My Facebook feed yesterday contained this article from news hub. Apparently the new Maori health authority is not enough. Maori people need equity right across the health system which I think means more Maori control of the new health system of Aotearoa?

This shows me a number of things. First of all that identity politics is never satisfied. The new Maori Health Authority is only just being established and already it is not enough. That shows us that appeasement does not work. Radical Maori activists will never ever be appeased. They can only be resisted.

Secondly it shows me the complete sell-out of the news media to radical neo-Marxist thinking. The idea that Maori people are oppressed. The idea that the health system is racist. The idea that if Maori people live on average six years less than white people this is incontrovertible evidence of systemic racism.
Where to begin? First of all when James Cook discovered New Zealand in 1769 the average life expectancy of a Maori person was 30 years. Cook met some very old Maori men who were actually only about 40 years old!
Secondly do people have no responsibility for their actions anymore? For example the people who are most likely to smoke cigarettes are Maori women. That would account for a lot of the discrepancy right there. Also you would have to look at factors like diet and exercise before you automatically concluded that our dedicated health professionals are racists!

There appears to be an abandonment of reason in the thinking of the middle-class radicals that run our country now. The idea that Maori people lived in a state of simple paradise and by tapping into ancient Maori knowledge things will get better for Maori people. Actually the Maori people lived in a very basic tribal society where life was often brutal and short. Chronic warfare and cannibalism were features of Maori society. The idea that returning to pre-Christian pagan ideas including Maori creation myths will help Maori health is ludicrous. The Maori prophet Ratana warned his people against a return to pagan tribal beliefs.

Lastly I would add that a separate Maori Health Authority on its face is racist. Perhaps it would be helpful if you imagine this. A number of white doctors and nurses got together and established a local health clinic for white people only. How long would it take for the entire weight of liberal opinion to condemn them as hopeless racists?

One can only hope that the opposition upon retaking the government benches will have this whole hopelessly flawed health edifice gone by lunchtime.

  We need working class Maori and ones with reach to call it out but unfortunately even our slightly balanced media pundits are group think and self preservation orientated first and foremost. Mike King threw a jab at Labour on radio a month or so ago and Mark Richardson with one to Free (Stuff for me) Willy regarding funding for the higher classified race regarding homelessness. We are pretty far gone. People that don’t see your assessment here as 100% accurate are seriously maladjusted or willfully dishonest.

        Only person I’ve seen told to leave was abusive to the receptionist so deregistered from the gp and kicked out. I’ve seen people turn up for an appointment on the wrong day and he’ll still see them then rather than send them away until their appointment.
        
        Maori are not denied medical treatment in the hospitals or gp, it’s a myth to push for separatist Healthcare.

  Last night, I turned over to TV3 News as didn’t want to watch John Campbell’s propaganda on youth crime. Once on TV3 there was a story about Morocco’s world cup game which seemed to see the victory as being about a free Palestine. Then followed the story about Maori Health Care. After a couple of minutes of racist this, racist that,racism, racist, racism I turned off my TV.

  On the latest of my infrequent visits to Auckland, I discovered that in my absence, Maori has replaced English as the lead language on all signs at the airport, on street signs and for announcements on the trains. It seems the idea is that Maori should be able to get around without knowing English at all and we pakeha have to adapt and learn the language to enable this to happen. If it encourages Maori parents to rely on only being able to speak maori -send their kids to total immersion Maori language schools for example they are condeming the new generation to a poverty of opportunity. No one else in the world will speak Maori. Do they know that? Do the officials at AT realize that they are creating a massive impediment but think its an own goal and would serve them right?

    The result in Hamilton West was entirely predictable no matter how much the National Party tried to make out they were ‘underdogs’.

      I doubt any of that is true. Certainly ACT could be expected to poll well when MMP “Electorate vote Nat party vote ACT” did not apply. And ACT voters and some Nat voters could be expected to have been motivated by this Government’s extremism. But equally Mahuta’s heartland should have been supporting her for Labour as well as the faithful indignant at Sharma’s “treachery”. Likewise Sharma should have siphoned off some Nat votes.

