They are in the process of implementing a treaty that will give the WHO power over all of us, to decide what is a pandemic, when it is a pandemic, and what measures to take to “fix it”. These will include lockdowns, vaccinations, social distancing, masking and all the other fascist measures we witnessed in the last 2 year.
      The will have the power to override democratically elected governments. Mind you, they seem to have already adopted that power. This is just formalising the arrangement.

Listening to local talkback yesterday it was telling the host, who tends to lean a little left, gave Megan Woods a hard time over the budget and pinned her down on dismissing Treasury’s advice over the $350 Inflation Payment for those earning under $70K. No amount of voice raising by Woods put him off, and when she said he needed to ask the finance minister why Labour didn’t heed Treasury’s advice. Brownlee was pure gold, pointing out she is the associate finance minister so would know.
The other issue getting under the skin of the host was the $350 million to merge Radio NZ & TV1 when Pharmac got so little. It made me think, wasn’t the merging of these two entities the undoing of Clare Curran, with her undisclosed meetings with Coral Hirschfeld. It seems Labour have been hell bent on creating a larger ‘left leaning’ mouth piece for their agenda and were never going to let the issue go.
The amount of push back Labour is getting from all quarters over their budget is telling, in that they have really misread the country’s mood (likely arrogance), and the amount they have spent including from future years has only cemented the view they are useless at managing the economy. No number of selective graphs comparing them to Nationals GFC response (they missed adding the Christchurch earthquakes financial response) will help them now, as it is the financial pain today that tax payers are focused on.

  As you say the CHCH the first in 2010, but carried on for some years causing damage every time an aftershock struck above 5 , what you may have forgot is the Blenheim earthquake which cause huge damage to roads SH 1 and buildings in Wellington adding another 20 billion, that earthquake was in 2016 I think

  Also learnt something new (apart from the concept of “Elite Capture”), that of the concept of “Deference Politics”.
  
  Which is quoted as “when people (mostly white) become allies of the oppressed and blindly follow them. He says it flourishes where people don’t have any life experience of the topic, then take direction from those who do. “Deference politics means I’m going to find a person of some particular identity, and whatever that person’s thoughts or opinions or perspectives are, they’re also going to be mine.”
  
  This is exactly what we are seeing in today’s NZ, as the Govt (and the public sector, and the news media etc) in my opinion “appropriate” some (but not all) features of Maoridom that they have selected to be instilled into Kiwis and their way of life.
  
  I think we need more discussion and debate on this topic (of Deference), because whilst there are sometimes some advantages (after all NZ’s foundations were built upon “two peoples” coming together), nowadays it has become weaponised to force change (hand in hand with Cancel Culture to silence those who merely ask questions) and is becoming increasingly divisive and leading to corrupt practices, and very scary futures for the harmony of the “two peoples” as envisaged back in 1840.

Whoops, my bad. I just checked Bob’s cartoon again and it’s actually even better than I thought. The “expert” in the image has a clipboard in his hand with the proposed WHO “pandemic” treaty data in it. Something that should be front and centre in the media but is barely mentioned. Also something that needs to be stopped.
The whole organisation needs either disbanded or completely gutted and rebuilt. As it is currently it is not only not fit for purpose, it is a danger to every person on the planet.

      Agree, instead of sitting around in their NY HQ comfy chairs being paid to do SFA, the UN should be ensuring the safety of merchant shipping transiting to and from Ukraine’s ports (not there are many left), and should the Russians take on the convoy then retaliation should be allowed (including the attackers logistics i.e. wherever they re-arm/re-fuel etc).
      
      For crying out loud this ain’t rocket science, otherwise what are the UN enabling, the death, starvation and economic collapse for hundreds of million people? Talk about watching a slow motion train wreck in progress!
      
      Sure get it that Russia has veto at the UNSC, but if a UNSC member is endangering the world’s food supply then drastic measures must be taken.

  On my perambulations yesterday , noticed many pupils heading orf to skool in pink .
  
  It would be the brave one who turned up sans signal virtuing outfits as dictated by the school principal /kommissar of wokery . Couldn’t help but wonder if said pupil would be subjected to any officially sanctioned “bullying” if they made the decision to stand up for personal rights and autonomy . And of course that would apply to any work place too.

South Africa is going through merry hell with electricity. One of the problems they are having is that the wokesters are pushing for “green energy” which really can’t solve their problems. There is one though that is looking interesting: CSP.

CSP is concentrated solar power. This is not photovoltaic panels, but involves capturing the sun’s heat and then using that to generate steam to spin a turbine.

When you design an electrical system it has to provide for the peak usage. The average is not that important. The peak is. For South Africa (and likely for NZ too – I have not checked), peak usage is in winter in the evenings – around 6:30 pm.

By then the sun has stopped shining (it has pretty much lost its strength by 4pm in winter) so PV is no longer working. The wind also tends to drop off. CSP has stopped gathering energy too.

But CSP has an ace up its sleeve. It can store the heat and time shift it. Sure, there is some loss, but it is still highly efficient out to 6 hours after sunset.

This makes it pretty good for addressing the usage peak that is an hour or two after sunset.

