dangerous than a normal flu season. Look over at UK excess death stats while fear-porn pushing media and pearl clutchers are still wailing about omicron apocalypse, masks and boosters (same as NZ) you will see that UK excess deaths are currently well below average. Meanwhile in NZ and australia excess deaths appear to be about 2% above average (ie ~2 a day for NZ) through our omicron wave. That backs up the 50 ‘from’ deaths figure and is entirely unremarkable. Long term it will be impossible to pick out on excess deaths graph as anything other than completely normal variation. See for yourself:

    You might be too young to remember but in 2009 New Zealand experienced a flu pandemic which affected at least 800,000 people. Some 1500 odd people were hospitalised. Some died. However, we didn’t go into lockdown, wear face masks, or introduce vaccine passes or mandates. History is a great teacher if we are willing to learn.

        He is also ineligible to the office of Vice-President (see Amendment XII, which states, “[…]. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States[.]”).

    There was a video floating around a couple of days ago (which I can’t find now) where Obama was holding forth at the White House (WH) and people were gathered around him whilst he was laughing and joking with them. Biden was swanning around like a …….. ………. at a prostitute’s wedding and nobody was paying him any attention, let alone talking to him. At one stage, he even had his hand on Obama’s shoulder and Obama paid him no attention whatsoever.
    Note: This wasn’t whilst Obama was in power, it was some sort of roast for him at the WH with Biden in attendance as POTUS.

      But I wonder if anybody in the Biden Whitehouse had second thoughts that their guy might be overshadowed, given Obama’s status and charisma, not to mention that his ego and known lack of respect for Biden might come to the fore. If so they didn’t have to wait long for their fears to arrive, with Obama starting off with a little “joke” about Biden’s real standing in the Democrat Party and America.

The upcoming budget will be one of the most crucial in recent decades. All budgets are important but as inflation continues to rise this next one orchestrated by Grant Robertson will determine whether he pours petrol on the fire or water.

He has already sent a signal that he intends to have a spend up. That would be catastrophic. It would push the pain level much higher. Double digits will become even harder to avoid and the economy will suffer greatly.

If Robertson knowingly stokes the fire it will confirm his own and this government’s utter failure in the management of the state’s affairs and their disdain of anything other than their narrow, failing ideology around rights and Maori separatism.

  Just an addendum. They are going to need to do something to appease people about the cost of living, food prices especially. I don’t know what they will do but don’t rule out removing GST from food. Also I don’t see them increasing fuel excise back to where it was after the current 3 months reduction is over.

    Removing GST from food is a fallacy.
    “As a GST-registered business, you are able to claim back the GST you have been charged on goods and services used in your taxable activity. The amount of GST you have claimed (input tax) is subtracted from the amount of GST you have charged (output tax) to calculate your tax to pay or GST refund.”
    
    If GST is removed from the retail price charged to customers then there is no Output Tax, only Input Tax. The Input Tax is therefore refunded to the seller.
    
    The selling price of goods to the customer is at the seller’s discretion, therefore the market price can remain the same as when there was GST content.
    This simply results in a larger Gross Profit for the seller.
    
    The customer does not necessarily pay a lower price, even though there is no GST involved.
    
    Therefore this scheme will not work.

      I am absolutely convinced that ‘removing GST from food’ as many on the left call for (MP for Tijuana, Tamati Coffey, The Maori cowboy Waititi etc) will result in little to no actual lowering of food costs paid by NZ consumers.
      
      Rewording your thoughts above – it all boils down to how much of the GST that retailers will not now be liable for will actually pass on to consumers through lower food prices.
      
      My absolute bet is bugger all – and this will be compounded by the fact that it will be very difficult to measure.
      
      Making it even simpler – if the price for a cauli was September last $5 incl GST, should GST on caulis be removed I reckon the price of caulis this September will still be $5 (but now no GST collectable), if not more – and the retailers will pocket the difference.
      
      NZers will have gained nothing except boosting retailer profits.

  They’ve already started the post pandemic spend up e.g. half price fares on public transport (and those in the know are aware that the policy has 6 tenths of SFA impact on PT patronage). Then from 1 July Community Connect comes into force, this gives subsidised PT fares to any beneficiary with a Community Services card.
  
  With those policy mantras you can just watch taxpayer dollars flowing down the drain.

  Exactly. Not one single person in the public service advocating for lockdowns lost a single cent of pay. They say they understand the hardship. Try paying rent on your shop, topping up your employees pay while not being able to trade and then try finding money to pay your mortgage/rent and own living costs. I know many people who had to remortgage their houses for over 100k to pay for this and yet all the government and wage earners could say was that businesses should of been prepared and had a buffer. Clearly anyone who said that has never run a business.
  When the lockdowns came, everyone in politics and education should of been put on the $600 a week wage subsidy. Maybe then we would believe them when they say they understand the hardship, otherwise they are talking out their arse and have no idea. Has NZ ever had a government that is so out of touch with the people? These clowns wonder why they are losing support from SMEs yet if just one of them lived in the real world they would know exactly why. The ignorance is astounding.