Just a question on my perceived view on Media Bias. Would any one have the same view as me that if Labour had won the latest Bi- Election in Hamilton West on Saturday the News would be headlines in or on most media sites in New Zealand today.
Even our Prime Minister has not been interviewed on Nationals win and I am pretty sure that there was only one comment from her on the result and that was a half a dozen words of congratulations to the National Candidate.

About elite athletes taking a case to be employees of High Performance Sport NZ rather than self employed contractors. A review panel noted that the employee model may be more expensive. No shit.

If the employment law case is won, will the athletes become public servants? If not, why not? Or do they want to be able to pick and choose employment conditions?

Last week Susan Hornsby-Geluk ran through some of the implications of being an employee.

“While the athletes may achieve better pay and conditions as a result of being deemed to be employees, they may need to be prepared to give up some independence and freedoms.”

Some – actually potentially a lot according to her opinion piece.

And while employees have protection relating to termination of employment, employers can choose who they take on, within the law. So if the funding is not increased as then required, guess what happens next.

    Yet you have the gall to talk about things you don’t know and begrudging our Olympic athletes , who in the case of my son and cousin get up at 5.30 . Train for 2 hours at 7 come home and eat and sleep , back to the gym at 12 for 2 hours and then another 2-3 hours of training after that.
    I can guarantee you that you wouldn’t be able to cope with more than 5-10 minutes of any of this and you’d be whinging for days of the aches and pains.
    Do you think the All Blacks should play for free do you?
    Well they get $200k plus . Our Olympic athletes start with no pay and aside from the top ones might get $30-50 k after winning medals.
    Perhaps you’ve just got a thing against achievers. Sad really

      You are wrong. I don’t watch people doing these things.
      
      Why should they be paid for this? What value do they add to society other than providing a bit of entertainment?
      
      If people want to chip in and sponsor them, fine, but the taxpayer should not have to do so.

      No, not at all. I am an extremely high achiever in my fields of expertise. I have over 10 patents. I earn a reasonable amount. Billions of people use the software I have written. I’ve given away software that is used by over a billion people every day.
      
      The difference: I don’t demand that the taxpayer fund my contribution to society. Not even at minimum wage.
      
      I am not at all opposed to high achievement – including high achievement in all fields: science, sport, art, advertising etc.
      
      But there is no need for high achievers to such off the taxpayer.

        herb1: I know it might shock you, but the taxpayer is not the only source of revenue. It is possible to create a viable business that does not depend on the taxpayer being extorted at gunpoint.
        
        If the taxpayer does fund me, it is extremely indirectly, and it is pretty much never the NZ taxpayer.
        
        I mostly consult for a few companies (almost all of them overseas). Some of them sell products/services to companies who then sell their products to governments. For example I sell services to a company that sells services to companies building planes, missiles and satellites which are sold to various governments.
        
        But I do pay a hell of a lot of tax.

  The Athletes have lost their minds. If they want more money move to professional sports. Go to the US and compete there. Enjoy being treated like meat as you are traded at will between teams (watched Moneyball in the weekend).
  
  Sports NZ was designed to provide assistance to atheletes not as an employer. If you dont like it you cn go back to the old days, find your own coach and hunt for sponsors.

  Wonder if they’ve really thought through who will get the greater benefit. Not quiet the same but can think of a number of instances where some “employee” has got $1 as their reward for a patent from which the employer made $$$$$$$$$.

      Every problem in modern Kenya is down to the period of British rule from 1888 to 1963.
      
      Did you see the docco about the tens of thousands of British sailors and soldiers who gave their lives and health (many ended up with lifelong malaria) routing out slavery etc in East Africa (inc. Kenya)?
      
      Nope, there probably isn’t a docco like that because it doesn’t fit with the White Guilt narrative!
      
      To call Mau Mau “anti-colonialist” is like calling the ANC in South Africa “anti racist”. That’s a stretch. The Mau Mau killed anyone that stood in the way of their quest for power including civilians of all hues.
      