Yes, you could use PVs to charge batteries, then discharge the batteries but this is extremely wasteful. The charging efficiency of batteries is maybe 85% and the discharge/generation maybe the same – meaning around 30% of the power is lost in inefficiency with what is already an extremely inefficient system . On top of that cost of battery maintenance is huge.

So is CSP the magic bullet? Unfortunately not. It takes up too much space and is still prone to the weather. The largest plant in the world, Noor 1 in Morocco, is hundreds of acres and achieves only 160MW peak (an average of 42MW). That is not even one tenth of the capacity of a single coal generator. And that is placed in the most perfect location in the world.

Even Morocco, the country with the best sunshine in the world, still uses over 80% carbon-based electricity.

  The whole western world including NZ definitely is very polarised but the fault with that lies in both the left and right.
  The left has gravitated towards identity politics and manufactured outrage at every turn and the right has gravitated towards conspiratorial thinking and admiration for anti democratic strong man type rule.
  If people want to reject what I’m saying then that’s fine but this blog itself is testament to more radical positions with alot of the fringe nonsense that is now a staple on here barely getting a look in 10 years ago.

I went to the Warehouse yesterday hoping to buy a nail file. Not finding one, I asked an assistant. “We don’t sell them,” was the reply. “They could be used to stab someone.”
I went back today to check around the rest of the store. In the garden section there were secateurs and sharp pointed hand forks. In the workshop section, plenty of screwdrivers. In the fishing section, a choice of wicked looking fishing knives. In the homeware section, some very sharp, stabby kitchen knives. Most of the above had no protective sleeves. I checked with one of duty managers, and he assured me that that what I was told yesterday was indeed the policy.
I never realised that a nail file was by comparison such a dangerous implement. (Incidentally, I bought one at the $3 shop next door. It was so heavily encased in tensile-strengthened plastic, I needed a very sharp object to extract the file.)

  Yes me. I was tipped over the edge onto anxiety by the Budget. Pharmac got $191 million for new drugs. Seriously I would not begrudge them progressively getting a 50 percent increase in funding.
  
  Then I saw $327 million to merge TVNZ and RNZ. And $100 million plus for a Maori climate-change plan.
  
  Does Treasury advise that such spending is criminally stupid? Can we see that advice? Or do they just now add up the numbers?

    If this repeats for the same time period the TVNZ/RNZ $327 million refers to, then Pharmac will receive an extra $573 million
    
    Pharmac has an additional $191 million. My understanding is that they will get at least the total amount of their budget next year and the year after as they get this year.
    
    Pharmac total $573 million extra for 3 years.
    
    TVNZ/RNZ total $207 million extra for 3 years
    
    ($327 million minus the RNZ $120 million (for 3 years currently paid from NZ On Air)).
    
    Not saying I like or dislike any of this – just another way of looking at the figures

  Unsurprisingly Te Punaha Matatini missed one of “Aotearoa’s” greatest disinformation proponents …. Jacinda Ardern, Grant Robertson and most of the Labour Party.
  
  And in many instances the Media (when journalists give us their “opinions” as fact, which nowadays is much of the time. Examples? RNZ’s Morning Report, the 6pm TV news, and the media narrative in general).
  
  And behind the scenes stuff that readers/viewers/listeners won’t realise, which is the Editorial stance which guides the journos.
  
  And let’s not forget it was a journo herself who exposed the fact that Labour were (are) having weekly “news agenda” meetings with media editors across the “motu” (not some conspiracy theorist)!
  
  Simon Bridges mentioned some of this in his valedictory speech “But if the government of the time is giving you your best talking points every single day you come to this place, maybe you’ve got the balance wrong.

I heard an ad on the radio encouraging us all to learn NZ sign language as it’s our third official language. I hope RNZ takes this seriously and broadcasts Morning Report in it. It would definitely improve the show and address any accusations of hopeless leftists bias levelled at it once and for all.

The evidence for this is, first she uses what people call “word soup” (to talk and talk about something else other than the question), but she now is regularly seen practicing “wavey arm soup” (in which she flaps her arms around very fast and all over the place, so that sign interpreters have trouble keeping up with their translations)!

There was some criticism that the US 2020 election ballot fraud investigation by “True the Vote” and described in “2000 Mules” documentary didn’t show any of the 2000+ mules doing repeated visits to drop off illegal votes. All governments waste tax payers money on their pet topics. This lot are gold medal winners. Its not been commented on a lot but a further $200 million on another review of moving Auckland port to the Manukau. This is scandalous. This was rejected out of hand before but here we go again. Presumably the same consultants eating at the trough. The idea of moving it to Whangarei is questionable but the Manukau. Presumably its because the Minister of Transport and Roskill MP would like to see big ships pass his lounge window instead of just playing with his plastic tug in the bath.

  Apparently the woke (in the USA at least) in effect appear to be a pushing a coercive type of “gender-fluidity” conversion therapy on young kids. Never mind the mounting evidence that there are many cases of buyers regret in later life (especially after often irreversible sterilisation from puberty blockers and from essentially irreversible life changing gender reassignment surgery).

  Slight correction; The polls close at 8pm NZT for the eastern states (where the vast majority of the Aus population live). The other states close up to 2 hours later due to the various time differences heading west across the country.