      Costco, Fred Meyer, Walmart, Bass Pro, Carrs, Safeway, New Sagaya, Walgreens pharmacy, Dicks, Cabelas, Best Buy. City only has 320000 people.

There needs to be a Royal Commission enquiry into gangs. The wealth being created by those gangs and widely on display for the public surely shows complete corruption across Govt and Police.

A decade ago you typicality had two types of gangs 1) white boys on generally old Harleys and 2) maori boys driving old holdens. Neither had any real money and were generally smashed by the police on a regular basis to keep them in check.

Now we have almost every week on the news very large groups of gangs of all types riding very modern Harley’s that are each over $30K each. In addition all over social media is promotional videos for gangs showing even more very expensive bikes, mountains of cash and flash club rooms with free alcohol.

If you were a poor Māori kid with no education and no real job prospects what would you do. Labour and high ranking Police are actively enabling the gangs to grow massive wealth and grow their ranks and this is just creating bigger future problems for these communities and welfare impacts on taxpayers.

How can the media show a pack of tribesman on Waikato Expressway with in excess of $1M of motorbikes and no go “we need to ask the question what is funding these”

    A caller to talkback a week or so ago was describing how there have been a series of meetings attended by gangs, MBIE, Many policemen, Justice and others at which the gangs were given clear and unequivocal advice to form Trusts with “Charitable purposes” such as drug rehab or education and to but [put] some of the apparently untainted wives in as trustees. Then, they were told, they could apply for ‘proceeds of crime’ money and effectively get their own back. This was described as completing the circle.
    Apparently there is approaching a billion dollars in the pot and available on application.

I remember when

Vaccination of our youth and children for covid has been justified for reasons including carditis.
The justification is that covid is 4X as likely to result in carditis as the vaccination.
There has been no discussion on the possibility of getting carditis from covid after vaccination.
Unless the figures for any possible reduction in carditis from covid infection after vaccination are available, there is no benefit.
In fact, it is possible to argue that vaccination increases the risk by 25%, in an age group that is already suggested to have higher outcomes from vaccination.

  It was always going to take the analysis of real world data for us to get a handle on what is really happening in the covid clown world. The picture is becoming increasingly disturbing. Lack of vaccine efficacy, vaccine damage, the uselessness of masks. All becoming clearer and clearer as the data is released.

Totally true in NZ as it is in the UK and elsewhere. Those covid zealots responsible for destroying the lives of many thousands had no skin in the game themselves. A great read.

Here is a wonderful deconstruction of the lunacy of the last 2 years, multiple hyperlinks to evidence supporting every paragraph and every assertation regarding the fallacies and the negative fallout from policies that were never based on reality.

The author is specifically talking about proposed legislation in California that would stifle free speech, removing licences to practice from doctors (as happened already in NZ) of anyone daring to oppose the “single source of truth”.
But the article is also much more than that. A very large effort has gone into compiling all of the information and references.

Today I drove from my home at Waikanae Beach to a family member’s home in Ngaio ( via Johnsonville, Broadmeadows etc ) in 39 minutes flat.

Worth sharing 🙁

My partner was saying he has it on good authority… that Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson is currently filming in Switzerland alongside a Forensic Team working on the Hunter Biden laptop data.
From what he’s been told, some of the evidence they’ve found is sooo disgusting, analysts working on the project have had to take frequent breaks to put bleach in their eyes.

It will be Headline News next week…stay tuned for updates.

At least 53 people have tested positive for the coronavirus since attending The Gridiron Club and Foundation’s annual dinner last Saturday in Washington, the group’s president confirmed on Friday.

The Gridiron Club dinner, an annual white-tie roast between journalists and presidential administrations, was held at the Renaissance Hotel. But a night of good-natured ribbing has devolved into an outbreak of cases among Washington’s elite, including members of Congress, members of the president’s cabinet and journalists.

About 700 people were at the event, including the 628 guests seated in the ballroom, Gridiron organizers said. Attendees were required to show proof of vaccination but not a negative test result, and face masks were not required during the program.

So one event with 100% ‘vaccinated’ attendees, and 7.5% of them take the pox home.

I know this may sound like a ‘First-World’ problem…but my partner is quite p*ssed off.

Last month, he signed up to a deal with a well known Wine Importer, to take a mixed-dozen every two weeks of their finest Reds from Europe & Australia.
Now for the second time in a row, the French Bordeaux had a cork rather than a stelvin.
In his rush to open them, both times they’ve disintegrated and left floaty-bits in the glass.

Anyone else had this happen?

  If it’s any help, what I do is put a tea-strainer over my glass before he fills it. That captures about 90% of the residue.

    Of course not to be confused with ‘corked’ wine, which (TCA) is a totally different thing

      When I first met my partner, he took me to Antoine’s for dinner. Sent 3 bottles back on our very first date.
      Felt a bit silly with the third one….he hadn’t noticed it was screw-cap.

  Sounds like you’re getting dodgy wine there Mags. In many years of drinking wine I can count on the fingers of one hand the times I’ve had the cork disintegrate.
  
  Probably been stored in less than ideal conditions, not temperature/humidity controlled.