      Of course now they have whitewashed history and the Mau Mau (like the ANC) are liberation heroes.
      
      I will grant them something though: the Mau Mau were not as bad as the ANC and actually fought against the people they were claiming to fight against.

        I’m a bit over the hill for moving. If I was 10 years younger I’d be out of here.
        
        In two months’ time I will have spent more than half my life in NZ. Can I call myself a Kiwi yet? Or am I still a foreigner in your eyes?
        
        I think it a bit funny (in the non-ha-ha sort of way) that a large part of why I chose to move to NZ over 30 years ago was because I thought it had sorted its race problems out many years ago. After all, NZ gave Maori the vote before it gave whites the vote!
        
        I was a bit shocked to discover that there were racist organisations like Maori Wardens when I arrived, but thought that was just a tiny artefact that would go with time.
        
        How wrong I was. NZ of today appears to be heading down the same road. It is way more racist and divisive than the NZ I moved to 30 years ago.

        Not at all, Jack5. People move countries for many reasons and I’m sure you could appreciate that. New Zealand ranks very high on most people’s idea of a great place to live, but it has a relatively small population spread over a large area and is quite remote from other parts of the world. For those wishing to move to Australia, I say “go for it”. We could do with a lot less people here, especially the ones who don’t appreciate how lucky we are.

  I went to a local community Christmas party during the weekend.
  The adults (old and not so old) talked a bit about “this dreadful government we have” and the kids just played – same as they did 30-40 years ago.
  It was a sunny day – same as it was 30-40 years ago.
  Santa came – same.

  BBQ – same.

    Gravel: Re lolly scrambles…they used to be a feature of Christmas parades – until some wankers decided that children may be injured by floats and fire engines traveling at 3kmh. Now the lollies are just handed out at the side of the road, taking half the fun out of it.

      I remember taking my kids to a community party where a helicopter came and hovered over the gathering. Helicopters were not often seen close-up back then. Kids covered their ears but soon recovered when they were showered with lollies. They had a great time for few minutes and then the helicopter left with a suitable amount of noise and wind rush.
      Probably wouldn’t be allowed now, though.

      I never gave much thought to lolly scrambles until I was watching one with my father once when he would have been about seventy.
      He told me he hated them, which was strong language for Dad.
      Dad was a POW during the war.
      He said he’d seen Kiwi soldiers so hungry they’d fight over scrapes of food. His mates reduced to the level of animals.

    Im sure the conference in its air conditioned room with tea and coffee did a lot to save the planet. Ask your collegue how he got to work, how he powers his home, when his last overseas trip was, how many people travel in his car at a time, what the car to people ration in his house is etc

    I say this as often people lecture me about the environment and I sit and laugh internally. I bike to work every day, we have solar, one 1.2l car between a family of 4. I gaurantee I produce less emisions then 95% of the do gooders. FYI I have all this because it makes sense financially and I am a tight arse 🙂

    The teen on the radio a few weeks ago talking about needing a govt agency to determine if a flight is ‘necessary’. Asked if a holiday in Fiji would count, she said absolutely not. Then asked when she last flew and it turns out about a mth ago…. to Fiji for a holiday.
    
    I am sure that when your daughter meets the right guy she will have children.

      It always used to be that young women should have their children while young – not long after the onset of menstrual cycling and able to identify with their growing children. Being a mother meant being a ‘housewife’ as well.
      Their job was to raise the next generation, set them safely along life’s pathway, and when that was done, they could pick their activities.
      Same for Fathers -provide the wherewithal for the family to raise its kids and take pride in their achievements.
      The role of some women has changed. They are well-educated, know their value in the workplace, and put their careers before motherhood. By the time they are 35 and approaching middle age they panic at the thought of missing out. Poor things.

  I was watching/listening to a Green nutter on ABC yesterday who was going on and on about Australians who will have to stop using dirty gas for cooking and start using renewables. He must have used the term ‘dirty gas’ a dozen times in a short space of time.
  I thought to myself what appliances does he have in his kitchen that run on wind and solar that give instant hot water and heat for cooking?

    Yes, I find it off putting when they shoe-horn in an African lady in waiting into the court of Queen Elizabeth and there are plenty of examples like this in recent years. When it is a historical piece I tend to switch off at this, when the story has to manipulative in some progressive message.
    Funny how it only works one way though – I can’t see race swapping being welcomed as ‘representation’ when it comes to the story of Shaka Zulu or Hone Heke. That would not just be inauthentic, it would be seen as offensive.
    It is sad that identity politics means people can only enjoy a movie is they see ‘themselves’ in it.
    It has never occurred to me when enjoying watching Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy or Idris Elba etc. or even a Chinese-language film, that I should not enjoy or relate to the story because my own race is not represented or forefront.
    Let’s face it. ‘Diversity’ and ‘representation’ just means replacing of white males. Nothing else.
    Case in point, a post above (tongue in cheek) saying ‘Africa needs more white people’.

  According to the BBC, they ran a study of 2000 kids aged 8 to 16:
  
  * 80% said it was important, 35% said very important.
  * 20% of kids have had a bad dream about climate change.
  * 40% don’t trust adults (ie. their parents) to solve the issues.
  * 66% say the government is not listening to their views.
  
  So it looks like things are working the way they want.

      Uhuh. And yet scientists can’t tell me the weather accurately 48 hours out from the day.
      
      I don’t agree that the projected sea level rise, or a few degrees global temperature rise alone is catastrophic in any case. Some will suffer and others will benefit. Look over the life of the planet and the sea has been massively higher and lower than any of the current worst-case scenarios.
      We are in an interglacial period now, and who is to say what the Earth is meant to be around shorelines or temperature?
      We will survive for sure.
      
      And in any case, I surely don’t see the answer to any of this as increasing of taxes and socialism.
      It is something of a modern millennial religious movement being hijacked by Marxist and elites.

        That’s a truly 1970’s solution. The birth rates in those places are already falling rapidly as they develop their economies, just as happened in parts of Asia two generations ago. Free contraception wouldn’t make as big an impact now as the simple reduction of needing kids to work and support aging parents, as well as not needing to breed as much because the kids are not dying as fast. History repeating itself as Adrian Berry pointed out back in 1975 with his little book The Next Ten Thousand Years, where he took direct – and as it turned out – accurate shots at the population doomsters of the day like Erlich and the Paddock Brothers.
        
        We’ve known for twenty years now that the global population would top out at about 9 billion by 2050 and the closer we get to that year the more accurate that prediction appears. Hell, the Chinese alone are looking at a population drop of a few hundred million by then. Africa will hit that situation around 2070 because they’re lagging – which is why they’re still growing.
        
        As far as they’re concerned their still-growing population will need feeding, so economic development is their best chance and looking at GDP and nutritional growth they’re probably going to be okay (assuming Western dickheads don’t try to screw their energy and farming industries).

  Children need to be taught scepticism. Teachers of my generation had been through WW2 and felt first-hand the damage lying politicians in Germany, Italy, Russia and Japan had caused. Then my generation revolted against the Vietnam war and atmospheric nuclear bomb testing. But since then nothing has come close to home to allow reality to stir rebellion. Few people are involved in making things. Most just talk and sell each other things other people have made. So they think talking is reality and are suckers for anything talked about. Few study the STEM subjects that interact directly with reality. The big money is in managing and controlling other people. So climate change hysteria fits neatly into this environment. Used by some for profit and others for control while the mass just swallow it whole as they once did religion. Putin has forced a collision with reality in Europe. Ripples have reached our shores but it will take more to rescue this country from its collective delusions.

Green Party’s Eugenie Sage told Tova O’Brien on Monday morning she didn’t “sneak” the entrenchment clause through at all, saying she had flagged support for entrenchment in a press release more than a year ago.
“They provide that you can entrench a provision provided it’s passed by the same majority of Parliament as in the entrenchment clause,” she said.
Sage added Minister Nanaia Mahuta knew about the entrenchment as well, saying the Greens have had negotiations with the Minister’s office in the past.
“It was in our select committee report when the bill was reported back from the Finance and Expenditure Select Committee, that we disagreed with the views of officials and supported our 60 percent entrenchment.

    I’m not so worried. I have a 20 year old Toyota. It has a high compression engine with a 7,800 RPM red line. It requires 98 octane fuel from BP or NPD. It has always come from Singapore – Marsden Point never made it.
    
    TBH if your car manual says you can use 91 you are just throwing away your money by using 95. The ONLY reason to use 95 or 98 octane fuel is to prevent premature detonation in high compression engines.

    The fuel companies did that with petrol from Singapore. Older engines had to have an additive in the petrol to stoop all rubber type parts going soft. Happened to the Fergie 25 at work. What a shit of a job to fix that was.

When the Prime Minister says that the Government’s priority for next year is “making sure that the economy is our priority”, doesn’t that give away a lot? If she had said “making the economy our priority”, it suggests a united Government with a focus on the most important issue facing the country. But as she has phrased it, it sounds an awful lot more like they are having to focus on ensuring that everyone in Government agrees that the economy is in fact the priority. In other words, they are more focussed on agreeing amongst themselves than actually doing anything.

  B) Govt debt is growing by $86M each day. They have created an spending engine that grows debt by $86M each day. And they have bugger all results to show for it.

The 10 new policies released on December 7 did not have any mention of “dynamic zeroing”, which seems to be a sign of relaxing policies. However, it is difficult for local officials to guess what’s on the minds of the higher-ups, and they are afraid of losing their positions if they make a mistake, thus creating a confusing process during the implementation. In addition, under the CCP propaganda, the majority of the public is afraid of COVID-19, so we’ll have to wait and see how they adapt after being completely liberalized. Jacinda Ardern – Authoritarian or Tyrant?

This is the language of authoritarianism although it is expressed in more mellow terms. Given Ms. Ardern’s communication credentials she is able to make authoritarianism look acceptable. But it is, nevertheless, typical of the mindset of the tyrant.

Ms. Ardern is possessed of a high sense of the righteousness of her cause. She does not debate ideas. She rejects them or refutes the premises of opposition without engaging in debate. She therefore avoids confronting the uncomfortable reality that she may be wrong. And by rejecting and refuting she adopts an air of superiority that views dissent as evil and, because it has become “weaponized” it is too dangerous to allow.

  The police reported that one of the houses appeared to have been a mistake, the shooters got the wrong house. The subtle message here is that the police know which house should have been the target. My assumption is that the shootings are gang related (gangs shooting at each others houses).
  
  Pity reporting is reduced to the point where you have to read between the lines to determine what might really be happening. Obviously we are not allowed to know when gang crime occurs.

Again, it was all predicted. Whereas everything predicted by the “chosen experts” turned out to be utter bullshit.

No surprises here, the only surprise is that so many people still believe the shit they were told by Ardern and co. Facing up to the truth can be difficult, but the thing is, it will still be the truth, no matter how deep a hole people dig to bury their head in.

Like most humans. And he was working for a President and administration who didn’t listen to or follow the science.

        Manslaughter is a serious charge, so it would need to be backed up with serious evidence. And I have never seen anything like the evidence that would be needed to indict, let alone convict, Fauci of manslaughter.
        
        I do remember Scott Atlas, and how Trump brought him into the US Covid response. Atlas is a radiologist, specialising in the brain. He’s not an infectious diseases guy and he’s not a public health guy, so I’m a bit leery of what he’d say. But I hadn’t realised he’d written a book, and summer is coming so I may add that to the reading list.
        
        Interestingly, the rumour is that Trump came to know Scott Atlas because Trump (or WH doctors) consulted him on Trump having dementia. Atlas is a world-leading expert on using MRI to diagnose neurological conditions like dementia and Parkinsons. He literally wrote the textbook on that stuff.

        Fauci, like Baker here, was the loudest “expert” telling the government what to do. This will be Ardern’s get out of jail card which she will use because she is a snakeoil seller of the worst kind. “I was following the advice of the “experts.”

        I’m not a lawyer, so I don’t really know what the appropriate charges should be, but he is responsible for the early deaths of many, many thousands of people in the US and probably also around the world.
        This is apparently US law and would be a minimum charge I would have thought.

        Involuntary manslaughter is the killing of another person without the intent to kill, but where the person’s death occurs as a result of the negligent or reckless actions of the defendant
        
        He is responsible for the creation of the virus and he is responsible for pushing the experimental “vaccine” using coercion, psychological manipulation, bribery, mandates etc etc. Like Baker, he is the most visible driver of the insane npis that did NOTHING to protect people, instead it destroyed lives, destroyed businesses, destroyed relationships, physically and mentally injured people, particularly children. And these actions killed people. Far more than the virus would ever have managed on its own.
        
        These are facts that are emerging more rapidly every week and will become crystal clear as time goes on. There has been a massive campaign to shut down alternative voices, to gaslight, to manipulate and to propagandise, but it won’t stop the truth emerging.
        At some point, a majority of people are going to realise the extent of the lie that has been imposed and the gravity of what has been done. They will rightly demand justice be served on those responsible.

Here’s a second hand clinker dinghy, painted white and then some twirls on it. Probably not even marine grade paint. You’d be really lucky to get $2k for it on trademe in the boating section. But no, get some posers to call it art and suddenly it is worth tens of thousands and needs a plinth in a multi-million dollar a year gallery!

C’mon bullshit. The major creativity seems to be seeing what you can get away with.

  1. Here’s a lesson never to put Donna Miles in charge of anything – she clearly demonstrates here that she has no ability to prioritise whatsoever – ie the ability to distinguish between ‘must haves’ and ‘nice to haves’.
  
  2. Art has not only survived it has in fact flourished for thousands of years within the private domain. Governments taking money from families and giving it to artists and art institutions is a new thing.
  
  3. If, as Miles claims, art is so valued, nay, so essential to human life, then I’m sure people will be prepared to pay for it. They’ll prioritise and sacrifice all sorts of things to have it and see it and experience it.
  
  If it is true, as she unwittingly claims, that art will die without taxpayer subsidy then that sort of defeats her argument doesn’t it!
  
  4. I’ve heard that 90%+ of the Auckland Art Gallery’s collection is never displayed, the public can never see it, and the vast majority of it is of foreign artists with no NZ, Maori or Pacific connection whatsoever.
  
  What is the point of tying up hundreds of millions of dollars to do that! And 122 permanent staff!

Didn’t win it, but if memory serves me correctly, she sold it for a couple of million quid. Equally as stupid was Martin Boyce’s 2011 effort “Perforated and Porous”. A bloody wonky square rubbish bin. And he won it, getting 25k pounds. The judges claimed it was “pioneering” and displayed “a new sense of poetry”. All wankers.

  As for clinker dinghies, I knew an old boat builder in Devonport who used to collect kauri wall linings scavenged from demolished villas, tie bundles under the wharf to soften them for a few months and then make dinghies out of them. Now that is art.

  The arguments about taxpayer funding for art and sport seem to me very similar. Both are essentially entertainment. The justification for taxpayer funding is that these “higher” forms of the entertainment arts would not survive without it. But surely that is an admission that most people don’t think it is worth paying for?
  
  If taxpayers are to fund performing or visual arts or sport, it should be at the foundation level – teaching skills to school children and probably as therapy for people with physical injuries, mental illnesses or in prison (as more appropriate emotional outlets than violence). That would benefit a larger group of people and, perhaps, eventually build a paying audience for the “higher” forms.

Was talking to a number of couples at a party in the weekend all successful STEM graduates with teenage kids in decile 1 schools, even leaving aside parental pride/boasting/blinkers intelligence heritability means that on average their kids will be well above mean student in terms of potential. But here’s the scary thing: All of their kids were having to get maths tutoring because the maths teachers (even in sought-after decile 1 schools!) are so useless

Yet another area where govt is failing massively.

Libertarians are right

Stuff have an article from the Sunday Times in London about the Argentina/Netherlands game which got nasty. It’s quite racist as it blames only Argentina and ignores the large amount of stuff done by the Dutch.

The best part is where it says (paraphrased):
“Why do the Argentinians care so much?
Because they do OK. It doesn’t matter where it’s played.”

Stuff edited the article because originally it said the following:
“Why do the Argentinians care so much?

“One thing I know about the Argentinians is that a vast gulf exists between their presumption – elsewhere in Latin America they are seen as insufferably arrogant – and the little they have achieved as a nation despite a glut of natural resources and a highly educated population.

As a culture they have failed, and deep down they know it.”

It doesn’t matter where it’s played.”

How did that article get printed in the first place? That was horrendously racist and they’ve just covered it up and pretended it didn’t happen.

    I know the word “racist” gets thrown around a lot, but I’m totally willing to use it when the author is explicitly claiming an entire group of people are arrogant and their culture is a total failure (my quote above was a direct quote of part of his attack). Did you read this full version or the edited version?
    He moved to Argentina with his Dad who worked at the UK Embassy and was there in the lead up to the Falklands crisis.

    What is surprising to see in the article was a life-long Labour supporter abandoning ship.

Another day and another gut wrenching story.

The wife of a man brutally beaten by a group of drag racers fears their four children may never have their dad back as they knew him due to the extent of brain damage he may have suffered.

Mark MacLean was viciously attacked on Friday night on the driveway of his home on the corner of Falls Rd and Hudson Rd in Warkworth, north Auckland around 11.30pm. He is now in hospital in an induced coma and in a critical but stable condition.

His wife Dereda Lipsey-Maclean said he had earlier that night been in a verbal and physical fight with someone after drag racers started doing burnouts outside their home. All the cars in the area left and she told Mark to go for a walk to cool off after the dispute.

The next thing Dereda heard was one of her children screaming that there had been another fight.

    The problem with the “go softly” approach is that it leads to more police work in some ways and less in others:
    * More because the criminal scum don’t get the message, so they keep offending and there are more callouts.
    * Less because the public lose confidence in the cops so give up and stop calling them.
    
    Take for example the case that BY told us of last week….
    
    The criminal scum threatened BY’s KO-case manager friend, so the next day she has to go again – escorted by a cop.
    
    What does that really help?
    
    Instead, if the criminal scum was charged with threatening, it would be a bit more paperwork, once. Hopefully the message would get through and the cops don’t have to be called out as much.
    
    I suppose though that even if the cops did their job, the dudges would drop the ball – wasting everyone’s time.

I see there are some people in Ashburton whinging that the council hasn’t made them a perfect disc-golf course.

It makes me wonder: what happened to the old way of doing things? Have a working bee!

People just don’t seem to do things for themselves. Just expect the council/government to do it, then wonder why their rates/taxes go up!

Smaller country towns, and rural type organisations, still seem to be a bit better at this.

I can’t bring myself to watch the Cindy Show, but I am still a bit curious as to how the Green List for more immigration workers works.

What we really need is a clear, and fast, path to permanent residence and then citizenship for high quality individuals.

It’s one thing treating fruit pickers and waiters with zero alternatives poorly – they will come anyway – and the bros on the couch could replace them.

But you can’t do that with top-shelf people like engineers, medical staff and such. There is an international shortage of them and they have options. Bugger them around and they’ll go somewhere else.

  I worked for a firm that made trailers, 49 years of making trailers, but my other experience goes from reconditioning short block motors, setting toe and heal in differentials, recon auto gearboxes, then over to workshop machinery.
  Set up new tools in a 135 ton press brake, setting new blades in a hydraulic metalworker. Then there is electrics. I wire 3 phase stuff; I understand what is needed.
  Never mind, I wish I was 40.

Police are seeking help to find a 10-year-old boy who went missing in Hamilton on Monday afternoon.

Kelsey was last seen near Carlson Crescent in the suburb of Silverdale at about 4:40pm today, and both Waikato Police and Kelsey’s parents have concerns for his well-being.

I am curious: when did NZ become so anti high quality immigrants?

When I applied to move to NZ in 1992, there was a points system. Make it over the points threshold (easy for a 30 year old with a STEM degree) and you get a Permanent Residence Visa. The second the immigration wallah stamped my passport I was a Permanent Resident of NZ!

Somewhere between then and a few years back it turned into a shitshow where people seem to be actively discouraged from coming to NZ. Clueless.

If you want to attract the best, then you have to roll out the red carpet (even if it has a few moth holes in it). You can’t treat people like scum and make them line up at the tradesmen’s entrance.

I’m not saying engineers are better than fruit pickers, but the reality needs to be understood – engineers have more options. If you don’ show them some leg they won’t be attracted.

    That’s a good summary of NZ’s poorly designed immigration strategy, Milky. ✔️
    
    A large portion of “business immigrants” attracted proved to be:
    
    – middle-size entrepreneurs who had reached the enjoyment and relaxation stage of life; or
    
    – small business folk using restaurants, convenience stores and the like to negotiate business-visa entry entry.
    
    Most of the highly educated technical and engineering people sought proved to be folk using the student-visa racket to gain entry. Overwhelmingly, they became anything but tech workers.
    
    The people we need, such as doctors, nurses, maths teachers, techies, engineers, super-ambitious entrepreneurs, when they are prepared to take relaxed life style in return for lower wages, are scared off by our immigration bureaucracy.
    
    So we have put pressure on our infrastructure – such as the health, education and transport systems – without a fabled economic transformation.
    
    Regardless, most economic miracles come from within: e.g. Lee Kuan Yew’s Singapore, colonial Hong Kong, rebuilt Japan and Germany, China, and Vietnam.

      I’m not very convinced by the low quality immigrant story. First, we certainly took in a lot of well qualified South Africans. Second, the Indian and Chinese even when not qualified professionals are hard working, ambitious and value education for their children who do well. Third, productivity has been impacted by growth in bureaucracy, falling education standards, increasing regulation, excessive property prices and higher taxes.

        Lower taxes are a good idea, but also reform within the tax system would help. A proper capital gains tax or property tax that most developed countries have should allow lower company tax, provided the income wasn’t hijacked for Government spendng.
        
        Reform of charities exemptions would also help. Other tribes are following Ngai Tahu into the company-tax free group charities registration for businesses. Ngai Tahu followed the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which runs its Sanitarium Health Food Company as a registered charity.

So we now have plastic particles raining from the skies over Auckland, sewage in the sea water there, pollution in most rivers and streams around the country apparently, a climate crisis and out of control crime around New Zealand. With all those environmental and social issues why would anyone want to come here, especially nurses and other medical staff, better to go to Australia which doesn’t have those issues it seems.

Ardern said today the message to nurses
everywhere is ” we are the best place to live, work and play.”
We asked about the delay on getting nurses on the list, Ardern said the battle for skills was only going to increase and New Zealand needed to ” in front of the competition.”
She wouldn’t agree the Government got the settings wrong before , ” we’ve been asked to make it simpler, so we have we need to be as competitive as we can be.
If Chris Luxon had made this U– turn the media would calling for head but totally ignore the lies and deciet that our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern spews.

Some of you may be interested to know the American Airlines 787 that arrives into Auckland from Dallas each morning is currently having to trek down to Christchurch and back – to get more fuel for the return trip….. Our fuel security really is paper thin.

An emergency zone has been declared after multiple police officers were reportedly shot in Queensland on Monday afternoon.

Local media report they were attending a property in Wieambilla, in the Western Downs region west of Brisbane, after reports of a missing person – but when they arrived they came under heavy fire.
